! Holy shit, I actually just got the "pun" from Pariston Hil. C'mon Togashi, really?
Hunter x Hunter

-
@Fire Fist:
! Illumi is looking like Palm when she was alive… creepy shit. And yeah, what the hell is Ickshonpe? He looks like a Mowgli that was not only fed after midnight, but given shrooms. Also, Pariston Hil? Oh, Togashi... you just had to go there. And Leorio Parodiknight? What? And did we know Biscuit's last name before this? I think we did... I can't recall for sure though.
I think it was kruger or something like that, not sure though.

Ok I am definetely going to try and catch up with both the manga and the old anime(I did get through old one piece episodes so old quality doesnt really matter), but a few questions, according to what I have read this manga doesnt seem to shy away from death as one piece does, so does this mean that that honest innocent boy(gon) is going to start killing or will it just be his new buddy killua.
Also this Hisoka guy, he's the guy with the cards right? I get the impression from a post a few pages back that the whole magic thing he is doing in the anime isn't actually canon is it true? and I thought he was a hunter, at least thats what I got from him attacking Leorio and Gon in the clearing. Is the old anime also "kid" friendly or do they actually try and depict the manga as it is?
I'm going to try my best to answer your questions. ^^;;
It doesn't shy away from death no. Fodder die alot,
! And some non fodder. Hmm not sure if I need to spoiler this but it's the Gon answer.
! Gon has only one muderous vendetta and that comes much later and it's fairly justified. Killua kills, but actually not that often. All he really needs to do is make threats for the most part.Hisoka calls himself a magician, he likes theatrics mixed with his fighting. The card tricks are canon, the enemy's arm disappearing thing was new. He wasn't a Hunter examiner or anything, he was just acting as a judge based on his ideals on who should be allowed to get past him. Leorio and Gon passed his standards. Most likely for Leorio having the chance to run away, but returned instead to fight. And Gon landing a hit. Hisoka had no real authority. The old anime is not really kid friendly. It's darker than the new one. Some stuff is toned down but there are a few disturbing scenes here and there they left in.

A prominent theme throughout Hunter X Hunter is the loss of ones innocence once predisposed to the real world around you. Once Gon is given his Hunters Licence all world restrictions are nullified and, more importantly, the boy who grew up on an isolated island can see the true nature of the world. Though that is not to say that Gon changes from an "honest" and "innocent" boy, I think it would be around the Chimera Ant arc where it is clear that there is a definitive growth in Gon's personality.
Also this Hisoka guy, he's the guy with the cards right? I get the impression from a post a few pages back that the whole magic thing he is doing in the anime isn't actually canon is it true?
Yes, the magic show in the new anime is not cannon. However in retrospect, the censorship did not change Togashi's narrative in the slightest besides maybe creating a more antagonistic tone around Hisoka.
and I thought he was a hunter, at least thats what I got from him attacking Leorio and Gon in the clearing. Is the old anime also "kid" friendly or do they actually try and depict the manga as it is?
Though I have not read the Hunter Exam arc in years, I believe Hisoka failed the previous years exam for killing one of the examiners. His decision to "play examiner" was fundamentally his subjective testings simply in order to trim the herd. Finally I can't help you with the anime question as I have not watched the original adaption. What I can tell you though is that it is still censored (as most adaptions are) in comparison to the manga but once it starts to get into the OVA they can get away with more things.
-

Actually, thus far the new series is more violent than the old one. The dialogue/fights significantly moreso. The old anime is just as "kid-friendly" for the first part of the series.
-
Thanks, I think I'll try it out and I don't know why but I find the idea that killing in this manga isn't something thats simply subjected as something thats completely exclusive to the antagonists very interesting, maybe its the luck of it in one piece.
So should I be looking forward to Gon killing someone with his fishing rod? oh and is Kurapika a guy or a girl? and is Gon really 8 years old same with killua?
-

