Buggy is just a pain in the ass, I can't understan that such a jerk would have make it in Rogers crew, thats awful enough.
Chapter 434 "White Beard and Red Hair" Discussion

-
Does this chapter let anyone think that Buggy might be stronger than he lets on? I mean for someone who was a apprentice to the world's greatest pirate and for someone who has connections to 2 of the Yonkou (I mean he knows them personally at least), he's awfully "weak," isn't he?
The problem with Buggy is that he doesn't have the "willpower" and purity of heart to become stronger. He'll never become strong because his spirit is weak. (< Oda's answer, probably.) :ninja:
Oh and by the way, he wasn't an "apprentice", he was just a cabin boy according to Whitebeard.
-
This was an excellent chapter. And I must say that Whitebeard's ship is the coolest thing ever. I'm very happy that Blackbeard's really strong; I can't wait to see how he fights.

The purity of heart maybe, but Buggy actually mentioned in Loguetown that he wanted to go back to Grand Line and that he missed it. I think Buggy's just plain stupid, but there's something really odd about someone being weak when he's looking forward to going back to Grand Line, a place that nearly everyone in the OP world including Jin (who was ridiculously strong) consider to be the most dangerous place ever.
This should be something that Oda should explain, I mean with Buggy meeting Ace, one of Whitebeard's trusted men and Whitebeard himself mentioned the funny red-nose kid, there has to be something that Oda is planning with him.
-
He's just worried about Ace's saftey? It seemed like it went beyond that. :/ I'm not saying that Ace's life is a small matter, it just seems wierd that he would go to war with Whitebeard over that.
I got that impression too. I think perhaps Shanks is afraid that if Ace fails his mission, Luffy and Whitebeard will both try to get vengeance, and end up fighting each other. Maybe his real concern is the effects that Ace's defeat would have on those two…

Me, obviously. -

I don´t believe that Blackbeard is going to search for Luffy after Ace have lost the fight (and/or his life).
The reason is simple, Blackbeard wants a person with an important bounty for become a Shichibukai and the only one that he has found in all this time is a Strawhat boy with 100 milion bounty, he doesn´t know that Ace is following him.
But now he has Ace in front of his eyes, Ace is better than Luffy for get the promotion to Shichibukai:
-He has a bounty more higher than Luffy.
-He is the captain of the second division of Whitebeard pirates. After Ace defeat I am sure that we are going to see Teach being promoted as the new Shichibukai and the Strawhats getting a new group of enemies in another part of the world.
-
Because he knows Ace will be beaten, and that will give Blackbeard the Shichibukai spot he's been going after for a while. Shanks probably thinks Blackbeard becoming a Shichibukai is the first step of his rise to power.
And it makes sense; if he stayed a regular pirate I doubt Blackbeard would ever pose a threat to Whitebeard, as he'd have to fight Shichibukais and Marine HQ. If he becomes a Shichibukai, he's safe against 2 Great Powers and can focus on taking Whitebeard's spot.
Sorry, I posted over you somehow.
I guess that makes more sense. Being able to take out one of Whitebeard's elite would look good in the appealing to the government.I don't think a really conclusive victory is going to come out from the Ace/Blackbeard confrontation, it seems too soon for that.
But maybe it will…Ace's defeat would be a nice set up for a Luffy/Blackbeard fight. -

But now that Luffy is responsible for the "complete defeat" of Enies Lobby, CP9, and a Buster Call, he could have a bigger bounty than Ace, and will surely have more fame as well. The whole world is going to know Luffy now, and Luffy was already invited to become a Shichibukai by Garp, who revealed that he's the son of Dragon, the most dangerous man in the world!! His bounty could potentially double or triple if the government finally realizes that he's going to become the Pirate King.
If Blackbeard wanted to become famous… he should aim for Luffy, which he is.

