This chapter was awesom. I'm so glad to see the storm again. Now I just gotta see this animated in television now. Nightmare Luffy was just pwnsome. I really hope that Moria is down and out now. Although this arc turned into one of the best arcs EVER, I want to move on.
Chapter 479 "Warrior of Hope" Discussion
-
-
Or maybe because it's a popular attack that fans like and Oda likes to please fans and it has nothing to do with how a comic book character 'thinks'.
You act like this is a manga or something.
PULL IT TOGETHER, GREG.
-
This is what i would like to happen in the next chapter:
Everyone starts celebrating, but suddenly a very weak Moria rises and starts menacing the crew:
Moria: "I'm still not done with you!… Odz may be down but i'm not... your shadows will all be mi..."
then Odz's arm falls down crushing him.
Usopp, Nami and all the others go near him.Moria: "Please help me, i cant move... i will die for sure if I remain here... Please, I'll do anything you want"
Everyone: "Then release all of the shadows you've collected!"
Moria: "What? No way in hell I'd do that!"
Everyone: "Ok then, lets go guys..."
Moria: "Wait, wait!! I'll do it!"Then he releases the shadows.
It would be funny if the crew still doesnt help him at this point
I think the whole "let's hit his arm" was just foreshadowing for this moment.
Please Oda, surprise me! -
I say Odz's arm becomes the new crewmember!
Now that would be an Oda-twist -
Limit of his creativity? Was that before or after he invented the gears?
No, I meant the thing of Storm being the most complex atack of Luffy. Luffy has came up with other atacks like Tako Hanabi or Rifle, but Storm is simply the one where he uses more of his moves at once. Who knows if Oda will feel like making something beyond a Jet Storm…
-
…isn't Storm considered one of Luffy's strongest attacks though?
And also one of the most popular moves with fans?
-
Gomu Gomu no Fireworks was more complicated than Storm. It isn't the limit of his abilities; it's just combining Fuusen with Gatling. I'd at least like to think that by the end of the series, he'll have at least learned how to vulcanize himself.
Oh, and who thinks Brooke will wear the Sogeking mask as a disguise? That way, he can still be a "wanted" criminal while at the same time not freaking people out because he's a skeleton.
And this fight isn't over. The shadows aren't back, Odr isn't purified, and B. Kuma's gonna choke a bitch. Now all we need to show up is Kizaru and his Urine logia.
-
The attacks ranking was that long ago? Wow.
But i can't really see Storm's popularity having changed much since, though.
-
Don
t you think that luffy is ko for now? The 100 Shadows left him and they took much of willpower. Also his eyes were closed a the last panel. I can see the mugiwaras try to escape but are attackt by odz, he use some attack and finaly his arm fall off and the straws vs odz wasn
t usless. Perhaps he falls on moria so hes beaten by his own creature…Best post in the thread. Welcome to the forum.