As far as I know Gon doesn't kill anyone with his fishing rod, although that would be kinda cool. Kurapika is indeed a guy, despite his somewhat "feminine" looks and Gon and Killua are both 12 IIRC. You'll enjoy the series, guaranteed.
-
I can only agree half with that.
It certainly doesn't relate directly to combat prowess but it relates somewhat to the skill(of what nature that skill isn't necessarily important) of said hunter.
And if HxH thought us anything is that you don't necessarily win fights with pure combat prowess. In context, it's correct:
@projectelf:! So apparently Paristion is a 3 star hunter alongside with Cheadle and Botobai. They must be strong as hell.
I was responding to this. A Hunter's star rating is connected to their contribution as a Hunter to society. A Hunter may be extremely skilled but not have actually contributed much.
It's true that 3 Star Hunters of which there are only a small handful are probably extremely skilled Hunters. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're strong in combat.
The Zodiac are obviously 12 of the best Hunters there are, and we've been told that Netero would use them as sparring partners, so we know some of them are very strong, but by Hisoka's standards, Illumi is stronger than some of them, and he's a Hunter with no stars. Hisoka also has no stars, but you can't say he's not strong. All I'm saying is, Hunters with a 3 Star Rating are surely skilled Hunters, but it doesn't follow that they are all strong fighters.
-
Can't wait for that chapter!
-
All I'm saying is, Hunters with a 3 Star Rating are surely skilled Hunters, but it doesn't follow that they are all strong fighters.
Another way to phrase it would be that they're good at what they do, whatever they do. If that just happens to be strength, then so be it. But I doubt Botobai taking on Cheadle in arm-wrestling would end in Cheadle's favor.
-
I wouldn't say that. Appearances can be deceiving in the HxH world.
-
I wouldn't assume they're all strong either. I bet some chef hunters with 3 stars are just the equivalent of Chef Ramsey.
-
@Zik:

They said there were only something like 10 or some really small number of 3 star Hunters in the world, so I'd be surprised.
Even Menchi, a 1 Star Gourmet Hunter, explained that a Gourmet Hunter needs to have some skill to go into these dangerous places to get these crazy exotic ingredients. It would be extremely surprising if one of the handful of 3 Star Hunters in the world, let alone 3 Star Gourmet Hunters couldn't do the same.
I was just saying that 3 Star doesn't mean they're great combatants. It's likely, but not a given.
Because you have Rookie Hunters with no stars that are as dangerous as the Zodiac, like Illumi and Hisoka. -

I love how this is exactly like Toriko now.
-
I love how this is exactly like Toriko now.
Wasn't the gourmet hunter concept brought up before Toriko came out?
-
a looooooot before. something like volume 2 or 3.
now that the other jump scans are out, my urge for the HxH chapter is growing by the minute
-
@Zik:

Eagerly awaiting the conjugation of Hell's Kitchen.
-
have you seen the full raw? i think it's awesome
http://mangahead.com/index.php/Manga-Raw-Scan/Hunter-x-Hunter/Hunter-x-Hunter-326-Raw-Scan?page=1#earlysnail_18.jpg -
I hope we don't have to wait till friday for a scan.
-
Woah
! That face was Illumi then ? Man oh man i love how this accident was executed.
! And does Killua want to go alone or what ? Judging by that pokemon move… -
! So Illumi uses his needles to some guys, who will crash with Killua's group's car? I really like it. And seems like Killua is using he's electricy in the forest. And what is that picture in the third last page, where there is like zodiacs, spiders etc.
Can't wait for the chapter… -
! Holy cow, really can't wait for the chapter to come out now
-
! A chase, eh? This should be good. I imagine the only people capable of sparring with Hisoka and Illumi are Killua and that other head butler (I can't really see Gotoh or Canary being that useful), but this should still be pretty intense. I love how they just propelled them off a fucking mountain.
-
! I love how Killua's chart only depicts Alluka and Killua having affection for each other, as well as Silva and Kikyo (Where the crap did I get Asuka? Must've been a bad translation), and Kikyo for Kalluto. Apparently the rest of the family doesn't give a damn about each other. And I'm curious what Hisoka said to Illumi to piss him off and make him do the "Palm" face. Looking forward to a scanlation.
-
Looks at chapter Oh yeah. I can see this is going to be a pain for the person to translate, clean up, and whatever's needed to get the chapter out.
-
! Got one of the names figured out. It should be Cheagle Yorkshire. 3 breeds of dog: Chesapeake Bay Terrier, Beagle, Yorkshire Terrier.
-
or
! Paris Hilton, aka Pariston Hill owns a Yorkshire Terrier… alluding to the fact that Pariston completely controls Cheadle basically, she can't keep up with him.

