Fodder characters exist. They are there to LOOK cool and strong and then to get owned to show the "power" of someone even stronger.
So which characters did you actually like and then were pissed when they became weak bitches?
Me?
Blueno and Shura

Blueno and Shura
Mohji and Richie! :(
Moria and Ace
and Oz (j/k)
i cant remember the name (roshio?)
the first guy bellamy beat-up… i thought he had a cool design
...who's shura?
Mr. 3.
@lil:
…who's shura?
@Lobster:
Moria
What the fuck are you talking about?
And Shura was the String Priest on Skypeia.
oh, okay…..
i can never remember the priests' names for some reason...
Ace… yeah
forgot about that
shit. He fits PERFECTLY as fodder
T-bone. He screams "sidestory material" or "returns 500 chapters from now"
Yeah, T-Bone. He was an awesome character even for fodder.
T-BONE!
If he doesn't have a chapter story or come back later, I'm going to be so sad. D:
But also Jigoroh.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Oh shi-
!
I was joking Moria. You're not a fodder…
But Ace? Yea, she was defiantly a cannon fodder.
Absolom, definately.
^There is nothing more humiliating then being defeated by Nami…
Poor Abs. Sanji really gave him a tough time.
why didnt I (or anyone else) think of him?…
Bellamy!
He got bitched in ONE punch... and then killed (???) by DoFlamingo...
big buildup for someone who was practically a throw-away character
^Because he wasn't dissapointing?
Personaly I like how he got his ass handed to him bery much.
Except for Rosshio none of the above mentioned guys was really fodder because at least everyone of them shined and even if it was for a short moment as strong guy. If there´s disappointing characters on that field it is most definitely Dalton and Chaka.
So Ace is fodder now? This thread is nuts.
Edit:Some of you may be taking the term fodder to lightly. I don't know of any official definition myself though :)
Hmm i think lots of people fit the criteria for "fodder", especially those defeated by the Straw Hats, but I think, yeah, Ace fulfills the role of "fodder" quite better than others. His defeat really showed us just how powerful Blackbeard is. And Roshio too, who we've never seen fought anyone other than Bellamy, to whom he lost almost instantly.
I wouldn't really say Blueno though. His douriki was shown to be about 800+++ which was wayyy lower than Lucci's 4000. It was normal that he'd have lost to Luffy easily, otherwise it would've been weird that Luffy would be able to defeat Lucci if he already had a hard time with Blueno.
Actually, the biggest fodder character so far, i mean besides the Ace one, would be Odz. I mean, just look at Luffy going Super Saiyan.
Seriously, someone has to provide a plausible definition. You can't just call anyone that was defeated fodder just because it showed off the strength of the victor imo. I always thought fodder was expendable and had little or no relevance to the plot.

I doubt there is any but personally I take somebody who isn´t able to hold a stand and is just talk and gets raped easily to be fodder. That´s why Ace definitely is not fodder by my book because he was putting up a good fight against the probably most strongest character in the OP world so. It´s not like Blackbeard raped him without breaking a sweat.
Also Bellamy owned Rosshio, Shura defeated Gun Fall and handled all the Shandians except for Wiper. Also no fodder IMO. I mean if being defeated by a stronger guy makes you fodder then literally everybody besides the Strawhats are or will become fodder. And then we might likewise talk about losers.
Rosshio was fodder because he was just there to get his ass kicked without showing any greatness of his own. And Dalton and Chaka are the same at least on the field of fighting. All the others mentionded so far however I repeat are not fodder for me.
Agree with Elric and Ivotas. I was almost said "Wait, what?" when I saw Blueno as one of the characters listed above; just because you are defeated by Gear 2 doesn't mean you are useless.
The only character that I can think that could be a fodder is Jerry. The poor bastard was KOed in the same chapter he first appeared.
absolom. or however you spell it.
ace too, and yes, said ace. not quite as dissapointing, but dissapointing nonetheless.
Robin. most dissapointing canonfodder ever!
/Sarcasm

This is what I though as well, you are not alone.
(when i think fodder i think worthless, not a "stepping stone" character. )
Wapol, defiantly. I wish he got to transform into SUPER mode. Perhaps he will in Movie 9…
The gunslinger in Thriller Bark.
He appeared in one panel. And everyone: "Wow, that guy is cool".
The pig zombie says that he is a legendary gunslinger. "Wow, that guy is cool".
He never appears again, and is probably dead by now that Moria took everyone's shadows for himself.
He is so much fodder that Oda never gave himself the trouble of making him appear again.
Going with the Gunslinger, Cap'n John. He got a name, a reputation, a defining trait, and Buggy had his underwater treasure map.
And he gets to do nothing. If Brook were to fight anyone but Jigouroh or Ryuuma, I'd have picked John because he's got two swords sticking out of his back.
Haha.
Zoro is fodder. Remember, he got beaten by Mihawk! XD
Hahah!
Rockstar. I kinda wanted the guy to join the Strawhats and be their musician… that fights with a guitar. That would have rocked.

