I'm actually curious to see which storylines it will be covering. Since I really enjoyed the animated series adaptation of The Dark Phoenix saga.

This is such garbage. I’m tired of dinosaurs obsessed with their childhood having such a big influence on this property. TAS was literally not even that good.
Neat. Hope it turns out well so we get a revival wave that picks up the shows i liked the most. Dare i hope for someone to make a swat kats revival? Or spectacular spiderman. One can dream

funny you say that about spider man. There’s going to be an animated Spider-Man during his freshman years animated show coming out. Maybe not as special since they’ve been doing spider-man animated shows nonstop since the 90s, but still. Here’s another one coming up.

This doesn't excite me at all. I know that show was a lot of people's first version of X-Men so its a big soft spot, and if its the first time you ever saw any of those stories like Phoenix Saga, woah.
But it hasn't aged geat. Some iconic stuff to it, mostly the voices, but if you didn't specifically grow up on it… well, they've done better versions since. X-Men Evolution was better overall for the most part.
Mostly I hate that Pride of the X-Men was such a misfire and thus didn't go to series... we could have had Nightcrawler and Collosus and Kitty as mainstay icons and the awesome 80's costumes... and instead it got rolling like two years later so we got Gambit and Jubilee and sometimes Bishop and the meh Jim Lee designs.
I love Jubilee, huge fan, but she's no Kitty.
Probably for the best we didn't keep Dazzler around though. She's hard to explain out of the 70's.
Yeah i remember being dissapointed that the line-up didn't have rogue or gambit when i first tried to read the x-men comics. Never cared for Kitty and was mildly annoyed by how she was clearly the authors pet, and medium squicked out by her romance with a waaay older russian. Jubes was somehow less grating for me.
I will side with Robby here, Evolution was better. And that's coming from someone that watched both as a kid.

Definitely better than Spider-Man TAS. Which yes you can argue the bar was low.

Waiting to see how certain bitch about how it’s not as good as Spectacular Spider-Man. And also how they shoehorn Mary Jane into this because you can’t do anything different in so far as long interests for as many as Peter has had.
Neat. Hope it turns out well so we get a revival wave that picks up the shows i liked the most. Dare i hope for someone to make a swat kats revival? Or spectacular spiderman. One can dream
You need prayer not hope for a Spec revival.
Incidentally, I'm watching through the original X-men TAS now. Saw a handful of episodes as a kid, but never watched the whole show.
Yeah, it's pretty dated and a lot of the acting and writing is corny and awkward, but I guess it's serviceable enough if you want to become more familiar some of the X-men characters and lore (though they don't always do a great job of establishing or building them up).
I'm in the fourth season now and I'm actually surprised at how adult some of the material is. Like they don't skirt around the issue at all that Nightcrawler is very religious. That's just not something I think they would do in a kids show today.
As for this revival announcement? …eh, whatever. Maybe it could be good.
Nightcrawler being very religious… was literally not a big thing yet in the '90s. Sure, he was a believing Catholic and that sometimes was brought up when they fought Dracula or whatever, but he was also a womanizer and a jokester. Then TAS made the religious thing his big personality trait and then the comics and movies adopted that as his personality too.
Which shows how "well" that show got these characters and how damaging it was longterm.
Nightcrawler having only 2 episodes in TAS was the biggest thing against it.
Who do you guys consider essential X-Men members?
There’s soooooooo many characters throughout the years in the comics that I think listing all members who you consider essential is definitely up to opinion but I’ll list mine
Cyclops
Wolverine
Jean Gray
Storm
Emma Frost
Night crawler
Beast
Ice man
Angel
Havok
Rouge
Gambit
Shadowcat
Colossus
Polaris
Psylocke
Bishop
Cable
Jubilee
And then maybe as secondary members I’d have new mutants members
Sunspot
Cannonball
Moonstar
Karma
Magik
Magma
Boom boom
Cypher And Warlock
Wolfsbane
And even though there villains since they’ve been on team numerous times
Magneto
Mystique
Saber tooth
I know that I’m probably missing a couple super obvious ones
What’s your opinions?

It was probably more solid.
But it only had the second best rogue tho.

