It's also possible that he has already forgot what he saw on hancocks back … He is such an idiot. I just hope that he cares about haki cause he will see again that with it you can make more damage and as he knows that he has to become stronger i just hope that he uses his brain. I mean i just hope he cares about haki because i want to get more informations about it :)
Chapter 518 "Battle Arena" Discussion
-
-
it's not relevant to discuss if it makes sense that haki is explained during the battle in the arena or not …. Focus your energie on other interesting points.
I speculate a revolution on amazon lily.I'm not really discussing I made a statement and like 4or 5 ppl questioned me about it.
In the end you either see it as stupid or you don't.
Also a lot of you guys are confusing what can haki do and how it works when it comes to the explanation part but w/e.
I'm still waiting for a site to be posted so I can see the chap in its full glory

@ultimateclima:
Chapter was really good. I think that the people that said that Luffy isn't affected because he is not looking at her when Hancock does her attack is right. Luffy had his eyes covered both times. Everybody that has been turned to stone had their eyes open and facing her. Why else emphasize Luffy having his eyes closed when the beam attacked? There's probably more to the attack though than just having your eyes open for the beam to hit.
I can't wait for next week to see better pictures of Hancock's sisters in action. The designs when they transform look a lot better than how they look like normally.
His eyes were closed. I can't disagree, but perhaps they closed after he was hit by the mero mero wave.
However, if it were that easy, why did Vice-admiral Momonga stab his hand while looking down to prevent the effects of the Mero Mero wave?
-
Two to one say Luffy get poisioned
-
@CCC:
Just a note that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet:
There's a good chance that the name of "Bakyura" the panther was inspired by "Bagheera" from the Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Granted, the names are quite a bit different, but this, compounded with the Kaa look-alike snakes in Kuja, kind of affirms any thoughts that Oda was inspired by the tales of Mowgli…It wouldn't be the first time we got a Disney reference
-
However, if it were that easy, why did Vice-admiral Momonga stab his hand while looking down to prevent the effects of the Mero Mero wave?
Well it must involve the feeling of lust for Hancock, because that must overcome every other emotion a person is feeling.
My guess is that either people become so enticed to her beauty that they cant help but look at her, so the attack works, or the beam makes you want to have her, and impure thoughts or wanting Hancock for some reason turns you into stone.
Her other attack she uses makes me think its the former. The Kiss she makes according to Luffy according to C-net's translation is similar to a lead bullet. So she was able to turn that kiss into stone like she can turn the people into stone. The former theory makes since because that means the reason everybody loves her is because she is beautiful and not just a side effect of her power.
That's just my two cents. Also I'm not sure anymore if the island knows what devil fruits are. This could really be a curse from the Gorgon or the Sisters hiding their real abilities from the island but time will tell.

Luffy's saying that Hancock's bullet isn't made of lead. That's why he got hurt. It seems that not all of Hancock's attacks are ineffective on Luffy.
Perhaps, that Kiss bullet is actually Haki combined with her powers.
-
kick that bitch's ass luffy!!! where is oda's note that there will be no op for 2 weeks???? i already downloaded 518 but the note wasn't there.
-
Well that throws my rant out of the window. I guess her powers could possibly cause people to fall in love with her.
You are rightigetownd, the kiss probably is haki and her powers, whether her powers are devil fruit, a curse, or some strange mixture of both. Either way I'm hoping for an explanation soon.

His eyes aren't closed. That's just comedic 'white-eyed death.'
Oda was playing with us making us think he was affected. -
I guess this fight with the Two sisters will lead Luffy to learn Haki… Either he will learn by observation and remember that somehow he did it with the bull of TOBIUO RIDERS and the feeling he had with Reilergh at Human auction or the old Amazon Lady seing Luffys potential and the newspapers about his bounty would notice he is not using haki and could win the fight if got to learn it even half-way to master.
It would be as awesome as Shanks did in WB ship.... most of the amazon espectators would faint with his never seen before giant haki and his simple attacks without using the rubber fruit and the gears would make more damage than those two together... imagine how powerfull it would be with the rubber and the gears!
Coooooooooooooooooooool!!!Perhaps haki can be effective even against logia user as Aokiji, Kizaru, Smoke as it would be something more than just a phisycal power up.
Now... the possibilities: Luffy would teach the other members of his crew to use haki. Zoro, Sanji and maybe Franky also would go uber strong. Seing the "HAKI arrows, Ussop could forge his weapons and nami's as well with Haki(using Luffy's or zoro's, I guess it wont matter). Franky could power him up and Sunny-go with it as well.
Niiice. :-D

Oh man, you're reaching really really really far with his one.

