No joke, I actually used to be in a metal band called Van Winkle.

RE: Looking for fans of Prog rock
I grew up listening to the Phil Collins era, and suffice to say I've become so sick of him that it's hard to make a 100% unbiased judgment.
But albums like Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Selling England and the Lamb (although it's a bit overrated) piss over 80s Genesis.
And that's not even considering Peter Gabriel's solo career.

RE: Sonic Youth
My favorite band of the 80s and maybe the 90s. I really hope Thurston and Kim's divorce doesn't mean the end of the band.
In order of greatness I'd rank their stuff from the 80s/90s period as:
Daydream Nation
Sister
Dirty
Goo
Evol
Washing Machine
A Thousand Leaves
NYC Ghosts & Flowers
Bad Moon Rising
Experimental Jet Set
Confusion Is SexI'm not familiar enough with their 2000s material to rank it.

RE: Post-punk is realy cool
Music forum = Mr. Evil comes running back to ARLONG PARK
Anyway, my vote's for New Order, been listening to them a lot recently and really clicking with it.
Joy Division are also great, and had more consistent quality than NO (of course they also had a lot less material in total).
But combining both into one option? No contest.

RE: One more Gravely Voiced Angel In Heaven
Oh yeah, Hello Nasty is easily my favorite thing they put out in the 90s, though Paul's is still my jam.

RE: One more Gravely Voiced Angel In Heaven
Fuck, this is such a massive loss. I've always loved the Beasties since even before I properly delved into hip hop. Intergalactic was pretty much my first exposure to good rap.
I'll be playing Paul's Boutique tonight.
RIP

RE: General Music Thread
What's you guys' favorite Can album
All of their early 70s shit is great, but I'd go with Ege Bamyasi as my favorite, such a groovy album.
On the subject, does anyone else find Aumgn creepy as fuck

RE: Billy Joel - SING US A SONG YOU'RE THE PIANO MAN
I grew up listening to Billy Joel; my parents were both huge fans, so this is a thread I can get behind.
The Stranger is probably my favorite album, but his entire run from Turnstiles through An Innocent Man is pretty much brilliant.
For sure one of the best pop songwriters ever.
And I've fucking seen him live.

RE: The Music Genre You HATE
I don't outright hate any broad genre. I can usually find something I like in any of these categories.
I will say that I agree with Zephos in finding DEATH GROWLS kind of comical though.

RE: National Coronation Day Thread Part Two
I guess I'll join the party then. I'd always thought Dan was an unfunny, tyrannical douche and I couldn't be happier that he's gone.
I really thought he was that influential that his actions were the forums collective anger
This is one of the reasons I rarely posted on NPC for a while, I was reluctant to express myself on certain issues because I was afraid of modfucking, mass negging, etc.