I have already see. Some pics and I am not gonna spoil myself any more

Chapter is out: http://mangastream.com/read/hunter_x_hunter/29465071/1
-
Wow. Just wow. Just how fucking good is this manga?
I'm just anxious to keep reading.
Now it's the time, Togashi. Now is the time. . .to go on an indefinite hiatus. Then you'll earn the Troll King seat. Rightfully.
-
Whoever said awhile back that they would read an entire manga about the Zoldyck family, after reading this chapter I am now forced to agree.
-
And once again, the dialogue between Hisoka and Illumi is hilarious. and creepy. No surprise there considering they're total psychopaths though.
-
Whoever it was that wonder what Hisoka said to tick off Illumi…it has been answered.
DON'T MESS with BROMANCE. XD
Lol at Maha...No connection at all. XD
-
Wow, great chapter. And Togashi is really going all out on the art.
-
How many weeks left till the highly anticipated hiatus Bevard?
-
Now it's the time, Togashi. Now is the time. . .to go on an indefinite hiatus. Then you'll earn the Troll King seat. Rightfully.
What have we got? 4 chapters left? Man this hiatus is going to be rough.
I really liked this chapter. It seamlessly transitioned between the election and Aluka plot without dragging in any aspect.
Anybody else pick up that Leorio's last name is "Palodaknight"? Could be the first signs of Dragon Quest bleeding through on this round of chapters.
Illumi was also rather interesting in this chapter regarding his motive towards Killua. It;s clear that he wants to control Killua but is there a specific reason because that face was surely not brotherly love.
The call back to the main players of the Hunter Universe in doll form was also quite a nice nostalgia trip and I guess the second car chase scene of the series made me think back to York Shin.
Well that's enough Hunter ramblings for one post.
-
Should we take from that toy drawing, that these are the people Hisoka actually finds funny to play with? As in, interesting to him?
I see Satotsu and Hanzo in there, also Leorio and Kurapika. And Milluki too.
Pretty strange; aren't these guys leagues below him?
Also, Illumi's Informant is Tsubone or Amane? Or someone totally different?
Hell, I'm pumped. Not to sound like an action junkie (which I am), but since HxH's return, there hasn't been any single fight. I think the situation asks for one.
@ Will: I don't know when he'll go on a hiatus, I prefer to think he won't do it in a while. I was just making fun of how trollish it would be to go on a hiatus now.
The scary thing is, it may happen anytime.
Edit: Did I mistake Milluki for Buhara?
-
Perfect chapter.
Really, I love it. It may be my favorite chapter since HxH is running again. All this information about the top chairman candidates and the Zoldyck Circle of Affections is just fantastic, It explains so much about the family. Only thing that needs an explanation is how Kalluto fits into all this? I guess she envies Alluka because she is the center of attention.
Edit: Also, please some info on Maha. He seems to be still in the business, since he did show up on on that assassination in York Shin, but he isn't involved in any of this, but its been hinted that he is ridiculously strong as he has been compared with Netero, I think Zeno even said Netero is the only one to fight Maha and still be able to tell tales about it.
another edit: Just reading my post again, what do you guys think, could Kalluto be the secret informant? She does have a nen ability that allows her to listen to other people from different places (chapter 225, p.14) and she envies Alluka. -
Man, without taking in account the fanservice this is the third week that HxH is better than One Piece for me…
I can´t believe i just said that.
-
How many weeks left till the highly anticipated hiatus Bevard?
Uh, 4, up to chapter 330. He's been doing increments of 10, and stopping on multiples of 10 (because thats how many it takes to make a trade.)
If we get to 331 we're probably good for a while, and he'll be setting a new record for the first time in almost a decade.
I'm not entirely sure about the jump holiday schedule due to the leaks, (we just got a chapter that won't be out in Japan until the 28th) and the usual end-year break, but I think we won't be hitting that point until January. 329 should be the last chapter of the year, though I could be wrong if we get an early leak prior to the break, which has happened before.
-

