That was a chapter with no surprises or new suprising info, but it was sad, and it will be really sad in the anime i bet (with the piano bg). When i read that chapter, i said 'Wow, Brook's past is quite screwed up as well', i think it followed the tradition of the Mugiwara pirates tragic backstories. I hope the next chapter contain some connection of Brook's past with characters we know..
with the tradition of the mugiwara pirates tragic backstories, i think it's time to meet someone with the nightmare fruit.
Everyone keeps talking about the Straw Hats tragic back stories and I keep thinking of Usopp. Compared to the others, his past isn't all that tragic. Yeah, his mom died when he was young and he pretty much raised himself (from what we can tell) but it still didn't seem that bad. Just my thoughts.
He lied. Actually except or his dad his whole family was murdered in front of his eyes by Arlong's evil twin brother.

Including the pets? That bastard.
Brook's alive design sort of reminds me of Carne from the Baratie.
Pretty great chapter, reminds me of how awesome Laboon and Crocus are.

Usopp's dream isn't about his past. It's about his future. All the other crew members, including Brooke, are working for someone else, Usopp is trying to prove something to himself.
I think Usopp's also trying to meet his dad so he can show him he's become a real man, so he'd have to build up a reputation large enough to get to a point where he meets Shanks's crew, but that's kind of part of the whole "become a man" thing.
And I agree with All-Sunday, the glasses and mouth make him look like Carne.

I don't know, I think Nami wanted to draw that map of the world on her own. I don't think Bellemere had much to do with it. And Luffy is doing it for himself, it's just that he took it so far as saying he'd become Pirate King because of Shanks' dismissing his dreams, but he always meant to go out and become a great pirate. He said as much to Garp. Sanji also, he wanted to go to All Blue even before he met Zeff, it's just that now he's doing it for himself and Zeff. The same can be said for alot of the other Straw Hats too, their dream is their own, it's just that it became bigger and more focused due to the influence of somebody else. Usopp's might have been influenced by Yasopp's actions, so he fits in with how the rest of the crew's dreams developed over time.

Yes. They are all doing something for themselves clearly, but Usopp is the only one that doesn't share his dream with someone else.
Luffy is being powered on by Shanks
Zoro = Kuina
Nami sacrificed her childhood to help her village and so now she has to live the way she wants to for them (this is the weakest one, but I think it does hold)
Sanji = zeff
Chopper - Doctor (forgot his name) and Doctorine Kurena
Robin - Saul and the scholars
Franky - Tom
Brooke - Crew
Everyone is being pushed by people who have affected their past.
Except Usopp
Hey how cool was it if Usopp had a dad called Yasopp and he was powered by him?
Too bad it ain't like that, huh…
skarlath: Didnt Usopp promise to come back and tell Kayla all about his adventures? With true stories this time around? =)

was just going to say this, minus the sarcasm at the end

has he mentioned Kaya? like… at all?
And as to the Yasopp thing, he doesn't know his dad
Look. You all can disagree with me as much as you like. I just am pointing out that I feel the other members are more driven to prove things to other people while Usopp is striving to prove things to himself.

I agree with this, as long as you realize that the other crew-members are trying to fulfill their dreams for themselves AND for someone else. To say that, but that Usopp is just trying to prove his courage to himself, I can agree with.
I think he did once… but i could be mistaken. Besides, since they set out has nami mentioned her map? has Sanji mentioned the all blue? has chopper mentioned his panacea?

