Sounds kinda nice. Just seeing what's on, maybe giving one of the bad ones a chance because hey it's already rolling. Too bad the Lupin one doesn't work in my region

Lupin Zero was amazing — definitely a must watch!
-
It's crazy that, thanks to the various crossover films they've done, Lupin, Cat's Eye, Detective Conan and City Hunter are technically all part of the same shared universe.
Don't think they'll ever shove all four into one movie though, would be a bit crowded. -
Discotek announced a couple Lupin Specials blu ray releases today with the releases of Lupin the Third: Swallowtail Tattoo and Lupin the Third: Angel Tactics.
-
Swallowtail confused me because I thought it was a new one, but no it's just another renaming.
Was one of the more de ent specials though.

And Hamtaro.
-
Every day i curse the fact that Golgo 13 wasn't popular enough to get the whole manga translated. But i would take a Lupin/Duke crossover anyday
-
I started looking around my streaming services for some Lupin stuff I haven't seen, and was surprised to see that Amazon video already has Lupin v. The Cat's Eye subbed and dubbed.
I thought it was pretty good. I was a bit put off the by the original trailers, maybe because everyone is just a little to pretty, but it's a solid adventure, although I am getting a little tired of every movie being "Lupin teams up with cute girls in a quest to find treasure that the Nazi's coveted".Also, I have to hand it to Tony Oliver for having some of the better range in this than I've seen in the past. Sometimes he gets a bit lazy with the same tonal patterns, but he pulled off some serious moments really well. Still annoys me that he says "Goy-ya-mon" though.

To be fair you would never get the whole series translated either way considering some “poorly aged” elements from the original manga.

Can’t all be Angel Tactics.

Why must you stomp on a mans dreams like this. If i wasn't so lazy i'd consider learning the language just to read up

You’re too good for this harsh cruel world.
And besides Robby can’t be the only one to do it

Well, I watched Lupin 0 on Hidive. I actually really liked it. It has a lot of part 1 vibes in the asthetics, but it plays out a lot differently from most Lupin stuff since it lacks the typical tropes that Fujiko, Zenigata and Goemon bring.
Just a fun story about Lupin figuring out who he is and forming a bond with Jigen. -
I finally got a chance to watch Dead or Alive on bluray. I really enjoyed the movie. I really like the animation for the movie, especially during the climax of the final battle between Lupin and Headhunter. I thought the main plot with the Nanobots stuff was really interesting. The movie is a bit slow at a couple, but when things starts pick up in the movie, it gets really good.
-
Woo, this finally arrived!
I'd actually forgotten that I even ordered it, it was months ago. Thanks for the present, past me! I haven't read it yet but it looks pretty comprehensive. tons and tons of drawings and model sheets, and a full episode and movie guide! (For all seven series!) And a 10 page section for Cagliostro. its very nice.
I wanted to buy the limited run deluxe version, but that was only available through their website, and after shipping and customs it would have tripled the price for a slip cover and a bookmark and I just couldn't justify it, so I ordered the basic one through a bookstore instead.

Good ol, totally not offensive, mr X.
Looks like a great book to shuffle through. Is there any notes about the films? Or quotes from directors or the writers?

It talks about all the movies and tv specials/ Theatrical outing get two pages, tv specials get 1/2 a page, single episodes get 1/4 a page. It provides historical context along the way. "These two Miyazaki epsodes of red jacket were released as a standalone set..." "For the 40th anniversary they did this..." "this series actually released in Italy before Japan" and such.
But its definitely an English made fan guide, no interviews or behind the scenes really that you or I don't already know, mostly just "here is this episode and a brief summary of what happens in it." with some commentary on certain special releases.
Its basically a very nice very deluxe wiki page in book form. But the pictures are solid and the layout/format is good and it kind of makes me want to revisit the whole lot.

Tubi added a lot of the Lupin Specials today. Some of the specials are dubbed and some are subbed. Here what been added.

Lupin the Third: Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure (Subbed)
Lupin the Third: Episode 0: First Contact (Subbed)
Lupin the Third: The Elusiveness of the Fog (Subbed)
Lupin the Third: Red Vs. Green (Subbed)
Lupin the Third; The Italian Game (Subbed)

Lupin the Third: Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid (Dubbed)
Lupin the Third: The Prison of the Past (Dubbed)I have to say, I can't believe how big Tubi's collection of Lupin Specials and movies are getting.
-
Just when I was about to watch The Prison of the Past. Tubi took down all the new Lupin specials that they added expect for Missed by a Dollar.
-
Tubi have put back up all the specials they recently took down expect for Missed by a Dollar.
-
Right after I posted my previous post, Missed by a Dollar was put back up on Tubi. Also Tubi added even more Lupin Specials. Here what they just added today besides Tubi putting back up Missed by a Dollar.
Lupin the Third: The Hemingway Papers (Subbed)
Lupin the Third: The Secret of Twlilight Gemini (Dubbed and Subbed)
Lupin the Third: Alcatraz Connection (Subbed)
Lupin the Third: Operation Return the Treasure (subbed)If included the previous batches of movies and specials, Tubi now got 21 Lupin movies. I have to say that pretty great to see most of the Lupin movies and tv specials are available to stream on Tubi.