In regards to Buggy, I repost my big thing concerning his possible power from the spoiler thread on the Chapter:
I have no doubt that Buggy has something going for him. He seems ok with being in the Grand Line, to the point that he actually was nostaligic for it (though now I wonder if he had been there with his current crew before, or just with Roger's crew). But the fact of the matter is that there is a ridiculous gulf between Shanks and Buggy, at least in terms of achievements.
Shanks is one of the Yonkou. He's a famous and feared pirate. Robin expressed amazement that Luffy had past connections to Shanks. He's considered a major threat by the WG, to the point that he needs to be checked by the Shichibukai and Marines, along with the other 3 Yonkou.
Look at Buggy. A 15 Mil. Bounty in East Blue, the weakest of the four Blues according to Mihawk. Now, I don't doubt that Buggy could probably deal with the other three major antagonists of the East Blue saga, if he can survive the Grand Line. And bounties might be fairly relative, considering that another member of an infamous crew, Arlong, was a threat to conquer all of East Blue, and yet warranted 'only' a 20 Mil bounty. Still, compared to one of his former crewmates, as well as a pedigree of being crew to THE PIRATE KING, you'd think he'd have achieved more. It's not for lack of ambition, since he seems to have plenty of that. And his DF power certainly makes him a threat under normal circumstances. Still, if he was as ridiculously powerful to the point that he could be a threat to Luffy, post-Gears, after all that he's learned and gone through, you have to wonder. Remember, Buggy had to have been active for a long time, if he went his own way since Roger's execution 20 years ago. He's got to be fairly old at this point. If he hasn't reached some kind of high potential at this point, like Whitebeard and Shanks, then either he never had that kind of potential, or he wasted it and is likely never going to reach that potential at this stage in his life.
Remember this. Luffy is pretty damn exceptional. He's a rookie pirate by all means, but he's managed to make 100 million, and likely is going to be worth even more come the next bounty. Reflect on the fact that Bellamy, another member of a former Shichibukai's crew, was a 'Super Rookie' at 55 mil. He more than likely was seen as ridiculously exceptional too before his meeting with Luffy. Yet despite his experience both as a member of Doflamingo's crew, as well as a 'Super Rookie' captain himself, he was dismissed by Luffy with one punch. Not to mention that he was 'trained' by Garp. A man who is famous for his encounter with Roger (though it's questionable if he actually captured Roger or not).
Yes, I realize that bounties aren't the sole arbitrators of strength. But they are a fairly good indicator, barring incidents like Ohara (in regards to Robin's bounty). But look at it this way. Luffy's risen up to a level where the WG government views him and a ragtag crew of 7 total as a massive threat, all within what can't be more than a year or two since starting his life as a pirate. Buggy, meanwhile, has to have been active for 20 years at the LEAST. And yet, what has he managed but a 15 Mil. bounty in the weakest Blue.
Buggy may have more strength than he's had a chance to show. But with all factors considered, he can't have that much more room for growth, and if he had more power, you'd think he'd have done more than putter about causing mischief and mayhem in East Blue. He doesn't have the age or luxury of ridiculous training like Luffy, Meppo, and Koby have had. He doesn't seem to be regard as much of a threat by Marines, forget on the level of Luffy or former crewmate Shanks. All this considered, I can't see him as being comparable to Luffy in any way as he is right now.
-
Luffy is one of millions of pirates trying to conquer the Grandline. Best to get someone already big is you can.
-
But now that Luffy is responsible for the "complete defeat" of Enies Lobby, CP9, and a Buster Call, he could have a bigger bounty than Ace, and will surely have more fame as well.
In the ranking of the World Government a liutenant of the most powerful pirate in the world is heavier than take down Luffy and his crew.
Blackbeard ultimate objective is revenge against Whitebeard, Shanks has give the advice to Whitebeard (he can become your worst enemy) this is why I don´t see the posibility of Blackbeard vs Luffy for now.
-
Luffy was already invited to become a Shichibukai by Garp
you read too much fake spoilers
Something is bothering me. Shanks' intentions are still unclear. I don't think he is doing that to protect Ace. It seems he wants to let Black beard run free for a while for whatever reason.
PS my english kinda suck so bear with me
-
-
I'm not saying they're going to fight soon, I'm just saying that he is correct to chase Luffy, since Luffy is a rising star in the world. And I could swear I read that he was offered the Shichibukai position…. damnit, where did I get that idea... Maybe I'm confused with what someone told me. I'm an idiot, haha.
-
Man, Whitebeard's size keeps changing.
Art error or hint that he can change size :P
art error, the only art errors in a flawless chapter :o(
-
I'd say Whitebeard is about 20 feet tall. Shanks comes to just above his knee, meaning Shanks is about 6 feet tall.
-
@Fire Fist:

Wow, Shanks is quite tall.
-
Great chapter. So many characters we haven't seen in a while…
It's good to see Yasopp again! That hair is pretty slick.
I'm anticipating what will happen next...:ninja:
-
Didn't Yassop's hair used to be blondish? Could've sworn it was.
Anyways, we both have dreads so that means Yassop is officialy as cool as me.
-
I think, apart from the dreadlocks, Yasopp dyes his hair. And is that a starry cape he's wearing? Plus the fake forehead tattoo washing off… Yasopp, you (bad) fashion fiend, you!
I don't think it's unbelievable that Buggy could have survived as part of Roger's crew, especially considering that he's a devil fruit user and that he was a very low member of the crew. His ability, plus sticking close to a better fighter like Shanks (who was willing to watch Buggy's back, even if Buggy didn't return the favor) would make it possible for him to survive the vicious battles Roger's crew faced.
This chapter puts new light on Shanks's relationship with Luffy. It's clear now that Shanks knew (or had a good idea) about the Will of D, and I wonder why exactly Shanks wanted Luffy to return his hat… will Shanks have something to say to the little D-ling of the "new age"? I think it's more than just encouragement. I also wonder what Shanks's concern with Ace is.
-
Was I the only one who couldn't get dub Shank's voice out of my head?
-
[Impel Down arc fan here]
Ace gets beat, and sent to Impel Down, Luffy hears and they come to rescue him?
Lol, I dunno. Oda could throw us anything for the next arc, but I see it being BB related..
-
Was I the only one who couldn't get dub Shank's voice out of my head?
No, you are not alone. Dont flame me for this but, I love Shanks dub voice. I hear it everytime I see Shanks, to me that voice just fits.
-
Yassops hair was like that when Mihawk and Shanks talked too
as much as I'd love to see it I don't see Blackbeard pulling a Sarquiss on Ace unless of course seastone
and now we run down the Shanks feats of awsome
1. Carries a Dai-katana blade attached to a cutlass handle
2. Shrugs off loosing limbs to save people
3. Likes to Party
4. Isn't named after the hair under his nose
5. His Stare is stronger than Gendo Ikari's
6. and he can counter a 20 foot mans 20 foot spear with his bad arm
too much win for one character
-
Was I the only one who couldn't get dub Shank's voice out of my head?
i got used to it too, and i also think it suits him…
neways... such a great chapter, i want more though but i could w8...
Buggy a part of Gol D Roger's crew... that's interesting didn't know that
flashy nose travelled the Grand Line already and this is his 2nd time... im
really expecting more from him... Ace is in trouble... hope he doesnt lose
if he did lose, hope Blackbeard bring him to the Marines Alive and not Dead...Impel Down Arc... this would be interesting... they're gonna save a nakama again and their are a lot of characters heading to impel down... i think Crocodile and Bon Clay are heading there... still we'll never know for sure yet
someone might save Ace... -
Wow things are getting hot. There are so much things that can happen that i can tell. Oda can even pull an action-packed arc after another action-packed one so BlackBeard can be the final boss of the first half of the Grand Line.
-
Concerning Buggy's strength…I do seem to recall Oda mentioning in an interview that Buggy is his favorite villain. I'd find it strange if he didn't give him some sort of important role, and it has been hinted at. Very early on in the story he was, as earlier mentioned in this threat, nostalgic about the Grand Line while characters like Gin/Jin (I'm unsure on which you all would consider canon, sorry) were terrified of it, and the man with the largest pirate fleet in East Blue couldn't even handle the early parts of it.
Also, Buggy's Devil Fruit power gives him immunity to nearly any blade attack, much like Luffy's immunity to nearly every blunt attack, with exceptions for both. I'd say that gives him a good bit of personal power...although I'm guessing someone like Mihawk might still be able to harm Buggy with a blade in the same manner that Garp could harm Luffy with a punch.
As for his pathetic bounty, well, it's possible that he's just lacked the drive to get anything accomplished. I have no explanation for that one, and I'm rather curious on how he could have been a pirate for so long and gotten so little, apparently, done.
Edit: Also, I'm still assuming Blackbeard takes Ace down with seastone, personally.
-
Damn nice chapter! Shanks' 'spirit' is cool and shows his power but I pray Oda doesn't over use it. I guess it explains why a glance was enough for Shanks to make a Sea King stop and turn around.
-
The chapter is great and the power of the blow betwen Shanks and WB is so powerfull it split the clouds in 2
I think Buggy's nearly just as strong as Shanks but has a weaker crew to support him
-
Didn't Yassop's hair used to be blondish? Could've sworn it was.
I think you're thinking of the anime…I think it's one of those things that the Toei changed and then Oda started recoloring on color spreads, although Oda might have colored it first. In any case, his hair has always been colored black in the manga, as you can see in chapter 25.
Oh and btw, thank God dub Shanks didn't get stuck in my head.
-
This chapter filled my pants with puddles of joy.
The whole Ace and Blackbeard thing could literally go anywhere at this point, but I'm pretty confident Blackbeard won't get his bum beat. Nor do I see Ace getting the smack-down either, actually. I'm guessing an interruption or Teach merely overwhelming Ace before taking off or something.
Either way, I'm expecting Teach to do something impressive, just because Shanks' revelations wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

…Shanks wouldn't have gotten kicked in the crotch by Luffy.
Where do people come up with this stuff?
-
Random thing, but did anyone notice Teach is wearing a Gold Roger captains coat? Just a random cool thing I thought I'd mention.
Teach does look alittle like Roger… I guess.

don't you guys wonder why shanks cares for ace so much?
is it because ace is his brother?
or maybe because shank is a gay~
lol. :D
nice chapter btw.

