Not really feeling Moria's voice at the moment.
Though I really do need to hear more, I'm sure I could get used to it, but time will tell.

I kinda always picture Moria having a voice similar to Buggy's but higher pitched. So he may sound pretty good IMO (haven't watched the epi yet)
I did expect Moria to have a high-pitched, weird voice, but definately have to hear more scenes with him. I like it so far, though, as I do Perona's voice too.
i kind of like morias voice it sure creepy and high pitch i sure it will improve once he interducted. love hogbacks and old man with wound va they sure pulled them off.
adsolam scenes where great and persona going to get on my neaves like i expect she would.
Wow. A lot of people expected a high pitched voice.
I expected this lazy, deep voice, ever since I saw him slouching when Luffy ran into Odz's chamber.
I imagined a really deep booming voice since he's so big.
I've grown to be comfortable with Perona's voice. She sounds like that voice you always hear in hentai series.
A pretty good episode in my opinion. I didn't think Moria's voice was perfect, but I always imagined him as a high-pitched voice (Especially during the Kishishi), so I'm glad they kept that.
I thought the scene where Spoil drops the laturn and everyone else's shadows were seen was pretty powerful. Anyone else agree?
Spoil? He has a name?!
Perona was right, Kumashi isent cute when he talks
Wow… I hate to say it but I love Moria's voice and Perona's. I had been reading the comments before I heard the voices and thought I might be disappointed by I am quite happy. The kishishishi thing was great too.
Also, I don't know the VA's name but isn't Kumacy's voice the same as Dondo-chaka from Bleach? They sound similar.
Perona was right, Kumashi isent cute when he talks
Hahaha, thats exactly what I was thinking when Bearsy talked. XD
The name suggests a somewhat cuteness to the character, and cutesy to the voice, but at the time I thought Perona just thought that talking in general wasn't cute. XD So NEVER DID I EXPECT for such an…un-cute voice.
Kumacy sounds almost exactly like how I imagined Moria to sound.
Yeah, I thought so too. But a few months ago (I think someone made a post) I realized it was cause OF his voice. I've been picturing some deep black guy voice, I'll see if I was close when I see the episode eventually. XD
Should we call him Kumasy or Bearsy?
I kind of like Bearsy better. But then again, we aren't going to call Bartholemule Kuma "Bartholemule Bear".
I watched the episode. Very good episode. I loved when Ryuuma busted the door open and Hogback yells in such a high pitch. Everything was good but 2 voices. I didn't really like Kumashi's voice(Sounded kinda old to me) and I really didn't like Moria's voice(Sounds way to young and just totally different from what I thought). I figured Moria would have a deep and rather menacing voice. I hope he gets a dub voice that fits better.
@Lobster:
Should we call him Kumasy or Bearsy?
I kind of like Bearsy better. But then again, we aren't going to call Bartholemule Kuma "Bartholemule Bear".
Because Kuma is Bartholomew's name.
"Kumashi" is just her taking the word "Bear" and adding "sy" at the end, because he is a Bear. It's just her calling him "Bear" with a Cutesy Suffix at the end.
So it would be better to call him "Bearsy", Since it's better to translate EVERYTHING. It's pretty much the same deal as Nakama. It has a Translation, but people Stupidly tend to use it to be "More Japanese".
To be honest I never liked the idea of Moria have a deeper voice. I'm glad he doesn't has.
I need to hear Kumasy's voice now.
I hope he gets a dub voice that fits better.
Hahahah, oh man, I just had the thought of Mike McFarland voicing Moria. XD
But Kumasy is his name too, so the same thing applies.
Technically it should be Bear and Bearsy or Kuma and Kumasy
But still, I like Kuma and Bearsy anyway. So I hope that's how the official translators handle it.
If Vincent Price was still alive, I wish he voiced Moria in the English Dub.
I think Moria's voice is pretty awesome. I always pictured him with a shrill voice. Simply fits with his big evil kid personality and his laugh.
One thing I'm not too sure about though is the sound of his footsteps. I already found this kind of cute cartoony sounds incredibly annoying for Chopper, I have no idea why they thought it'd be a good idea to do the same for Moria.
I think Moria's voice is pretty awesome. I always pictured him with a shrill voice. Simply fits with his big evil kid personality and his laugh.
Yeah, Moria is too childish to have the voice of a generic fat man. Besides, I don't think his laugh would work in a deeper voice.
omg
Hogback's voice is amazing in 343. Is that Buggy's VA?
If Vincent Price was still alive, I wish he voiced Moria in the English Dub.
Oh man, that would be amazing.
I'm going to reserve my judgements on Moria's voice until I've heard more than one line. It could go either way at this point IMO.
Ok, I watched the episode, and I must say that I greatly enjoyed Moria's voice. It really fits in his personality, and the "Kishishishi" was just perfect.
I feel sorry for Bearsy though. Poor bastard got a pretty horrible voice.
@Lobster:

