How can you contact Oda like you do in SBS?
How can you contact Oda like you do in SBS?

I guess the japanese write him letters or fanmails.
In a SBS he mentioned that he also gets fanmail written in other languages, but he can't read those. If you want to write him, send a letter to whoever publishes "One Piece", Oda will get it. But since it will have to go to Japan, it could be a bit of trouble.
-
There was a guy in the SBS that said he was from France, and Oda told him he can see his letter translated in about 2 or 3 years :p
Apparently Oda forgot/doesn't know about scanlations.
He could probably just get someone to translate for him. I bet if we all sent him letters in English, it'd KILL HIM to not know what they say.
-
Haha, that's what we should all do…have everyone on the AP forums send Oda a letter, so he has this giant influx of english letters. He'd have to get someone to translate them then :P
-
The address is in volume 12 somewhere. I've only sent one letter to Oda so far.
-
The french SBS "question" was actually a bunch of questions, fanarts and gifts send by one of the two biggest french One Piece fan communities and it was written in japanese. They just kept the introduction that was supposed to be a joke like Timmy Ueda starting the SBS but it kinda fell flat.
I'm surprised AP never did something like that.
-
Well all is explained here : http://www.volonte-d.com/colissbs.php (yeah, it's in french ^_^).
The package, as Aldrich told, was full of fanarts, french letters, and a global message translated in japanese explaining the whole thing and asking question.
The package was really awesome, look are a few pics:
A few parts of the letter was published & edited during the publication of the volume. The SBS publied was:
And stephen's translation of it is here: http://www.mangascreener.com/stephen/onepiece/chapter413.txt (at the end).
EDIT
And since the packages was filled with colored pictures from Lucci, etc, etc, and considering Oda knew about how many volumes we are late, in France, he must have understand/know about scanlations (about them existing, not browsing APForums…).
EDIT2
Now that I think about it, a single letter don't have many chance to be published. However if you regroup all together, like this package (~60 pictures, 12 drawings, 7 fanarts and ~10 letters) Oda will notice it, and think about publishing it.
-
That was funny since they mailed CP9 stuff. Is france even up to Cp9 yet?
-
I have a question:
Does anyone know the e-mail address of both the Asian and US divisions of Weekly Shonen Jump?
Thanks in advance!
-
We.
Should.
Totally.
Do.
THIS!how come we never thought about sending that kind of package like the French community?! it'll be great if we'd do that! this time in the name of all the international community!!
-
Oda gave an adress for U.S. fans to write to him for the SBS. He said Japanese letters arrive a few days after being sent but Overseas letters take longer. But wait, doesn't Oda speak english? I thought he did. dunno why.
-
Hey I'm all up for this… Someone set up a dead line date, a totals goal, a "send it to me" bit and get everyone to send them at least one letter each. Its about time someone in the OP community made the community do something fanish! :D
-
^Easier said then done!
As much as I would love for that to happen, do you know how much it will take for that to work? I am just saying that we should plan this whole thing out before we even do this kind of thing.
Still, I am pretty much all up for it just as much as everyone else!

Correction, the Editor of Viz's English translation of One Piece put up an address you can send your letters to which will take longer then normal to reach him given the various barriers involved
I guess I'll just post it for the hell of it
Eiichiro Oda/ One Piece
c/o VIZ Media, LLC
P.O. Box 77010
San Francisco, CA 94107I haven't bothered myself since it just seems like a way for Viz to humor the kiddies who read the English version.

No. Oda doesn't understand English. He stated it in a interview in a old American Shonen Jump I have.
-
He must get someone to basic translate for him. Otherwise he'd never reply to what he has been sent in the SBSs.
Yeah Viz is trying to make it seem good to send to them. But unless THEY plan to answer the questions nothering will work. Plus also I pretty much think its a set up to make those reading the manga into thinking those are ENGLISH questions being answered by Oda, not Japanese.

In the fourth image, top row, third from the left. The picture of two guys and a cross, is that even a picture of One Piece? Because it don't look like Mihawk and it look more like Vash in Trigun.

I always thought the trick was to paint a Mugiwara jolly roger on a searchlight and point it at the clouds. No wait…

Maybe in Japan but nowhere else.

Lol yes, it is indeed Vash and Wolfwood. Hilarious

I was actually thinking of doing:
- Asking APF members to send me their SBS questions and/or fan letters/arts
- Getting Anime Expo (anime convention) attendees to doodle there and/or bring in their stuff
and put them together to send in. Deadline to send the stuff in: July 31, and I'll send them in by August 31.
I just need to go get PO box myself, but not really sure which fee group I'd fit in. I don't think I want to pay more than $30 for it (unless people are willing to chip in) D:
One thing I can gurantee; I don't think I'm able to translate all the letters/SBS.
PS. Someone dig up the old SBS thread for me, please.