Here you go hating on one of the seminal works of our time. Next you'll be hating on the weird suction cup "plasma" suckers and the fact that the same three explosion animations are used for five seasons.
You need prayer not hope for a Spec revival.
Why must you stomp all over my fondest dream.

I have never, in any iteration, seen the appeal of jean grey.
Even cyclops, who is like the definition of who cares, has more appeal than her.

Nah I’ll just hate on the awkward lip syncing delay, the rare overacting, and the seizure inducing spider sense sequences:ninja:
Why must you stomp all over my fondest dream.
Hey if Robby can piss on childhoods someone has to piss on dreams inspired by those same childhood aspects.

Can't have spiderman without some ham y'know.
Channeling the hammy spirit of Stan Lee.

Curse you Bobby Bev!
I am pissing on no childhoods. Those that grew up on the later shows had it better.
I envy the 90's kids that had Turtles 03 as their first Turtles series instead of Turtles 89.
Like Spectacular Spiderman is hands down THE best Spiderman show, but it was also like the fifth one I saw after already having the comics for decades. I can appreciate it but it'll never be SPECIAL to me.
I am pissing on no childhoods.
Well not now but with X-Men 93 being brought back care to go off about Apocalypse the shitty villain that wears an “A” on his belt buckle again ?
Can we have Sentinels being incompetents again?
Well not now but with X-Men 93 being brought back care to go off about Apocalypse the shitty villain that wears an “A” on his belt buckle again ?
Nah, I don't have that fire in me anymore.
Feel free to hunt down and repost an old post of mine though, same effect.
Apocalypse was a pretty stupid villain though in both comics and cartoon given he was basically immortal and all powerful. The only time he's ever worked as a villain was the Age of … when theyjust sort of skipped the middleman part of him actually conquering the world and just arrived at the end result.
I've always found the i have all the power villains less fun than the specialized bois so i never much cared for Apokalypse. My favorite villain from that era was probably mr sinister.
"I am a brick wall that can't be hurt no matter how much you attack me and I'm just immortal" is so so boring.
Apocalypse was bad until 2 years ago. Mr Sinister was bad until 10 years ago.

But enough about Shigaraki…

Still kinda pisses me off the movies haven't done Mr. Sinister yet. Not that I'm really sure he would be done justice.

Oh I hate her too, the story is better with out her definitely, but she’s so iconic as an X-men that I had to put her on the list
Jean Grey has never had any apeal. She just happened to be one of the founding five so… she keeps getting used. If she'd been part of the second gen she would have just been drpped along the way and forgotten like Thunderbird. (Or maybe if Claremont had created her she'd be more interesting.) But Psylocke has the ninja and magic glowy blade thing, and Emma Frost has the bad girl "only looking out for herself" thing... and they're both way way more interesting.
There's a reason they keep killing Jean, its the most interesting thing about her is when she goes evil so the good girl is suddenly naughty. . That and her liking the scary tough guy WOlverine over the clean borign Scott. That worked for a little while.
THough Emma's been one of the goodguys for almost three decades now, so I don't know that even she really works anymore like she did.
Emma Frost's a ruthless pragmatist which is still a fairly unique viewpoint for superheroes (even Magneto's an idealist in his own way), women in particular. Her love for teaching also softens her up a bit.
Actually really worried about how X-Men '97 will depict her.

Remove the OG 5, have the New Mutants be more integrated with the X rooster and have head master Magneto.
As for villains, Arcade, Gyrich, Belasco, some Shi'aar Bullshit, Dracula and Doom lusting for Ororo.
"I am a brick wall that can't be hurt no matter how much you attack me and I'm just immortal" is so so boring.
Isn't that Juggernaut?
Isn't that Juggernaut?
Juggy has a very clear weakness. "Remove the helmet" and then he's vulnerable. He's also very straightforward and doesn't have much else going for him. As unstoppable as he is physically, he can be contained and can't just nuke a city in one shot. He's a threat, but he's not broken and unbeatable.
And Cain is also a Dazzler fan.
Not sure if I'm excited about this or not.
I re-watched the original series (And Spider-man TAS) a couple years ago and it just didn't hold up very well.
Plus, even reviving a good series doesn't always work out (See Bruce Timm returning to Batman TAS with the rather dire B__atman and Harley Quinn movie).