No, It's pretty much a different situation.
Because he's an Actual Bear, she's just calling him "Animal-sy"
it's like, it Ruins the Meaning to leave it as "Kumasy" or "Kumashi", the Point is, she's calling him a Bear in a Cutesy way.
It'd be like if they decided to call the things in Arabasta "Banana-wani" instead of "Banana-Diles" or to have Luffy Say "I wana Beat up that Stupid Wani" instead of "I wana beat up that Stupid Croc"
Stupid Wani? xD
That would be hillarious.
But yea, I understand what you mean now.
I loved Abs intro. Extremely hilarious.
I'll have to hear more Moria and Perona to get an actual feel for them. Ryuma, and Hogback's laughter are the best. Abs doesn't really sound like a laugh, and Perona's is as akward as I thought it'd be. Moria, like I said, I need some more time to get an actual feel for him. I can see it work though, especially later but I was expecting more of a Buggy-like voice.
And since Ryuma answered the question of whether or not the zombies have their donors voices, I'm a little scared of the what it'll mean near the end.
And some of the translations for Japanese words don't sound as good imo. Nakama, or Comrade/friend. I prefer Nakama. But that may be because I'm mentally scared from the horror of the Forkids Arlong arc which ended on that note. And I also think it should be Kumasy. If Oda wanted it to be bearsy, he would have done it in that katakana.
Then We should Just have them Be Bananawani's, and Crocodile should be that "Stupid Wani" because he didn't write it in Katakana.
or, Chopper should be a Tonakai, not a Reindeer. Oda didn't Write "REINDIIAA" In Katakana and Pell is a Tori, not a Bird, since He didn't Write "Baado" in Katakana.
Maybe we should just have the Characters say EVERYTHING in Romanji for that matter, since People apparently don't like Translations, they prefer everything, Including Simple words that have good ways to translate, like Nakama, to be Japanese anyway
It would look something like this:
ONE PIECE: Episode 273 - Subete For the sake of Mamoruing My Nakama! Gear 2nd Hatsudou!
When things are written in katakana, that is generally how the writer wishes them to pronounced. When something or someone is given a name in katakana, that is how the writer wants then to pronounced. Kuma from Bart Kuma is the same as Kumasy. They were both written in katakana, and are their respective names. If you say that Kuma should be Bearsy, then you're also implying that it should be Bart Bear. Your argument that she's just calling him "animal"-sy doesn't really stand. Are you Oda? Do you KNOW that that is what he had her say?
I know the same point can be made to my post, so let's just leave it at that.
And Nakama has a meaning that's hard to translate. Friend just doesn't carry the same sort of meaning. And again, let's just leave it that. You have your opinions and I have mine.
Friend
Nakama Means FRIEND!!
It's not Hard To Translate!! Crewmate Works too!
I know Japanese, it's not like I'm just pulling things out of my ass here!!
When Luffy Says "Ore" he also writes that In Katakana, despite that it's written in Hiragana Regularly. and, "Banana-wani" was written in Katakana too, if I remember correctly.
Sometimes, they use Katakana like that because this is a Kids Manga, and it's Easier to read.
I was reading another Manga recently, where they talked about a Turtle, and they used Katakana "Kame" for it, it wasn't the Turtles name, it was an inconciquential Turtle, but they chose to use Katakana instead of Hiragana or Kanji, because it was a Shounen Manga.
Oda Does the same all the time, if I get a few minutes to look through it, I'm sure I could find a few examples
EDIT: Just grabbed my Volume 33, the Following Things were in Katakana, despite Being Japanese words:
Baka - Idiot
Oyabin - Boss
Sugoi - Awesome
Bakiyarou - an Insult, usually translated as "asshole"
Kitsune - Fox
@Twilight:

KF would make a person believe that, eh? But just listen to other Japanese shows. "Nakama" is said just as commonly as "freind" is in our shows. It really isn't a hard word to translate.

