I think I might've liked this one more than "Flashes Before Your Eyes". I've been wondering about Desmond's military life ever since the second season. But, was that the cowardly act that got him discharged?
i've probably said this before
but desmond with short hair is pretty freakin' aesthetically pleasing
anyway, i'm wary of time travel, but the episode was pretty awesome
the reunion could've been more emotional, but still, desmond is kickass so it was great
I have to say, the Desmond episode was one of my favorites of all time, just all the tentions, and event though this episode may appear confusing, I think they did a good job letting us go through the whole process and unstand the situation. And this storyline is just unlike others, and kept me tuned in all the time. AMAzing!!
Best ep. yet! Though I do believe Des recovers his memory or will in due time.
Guess this confirms multiple realities aren't in this show, but that the time 're-placement' of consciousness has a major role.
Oh FUCKING BRILLIANT!!
At first I've heard this episode would be a flashback, but I didn't know WHOSE flashback it would be, and then I thought "Flashbacks? Oh hell, I'm not INTERESTED in flashbacks, right now…"
But right after that, I read it would be a Desmond-centric and instantly i KNEW it would be some crazy-ass-motherfucking stuff, just BECAUSE it was a Desmond-centric. And HELL, it really met my expectations and even boosted head over them.
That's why I love Desmond. He's such a nice character, and he's always tangled up with some crazy stuff, just such an honest, honorable man.
"Flashes Before Your Eyes" is still one of my favourites but now "The constant" isn't that far behind.
Daniel was also just fricking awesome. Hey, after the last more-or-less dissapointing episodes this was a REAL bummer. Really can't say how much it pleased me, and how awesome it was. Great, fucking great. ^^
EDIT: Woowooow... Just forgot to ask your opinions, after all that awesomeness:
What do you think? Has or will Desmond got/get back his memories?
Right now, it seemed to me, he hasn't, but it would really be a shame, if he won't get them back at all, during the rest of the show... But well, I still believe in my own theory, that Desmond will die during the track of the show. And above all, it will be a heroic death!! g
This and the ep. of Hurley with the Van are my fav. IMO.
One thing I'm still confused about-
1- Where was Penny when Charlie contacted her?
2- How is that room she was in related to the Dharma underwater station?
3- How did she know WHO sent the boat? Or rather how did she find out about the boat's location when she was trying to communicate with it?
1. Who the hell knows? I mean… Does it matter?
2. Why should it be related? They talked via radiotransmitters, so there's no connection at all.
3. She didn't knew the location of the boat. They talked through radiotransmitters, so you are talking on certain frequencies. And how she knew which frequency it would be? We all don't know it, yet. It's the same question as "How could she possibly know about the island at all, at the end of season 2?"
I think it's connected to the answer of "What IS the island?".
@Freeman-12:
Best ep. yet! Though I do believe Des recovers his memory or will in due time.
i think when he found his constant, he got it all back.
hence him remembering sayid's name.
i think when he found his constant, he got it all back.

Well, that's not a must. Desmond was there, as Sayid identified himself in front of one of the freighter people, so he could've overheard the name.
But I really hope, that you are right. Just wanted to clear out, that it's not necessarily the valid point in this.
Brilliant shit.
In one fell swoop, This episode explained Desmond's time-skipping stunts and Daniel's memory problem (From the radiation of the lab and the same style of time-jumping) while connecting them in a beautiful and well thought out manner. On another end, it kinda hints why Naomi had a picture of Desmond and Penny, because Daniel (God bless him.) needed him just as much.
I..love this show. If I was a different man, I'd probably be driven to use a ''win'' meme.
I, for one, am glad you are not a different man.
WeAllEatFood:
I haven't thought about it that way, man. Thank you. ^^
But still we don't know WHY he's really time travelling… Cause, well. You see that's not just some crazy Illusion or something but REAL TIME TRAVELLING.
As we see in the end, he really changed time, for Daniel, and well he got Penny's number from this particular ride back in time.
And that's the catch. I really hope, that they explain it further on, during the series.
Thank you very much.
(And... is this Antonio Banderas? I'm speaking of your avatar... gg)
Great episode, my second favorite of season 4 right after "The Economist" (I'm such a Sayid fan)
It's just his mind that's travelling through time right? His body stays where it is.
Also does Desmond in 1996 remember this happening after Desmond in 2004 regains his memory?
Well, that's not a must. Desmond was there, as Sayid identified himself in front of one of the freighter people, so he could've overheard the name.