Indeed it is.
Though, those rankings have to be at least 12-18 months olds now.
I'm a bit confused as to why Sanzen Sekai is so popular considering Zoro has developed many other techniques since then and that he only used it (desperately) against Mihawk. Somehow, though, if maybe he could start evolving it with his more recent trainings and acquisition (his two newer swords, cutting through steel, wind cannons, Ashura), it could be more spectacular. (just like how "Gatling" became stuff like Storm and Jet Gatling)
-
I didn't know Storm had already surpass Gattling in popularity. Las Time I checked Storm wasn't even among the top ten favorite atacks of One Piece (back on the EL Days), wich kinda explained why Jet Gattling was saved as a finisher for Lucci.
-
That poll is from near the end of Enies Lobby.
And I'm pretty sure Storm has been ranked pretty high for quite some time, considering that it was the attack used to finish off Luffy's first really major fight.
-
I see few usefull things in this arc.
Zoro gaining a new sword.
Info about Blackbeard and Kuma.
Possibly Brook joining[hopes he will] -
Are you complaining about this arc? Because less progress than this has happened in various arcs already, but that doesn't mean they aren't fantastic.
This arc has given us a good look into the "outside world" of OP at the moment, and like many other arcs, has enriched our knowledge of the crew, so it's great, of course.
And with the "popular attacks" thing, I dunno if Thunderstorm will really rival Jet Gattling or the original Storm. It was a pretty sudden thing, after all, and Luffy wasn't already losing the fight.
-
Ive thouroghly enjoyed this arc, it's a bit different that the usual, lets move onto this island next and have an adventure, then move onto next said island.
This 'island' just happened to be the pirate ship of a Shichibukai! -
Frankly, I'd be happy enough whether either of them are getting up next chapter or not.
What did occur to me, though, was the idea of further implications of Nightmare Luffy's appearance- if Moria survives (He will, it's One Piece), then I can see the Government recognising the true potential of his ability, and fielding shadow-enhanced warriors in the future. A worrying concept, no? -
@Tokoro:
I'm a bit confused as to why Sanzen Sekai is so popular considering Zoro has developed many other techniques since then and that he only used it (desperately) against Mihawk …it could be more spectacular.
You and me both! Sanzen's always seemed more like a "show" move, not a proper attack: something used in desperation to confuse and intimidate an opponent – something that looks impressive, but that has no real attack power beneath it. And judging by Mihawk's response, that's exactly the purpose it served -- confusion and intimidation -- for exactly one second. But he saw through the move quickly, and then, erm, sawed through it quickly.
I see the move as being equivalent to an oscillating fan: fans are not deadly at all -- even when revolving at the highest speed just a foot or two away from you. They're only deadly when a person's curiosity (or stupidity) gets the best of him and he decides to stick his arm between the spinning blades to see how sharp they are ...
So I think of Sanzen as being closer in spirit to Asura than to the Cannons. For my money, the Cannons are his strongest move. They may not look impressive, but what they lose in looks, they gain in flexibility, adaptability, power, control, etc.
[/Zoro fight geekery]
I think she said 'these guys ARE my type'..well, any guy is her type most likely.
Did she? checks Oh, yeah, you're right, she did! Wow. I wonder if polygamy is legal on the Grand Line? I mean, she's already a married woman (Absalom), and here she is pouncing on Franky, Choppy and the Alphas while they're defenseless and out cold. Has she seen Usopp yet? Maybe he's next!
Best post in the thread. Welcome to the forum.
I think Meh had him beat with the same idea by about 5 seconds, but hey, great minds think alike!
And I do like that idea of the arm falling on Moria and knocking him out.
-
He sawed through his move!
good one^^
-

Wait, so that was actually Thunderstorm and not storm? I tought that Thunderstorm and Hammer were nothing but the translators messing around with the atack names.
-
Oh, that was great! Funny thing, when I was reading the chapter I was listening to online radio and as Luffy threw Odz into Thriller Bark the Zelda victory music started playing.
I don't think Odz/Moria are out for good, the fight was great…but it didn't give the "Soooo looooong!!!~" feel.
-
I see few usefull things in this arc.
Zoro gaining a new sword.
Info about Blackbeard and Kuma.
Possibly Brook joining[hopes he will]Usopp surpasses Sogeking…
Strawhats are still "greenhorned" fighters - they are strong but were fighting wide open for counter attacks -
Uh…
Luffy beating a Shichibukai seems like it just might affect the plot somehow.
-
Moria will get back up, want to keep fighting Luffy, Kuma will stop it, make him give the shadows back and will return to the gorousei, but they won't make it public, thus no increase in bounty excpet maybe chopper. I call it

I don't think Kuma can really force Moria to do anything. Why would he? Kuma has no authority over Moria and for all we know he may be weaker then Moria.
-
he has authority when moria is a complete mess from the fight with luffy. plus i dont think he would really be bossing moria around. just know that he was defeated, and stop him form making a mistake, in his holier-than-thou way.
-
@Mr.:

I wonder if Gin's Promise with Luffy will lead him to become a Schichibukai, but I wouldn't mind if somoene new popped out from nowhere to replace Moria.
-
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:

Gin is most probably dead from the MH5 gas he inhaled…
-
-
i know how the strawhats can make moria return the shadows. just dunk his ass in the ocean and give him some good old fashion water torture until he commands the shadows to return.
-
Hm, I don't know how Oda's gonna end this. Continuing the fight would be overkill since Luffy's knocked out, and the sun's pretty much rising already… But with the sun rising, do they even have any time to think about a solution?
I hope Oda isn't about to come up with a last-minute cop-out breaking his own rules here...Either way, it's gonna be a pain waiting for two weeks to find out what's up.
-
@Seal:
Good riddance too
I didn't write/say that I'd be glad that he's most probably dead. It's just according to the fact that MH5 is a poisonous gas and Gin inhaled it…
-

Moria is not a threat to our freedom.

