Hey everyone, I'm kingoffans making my first ever post on Arlong Forums^^ I'm a long time lurker and I'm finally joining the various discussions of One Piece fandom. First I wanna say Yahoo Funiamtion has One Piece^^. Sorry about that. I know it's out of place but I never had a chance too. Yata^^ Now is that a cool title or what?!? I vote that we rank this as best title in One Piece History! Lol. Seriously, to me its like the most uber pwnage title ever^^ It also answers the question of when the battle will finally end between Luffy and Lucci^^ My prediction is 309 will end with Luffy's finishing blow to Luffy. It just seems what Toei would do^^

Very good episode overall. They added some filler battles with the marines, but that was to be expected (Sogeking lookaway for the win!). Teh animation with the marine fights was a bit lackluster at times, but the Luffy vs Lucci bits looked real nice. I agree, Lucci will probably be defeated next episode.

I hope we get to see those wierd DF using marines animated next episode.

Wow, a lot of this episode was, but it was still great! Nice fighting sequences. It seems that they are saving the DF captains for the next episode…probably to make for more suspense.

I love that preview. Lucci's last attack is animated in such a badass way....

only thing I didnt like was that a lot of the marines just stood around where is in the manga they were constantly attacking.

Animation and art wise though it's the best we've seen in a long time. The jet attacks were done like they were when they first premiered which isn't perfect but a lot better than before. Plus they played my favorite song, yay! I love when they do that!

I kinda liked too how Luffy didn't go down quite right away from the second roku un gun… at first I was like, "NO they are SO not gonna make him take that attack four times!"... but watching Luffy fall was really dramatic and handled very well.

I use to think in manga that the good guys would never fall like that but I guess I was wrong.

! not sure what to think of Luffy sorta performing Jet Gattling all ready… I mean that's basically what he was doing to stop Lucci's attacks and all ready it looks pretty bad ass. I wonder if it'll be different next episode. Im sure Toei won't let us down though, they generally dont' when it comes to the end of a battle

! It sure looked like it, but you know it wasn't. . .I'm positive that the real Jet Gatling Gun is going to be faster, and even blurrier than what he was using. It's going to look f'n phenomenal.

Solid episode. Reading the manga, i thought this fight climax was kinda..lacking something special, but the music and voices are really making a difference here. Usopp and co. supporting Luffy from the bridge was awesome, even better when followed by a classic piece of bgm.

And the ratings are really "skyrocketing", 307 scored 10.5%

Just watched the episode and I must say I´m impressed at how the handled the Jet moves in the first part of this one. They are still not what they could be (like in the Brand New World opening or in the Unlimited Adventure game) but at least they were done so fast that you could say you couldn´t see what was happening what is dozen times better then the super slow-motion moves from before.

The second part however had really weird Jet moves. I mean, if that wasn´t somehow a kind of Gomu Gomu no Gatling Gun then I don´t know. Same counts for the other moves. They weren´t too fast for the eye anymore and furthermore they had no effect on Rucchi. Really weird.

And the thing with the introduction of the 200 Captains and Commanders was so nice. No matter what good new background themes the makers will come up with, no theme gives me as much the One Piece feeling as "Surrounded" does it. Such an old theme and yet so fitting. Me likes. I really hope that Toei wont screw up the coming episodes.

! They just have to make Jet Gatling as in Unlimited Adventure. In other words it really needs to look as if Lucci´s been hit by shots because in the manga we the panels where Lucci´s been hit by multiple fists is the slowmotion panels that show what actually happens while the spread shows what it looks like in normal motion. And here it looks like he´s been hit by canon fire. In the manga there´s a clear difference between the two and I really hope that Toei will get the stuff right here.
! And another thing is the music. I mean I really wouldn´t like to experience another climatic letdown as in Skypiea. The world of music has hundreds of classic masterpieces. Something should do a finale justice as Dvorak´s New World Symphony did it for the Arabasta finale.

Episode was good, Luffy VS. Lucchi was great. I enjoyed all of it except the 200 captain thing…. That was just stupid.. If they were going to do that, they shouldn't have brought up Smoker's name, because now Smoker and T-Bone look like crap. Those captains were shit, they weren't doing any different than the normal marines... 20 Captains being defeated by Nami, lmao... Jeez, Great Job TOEI, you seriously know how to ruin stuff. (Its just plain obvious that its filler, the animation was sooo different).

Yeah, after a great intro for the 200 hundred their handling really was a bit disappointing. But that doesn´t mean that Smoker looks weaker because he´s far above Captain level. Not only because he´s Commodore already but because it was made clear by Hina that it is his attitude that was a hinderance of long overdue promotions. The reason why he gets mentioned is that the Strawhats don´t know better but to think that all captains are the same like him.

However it is in fact disappointing that Nami was able to handle Marine HQ so well. They really look nothing different like cannon fodder.

Now that you mention it, it it kind of strange how some of the captains were being treated like cannon fodder. Well, except for Zoro. He seemed to he having more difficulty than usual (then again, he was creaming them too easily as well).