i thought it was pretty clear he had that "hello, friend" look in his eyes, and that they both knew he was back
just me?
Desmond is so damned good! Best episode of the season so far, easy.
I, for one, am glad you are not a different man.
Same here.
Although really, Desmond and Daniel becoming pals can lead a man to do some radical (In this case..dreadful) shit.
Thank you very much.
(And… is this Antonio Banderas? I'm speaking of your avatar... gg)
Ahh, No problem, bro.
And it's Falco from the ''Der Kommisar'' video.
Youtube the bastard and have your life laced with bronze.
Does anyone find it ironic that Desmond's flashbacks are most likely the cause of his expulsion from the army?
This episode was so freaking great. I'd say Daniel is the best non-castaway character by far.
Next week… Juliette, let's hope for something as good as Desmond's flashback. Then Sun/Jin, followed by the return of "WALTTTTTTT". And then our month break :(
Finally.
The episode of Lost that speaks loud and clear to those who said for years, "They're making it up as they go along.", "They have no idea what they're doing.", and, "This show is LOST!" lulz
It says to them…
"What bitch? What?"
I'm pretty underwhelmed at the moment, Greg.
Was really gunning for at least a couple of paragraphs outlining 1996-era Daniel and his Mida's Touch.
Don't worry, I actually just wanted to end the post on that note then waited for someone else to post.
So okay, we finally got Lost's thesis statement. Some of us, otherwise known as nerds, who spend hours fawning over Lostpedia, official podcasts, the ARGs and DarkUFO have known this was coming since we first saw Adam and Eve. Each season the hints got exponentially larger when it got to the point where, unless you wrote for IGN, you knew time travel in some form was going to play a major part in the home stretch of the series.
So there it is out in the open. And why do I like it so much?
Because Darlton made me believe in time travel.
No, really. Your consciousness???? Your very soul and being, NOT the fleshy bag we reside in, travels through time?! Okay so maybe it smells a little bit like "All Good Things…" but that doesn't detract one iota from how it's used in this series. Brilliant.
One cheesy bit? Daniel's little radiation emitter. Yeah…I was actually waiting for his next line to be, "One point twenty-one Jigawatts!" Otherwise that was awesome. Okay, so here's the deal though. Maybe someone can help explain this to me because I think I missed something. How the shit did Desmond just HAPPEN to arrive on the day he was going to teach Eloise the maze? I mean, in all the coincidences that have occurred on the show, I find THAT to be the only one where I'd cry, "Bullshit Sir!" Did that have something to do with his notepad? Did Daniel KNOW he met him on that day? If that's the case, where did he get the 2.342 11hz figure from?
The ONE thing that makes sense, is if he figured out that figure WHILE on the island and that's why he's been scurrying with experiments. If so, in learning it there, he could teach Desmond who would teach him in the past. Why is this incredibly awesome if correct?
Because it just eliminated a paradox in a show dealing with time travel.
Why else is this awesome?
Because that means it was wait for iiiiiiiiiit, his destiny to go to the island. Hmmmm, have we ever heard that anywhere else before?
Darlton rock. Bravo for avoiding paradox bullshit and putting all of the indications of where this show was heading long before its critics could possibly know what was going to happen and gave up on it. What an amazing story.
Oh…did anyone else realize Frank is the mother-fucking Lawnmower Man?
Im not sure what lawnmower man means, but Frank was indeed badass, he's not like Miles or Charollete; he seems to care about the 815 people.
Same here.
And it's Falco from the ''Der Kommisar'' video.
Youtube the bastard and have your life laced with bronze.
Dude, I LOVE Falco. I'm from Germany, as you can see, and here everybody knows him. What a poor bastard, to die in an accident, way before his time. It's really a shame.
Oh…did anyone else realize Frank is the mother-fucking Lawnmower Man?
First: I totally missed the thing, that he's THE lawnmover man. LOL But you are right (as always XD).
(Freeman-12: THAT's the Lawnmower Man… g http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lawnmower_Man_%28film%29 )
Well, we know since the beginning of the show, that "destiny" is a very important theme for lost, in particular. So, why shouldn't it just BE destiny, that Desmond came to him that day?
But from the end of 4x05, we know that Daniel knew, he would meet Desmond on the island. So knows the question, did he knew it before, or was it a time-travel-thing, which changed the future after the meeting of Desmond and Daniel in 1996?