Stop trying, no point in trying to reason with them.
It's like in Arlong Park Arc, when what Luffy screams is translated to "NAMI! WE ARE NAKAMA" cause it has "more meaning" than if it was translated right. But, "Nami! You Are ONE OF US!" works just as well, or even better sense you know its in our langauge.
Kuma shouldn't be translated as it is a name. It's not like if we go to Japan and say for some reason someone hated their kid enough to name them "Fox", the Japaneses wouldn't try to call that person "Kitsune", they would say Fox in a Japanese Accent.
Though Technically, Kuma should kind'of be localized, as his name is in an Animal theme, and it makes more sense to call him Bear, atleast to an English Reader. But if it wasn't for the theme, Localizing his name isn't really needed at all, as its just a name.
Bearsy on the other hand, is really different. Bearsy's name is based of his appearance and the fact that he is indeed a bear. So Localizing his name is a must. If he was a Squirrel, he would've been called Squirrelly, and if a Cat, he would've been called Catty.
It makes sense, unless you have "Japanese OWNS the English Language" like most Anime fans tend to think now-a-days.
Nakama:
Friend
Family
Ally
Crewmate
Comrade
Companion
Pal
Partner
Associate
Colleague
Generally part of a group
It's soo easy to translate depending on the situation.
Aokiji talking about how any one is an Associated with Nico Robin hold an heavy burden. Johny and Yosaku are Partners, as well as Zoro's Friends. Clover is a Colleague of Nico Oliva. Luffy and Gaimon are both Pals. Koby was Luffy's Traveling Companion at the beginning of the series.
Let's Switch those words with Nakama:
Aokiji talking about how any one is an Nakama with Nico Robin hold an heavy burden. Johny and Yosaku are Nakamas, as well as Zoro's Nakama. Clover is a Nakama of Nico Oliva. Luffy and Gaimon are both Nakama. Koby was Luffy's Nakama at the beginning of the series.
Em I the only one who dinfs the 2nd set really awkard?
I never said Kuma's name was supposed to be Translated, just Bearsy's
I never said Kuma's name was supposed to be Translated, just Bearsy's
I know, I was just throwing my 2 Cents on the whole Kuma/Bear argument, plus my views no localization.
Uhh…who cares? Call them whatever you want.
Long parts of this episode were boring.
Um, I thought the pacing was spot on.
Great to see that Toei continues to do the Arc justice. I hope that they´ll never get back to W7/EL level again. I completely loved the voices. I might need to hear more of Moria though but so far his voice fits the bizarre freak character I see in him. And I really love that ALL the unique character laugh´s were kept. Kishishishi is more or less easy to imagine how it rolls from the tongue. But Fossfossfoss and Horohorohoro I could never fully imagine to make a good laugh. And Toei just showed that it works. Credits go out to Toei for keeping the laughs and to the voice actors who give it a good portrayal.
On a related note, is Absalom´s voice actor the same who voices Abarai Renji from Bleach? It gave me the impression at least.
No, Absalom isn't Kentaro Ito, he's Hiroaki Miura. His only other role that I've heard from him is a few voice clips while we was Blazin' Flizard in the Megaman games.
And I also learned that Absalom was a Biblical son of David, and was deemed the most beautiful man in the kingdom. Neat. Wonder if that's what Oda was going for.

I really, really, REALLY hope they don't ever go back to Enies Lobby-type pacing. One chapter per episode is fucking brutal.
I'd rather they take a season break or even do another filler arc. The Icehunter arc wasn't the best thing I've ever seen, but it was certainly better than the Davy Back/Foxy/Apis/Goatsex filler episodes. How about some cover stories? Do 10 episodes that cover things like Jango/Fullbody, Eneru, the Baroque Works breakout, even Ace's search for Blackbeard.
If they get close to the manga again, just finish Thriller Bark and do those fillers I suggested. They can even call it "The Cover Story Arc" or something.
My favorite voice so far was Moria's, it was different than what I imagined, but it is way better. It has that crazy old guy voice, with a cackling, lazy laugh, with a slight slur.
Moria's voice was funny.
Not what I expected, but it may fit.
I like Moria's voice. It goes with the maniacal evil bastard of Japanese villains needing high pitched laughs/voices (Warakia from Melty Blood anyone?). Perona sounds perfect..like an 11 year old bratty princess.
Ode to Joy playing had me laughing so hard.
The animation was definitely subpar this time around, but that's the only real complaint I got for this one. I like the voices for Bearsy and Perona and especially Gecko Moria. He really helps accentuate that bizzare nature of the series.
Not much went on in the episode, but that is mostly because it is primarily devoted to gaining more insight about Thriller Bark and what is about to transpire. The action is undoubtedly going to pick up in future episodes.
Ugh, when will the art shake off the Suck Bug? At least Franky, Nami, and to a lesser extent, Robin came out of this unscathed. Man, you'd think that with how successful the series is in Japan, that Toei would invest a bit more in it.
Anyway, Moria's voice worked I guess, though I had imagined it to be deeper, yet have similar inflection. But seriously, what the hell was up with the deepened cutesy sound effects for his feet? They should've crashed down and shook the whole room. Other than that, Perona had a predictable cutsy/brattish voice, Bearsy I had no expectations for, and Hogback's seiyuu shouldn't even be able to speak with how he changes pitch left and right.
Oh well, a servicable episode, but nothing spectacular.
I think you're all skirting around the important issue of Nami's thighs. It looked like Absalom was giving it another go in her "landing" scene.
But on a serious note, I really don't like how they've done Perona's eyes; in one scene you couldn't even see the white. She looks like a monster.

A large portion goes to the movies now I think. That's the way I see it anyway. Though even then they still put out shit like Movie 8.
I didn't think the art in this ep was as bad as it could have been, but it was probably the worst of this arc so far.

Ok, my bad then. Thanks for the info.^^

Erm, Thriller Bark had one chapter per episode and it´s anything but brutal. Water 7/Enies Lobby didn´t suck because of that but because all the episodes that sucked (because it would be unfair to say that there weren´t good ones) were handled in a way as if the people who were responsible never fully understood the flair of One Piece.
Did not like Moria's voice
Didn't like Perona's animation
LOVED Kumacy voice. Not at all what I expected but amazing.
And yes, the Ode to Joy part with Absalom wins everything ever
