That was my main takeaway too. Sonics face isn't the complete disaster I feared, but I don't buy for a single milisecond that he's physically interacting with the real human. Which is, you know, not ideal.

It doesn't help that a real human would instantly freak out about those filthy shoes touching his head.

Jaleel White is the one true Sonic voice and you know it.
He really really REALLY shouldn't also be the one true Manic and Sonia voices, however.
James Marsden makes me angry because I keep thinking he's Jason Marsden.
Charlie Day as Sonic would have made this even more surreal.

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Big, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Espio, Charmy, Vector
Then the other characters I know are: Blaze, Silver, Metal Sonic, and of course Dr. Eggman

Nope. Which is kinda weird that we just got an announcement for the IDW Sonic book's 2019 Annual will have a cover by Yuji Uekawa (Sega's artist who redesigned everyone for Dreamcast era) including the 2 new heroines Tangle and Whisper.

Oh my God, it's like every attempt to make him look more believable completely backfired. Why color his hands white instead of just having him wear gloves?!

I guess so, but it's still a rather pointless and distracting change considering he's still a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog wearing shoes. Frankly, it's the least of the issues with his design, but it just really stood out to me as being pointless and distracting. Nobody would have questioned it if he was just wearing white gloves like he always does.
To be fair, actually, I think the white fur between his eyes is actually kind of a clever way to get around the whole connected eye thing from his normal design. Still though, this design just doesn't look right overall. Maybe it'll look better in the actual film?

It's made even more awful and hilarious when Detective Pikachu is taking its also cartoony designs and making them realisticly cartoony but it works.
Like, I understand the thought process of making his eyes smaller, but… they're still HUGE eyes, so what's the point? And shrinking them down means there's a loooooot more real estate on his forehead than we're used to.
Not the worst thing ever, but it doesn't make we want to see the movie. What's the point? Why make Sonic realistic? Humans are mostly background noise in that universe save Eggman. Just make an awesome fully animated movie and call it a day.

Kind of redundant when we already have the video games…......and the OVA.
I don't think of video games as movies. And, having an OVA doesn't mean there can't be a feature length animated movie with a higher budget telling a different story involving Sonic characters.