Well for character's like Hanzo, we do not know how much they have improved since the Hunter Exam. If I'm not mistaken, Hanzo flawlessly beat Gon in the Tournament portion of the exam. If he has created a formidable hatsu, he may have participated in events that Hisoka finds fascinating. Or y'know, Togashi may have been watching the new anime and decided to put him in there.
Kurapika has demonstrated the ability to essentially dismantle the Phantom Troupe which is pretty impressive to say the least and Leorio, though maybe intentional, landed a hit on one of the Zodiak 12.
Also that doll of Gon is sporting quite a radical beard.
@ Will: I don't know when he'll go on a hiatus, I prefer to think he won't do it in a while. I was just making fun of how trollish it would be to go on a hiatus now.

With the new arc, new anime and Togashi hype everywhere, it seems too good to be true. I'm trying to think more grounded so I don't, once again, go through the motions of disappointment.

You've probably got till January before we'll know one way or the other.
If it continues at that point, we'll have it through at least March, and can back off a little. The hope is with the new anime the editors have hunkered down on him some. And this chapter looked really good. We can only hope its just the bug arc was really dragging him down and he's enthused again..

Looks at the calendar…24 of November + 4 weeks + scanlation estimate release.... SHIT! ITS JUST LIKE TOGASHI STOLE CHRISTMAS FROM US!
-
After rereading, I read Paris Hilton instead Pariston Hill.
…I'm ashamed of myself
But interesting how both of them are just incredibly unlikeable. Having Paris in your name is like an official declaration of being a douche.
Also, what is the Digital World and when will we see it. -
a great chapter, and the art was just amazing.
the Hisoka-Illumi part was golden, as always.
I'm in love with this manga. It's been way better than OP every week since it came back from hiatus. -
Crazy psychos attack group in woods. Togashi's version of a horror movie.
@Sheep:Also, what is the Digital World and when will we see it.
We already have.
-
So, wait, Ickshonpe is a fictional person and yet he's a fully licensed hunter with several votes? Crazy. And what the heck is a Sea hunter? Is Morel a pirate? And yeah, now I know what Hisoka said to piss off Illumi, but I can understand the reason he got pissed off.
Also, interesting to note in that chart, Kalluto is jealous of Alluka. Are we going to have Kalluto showing up to try and kill Alluka, too?
So, next chapter, the chase is on. Sounds good, though this seems similar to the part in the ant arc where Killua had to fight Pufu while protecting Komugi… It's a little different considering Illumi is probably much stronger than Pufu (who was weakened at the time), and we have Hisoka, too. We'll see how it plays out.
-
That's one thing I hate about Togashi. He just expanded the HxH world so much and then you have to question if he'll cover even half.
Like the top 16 and some of the interesting things they want to do, changing the Hunter selection exam, revising the 10 Hunter rules, hunters who have lost contact and the whole lost association members, and then the Zoldyc family, etc.
Great chap all in all.
-
@Fire Fist:
… It's a little different considering Illumi is probably much stronger than Pufu (who was weakened at the time), and we have Hisoka, too. We'll see how it plays out.
You know, I always wondered about how Togashi handled Pufu's fighting prowess. He was cunning and very smart, but every battle that involved him was just some kind of mind battle, like when he faced of Morau and planned that thing with taking his pipe away. He never really used a single offensive ability. He had hypnotic spores, could split himself up and had some emotion-reading ability, but not once did he even attempt to throw a punch or kick. Which is odd, considering how insanely strong Yupi and Pufu were.
But that doesn't matter since he's dead. Still interesting when reflecting upon the ants arc.