The trick there is that even though Bruce TImm and Paul Dini get all the credit for Batman TAS, Timm just sort of did art designs and didn't have a lot of talent or influence beyond that. The REAL secret weapon was the producer/showrunner Alan Burnett.
Look at the DCAU production WITH Burnett and they're all great. Look at the ones without him, that just have Bruce Timm, and you can see the drop off.
Like, he's fine, but he's not the real reason Batman TAS sung… despite consistently getting half the credit.
There's a reason Timm hasn't gotten any work outside of DC animated projects while Dini and Burnett worked on lots and lots of things, and have resumes that predate Batman.
My excitement depends on what "revive" means. I'd love seeing those characters again but I want more X-Men than them and better adapted stories from the comics. Honestly, just make a new X-Men series in the vein of Young Justice and I'd be happy.
Still kinda pisses me off the movies haven't done Mr. Sinister yet. Not that I'm really sure he would be done justice.
Mr. Sinister was a fond memory from X-Men:TAS so yeah, I'm impatient to see him but also a little worried.

Phoenix is the only reason to keep Jean around, isn't it?
If Sinister is not played as full camp then what is the point.
I believe Bryan Cranston said he'd be interested in playing Sinister. So yeah, they'd have to work pretty hard to fuck that up.
Phoenix is the only reason to keep Jean around, isn't it?
Considering she hasn’t been the host of the Phoenix in years and even rejected it the last time it tried to bond with her?
Her appeal now is dressing up in her old school outfit and sinking ships I guess.
So the white queen turns team good guy? Must be a while ahead cause i'm up to about 1986 and she's still just running the not Xavier school for mean mutants to spite prof X

Oh man Dracula would be great. The supernatural meets superhero comics is one of those things that shouldn't mix as well as it does. I especially how it just pisses all over the this guy has rank two power level so he loses to power level three and makes Dracula throw Colossus around despite him lifting 80 tons or whatever ridiculous number powerlevels have inflated to these days. Reminds me of old times when characters fluctuated wildly in power depending on the threat they were facing

I'm probably a bit weird but whenever i re-watch spiderman TAS it is exactly as i remembered it. Still looks beutiful to me with all it's flaws.

Wait wut? Malcoms dad as mr sinister?
I would totally watch Walter as Mr. Sinister.
Bryan Cranston as Sinister would be terrible casting…

She turns good around 1994.
Cranston would be terrible if he played Essex as Walter White serious character, could be fun if he went full Essex debauchery and campiness in a Malcolm's dad kinda way.
Too bad that the MCU fandom that themselves to serious (but not like the Snyder Cult serious) to have a full blown silly campy villain, RIP Arcade's chances.

Guess Arcade fans will have to settle for his appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Well, we know Cranston is good at doing both drama and comedy. He would be fine, it would eventually be up to the director/scriptwriter to decide just how campy Mr. Sinister would get.
From what I’ve seen of mister sinister in the latest X-Men books he seems more of the walls and cooky than a hard boiled bad ass, especially with his constant interactions with his clones and his love for his cape
Cranston’s just not how I pictured the guy
Now Lex Luther, that would be something
She turns good around 1994.
Alright so at the current rate the masterworks are being released i should get there like 2025 and by then i will have forgotten all about this and be suprised again
It's coming next month.
I remember watching a few episodes of the original series back when it aired on Fox Kids and liking it fine. Guess I'll be spending the next few days on Disney Plus.
Seeing the animation style now is still a little weird. But I'm not gonna lie, that Gambit and Wolverine combo was pretty badass.
Seeing that made me realize I never watched the series finale. Wonder how much I actually missed.
Love how close to the old series it looks. Love they kept Ororo's classic look but added her mohawk, which is her best hair, but for whatever reason I am not feeling optimistic.
What the hell is going on with that animation?
@Nobodyman said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:
What the hell is going on with that animation?
Well over the top with the 90s cell animated retro look done over what appears to be another form of animation (3D rigging probably given the backgrounds).