I'm sorry, if I've missed something, or it doesn't make really sense…
which changed the future
No, Darlton have stated that they are strictly opposed to paradoxes and the ability to change the future. For any questions regarding that they've simply said, 'Believe Ms. Hawking'.
No, Darlton have stated that they are strictly opposed to paradoxes and the ability to change the future. For any questions regarding that they've simply said, 'Believe Ms. Hawking'.
I thought and thought about, what are you talking about… Who the hell is "Darlton", till it hit me like a lightning... Damon and Carlton, yeah... XP Oh god, I hate such joke-abbreviations. XP
I can't really remember what Ms. Hawking said back then, since I watched the whole series only once. Could you be so kind, and help me a little bit with that, Greg? ^^
Ms Hawking basicaly said that the universe has a way of correcting itself. You can try to change something but nothing can really change at all. So if someone does time travel and tries to change the past, they can't.
Oh yeah, I love Desmond episodes so much. Good god, I was hot for this episode.
basically this post tried to elaborate on things already been brought up in this thread and thus has lost it´s reason to exist.
16 srys 4 edit.
Holy shit!
! Widmore is the one who hired the freighter crew! And are we ever gonna find out who the mole of Ben's is?
ahahaha
some parts were hilarious
but ben was posessive and creepy (creepy in a bad way, as opposed to a good way like before)
I know! He sent Goodwin to get killed by the Tailies just so he could have Juliet all to himself!
Ben went from bitter prisoner to creepy neighbor in a matter of minutes.
Without reading spoilers, this episode…. thumbs up or down?
@Battle:
Without reading spoilers, this episode…. thumbs up or down?
err
some highlights but compared to the other great eps this season, down
It wasn't a stand-out episode, although there was one big "reveal" and another totally obvious whopper left for next week… But it did shed a lot of light on certain character relationships/drama/motivations so in a way it helped to round some areas of the story out.
Not a bad piece of TV, but by Lost standards, a thumbs-down for sure.
However, I really dislike Juliet's character to begin with, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Didn't vibe with this episode at all.
! Dare I say we have season four's "Stranger in a Strange Land"?
Thumbs down, unfortunately. The first half was just… boring. It catches up a little bit after that, though, but it's still not a thing to fancy about.
It wasn't a stand-out episode, although there was one big "reveal" and another totally obvious whopper left for next week…
Which big "reveal" are you talking about, stephen? Well, the whole Widmore-thing? We know, from Charlie that the man behind this CANNOT be Penny (You know? Penny Widmore?g Not Penny's boat?), except Penny and her father are NOT working together on this thing. In this case it could be true.
Just, to let it go: I absolutely don't like Juliet, and her episodes are just as boring as Kate's.
I Wonder Who's The Spy On The Boat?!
good job with that ABC previews
The Widmore thing, of course. They dropped hints about it last week with Widmore buying the Black Rock's ship journal, but now Ben's let it out that he's the "big enemy," although the financial reasons he used to convince Locke are pretty obviously a red herring.
! Widmore is definitely after the Island's powers of longevity/immortality, as seen by Richard Alpert
Hmm, okay, since I thought that was a lie of Benjamin, 'cause we know, Penny doesn't have to do anything with it. So it seems, they are both, daughter and father, working on different agendas, right? I have seen every episode of the whole series just once, so far, as they aired, so my memories are, in cases, a little bit off.
Here's my theory on that spy-guy:
It's Michael. Why? We know, Michael will return during Season 4, and well, it would fit perfectly. He broke a deal with Ben, we don't really know about, yet. (During the end of Season 2) So, now, he's Ben's spy on the freighter, and thus, gets back on the island.
Maybe the spy's even the captain himself (= Michael), but no matter in which position the spy is, he's Michale, for CERTAIN. I'm betting my own ass on this, I tell you guys.
@Senshi:
Holy shit!
! Widmore is the one who hired the freighter crew! And are we ever gonna find out who the mole of Ben's is?
….that wasn't mindfucking to me in any sort of way
@Stephen's spoiler- Immortality sounds like a lame reason, it even sounds pretty cliche and dull, no he's after it for something more, anyway here's my take on the ep.-
OK, I have a feeling Goodwin's wife was NOT sent by Ben; if Ben is the know-it-all we've seen him as then he would've known what Dan and Charollete were up to. Furthermore notice how her manner of appearing was similar to when Walt appeared in past seasons. ...but when Walt appeared, if assuming it was a manifestation of the island and it was doing for it's benefit, then why would it use Goodwin's wife in order to kill off the people on the island?
