Yeah, it seemed a bit boring towards the beginning but the new chapter its started to grow on me with Luffy, Franky and Zoro turning emo for a time and the new Straw Hat attack 'Jack pot' wasn't it? Just hoping for all the straw hats to get an attack together now.
How do you feel about the current arc?
-
-
For the moment it has been fun though a little slow. I have to say it's the first time I follow the manga "live" during a transition arc since I started reading OP on a weekly basis during the sea train arc, so that's probably why I've been a bit bored at time.
I think this is my problem. I haven't had access to the manga at a weekly basis so it seemed slow and a little boring. But its starting to pick up.
-
Well, this arc doesn't suck. That's for sure. I'm sure Thriller Park isn't going to be ZOMGWTF arc, but I really like this. Emo-Zoro was cute in the newest chap, but Nami has been irritating o_O I really don't care about that what they do to her anyway. But hell, I really like this arc. The backgrounds, characters and everything has been awesome up to this point. But it has to be remembered that arc hasn't really started yet. All the action is just starting <3
-
I'm liking this arc quite a bit. My only gripes with it so far are the fact that Hogback looks like he's a runaway from the Franky Family and Brook's personality is a Sanji rehash. Don't want him in the crew for now.
-
It has a lot of potential.
-
This is gonna end up being the new Baratie, I tell ya.
-
I was just telling my friend One Piece has been in that state where it's leading up to something big, and with the introduction of Moria, the peak of the arc is coming, so it won't be long till we get some action. I've enjoyed the humor of it so far, I mean common who doesn't love Oda's take on zombies. I think its overall good cause we're just coming out of Water 7 and Eneis lobby where the crew was in shambles, now the crew is stronger than ever, and this is a good way to get our bearings with this calm state the crew is in.
-
I just want more Brooke action, damnit!!
-
@Monkey:
and Brook's personality is a Sanji rehash.
How is he a Sanji rehash? Sanji fawns over females while Brook straight out asks them if he can see their panties. Brook also has a pretty pathetic sense of humour and an overly cheery personality, not to mention he behaves like a swine despite pretending to be a gentleman. Nothing like Sanji at all.
-
Most people said that the last chapter made this arc interesting with the introduction of a Shichibukai. I personally think that kinda made me less excited, because I was expecting a wacky, horror movie/Scooby-Doo style excursion, and now that the world powers (which I've never been a fan of, I like the crew's adventures far more) are involved, this arc seems like it might be another Enies Lobby as opposed to another Skypiea (And yes, I liked Skypiea. Maybe even more than Alabasta.) We just got done with an epic raid on the WG, I'd prefer a less epic arc to take a breather before taking on another Shichibukai.
Of course, it might be a little too early to tell, since we don't know much about Moria, but judging from his bounty, he's going to be one hell of an opponent.
As for the fanservice thing, I really dislike it. Nami is one of my favorite characters, and having her being molested every arc now is getting annoying. It's not as bad as Usopp's humiliation last arc, but in both cases, I don't like what Oda's doing with my favorite characters.
But overall this arc has so far been great, full of humor and great atmosphere with the whole haunted theme.
-
I can see it now: Moria about to make the final blow and slay Luffy, the rest of the crew bloodied and un-able to save Luffy. Moria raises his insert weapon when all of the sudden:
Brook: Yomi Yomi no….Bazooooka!
Blam, Moria dies. -
Just think about it, how many arc starts have been super exciting?
Every single one of them.
It's the action that slows things down more than the startups. My excitement levels are over 0009 when comparing to the action scenes, which conversely is definitely not to say action can't be exciting (I liked Monster Chopper quite a bit).
Sort of OT:
I prefer to see things animated, but with how the anime is taking things…..I just really hope they go back to being good like at Water 7. Anyway, I'm sure if I hadn't read anything, the anime during this arc would be certainly enjoyable.
Certainly some great ideas/comedy laid out on paper here. -

I agree that I like that pattern Oda has had with the big epic battle, then the more adventurous arcs, its really hard to tell where this arc will fit in. At the moment it seems like its inbetween the two arc types, and I would guess the merman island will fit more in with adventurous than epic. Actually with Brooke thrown into the mix this makes for the classic arcs back when Luffy was getting his crew together. A possible Nakama is introduced: Brooke, there is something preventing him from joining the crew: Moria, and its up to Luffy to solve that.
-
i agree with what he said
-
I have no idea on how anyone could see this as predictable unless they can see the future.