Anyone have two hours to listen to someone (that isn't me) ramble about how good Cagliostro is?
I've watched most of this persons videos about a year ago, forgot they existed, and then they dropped this monster.
-
Definitely gotta rewatch Cagliostro some time now that I'm a lot more well-versed in Lupin.
-
And just like that, it's gone.
-
It literally went down WHILE I was watching it. I didn't even know that was possiible.
They had a lot of random clips from a lot of random stuff in there, so they'll probably do a quick edit or two and it'll be back up soon.
-
More Lupin stuff got added to Tubi.
Lupin the Third: Mystery of Mamo (Dub and Sub)
Lupin the Third: Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure (Dub)
Lupin the Third: Missed by a Dollar (Sub)
Lupin the Third: Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid (Sub)
Lupin the Third: Goodbye Partner (Dub and Sub)I finally watch Dragon of Doom the other day on Tubi. I thought the special was just okay, nothing really special about it.
-
Let's try this again!
2 hour video if you've got the time or need something in the background. Super well researched and pulls out details I didn't even know.
I think I need to hunt down 1954's The King and the Mockingbird.
-
I watched Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure a few days ago. I really enjoyed it The special was everything that I expected from Lupin special. Zenigata had some really funny moments in the special. Archer was a great side character in the special, his sacrifice at the end of the special to stop Russel from the getting the treasure was really sad.

Jigen is getting a live action movie? In October?
https://www.siliconera.com/jigen-daisuke-live-action-movie-appears-worldwide-in-october/ -
@Robby Okay that's a new cinematic universe I can support.
-
I recently got Lupin the Third: Farewell to Nostradamus bluray. I thought the movie was really great. I really like the animation throughout the movie. Julia's running gag with Lupin made me laugh, especially when she and Zenigata were stuck in the suitcase together. The VR scene during the climax in the movie was also really cool.

Lupin is confirmed to make an appearance in the new City Hunter movie (which Cat's Eye also confirmed to be in it as well.).
-
TMS put up the english dub of Lupin the Third: Episode 0: First Contact on their youtube channel.
-
On October 6th, TMS will be putting up Jigen's Gravestone on youtube for free to stream.
-
Just finished watching Jigen's Gravestone. Really great movie. One thing for sure, I didn't expect that Fujiko vs. giant robot segment. But seriously, I really enjoyed Jigen's Gravestone.
-
Even the manga, as insane and rapey as it is, has nothing on the inflatable gimp robot. Such a massive WTF scene in an otherwise good film
-
I first saw this AMV probably 24 or 25 years ago at anime club back when we had those, and it was great then, and maybe its just raw nostalgia, but I think it's still great now.
Someone went to the trouble of remastering it, and while it's off by a frame or two, it's 99.9% the same and much higher quality, so here it is.
-
Yeah pretty much. I've ocassionally thought about doing a Lupin rewatch since I first started literally decades ago, and even though I've seen 99% of it, (still haven't watched the movies from the Fujiko tv series team, because I hated that series but that set of movies seems well liked so I'll get to it someday) and no longer really remember a lot of the stuff I saw in the early 2000's aside from notes I scribbled to keep the tv specials straight, but as much as I love it there's a lot of mediocre or outright bad stuff in there.
And it's also very very VERY repetitive. If you've seen ten of the movies and thirty episodes, you've kind of seen them all. Maybe not the best ones, but you've basically gotten what it has to offer.
I mean obviously if I got to a bad episode or movie and went "oh yeah, this episode is terrible" I could probably just skip ahead, but its been long enough I wouldn't really remember WHY it was terrible and would already be mid-watch and so would probably want to finish... because who knows how my opinion differs from me of 25 years ago. And on the other end of the spectrum, there's some that I remember fondly that might not hold up at all now that I've seen so much. Like I fondly remember Napoleon's Dictionary for breaking formula and being a character piece but its at the bottom of most people's lists. So did I just like it because it was one of the first few I saw?
Like I could skip the non-Miyazaki episodes of Green Jacket... but episode 4 (the one where Pops actualyl catches Lupin and he spend s a year in jail) is probably my single most rewatched anything in the franchise aside from Cagliostro. I can probably appreciate pink jacket era more now, but I've never been able to deal with the offputting designs.
-
I mean not surprising even the anime and I’d almost bet some of the manga material had some mediocre and full on awful stuff therein.
For as much as red jacket is considered quintessential most of it isn’t terribly good especially some of the Miyazaki directed/drawn episodes.
-
For me, Lupin the 3rd (The films at least) falls into the same sort of category as the Bond franchise.
They might be incredibly formulaic and repetitive, and some are a bit naff, but I find them entertaining enough to re-watch most of them pretty much endlessly. The series are a different kettle of fish though, outside of maybe Parts 4 and 5 I don't see myself ever re-watching them, there's just too much and I'm not one of those people who can cherry-pick their favourite episodes.
I still need to watch my Pink Jacket set though. -
Still very slowly making my way through Part 2 (up to episode 109 now), and yeah, mostly it's just okay. The characters do kind of hold it all together, but it's all just kind of samey and not especially exciting to me. There aren't many (if any) that I consider to be great standout episodes, but then I don't think there are many I consider to be outright terrible either, at least in comparison to the rest of the series.
But I am a completionist, so I definitely want to see this through, and I definitely want to get to the Miyazaki episodes (whether they're good or not), which, of course, are towards the very end of the show.
Thus far, Castle of Cagliostro and Part V are still the high points of my Lupin experience.
-
I just realized I actually haven't seen series 6 at all. I was waiting for it to be dubbed, since I really like that dub group for it, and then I guess I wasn't paying attention when it was. Whelp. Drop my 99% down to like 97% I guess.
Lupin's been on my mind lately it seems, means I'm probably in the mood for it. Maybe I'll finally do the wrap up and watch those last 3 or 4 movies I'm missing and finally get to 100% soon.
-
Funny thing, I got Part 6 on bluray for Christmas. Even though I already seen Part 6 when it aired on Adult Swim, I'm still enjoying it with my current rewatch. For my watch through of Part 2, I'm currently up to episode 70.
-
Yeah, I go through Lupin moods. Suddenly I really want to watch Lupin and I'll watch a bunch of a stuff for a few months, then take a break again.
It doesn't seem like there is anything currently in the works, unless I'm mistaken, the last animation that was made was the young Lupin and Jigen series.
-
That's pretty much me with Lupin. I get into a Lupin mood then a break. I mean, I still got a good chunk of Part 2 still to watch. But I don't mind taking my time on it that goes with the tv special as well. I mean still haven't watched everything that Tubi added last summer still.
-
When a franchise has this many entries and no ongoing story, its more a marathon than a sprint.
-
I’ve always wanted to get into Lupin but the fact that it is so episodic makes it daunting. It looks really cool regardless of decade (and people who know my favourite strawhat is Nami always bring up Fujiko…)

