^People pronounce Luffy's name wrong? All I've heard are "Luffy and Ruffy".
Enel info
His name could very well be a nod by the mangaka to ancient Mesopotamian Gods, such as En-lil. It is quite possible that his name is a pun on the word "energy" and therefore transliterate it as "Eneru" or "Ener", or "Enel" (the name used in the video games and various Japanese media, including merchandise and Shonen Jump covers), mainly due to the fickleness of transliteration of Katakana. Enel is also the name of the utility responsible for generation of electrical power in Italy (although this might not be intentional). In the English Dub, his name was transliterated as Eneru. Also, his powers and the drums attached to his back match those of the storm god of Japan, Raijin, so the idea of this character might originate from this god. Additionally, one of his poses (reclining on his side) and his elongated earlobes are reminiscent of statues of Buddha. His golden staff and a floating thunder cloud he sometimes sits on could be nods to Sun Wukong (Son Goku), the Monkey King/God from Journey to the West.
And weren't Kappa's a bit of an influence in the TMNT character designs? So technically "Mistic Ninjas" could have Kappas as pets.