There's always somebody on this forum who finds 'the current arc totally predictable and/or boring'. Nobody is happy with anything anymore.
Granted, a good portion of manga is utterly cliche [Bleach], but when you finally find well-written series [One Piece, Death Note], people still ain't satisfied.
-
I love this new arc! I've been a tad frustrated with how slow it's gone, but that's forgiveable. My anticipation for "what will happen next?" has been growing since chapter 442. The Straw Hats get to have a good old fashioned adventure and not get tied down with an uber-long mega plot like W7/EL. That's how it seems so far anyway.
It's nice to see how Franky interacts with the crew and what Thousand Sunny can do. We'll get to see another Shichibukai and maybe they'll get a new nakama. You guys can put me in the pro-Brook crowd! He's only appeared in two chapters so it's too early to judge whether he'll join or not. I want him too!
We've had the build-up with the first 7 chapters of this arc, so maybe we can start to see some real action and plot development now! -
I think part of the weirdness of this ark for me is the fact that Im totally caught up now. I just got into OP back at the end of summer so I was able to watch a lot of it without having to wait one week, now because I have to wait the arc seems to be going by slow.
-
It's like reading a mystery book, but you can only read one chapter a week or a man comes into your house and beats you with a sock full of quarters.
-
I'm enjoying this arc quite a bit. For some reason though I think Moria's fight with whoever should be a funny one. Considering for most of this arc I have been laughig at alot of the pages. Even though I highly doubt it considering how this last chapter ended. sigh The horror mansion stuff is very interesting though, and I kind of want Brooke to join up with the StrawHats at the end of all of this. The character designs are good too. Many of them make me laugh as well. All in all I want this arc to remain a funny/nonserious one and still throw in some of the story plot and drama.
-
Every arc has a mix of funny and serious, this arc has no exception.
-
Another thing I like about this arc is that Oda is deciding to show how much of a threat bounty hunters are to the Strawhat crew. We really haven't seen bounty hunters in One Piece since Whiskey Peak, so it's nice to see that there are people other than Marines, World Government, or the Shichibukai that the crew has to worry about.
-
i've been fairly disinterested in the arc (been mostly reading the spoiler threads to keep up to date) until this last chapter with the mention of a shichibukai. will probably actually read the rest of this arc and not just look at the spoiler threads.
-
@White:
i agree with what he said
You know we don't allow multiple accounts?
-
I've really been enjoying this arc. As someone else pointed out earlier, the arc has a Scooby Doo feel to it. Since I was a huge fan of Scooby Doo as a kid, I fell madly in love with the arc.
Now Robin just needs to say 'Jinkies' and pull off Dr. Hogback's mask while the true villian exclaims that he would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those pesky pirates and their talking gorilla.
-
It's getting better and better…
Plus, it's the first real arc that I've started, when I started this series it was in the Water 7 arc, and in the manga Robin was in the middle of her flashback.
-
It's really boring.
-
Giant Clown From Hell who commands an invisible lionman, a goth chick that commands emotion changing ghosts; a mad dr., vampiric butler, three headed dog(s?), human faced lions and trees; zombies, guys with big wounds, taxadermy pig who is the boss of hall zombies; and a violin playing afro-skeleton that could be the next crewmember….
gets on knees and bows to a shrine to Oda I am not worthy, I am not worthy!!!
-

I discussed this topic at length in this thread. Don't want to post it all over again.

You linked to a picture of a pomegranate. XD The way you link to a post in another thread is to find the little number at the top right of a the post, right-click, and choose "copy link location". Or for the whole thread, just click on the thread and then copy the address on the address toolbar at the top.