You know, that is actually not a bad idea!
Count me in!
-
Ocean, I can pitch $5-$10 to you to help cover the shipping cost… come find me at the Ikkicon booth at AX.
-
Thanks :) If anything, I'll make someone else pick it up. It looks like I'll be tagging along one of the guests, so I don't think I can leave them :/
-
I'd help with $$$ costs… But I can't as I'm sorta living in a different contient to everyone. ^-^'
Maybe we could get this placed on other OP forums that AP is running this? I know its more work, but if you can pull more people into it it'd get more impact.
-
Funny, I always thought Oda-Sensei could speak English too for 3 main reasons. He uses a lot of English in One Piece (the names of most of the characters as a start, Sky Island, Davy Back Fight, Gear Second and Gear Third etc), he's been doing a lot of researh on English Pirates like Blackbeard and finally, he's a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino films. So it's huge news to me that he can't speak English. Hey maybe we should suggest that he'd learn it in that post so that he can communicate more efficiently with his international fans. It's not like he's some old geezer, he's only 32.
-
In Japan, kids learn it at school for a couple of years and unless they take it further thats it. Its the same for us if we learn German, French, Spanish etc…
Don't expect a Japanese person to understand English (this came from the mouth of a Japanese person), however I know from watching German TV once; more Japanese know English then German.
-
To anyone who thinks Oda knows English, I have two words for you:
Prot Dance.
Thank you.
With that out of the way, I think a giant fan letter would be interesting. I'm self-teaching myself Japanese, so maybe I'll be writing one myself.
-
Wow ANgel, you're japanese? I must say your English is spot on^^ So you get to watch the episodes at the time they air? You're sooo lucky^^
-
Oooh, self-teaching? That's cool FFA.
ocean:
You're totally awesome __ may you live happily ever after.
Seriously, is there a way I can help from the pc [given I'm 15 and from other country =(]?
And, from where are you taking the SBS questions? The other thread Terek opened back then? May I participate? ^^ -
Wow… this is interestingly awesome. I'm not gonna participate, mainly because having everyone on the forums doing so would be ridiculous, but I'm definitely intrigued to see where this goes
-

Not Japanese, just a English girl who knows Japanese people (met lots at uni, used to talk to them on-line and was attached to forum run by a Japanese guy).
I wish I was Japanese, but I'm happy I'm English.
-
Hmm I see. Japanese people sound fun. They have funny faces, respectable attitudes and cute eyes^^
-
The Japanese guys I've met tend to be dead serious… And not much fun and the girls... Are just that.
But this is going into the realms of racist opinions, not sticking into tread subject at all. ^-^'
DaveJS, come on, join in. If everyone takes that attitude then no one will end up taking part. Think about it... If one person says it, lots of others may start thinking about it. And then next thing you know: 0 things to submit to Oda.
-
My high school has three years of JPN, and I'm a first year.
ウズマキ ナルト は ウチハ サスケ をたべますよ!
If you can read that…good for you!
-
Me rascist?!? Oh no, oh no, oh no! I was just kidding by pulling out a stereotype. I know that japanese people are just like everyone else except theyhave different cultures and values (example suicide). I did not want to give off the fact that I am rascist which I am not.
-
I did not want to give off the fact that I am rascist which I am not.
impression… not fact. just for future reference
Oceanizer: will/would this community send questions as a community or will everyones questions be sperated based on the individual who asked it?
will questions that has already been answered (but still missed by whoever asked it) still be asked?
will stuff Oda isnt going to reveal yet because its part of the plot still be asked? (I belive "why Luffy and Ace isn't shareing the Monkey name" is one of those. hasnt it been asked in an SBS already btw?)
sorry about beeing such a killjoy but i cant get the thoughts out of my head...

Lol. Well I meant to say impression but in my haste to avoid being typeset as a rascist and the fact that it was the middle of the night, I regrettably made an error in word choice. One must hope that I never make such an amateurish move again seeing as my diction is supposed to be above average at my school. LOL^^ As to the Luffy and Ace thing, maybe Ace changed his name. Seriously, do you think Ace would go walking around with a cool name like his only to have it marred by his family name? Come to think of it, Ace probably isn't his real name either. I mean who would name their kid Ace? Now Ace being used as a nickname, that I can see.
-
it would totally awesome if we could manage to sent a fan mail to oda-san
would be a pleasure for me to help where i can and also to ask oda-san some tricky questions:whistling: -

Knowing Oda and his crazy imagination Ace is really Bathound in a mask.
-
"bathound"? i really do hope you dont know oda btw….

You know I was just chatting with someone about this last night, and that would be pretty amazing if you did that for us. o: I would just need to know how you are going to get our letters. >>;

That's a good idea actually. D: since my japanese is poor, I wouldn't be able to write him a letter in straight Japanese. I did send him a letter in English before. =D I wonder if it ever got to him. ;-;
If I had some money and the 'umph' to….I'd join in this crusade to send Oda-sama a fan letter. =D

You don't need money, VIZ has an address for sending fan-letters in their Volume 12.
-
What are the chances of Viz doing that… ¬_¬'
-
"bathound"? i really do hope you dont know oda btw….
It was a pun, you know 'cause Ace is the name of Bruce Wayne's dog in Batman Beyond.
-
no, I already sent a letter to him. But some of the members that posted in this thread were going to send a pack of letters to him and use a P.O. box and that costs money…and people were going to pitch in...that's where I say "I don't have the money or the 'umph' =D

Question for Ocean:
About the fan letters, can we send our fan letters to you by email? And also, can we send our fan letters in any size we want? Its just that I got this big letter that I want to send to Oda but after thinking about how long it might take for you to translate it, I just want make sure that if you are up for it before I send it to you.