Ok I don't know if i missed this in the chapter, but how did the scene go from the kiss bullet to luffy tied in snakes in the arena. Did I miss something?
-
Interesting chapter. seems both sisters have snake modeled zoan fruits. Plus hancock's character design was made a little deeper here. She was obviously suprised and even distraught that a man could resist her charm, that would make me consider her not being able to fight at all. Yet she has that kiss bullet which I hope to be explained later.
Also, did anyone else notice that the Sisters said what was on hancock's back should not be seen by anyone, even if they died. Makes me consider the fact that they might be hiding it with others (not themselves) in mind. I dunno, just a thought,
-

The other Amazons hanging around outside were ordered to capture him after Hancock knocked him out of the air.
-
GREAT CHAPTER!!!
luffy is always the best at getting pissed for good reasons (also stupid reasons ^^) and his brute force has been impressing us for years.
i actually like the fact that the back-thing hasn't been revealed yet, not so that the stupid speculations continue but to get a chance to actually figure this out bit by bit… since i don't think that any1 got it right till now.just a total different thing which you guys may have realised a lot sooner:
i have been watching the whole skiepia arc again and just realised that enel had this sharingan-like looking sign on his drums and also some curtains which lead to the arc maxim. since the arc maxim was a pretty advanced piece of technologie and especially cause sentoumaru also had the sharingan-sign as part of simbol on his belly i would suggest, that it is somehow conneced to dr. vegapunk or the tribe/scientist which are related/involved with him. -
^I actually like that idea. I believe Enel's coverstory hinted that the Bilkians were descended from the moon, which was full of robots and stuff. Good find.

PLOT
Luffy should've easily been able to break free from those snakes too PLOT
-
Nice find on the connection. At first I was just gonna throw the historical/technical details of that symbol at you (which I'll do anyway) and claim that you were crazy, but that kind of makes sense.
Here's the wikipedia entry on the Tomoe:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TomoeAnd here's a picture I took of Raijin, part of Enel's inspiration (design-wise), when I was in Nikko, Japan.
-
nice, now i got some actual knowledge and don't have to use the word "sharingan" ever again!! ^^
thank you!!!
TOMOE it is from here on forth!also: I AM CRAZY!! :)
-
Luffy should've easily been able to break free from those snakes too. PLOT.
According to? Luffy comments how the snakes are like steel. Breaking steal using your force is one thing, breaking out of being bound something completely different. The snakes were likely "imbued" with Haki…though I would rather think they were not for some reason...
-
I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. Listen to where I'm coming from.
Okay:
Paramecia = Learn one ability, and that's what you get.
Zoan = Transform into animal/reptile (Dinosaur, perhaps snake) gain speed, strength, vision, etc. etc. Depending on animal traits.
Logia = They can manipulate, control, and produce what their element entails - They also gain any special bonus that the element can have. Now, from what I remember… Both Luffy and Moria have proven to gain a "Upgrade" i terms of strength, speed, etc. WHICH in fact is a Zoan trait - Transformation.
Moria's shadow absorbing move, which himself and Luffy both did gave him a "Transformation" - Nightmare Luffy and Nightmare Moria respectively.
So what is to say that a Zoan could not produce a Paramecia-Type effect with a Zoan if it were appropriate? I think its a plausible theory. Thoughts?
I must disagree. Zoan-fruits only improve the user depending on the traits they are given, like camouflage, flight, improved speed, toughness, etc., as you understand. Logia users are limited to their element; they can change the form they make their attacks with, but fire is fire, smoke is smoke, and so on. But Paramecia Fruit Users are available to use their powers as much as their imagination, as they are more "magical" in nature than Zoan or Logia users. Luffy's power of elasticity allows him to basically alter his body any way he wants as long as it is not torn to shreds, i.e. inflate himself, stretch himself, pump blood at ridiculous speeds, etc. Hancock has shown that not only she can petrify others that has ANY admiration for her, but she can focus it to her finger and use it as a projectile as seen is "Pistol Kiss". She can probably do many other attacks, like using all her fingers to shoot with.
If you (or others) are suggesting that Hancock could have a "paramecia" like power with a "zoan" power, it is highly unlikely. There is no animal that can turn living things to stone, and use heart shaped beams to do it. Her power is simply to incapacitate the ones who admire her and other similar "love" related attacks.

Hey Guys, I found something interesting.
This is Luffy's face taken from Ch. 279 Page 12, right after Enel attempts to shock Luffy for the first time:
(Ch. 279, pg. 12)Which is the same face he makes when Boa tries her Mero Mero powers on him:
(Ch. 518, pg. 4)
and
(Ch. 518, pg. 5)Funny face, wonder if it means ANYTHING?