BTW I'm really sick of this whole 'no-trust' BS, and am hating Charollete a lot right now >_<.
Oh and Ben saying Whitmore, Penny's dad wanting to exploit the island....I don't believe him on that, I mean I can't even believe Locke is STILL trusting him after he SHOT him! Wake the fuck up Locke!
Oh and that's exactly what I thought when Ben was given his own room.
Still I really wish they show us what Ben told Locke just to clear some of the crazy stuff already.
Finally, I loled when Ben asked Locke if the Rabbit he cooked for him had a number ROFL!
@Freeman-12:
@Stephen's spoiler- Immortality sounds like a lame reason, it even sounds pretty cliche and dull, no he's after it for something more
Is it any less cliche or dull than using the island for its wild and fancy Jurassic Park properties to make gobs of money? Rich and powerful men have simple desires.
@Freeman-12:
@Stephen's spoiler- Immortality sounds like a lame reason, it even sounds pretty cliche and dull, no he's after it for something more, anyway here's my take on the ep.-
You lack imagination to think that Immortality is not one of the most desirable things in the world, especially to such a wealthy man
^How am I lacking imagination if something so typical and cliche as Immortality is a rich and powerful man's most desirable thing? Maybe he knows how 'boring' Immortality would be and such isn't interested in it, Witmore looks way more intelligent than that. Also isn't his company in cahoots with Hanso or whatstheirname?
If anything, he's probably trying to erase everything of the island and the Dharma I. Oh yeah now that I recall it, wouldn't Whitmore also be informed of that EMP or another that was caused at the end of Season 2? If he knows of the Dharma Initiative's objectives, and it included the Magnetic thing than maybe he also wants to deal with that as well.
Hmmmm.
This was…...a necessary 'evil'.
For the average "Dur, WHY doNt SHOW giv3 ANSWERz LIKE Hero show?", this was good in tying up a few loose ends regarding Juliet and Goodwin and Juliet and Ben. I wonder if Emerson was told that he and Juliet had a thing (despite it being one-sided) as far back as season 3 because I always sensed it in their interactions. ESPECIALLY in the episode where she told him he had cancer. His answers and his way of talking sound dead on for someone being as fixated with her while exhibiting rage and obsession. So it was nice to see how that turned out as well as the reveal of the origin of the gas attack (apparently all the hostiles didn't just pull out canisters and count to three)
So that was good for the casual viewer.
As far as what this does for Ben. Meh, as I've already mentioned, nothing I didn't really notice before but it's still awesome to see him go to work on people's grey matter.
As for Widmore.
I don't buy it.
Yeah, we could have guessed he played a role in this as far back as Season 2's finale. But really? Is THAT all? I mean okay, we know the sonuvabitch has his fingers in just about every industry from drugs to construction to foreign trade (Paik Industries anyone?) but really? I'm not talking about greed. That I'd buy. Fuck, Alvar Hanso is well over 100 and still alive and kicking so if you've got enough money, immortality or extended life is WAAAAAAAY more than enough motvation. I just don't think, it's that simple.
Either he has some other connections or isn't all he appears to be himself. Yeah, so he wants to exploit the island, big deal. Why do I get the impression that IF he does, it would be very, very bad for all of us?
! What the hell happened to Michael?! He thinks his name is Kevin now~
big spoiler for whats happening right now in the episode…
! MIKES BACK? WTF? HES THE SPY?!…sorry had to get that out. i just didnt see that comming at all, nice one writers, nice one. Im not sure what i really think about this tho, its interesting but i woulda kinda liked a new character but seeing mike again is cool
! i think he knows who he is, seemed obvious kevin is a fake name hes using to hide his identity
! Sonofabitch...Jin  that just aint right
! And Sun thinks Jin is dead? We obviously know that's not true, as he's still working for Paik after getting off the island.
Micahel's return and Jin being dead topped the wackiness of this episode's flow.
@Senshi:
! And Sun thinks Jin is dead? We obviously know that's not true, as he's still working for Paik after getting off the island.
No, Sun had a flashforward and Jin had a flashback. They were just messing with us.
No, Sun had a flashforward and Jin had a flashback. They were just messing with us.
Yeah, I just figured that part out now. At least we know that Lost's mindfuck is called that for a reason. Because it sure worked on me.
A flashback and flashforward in one…LOST has got to be the greatest show ever made (er...right behind seinfeid) just for messing with us like that lol. good episode overall, at least i enjoyed it more then last weeks.