Hehe, I just realized something. They made Luffy use a gatling-like move in gear 2nd mode in this episode…good one TOEI XP.

Otherwise, I tought the Luffy vs Lucci scenes were directed and animated with a lot of style. Loved them.

I thought this episode was so-so at best. Animation was good, gear 2nd looked better than ever, and the 2nd rokougan was BAM! awesome. But the rest...man, toei, what is it with you and intensity?
This climatic episode would only be suspenseful if the marines and Lucci were heroes, because they fare so poorly. Like already mentioned, the Captains were just...laughable. There was never the "OH SHIT, THEY'RE CORNERED!" feeling from the manga. They went down like flies.

And Luffy vs Lucci...Lucci constantly gushes blood, but Luffy practically shrugs off the first rokugan, looking fresh right after? WTF?
And It made the 2nd half of the fight a mysterious 180¤. In the manga, it at least seemed like both parts made an effort, with the constant exchange of rapid blows (toei really cheaped out here, too).

I have no doubt that next week will be dramatic, awesome-looking and worthy of it's source - I just wish toei had the same attitude to the build up as well as the climax.

I did kinda notice he took that first one rather well. I was surprised at the lack of blood but I think it was too show how much power Luffy had or something like that. I stil can't wait for next episode.

odd, I didn't know so many people were dissapointed with Enel's defeat. I've never been dissapointed in how Toei did a finishing move. Maybe with Bellemy but I was dissapointed with that all together. It wasn't Toei's fault. I guess they can't all be like Crocodile

Actually every finale has to be like Arabasta if it want´s to work as an anime finale. Motion, colors, voices and background music are the four elements that an anime has over the manga counterpart. And of these four elements the BGM is the most important one of delivering the intense climatic feel of a great finale. Without a decent BGM colors, motion and voice acting can´t make for a great manga to anime climax transfer.

And the Skypiea finale was seriously lacking a decent climatic theme. Everything else was done well but without a theme the viewer doesn´t get packed by the scene. If we would be talking about an anime that generally has a lack of decent BGM then the viewer probably already could live without it, but in One Piece where we really have lots of great BGMs (that´s actually what makes the OP anime IMO) it really is a letdown if the second great finale we ever saw lacks good BGMs. That´s why it fails as a finale in the anime.

Really? People hated the end of Skypiea? I loved the BGM that played during that scene. I mean, it was mostly silence before the flashbacks, but it made the sound effects seem more dynamic. To each his own I guess.

watching this episode again, Toei needs to like remember when people should be bleeding and when they shouldn't. In some shots Lucci is bleeding and in others he's not. Same with Luffy. When Ussop takes his mask off, he's not bleeding, then in the next scene he is… what's the deal with that?

From the looks of the next episode it seems like it will be very good animation wise.

And, yeah, I expect the filler episodes to look a bit more polished since they are probably able to take more time in animating them (or something)..

Well we gotta understand that Enies Lobby was quite lengthly, while sort compared to other arcs you also have to realize how dangerously close Toei was to the manga. While I don't know how that could influence the animation and art, but I'm sure it has some play in the quality.

I generally agree to this as a possibility myself, as Toei might have been under stricter timetables when producing these episodes. Of course there are probably other reasons as well…

Though I only noticed Enies Lobby's animation (and art) quality lowering around episode 300. I found all of the CP9 fights generally looked real good in comparison. Most of Lucci vs. Luffy has looked good so far with Gear Third being the best imo.

Well, the production quality has (as I've been told) consistently bad since the DBF, and Skypiea wasn't exactly a milestone in artwork/animation history either. OP hasn't been really good since Arabasta, which was, what, four years ago?

Why would you expect Toei to make changes now? Sure, OP isn't as profitable as it used to be but with the cost-cutting Toei is still raking in massive revenue. There wouldn't be any reason to change since the Japanese don't seem to care about quality all that much - only we picky ELS do.

Keep in mind for a normal animation studio like Gainax, one set of staff is working on episodes fourteen weeks ahead of when episodes air on television. Given that, and Toei's resources/multiple teams, it's safe to say Toei is probably in, if not almost at, Thriller Bark.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I think one of the reason for quality is because they don't get as much time as other studios do. One Piece is a long running series in its 300's which airs almost every week. Other series however are a certain length, mostly 26 episodes, which mostly get done before & during the airing.

What do you mean by One Pieces popularity decreasing in Japan? Was the highest point ratings wise for the show Arabasta or something? I'm hearing that it still gets really good ratings.

It's getting strong ratings, but truth is, pretty much every show these days is doing worse than few years ago. Even the #1, the ever unbeatable Sazae-san, does around 17%, when i remember seeing it doing ~25% in a regular basis not too much time ago.

You know how Roots was watched by something like 70% of all Americans when it aired? Yeah, that was OP during Arabasta - it was something like the #4 rated show during the peak during that era (not sure if that's all time or yearly).

Spectacular, but considering this is the climax of the EL arc it's to be expected. OP was doing 7.0% not a month and a half ago, though, so that says a lot about how much people care for the side characters.