Luffy was practically bound when he was between those buildings in water 7, he should have no problem breaking out of some like steel snakes. It's not like it matters. I guess it'd be more to do with breaking out means killing the snakes, but wanting snakes since it fits in with the culture.
PKS: Yeah that was the first thing I thought of.
Though as Soda showed me it also showed up in Alabasta

You want an explanation? I'll give you an explanation
PLOT
Luffy should've easily been able to break free from those snakes too PLOT
Which can be explained by him being damaged enough by the "Pistol Kiss" (he was clearly hurt considering his grunt and the comment on it) and subsequently having snakes set on him (of which he commented on its strength.) "Steel like" is used many many times in anime/manga just to say that something is incredibly strong, not just in a literal fashion.
Though the only question would by why they let him go. Which can be explained by them simply wanting him to be defeated by the executioner in a battle which they were sure would kill him.

Oh come on. Anything short of impaling him at this point (for a single attack) isn't going to damage Luffy much.
yeah yeah i know there are one hit attacks that can kill luffy, but you know what i mean!

I just read it…they did sorta ok, but they put some unnecessary special effects, and some of the text is all messed up...I would suggest to wait for a more reliable scan.
-
Another interesting thing is that right after Luffy totally 0wn3d the Black Panther, the Amazons in the crowd were saying that @One:
"He wasn't even using Haki!"….
Which means that when Haki is used….it can be spotted........or maybe because they train so much using Haki that they can just tell? Hmmmmm......
Also in the beginning of the chapter, the sisters and Boa didn't even question why Luffy didn't turn to stone when Boa mentioned that he saw her back....the sisters automatically said @The:
"…Then he wil have to die. That is the only solution"
Which leads me to believe that "anyone seeing their back turns to stone and die" is a bunch of bullshit to the MAX.

Ah ha ha…
I love Luffy's "somehow your attack did nothing" funny face. I knew it had appeared somewhere else before, but I had forgotten where. Thanks. -

I had not read the chapter when I made my post, that being said - I didn't know about the heart-shaped beam.. I was just suggesting, perhaps someone with a Zoan-Type fruit 'Snake' could use some sort of 'venom' to induce a paramecia like effect (Petrification) - In other words, Alter the original venom into something more.
Moria's stolen shadows transforming himself into a beast that can break islands in two was pretty much a 'Strength' increasing trait. Which as you said could be defined by the 'Magical' thing that Paramecia's have, however, I believe it would be dull if Paramecia's (Select Paramecia's I might add) are the only ones subject to changes such as this JUST because it hasn't been shown the other way around.
I think If Paramecia's could get strength/speed/etc. given powers, where those are Zoan-Fruit traits, why shouldn't a Zoan-user be able to have certain alterations, which could possibly be classified as paramecia? (The venom example).

Yeah the snakes were scared of bacura, for clarification

it seems that all three sisters have something on there back cause even though luffy saw whats on her back she still says that no one should see whats on "our backs"
-
Oh my god. Luffy's reaction to them being turned into stone was just awesome. It just seemed even more dramatic then the whole 'They're your nakama' scream that he usually does. Also the 'You really piss me off.' added to it.

It was a nice chapter, the cliffhanger was perfect for the moment.

Luffy's face after getting hit by the second mero mero beam is hilarious. And it looks like Hancock resembles Foxy, since she seems to be affected when people don't recognized her beauty.

wow Luffy has a uncanny ability of getting caught lol

Venom is an animal trait, but there is no such venom that literally turns people to stone. Paralyze, yes, but their physical structure is never altered. The thing about paramecia types is that they can alter people in bizarre ways that nothing natural can do, like Kalifa's Golden Awa turning people into near-frictionless bodies, Foxy's Noro Noro Beam slowing people down, Bleuno's Revolving Door techinique he used on Luffy (making his face spin around), and of course the abilities affecting the eater themselves. Basically, Paramecia fruit is more "SUPERnatural" in abilities, as opposed to "natural" like animals and elements.
One Piece is filled with non-sensical creatures, people and places, but there is a limit of what can be reasonable to the average reader. If I told a person "Luffy can stretch because he ate a fruit that gives him the power to become like rubber", then that is self-explanitory. If someone had a power that gave them the ability to turn into a made up creature that spits venom that can turn into stone, then it is pushing it a little far. Oda uses fruit powers that are related to things in the real world…otherwise, it would just be TOO outlandish, even for One Piece, I believe.
-
i don't want to fire up this discussion again but i'd go with freckles by now…
i dont want that discussion to but people focus on hancock but the thing is on all three cause all of them are hiding something not just one person.maybe the thing on their backs act as a puzzle and you need all three pieces to figure it out
