So far the only live-actions I've watched are Cinderella and Mulan. Cinderella worked because it was Kenneth Branagh who does anything classical well and because it's hard to fuck up a Cinderella story. Mulan was . . . a sad, sad disappointment.

I think The Jungle Book (both versions) and Pete's Dragon are the only Disney remakes I've seen and those seem to have been the films that at least tried to be their own things rather than just remaking the same film in "live action".
-
I mostly liked the Nu Jungle Book for the same reason, with the extremely awkward rendition of "human like you" fittingly being the low point.
Well, almost lowest point, my least favorite bit being
! Mowgli causing the giant forest fire in the end. I really really hate the "Yaaay you saved us from the disaster you created!" trope, and here it also proved Shere Kahn right . Apart from that and the clunky Kaa scene, it worked pretty well, and justified its existence OK methinks- the key being feeling more like a new Jungle Book take than a new DISNEYs Jungle book take.
-
Yeah, I had a GREAT time watching the Jungle Book movie.
Regardless of source material, it entertained me as an actual MOVIE,
which was very much appreciated. -
I still can't believe that not only we got Christopher Walken to play King Louie, but they also put a subtle cowbell reference in there.
-
If you want to see a nearly three hour long tear down of the Lion King live action film, Red Letter Media style, here you go!
Also this is only part one.Saw this pop up on my Youtube feed and I kinda brushed it off at first. I loved YMS's Cool Cat video, but then I saw his review of Toy Story 3 and it just seemed like a bunch of nitipicky bullcrap to me.
But since you brought it up again I decided to watch it and, yeah, I'm really glad I did. I love getting sucked into a nice long Youtube video and this was an entertaining and pretty insightful watch. A shame we're probably going to be waiting over a year for Part 2.
-
The weakest Toy Story will always be number 2 for me, and I will stand by that.
Despite Jessie being a fun character and learning more about Woody's history,
I didn't find much else about the movie memorable.1=3>4>2 for me.
-

I was on a first date and absolutely cracking up at the cowbell scene, and not a single other person in the theater reacted.

It is way too long a video to be anything but background noise and the terrible live action movie doesn't warrant this much effort of being dissected shot by shot… but it DOES make you appreciate just how good the original was.
Doing side by side comparisons showing what the new one did wrong brings to light so so many things the original did RIGHT that I never noticed because it was subtle and artful and so well done you don't even think about it. Nuances of character or performances of their lines..
In particular something like the stampede scene and how the music changed with every shot and told a story. It was so ingrained and well done that I never noticed before that, for example, it had a very specific sound when Zazu was flying during that scene, or the music spiraled downward when... the characters were going downhill. It so perfectly matches what's on screen and so subtle and nuanced you don't even think about it. Of COURSE it works that way, thats what a soundtrack is SUPPOSED to do. I've heard the soundtrack so many times I don't process it, but seeing it in action overlayed on clips and pointed out? Neat!
And then the live version basically uses the exact same music timed basically the same with minimal re-arrangement, but without timing it to shot changes or new compositions, it was just phoned in.

There was another live action jungle book done almost the same time with Andy Serkis directing, (it was ready to release the same time as Disney's but they held it for a year for obvious spacing reasons) and I liked that one a lot more. It was messier and more uneven maybe, but I liked it more.

For those interested, I covered another Euro Disney Comic - in this one, Magica De Spell wrecks the multiverse

New Chip and Dale trailer is out.

Hahaha oh hell yes, I had my doubts at the first trailer but I'm all in now

Also this is only part one.Jeez they really went after them (It's longer than the film!)
[And you know I wouldn't want to agree if it weren't for seeing the Lion King deepfake, which is awesome (in a very low budget kinda way).
I](
)f only we had the same crowd that got Sonic revamped get behind this lol. -
New Chip and Dale trailer is out.
Okay, the first trailer looked godawful, but this has more potential. Especially with all the types of animation being represented.
And ironically, it looks like Disney is slooooowllly starting up their 2D animation, or at least training and keeping a small team on hand for times when it's needed. Apparently they had like nobody to draw the animated world in Mary Poppins Returns so they had to pull old animators out of retirement or hiding and that cost them a chunk they didn't like spending. So they are enticing people into it again:
-
I have to say it's about time they're bringing back 2d animation.
-
Rescue Rangers looks to be bringing LEGO Movie style piss-taking energy to the whole Franchise Mashup concept, which is the main way I think I can tolerate it at this point. Gruff Peter Pan with stubble and a beer belly? Yes please. And speaking of the live action Lion King, I'd like to think its no coincidence that soulless CGI Pumbaa is the one to have the "dead eyes" comment.
Hot dog, its coming out the day I'm handing in my ph.d. thesis- I hope its good

New Chip and Dale trailer is out.
Peter just looks like the personification of "MY CHILDHOOD'S BEEN RAPED!"
I was curious about this but now I'm all for it.

i thought the bear would be Norm of the North for a while.

Disney tells DeSantis to suck it in the loudest way possible: with money.

1Bi in today's money or 1Bi in 1970s money? Because there a helluva of difference in how much Florida would need to pay to get rid of the probable only reason to visit the state.

They could always advertise as that one place where Stone Ocean takes place.