Please Oda, surprise me!:wub:I wouldn't mind it playing out similarly. I still think there is something left in the fight, but not much. I do hope the "arm" plays some significance soon.
-
The only things good in this Arc to me, was Kuma showing off his powers & giving us very important info about Blackbeard, Zoro & Ryuuma. Odr was lagging, heck the whole SH crew team work. Zoro & Choppers plan's were all useless. All that talk about getting Luffy's shadow back & Plans of "attacking Odr left arm, it will fall off & then his power will be half!" was a waste just to have Luffy come in & save the day.
Edit:This Arc was just stupid when it comes down to characterization.
You my Friend is no One piece fan.
-

didnt the gasmasks contain antidote to MH5? or were Zeff just guessing that it could contain?
-

He can change places his shadow so yea.
-

since when has logic prevented characters from coming back?
Remember Pell?
Btw: I'm pretty sure Hildon was just there to get killed. Oda was like "Fuck! Hildon! Umm… he'll get squashed! Done"
-
He can change places his shadow so yea.
The Rolling Pirates seem adept at binding/capturing shadows, so being able to switch out with Doppleman could become not be as much an advantage as Moria would like.
-
@Seal:
Jesus christ, would the whining about TB just cease and desist already?
In ways, this arc is pretty important. Once again, Moria is NOT Crocodile II. Luffy and co have grown so much since Croc, it wouldn't be a surprise to me that Luffy DID beat Moria and Odz up all in one sitting. But thats just my view on it. Sorry for ranting -_-
So far the entire arc was a waste. The dragged out Odz fights with the SH, Hogback, Moria etc. The only relevant highlights in this arc was Kuma (bringing us info about Blackbeard) and Ryuma (Zoro getting a new sword). Everything else that happened in TB seems like a waste.
Now Moria (a SHICHIBUKAI) got his *** kicked while sitting inside of Odz? That's crap, So your telling me Moria got a Shichibukai title and a 320 million dollar bounty for sitting in Giants stomach's his whole career? Having no battle-power of his own? Let's not mention the fact how Nightmare Luffy just WTF pwned Odz and boom there you have it..What seems like the end of TB. Hell it was a waste for the SH to even try to beat Odz for freakin umpteen chapters. In the end it was only a STALL for Luffy to come with a power-up to save the day.
I am not whining about anything, I am being what I love to be…A fan and this is what I call Bad writing.
-
bounty = threat to government
just a reminder.
i guess BB should be a pushover since he has no bounty? -
I know bounty just doesn't define power but the bounty has something to do with an individual's power. Let's not fool ourselves.

Brook's a waste :(
-
Again:
Luffy beat a Shichibukai. And the arc was fun to read and isn't really long

Somebody is takeing this wayyyy to seriously…to much time?
I'm not gonna say this is the best arc ever...it has its ups and downs, but it isn't pointless =P Not every arc has to be enis lobby
-
Dunno if someone has pointed this out already.
But it seems that Gum Gum no Storm has become an officlal move to be used as a finishing move againts Shichibukai ^^. -
I know bounty just doesn't define power but the bounty has something to do with an individual's power. Let's not fool ourselves.
well if thats the case i guess bb is a huge pushover.
im pretty sure moria got his bounty just because of all his 900+ men/thriller bark.

So, Brooks a waste, his connection to Laboon is a waste, Usopps char. development(Perona) was a waste, new combo moves were a waste, Sanjis and Coppers development - theire dreams/idols being crushed was a waste, the whole humor in TB(Frankys bridge building skill etc) was a waste ?

As stated before, bounty |= fighting power, in Morias case, his devil fruit is very dangerous, he can beat anyone in theory, there aren't many chars. in OP who can beat anyone.
NL was a beast, before you said the fight was dragged and now you say it ended to quick, make up you mind boy. Who says the fight is over ? Oda will decide this not AP or you. It wasn't a stall, they did sever damage, but Odz doesn't feel pain, Brook went through him, Sanji could deflect his kick, Usopp actually got salt in his mouth. How much can you ask from them, most of them had a fight before that.
-
I don't think there's much you can expect from Moria when faced with a Super Saiyan Luffy. As a price, Luffy is out of the picture, but Odz can still get up, being a zombie and all. I think the crew needs to come in now. There IS still the deal about Kuma.
-
Great ending!
Moria cannot beat Luffy on his own. His ultimate powerup and trump card was using Odz plus his own power. Simply, NL leveled the playing field. Game over. I can't wait to see this animated.