this is an issue i have brought up as well
i hate it myself
They mentioned all their dreams right before they entered the Grand Line, but I don't know if that counts. Nami HAS been drawing maps though. Sanji's dream doesn't need mentioning, because it's just a matter of finding it. And Chopper has to get a bit of courage before he can start working on the panacea, which is why in his fights, he mostly focuses on being a man. It's not that he copies Usopp's dream, it's that he needs to fulfill Usopp's dream for himself, at least in part, as part of fulfilling his own dream.
am i the only one salivating for a shanks/strawhats meeting? i hope Oda doesnt save that for the very end, i wish they would just have a casual meeting, just to…"catch up". Shanks to see Luffy, Usopp to see his father, etc.
I mean, after Ennies Lobby, the Strawhats are quite up there in "rank", and now another shichibukai down...its not like they are rookies anymore, that shanks would have no reason to drop in on. Dunno, just think its going to be cool :D

I wouldn't say Usopp is really powered that much by his father. It plays a role, but I'd say Kaya plays a much larger role in Usopp's drive than Yasopp.
Hey guys. Forgot to post this.
The chapter could be out extra early this week.
Monday is a holiday here and JUMP usually hits stands on Friday when Monday is a holiday. Don't crucify me if it doesn't pan out but there's a high possibility you could get the chapter in about 24 hours (maybe less).
NICE! Maybe I can read the chapter before sunset on Friday, that would be very nice… By the way, what holiday is it in Japan on Monday? curious
National Foundation Day.
It's the day the country was founded according to a book of poems and myths.
Monday was also free over here, but just because people felt that celebrating Thursday (Day that the constitution was signed) after a working day was stupid, so we got three free days in a row instead. :P
Yeah, Japanese people SUCK BALLS like that.
Sometimes there's a fuckin' Wednesday holiday.
A WEDNESDAY HOLIDAY
I bet I'll die in Japan.
Japan's must be like the Anti-Thesis of Mexico.
I swear we have like one month worth of "holydays" over here…

not to mention the everyday party that is known as the siesta
or EVERYONE TAKE A NAP time
Best Country Ever
Yea this has probrably been mentioned but i just wanted to post somethings I noticed:
Panda crew? Pandaman a pirate 50 years ago?
Mohmoo a female as there seems to be a Mohbull?
How is it that we are able to get the chapters before their release in the Weekly Shonen Jump?
How is it that we are able to get the chapters before their release in the Weekly Shonen Jump?
awesome people committing the "cool cool crime of burglary"

Underpants Gnomes
So that's it then. Jump is printed on stolen underpants.
For real? I always tought some hot models who messed up with the higher ups of Jump were the responsables for bringing us a bit of weekly joy.
What a way to ruin my bizarre fantasies.
Maybe it's a combination of all of the above? The hot models convince the higher ups to print the chapters on their underwear and do a fashion show wearing them. Then, the night after the Underpants Gnomes come in and steal the underwear and deliver them to awesome people of the underground manga scanning committee who then send out the files to wonderful people that trans and scanlate them for the rest of the fans across the globe.
Except that you've left out the part about the gnomes working in Letter/Animal pairs with the Wandering Gnome (of Travelocity commercials) being their secret boss, all while trying desperately to take over the Japanese publishing industry by bankrupting its most successful business arm, namely manga sales.
I feel like this is an important system that deserves its own thread
I think Sorachi said it best: Sometimes, Jump Comes Out on Saturday. This is one of those weeks so a Thursday release isn't surprising for our means. (besides, D.Gray-man is already out so I'm expecting something from OP within the next few hours)
Somehow thinking Mohmoo is female should be logical…but now all it does is make me think of the Arabic OP opening.
@_Meh_:

Ah, you're right I did forget that. But you forgot to mention the team of magic pixies the gnomes employ to influence the authors and artists while they are sleeping so that their particular plot points and character designs get out to the unsuspecting public, there by supplementing their control over the populace via subliminal messaging. It's all a conspiracy because once they have Japan's flow of manga publishing they are just one step closer to ruling the world.
Okie dokie. JUMP may be hitting some stands tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if scans started showing up in about 12 hours or less.
Again, it's a crapshoot so if it doesn't work out that way, don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for the update Greg. Seems I'm pulling an all nighter.
I personally would rather it come out later because that would mean less wait time before the next chapter.