You really can just start anywhere and be fine, don't worry about seeing everything.
Start with one or two of the reccomended movies and you're good to go.

Castle of Cagliostro- This is the Miyazaki movie. It's actually NOT a good first impression, because it's Lupin through the Miyazaki lens and he's pretty different than he is in any of the other outings, and half of the cast doesn't get much to do so they don't leave much impression.
But it's my favorite movie, period. Not just Lupin, not just animated, favorite movie. I have bought like 9 different copies of this thing over the years between the tapes, dvds, blu ray, sub, dub, old dub, gifts... I have seen it in theaters and have no idea how many total times I've seen it. Make it the second or third Lupin thing you watch, it left a huge impact on the franchise and almost everything since has borrowed from it.
Fuma Conspiracy-Great romp, ninjas, best car chase sequence in the franchise
Episode 0: The first Contact -An origin movie, the first meeting of all the mains. Great origin movie, though maybe not THE origin as there have been many different versions over the years, but its probably the best version. Great character moments, great modern animation, great highlight reel of earlier bits, and an amazing brick joke. If you see this one and don't like it, Lupin is probably not for you.
Those are the 3 that would be at the top of my list to start with, they're very strong outings. There's also
Bye Bye Liberty Crisis- the first of the tv movies. A decent romp, every character gets to do a little something. Does everything right, hits all the proper notes. Couple fun scenes, and a decent start to the annual tv specials... though time has made a real fool of the 1989 computer tech and there's a slightly annoying little kid.
Walther p-38/Island of Assassins- stylish and cool looking and Cowboy Bebop-esque, not the greatest plot
Princess of the Breeze-overall solid outing
Alcatraz Connection-really solid but slightly rushed ending
Tokyo Crisis- The first Lupin movie I ever saw, possibly the first Lupin period, so it gets bonus points. But it holds up pretty well as a solid entry. Great Zenigata film.
Voyage to Danger-super dramatic, great once, not so great a second time. Still really good the first time though. You can also just randomly try the red jacket series 2 dub but the 70's animation is a little rough for some to get into... or start from the more modern blue jacket, series 4, or 5. Those have a little bit more episode to episode continuity to them and tell a bigger story... but they also add extra lead characters that aren't in any other part of the franchise so if you got attached to the new characters well... they'r not anywhere else..