Sashanne so hot right now.
Dana Terrace confirmed that TOH will be renewed with Disney++ as Gay Witches Trauma: The Show.
-
Haha. The most watched show on Disney+ in 2021 wasn't Marvel, Star Wars, OR Disney. It was the Simpsons:
https://uproxx.com/tv/disney-plus-simpsons-most-popular-show/ -
I've heard (from SimpsonsTubers) that season 33 is a minor renaissance of quality character-driven stories, plus some fine tuning like getting rid of jerkass Homer and giving Smithers an actual romance with a new character.
-
Never even thought to look at the other stuff to watch on Disney plus outside of Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar
Edit: and Disney animated movies

That was a huge cliffhanger for next week finale of Amphibia.
! I didn't expected an cameo from Pepper Ann during this episode.
-
Nah, the twist villain will definitely be Zipper.
I would be so much more hyped for this if it wasn't for the fake 2D animation.
-
Man that Amphibia episode. Jolly good show.

He's hiding a Lex Luthor-type brain in there, just watch.

And now is the time for Disney to release ad-supported tier subscriptions:
https://movieweb.com/disney-ad-supported-tiers-2022-international-versions-2023/?utm_source=MW-FB-P&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_campaign=MW-FB-P&fbclid=IwAR1C5SXTIRKEgaYpobuZtCvU_Xj24M7UgZAmUH4zTnRqGqVxCXaWSgVU32wAlthough annoying, hardly surprising. My question is: I'm on Disney+ through the Hulu bundle. What's that mean for me?
-
In theory the as support tier will be a cheaper tier. Same with the plan Netflix is theoretically doing. It shouldn't affect your current plan at all unless they want a ton of outrade.
Crunchyroll actually already does this, but their ad tier is free. (Though they're going to be borking that up by delaying all new releases by a long time, or possibly permanently.)
-
Amphibia series finale is in less than thirty minutes. If you're on the West Coast, you might want to avoid social media sites for the next few hours.
-
The Amphibia finale was great. I'm still tearing up a bit, even after a few minutes it ended.
! The ten years later part got me. Seeing both Sprig and Polly older was nice. I didn't expected Sasha would go to that career route.
-
They really went full anime in the finale.
! Seriously spoilers
! Can’t believe OG Anne is dead and she’s replaced by a clone. That’s insane to think about.I got teary eyed a number of times. Really happy I gave this show a chance before the final half of the season began. It was a fun ride.
Now to see how the Owl House fares.

Now to see how the Owl House fares.
Hamstrung and sabotaged by the studio. However it works out we're going to know what comes wasn't really the intended plan or pacing.
-
Owl house had it's calm before the storm episode.
Now to the Frog finale:! Wow Anne did died, in a ship of Theseus kinda of way. Poor Anne also 2006-2110, sorry kiddo your now escaping my retirement plan said God. Olivia and Yunan got together, sir this newts be gay good for them. Bessie and Joe Sparrow.
-

The show’s been coping with the slashed third season pretty well. Sure, they’re sacrificing breather episodes that could’ve built more development like being the gang being on the beach but the flip is constant story progression. And things haven’t felt too crazy rushed yet.
Got a laugh the latest episode threw shade at the situation.
-
The Owl House became a game of how much shade Dana can legally throw at Disney without getting blacklisted in the industry and it is showing in S2.
-
! Did I just spotted a keychain of Bakugo from MHA and Sakura from Naruto?
-
Now he finale rush cooled down with me I got 2cents about it.
! I know change is the Hardest Thing, it's hard scary but can lead to growth. But still FUCKING sucks that they are forever separated from their Amphibia family.
I also felt strange that the girls kinda drifted away after some thing - yes yes their bond is still strong - but is weird that once they went for so much in the 5 months spent in Amphibia, so much character growth and change and it feels like their friendship weakens instead of growing strong after all that.
! I'm kinda bothered by this American centric message (yes I know it's an American cartoon) that for your own personal growth you need to get some distance from your loved ones and friends (the typical outer state college experience) and that drifting away from than can be some kind of good for you. It's just like SU:Future, Steven didn't needed a soul searching road trip out of beach city, he needed fucking therapy because he's been the emotional anchor and therapist to 3/4 of his parental figures since he was 13 and been together with them in multiple close death adventures.
! I swear Dana, if TOH ends if a similar not with a forever separation of the Human and Demon realm, I'm gonna find the perpetual recording booth your boyfriend is trapped and do thing to him. Hooty induced truma things to him. -
A clip from the Chip n Dale movie is out.
-
Amphibia gave me everything I could've wanted and none of the disappointing or meh mistakes of so many other finales. I was already rating Amphibia higher than Gravity Falls before this, but the finale clinches it. Absolute favorite and need to buy a box set of this series asap.
! As far as the epilogue goes, it's still got some of the standard epilogue writing issues we can't ever seem to get away from. The frog side skip was pretty much perfect, can't complain there. However, screwed up a little bit with all the 10 years talk, making it easy to accidentally think the girls are seeing each other for the first time in 10 years. At least, that was my initial thought. I'd bet this isn't even Marcy's first trip back, considering this is taking place as the girls are already finishing college. Going through the scene some more, there's no way these girls actually drifted apart. It just became more of a virtual friendship or whatever you call it. Sasha and Marcy's talk was just your basic small talk shit friends always do when they actually meet up after awhile. There's just something about being in person that makes you talk about stuff you technically have probably already discussed in text or online long before.

Am I the only that