Oh, wow, sorry, I was posting in another forum at the same time. xD
trying to fix it

I discussed this topic at length in this thread.
Everything has become so clear to me now. (WHY?! Of all links!)
… Jokes aside, this arc has been nothing but predictable, until the anouncement of a Shichibukai on the island. The predictable sides has been the fact that there's been a mansion, zombies, a lot of running around by Usopp, Nami and Chopper, a fat Doctor Hogback (serious, I totally saw that coming), and more...
I was starting to lose faith in Oda, and his plans for this arc, but something told me he would link it with the next arc and the main stroyline. Now that Moria has been announced, this links a great deal with the WG, so I'm pleased Oda has shocked us. From now, I'm expecting a more unpredictable arc.
-
lol
I was posting in the Granado Espada forum because someone didn't know what the name of the game means, and well, "granado" is "pommegranate tree" in Spanish. I'd copied the link and I think I accidentally hit "paste" instead of "copy" when I was linking to the "All-Inclusive Things about Brook".
Wow, I can't believe this happened. I've changed it but I'm still not sattisfied, I've linked to my first post but the reactions and answers are also worth reading. Could I link to the relevant page on the thread and do it so that it starts on my post?

Don't worry about it. It's fixed.
I disagree with what you've said. Here's how I think of it (it's a simple thought…)
Brooke plays music that Luffy likes; Luffy has asked Brooke to join his crew, and Luffy always gets someone to join his crew once asked. Also... we don't really know enough about Brooke.
-
Brooke will reveal to be a hardcore metalhead, and will only play covers of Megadeth songs. He'll also headbang and knives will fly from his afro.
Thats how he fights. He rocks out and knives fly everywhere. -
I certainly hope not. Besides, Brook plays ONLY soul.
-
I haven't enjoyed this arc. :/
Yes there's some funny parts, but then right after those are some descriminations against nami, which is a big low for me, just cause I like to see important women characters.
I can't wait for this arc to end.
-
I've enjoyed this arc alot. Brooke being a main reason. I'd love for him to join. I was at a low when this arc began because of certain life issues. But all the jokes and shichibukai talk brought me up again.
-
Yeah seeing Luffy and the guys do some smashing, as well as the introduction of a new Shichibukai, brought me back to loving one piece.
-
I think this arc's been kicking ass. It's been very strange, it got kicked off by introducing an oddball like Brooke as a possible new crew member. Now with this new lore about shadows and their importance, as well as Gecko being introduced, muy interesado. Hopefully it ends well, because the monsters/zombies on the island have been kinda boring.
-

so after thiller bark was introduced to have a horror theme a mansion and zombies and running around by nami usopp and chooper is predictable….. its called common sense lose faith in oda because of this you aren't much of a fan and maybe you shouldn't b e reading OP maybe naruto.....

Oh of course. I'm going to stop reading OP now because the great MonkeyDMalcolm said so.
Or not.
Just because I critisize one of the arcs doesn't give you the right to tell me what to do, and really, you shouldn't get offended because you love OP so much.
It was predictable… and not ALL horror genres have a mansion and zombies (since that's obviously what you believe). I predicted that to be the theme, but not the only theme... I thought Oda would throw in something completely out of the blue... like something I have never seen before... but he didn't.
However, I did say that Oda has suprised me now, as he has thrown in a Shichibukai.
How is it common sense to add zombies and a mansion in a horror genre?... I would call it simple. And don't judge how much of a fan I am... I don't expect you to be concerned.
-
So far only awesome chapters.

So you hate this arc because of two Nami fanservice incidents? Are you even paying attention to the story? Sorry, but that's really lame and petty. Try to give the plot of this arc a chance instead of hating it over fanservice. Seriously. Except for Nami with the zombies and Nami in the shower with Absalom, there hasn't been that much fanservice.
I highly recommend you check out the spoiler and re-read the past chapters to get the hint that there's more than Nami fanservice to this arc. >_> -
Absolutely loving it. The wacky adventures are the reason I love One Piece, and this one's already had an incredibly awesome and hilarious start.
-
Actually, I guess this arc became really boring when Brooks gone and Oda concentrated the plot in Nami, Usopp and Chopper. Fortunately, Moria has come, as well as the full introduction of Absalom and Verona.
-
Sans Nami rape it's been great.
-
I love it in a possibly sexual way.
-
If you didn't love Brook, you just don't love One Piece.
-

You can't say that a person doesn't like a manga just because he or she doesn't like a certain character.