wow
xD
If anyone is a fodder, it's NAMI. She was so cool in the beginning (east blue). But she lost most of that after Arlong. Now she's just some fodder, and runs around with a weapon that requires no skill.
Pre-Grand Line Nami >>>>>>>> Current Nami

o.O Heh? He never even met the Strawhats, he was not defeated by anyone so far. And we will probably see him again. He is by far not in the definition of fodder!
Other than the current cast of underachieving subordinates, my votes for for the various Marine Captain fodder: T-bone, ball ball fruit captain, and rust rust fruit captain.
Alot of people consider Mr. Friday, and Miss. Father's day to be cannon fodders, but I think they were pretty good.
They even shot Zoro, which takes mad skillz
Now Mr. 11? Canon fodder. =(
o.O Heh? He never even met the Strawhats, he was not defeated by anyone so far. And we will probably see him again. He is by far not in the definition of fodder!
Well, Whitebeard treated him like something that came out of a blackhead on his back, and even Marco casually blew him off. I think he was just there to point out the difference in power between a Yonkou and every other pirate we've seen so far.
And LPS, Mr. 11 played a very important role. He proved that Death DOES happen in One Piece.
You know… before we argue about who is cannonfodder and who is not perhaps we should argue about WHAT cannon fodder is?
To me cannonfodder is only generic characters, nameless pirates and regular marines. I mean, while Bellamy may not hold a candle to Luffy or whoever he would still be quite alot to handle for someone els like Norland. As long as they could beat someone other named character in the series I can't think of them as fodder.
I think fodder, by the thread creator's definition, are characters that we hoped to have a good fight when they were shown or when they first used their powers, but then were defeated very easily.
Like Chaka (cool character, becomes jackal, strikes a huge swordcut on Crocodile, next panel we see him he is defeated). But Chaka was cool nevertheless (I love the scene when he gets up and blocks Crocodile's hook, saying that he is the jackal guardial of Arabasta).
Like Dalton as well (one of the strongest fighters or Drum, together with Kuromarino and Chess, has bull fruit, swears to protect his people, kicks a lot of generic goon's asses, and then is taken out by the first attack of Chess).
Others include T-Bone (cool character, unique appearance, known as a strong swordsman, "ship cutter". Defeated in one strike by Zoro), Cpt. John and gunslinger (cool appearances, one of them had a name, we never even saw them being destroyed) and a few others.
I don't think Bellamy was fodder because by the moment Luffy finally confronted him, we were all hoping Luffy would mop the floor with such an arrogant brat!
absolom. or however you spell it.
ace too, and yes, said ace. not quite as dissapointing, but dissapointing nonetheless.
Disappointing ok, fodder no. I know you didn´t say fodder but I just wanted to point it out. ;9
@Fire Fist:

So by that logic Shanks must also be cannon fodder. I mean Whitebeard talks down on him the same way like he did to Rockstar, that´s a fact. The point is Whitebeards entitled worlds strongest man and he even has the arrogance fitting for that title. Of course he looks down on everyone else. That however doesn´t make the respective person fodder. No matter who defeats him in the end, Teach or Luffy before Newgate gets defeated he will give that person the same disrespectul scolding. But you can´t speak of fodder in the end. Fodder definitely is the case if somebody gets owned easily and Rockstar so far didn´t fight. Or you might as well call Smoker fodder because he never even tried to fight Dragon.

I mostly agree on that definition except for the nameless part. Fodder can also be a named person if his only purpose is to be raped by a character without being able to show any value of his own. And btw, it was Crickett not Norland. ;)
All I have to say here is that Blueno was in no way cannon fodder.
.. Crickett? DO'H! So Monblanc or whatever was the family name? got em mixed up =P
(typed Norland because that was the easiest to spell correctly =P)
^Who the heck said Blueno was a connon fodder? Blueno rocked.

Chaka was about 20x cooler in Movie 8, then he was in the anime.

I tought that was the point of LG Dinosaurs….
Anyways, I don't remember Rockstar fighting at all. Mind to point out the Episode/chapter?
Definately Nero.
@The:
Definately Nero.
I liked Nero… He just had bad luck, like Wapol and Mr. 11
Atleast he got to show off some of his skillz though.
I tought that was the point of LG Dinosaurs….
They need to make a Little Garden Movie. That could potentially be awesome.
+Gedatsu
+T-Bone
16 t-bone gedatsu steak combos.
@The:
Definately Nero.
I don´t understand why they even let him join the CP9, since he could only use four of the six basic rokushiki abilities.
My fodder list:
Nero
Jerry
T-Bone
Absalom
Am pretty sure most of the CP9 learned their Rokushiki abilities while in CP9. Nero just hadn't learned them all yet.
Considering that Coby has learned soru, and that he's not in the CP9, I think that's proof that a person doesn't need to be in the CP9 to learn Rokushiki. I think Nero just thought he was sufficient with 4 of the Rokushiki.
@Lobster:
^Who the heck said Blueno was a connon fodder? Blueno rocked.
Several people did ^^