I honestly haven't looked at what ANYONE else might have said on this subject at whatever point, but… based on what Shanks said about Blackbeard being a decent enemy to Whitebeard, Ace being no match for him, and all the conversations about how Blackbeard killed his OWN shipmates, who he let everyone believe were his nakama....
Is it possible that Blackbeard is the final truly evil enemy Luffy will ever face?! It would make sense for Luffy to at some point fight WB... but not because he hates him; Shanks acknowledges Whitebeard as a decent guy, and a wonderful pirate. When BB was around Luffy, he seemed like he had the right pirate attitude, but killing your own nakama to achieve a selfish goal....
Luffy's fight against Whitebeard will be the same type of "Zomg match to show how much stronger you got and prove further to the world that you're an amazing pirate!" as Zoro's final fight against Mihawk (and similar to fights that might happen later against Ao Kiji or Smoker, as in: no one will die or probably even knocked get knocked unconcious for a long period of time), but his fight against Blackbeard might be the last type of Lucchi/Enel/Crocodile/Arlong enemy fight there is in the series. This is even more likely because of the size of Blackbeard's crew, because one of these is bound to be an astounding swordsman, and another is bound to fight without a weapon. These are the appropriate fights for Zoro and Sanji that appear in all the fights vs. villains.
Just a thought. From how often we see him, he doesn't seem like a terrible guy, but I bet he is.
-
Yasopp's appearance is always changing.
1 coverpage - Dirty blonde dreads with Yasopp bandana
1/25 - Black curly with Yasopp bandana
96/234 - Black dreads with Yasopp tattooed on forehead
434 - Black dreads with Yasopp tattoed on his armIts ever changing.

I have a feeling that Mihawk will be the one to interupt Shanks and Whitebeard's duel with some news of what's happening further back on the Grandline. It will somehow be about the recent exploits of the Strawhats at Enis Lobby, as well as Blackbeard's appointment to the Shichibukai for his defeating Ace.

THANK YOU!! I said that in the spoiler thread. Well, the part about the Mugiwara at least.
-
Awesome chapter!! Blackbeard's badassness is on a new level. I'm hoping he owns Ace. And anyone remember Marco and Juzo's first appearance in the foreground of chapter 234?

that was pointed out alot in the spoiler thread
-
My secret hope is that Ace is captured and sent to Impel Down, and we get Luffy and co. rescuing Ace and meeting back up with Crocodile, another WG fortification would fall to the Straw Hats, and Dragon would finally stand up and take notice of them being potentially valuable in his revolution.
-
that was pointed out alot in the spoiler thread
Ah, my mistake. I never check the spoiler page.
-
Wow, after exactly 200 chapters, it finally happens. The next chapter is definitely one to look forward to.
-
Because he knows Ace will be beaten, and that will give Blackbeard the Shichibukai spot he's been going after for a while. Shanks probably thinks Blackbeard becoming a Shichibukai is the first step of his rise to power.
i agree 100%. i think shanks went there to warn whitebeard because the balance of power was soon going to change. if blackbeard indeed is as strong as a emperor and if he becomes shichibukai then the balance of power is going to shift over to the world governments side. just imagine blackbeard teaming up with all the shichibukai and maybe even some of the admirals to take on some of the emperors. if blackbeard starts killing emperors then it's obviously going to be the other 2 emperors that we don't know much about and then he's probably going to go after shanks and whitebeard. who knows for all we know blackbeard true intention is to team up with the world government to kill the 4 emperors and when he's finished doing that then he is probably going to turn on the world government and then try to take over. i'm sure many of the shichibukai would love to team up with blackbeard if he tried to do something like that because that means they would all become the rulers of the world.
-
Now that it's put that way…...........incredibly awesome.
Shanks is so logical.
-
and he can counter a 20 foot mans 20 foot spear with his bad arm
don't want to be nit-picking but please refrain from calling the awesomeness that is the kwan dao (bisento) a spear
