Can't wait to get this second shot so I can start returning to normalcy!

The EU is suing AstraZeneca over delays in their deliveries.

Some relevant stories from today's What the Fuck Just Happened Today:
The Department of Agriculture extended a pandemic benefits program to feed up to 34 million children from low-income families over this summer. The plan will provide about $375 per child to buy food for the roughly 10 weeks they are out of school in the summer – about $7 a weekday. (NBC News / Axios)
The U.S. will send 60 million doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine abroad. The AstraZeneca vaccine, which hasn’t been authorized for use in the U.S. by the FDA, will be sent to other countries once it clears federal safety reviews. “We do not need to use AstraZeneca in our fight against covid,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. AstraZeneca has not sought FDA authorization for its vaccine, but has already manufactured millions of doses in the U.S. under a federal contract. (Associated Press / Bloomberg / Washington Post)
The CEO of a vaccine production facility sold more than $10 million worth of his company stock before disclosing that it had ruined 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine. The transactions were Robert Kramer’s first substantive sales of Emergent stock since April 2016. (Washington Post)- poll/ 22% of Americans said they’re willing to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 73% not yet immunized against the coronavirus say they’re not willing, and 4% had no opinion. (Washington Post)

How come the AstraZeneca vaccine was not approved by the FDA?
-
Probably lobby, they already had deals with Pfizer and Moderna, with J&J making a push through Jansen it seemed pointless to keep the vaccines. I goes under consideration that last year US bought a year work of Pzifer production of vaccines.

Getting my second Pfizer shot Thursday… it feels like the light at the end of the tunnel is visible.
-
No, don't go into the light…Why does English have so many light idioms?
Now I've seen the light. To get off light during the pandemic, give the vaccine a green light, then light a fire under others to get vaccinated. With a light heart, we can travel light again and see the light of day as we emerge from our homes. Lets remove Covid from the limelight, grasp the ray of light and become a leading light of the world. With a light heart after receiving my first dose I say "Let's light into Covid," don't go light on it. You might think I'm lightheaded right now, but I'm light years away from that. I'm running light on light idioms now so I'm going to light out of here.

Here's to hoping your side effects are minimal! Congrats. :)

Getting my second Pfizer shot Thursday… it feels like the light at the end of the tunnel is visible.
They told me that it takes two weeks for the vaccine to fully take effect.
After that, you have a less than 1% chance of catching the UK and Italian strains, and so far no vaccinated person has died from COVID.Booster shots should be ready by the fall.
-
Got my 2nd dose today. Now to just wait for it to take its toll on my body.

The CDC has now declared that those who are fully vaccinated can go without wearing their masks outside, unless in a big crowd of strangers:

Woot! I was about to post this as I saw it on npr but you got ahead of me xD
I also like the one chart that was in that article – very helpful in determining what is safe to do versus not:
!
Speaking of the vaccine, I be getting my second shot on Thursday! So, I can't wait. I feel like once autumn hits, the majority of people will be vaccinated and things will be much safer for everyone. Be weird going back into a world that I felt was so long ago honestly. Though one thing I learned from this pandemic is that masks help and are super effective against spreading disease. I will be from on wearing mask when I'm sick in the future, to make sure what I have doesn't spread; hopefully others will see that and follow me in doing so. I feel like if the United States adopts a mask culture like how it is in places like Japan or China, it will help improve health, I think.

I got my second Pfizer shot today.
I'm glad to have it, but I just know there's going to be another spike with that CDC declaration since there's always been one whenever restrictions have been lifted and I'm not looking forward to idiots trying to come in to my workplace claiming that they don't need to wear a mask given that it's a pretty crowded place. My mom also ended up testing positive recently despite being fully vaccinated; fortunately she was fine, but a lot of people don't seem to realize that the vaccine doesn't necessarily stop you from having it and potentially spreading it around albeit at a reduced degree.

Idles of April: 82.266 deaths
15 days out of a 30 day month with 3K+ deaths. -
Not that it's something to celebrate, but I think India is starting to beat you.
-
The accumulated SARS death's from 2020-2021 is at: 500K, considering that were a total of 5K diagnosed and un-diagnosed SARS deaths in 2019 where probably at 500K deaths already.
India has the possibility to pass, everybody, and probably is already much closer to 300K or more than the official registry. -
Man, I must be lucky because my second dose of Pfizer has been smooth as silk. In fact, I think it's gone better than my first dose. With my first dose my arm was sore for a week and I had a bruise, but with my second my arm only sore for maybe two days.

I was bracing for the side effects of the second dose because of what I've heard, but I didn't get anything at all. After the first dose I could feel the spot where I got the shot for around a day, but I didn't get soreness or anything else from the second dose.
-
I got my second Covid shot on Thursday! I got really lucky, only had some burning on the shoulder where I got shot, and later on the next day some soreness, but otherwise it was just fine – no other side effects. And I got meds to help just in case I got sick a little, but guess it was not needed at all.
-
I had no negative side effects with the first Pfizer shot and after my second I only had a mild headache that made my day annoying but by the next day I was back to 100% so things sailed smoothly over here.
On the other hand, I think I'm getting 5G now…
-
Well, I got my second shot of Sputnik last Sunday, and I actually had a fairly uneventful night. Meaning I didn't have a fever like last time and slept through almost all of it. My head hurt like hell the next day though, and my arm is still sore, but I'm quite alright now.
Most of my colleagues have gotten their vaccines or are in the process of getting it, my grandparents are already inoculated, and my brother has an appointment for this Saturday.
Only my mom remains, who hasn't even registered yet, and I have no idea how to convince her. Hearing that my brother's getting it gave me hope that she'd come around by now, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It probably didn't help that she overhears a lot of anti-vaccine comments when she goes of bike tours (yes, even with the virus still very much present, she going on these). I feel like I can't do anything, yet fear that one day she'll get infected and end up in a hospital. One of my friends dad died recently of Covid, and it was truly heartbreaking seeing the hope steadily vanish till the very end. Especially after my friend shared with us that his dad asked to be brought home with probably some of his last words. They couldn't do anything though, because he was infectious and he wouldn't have lasted half an hour without the added oxygen-supply.
There are some things I don't miss from before it all started. Commuting hours to and from work, I don't mind skipping forever. Home-office is quite nice, if a tad bit lonely sometimes. I've had enough of fear and stupidity though.
-
Yeah, being your classic introvert I didn't exactly miss going outside much, but I think we're all mentally and emotionally exhausted by now.

Your story sounds a little hopeless. I am saddened by the fact that the 21st century is still full of people who do not believe in the effectiveness of vaccinations. This is upsetting and I don't even know how you can shut up all those who advocate vaccine refusal at every corner.

Over 50% of the staff at my girlfriend's school still refuse to get vaccinated for various reasons.
It's not that there are still people who doubt vaccines, they're all new people who've stopped trusting our medical system as a result of last year's Trump-caused CDC disasters.
-

"Did you died of smallpox? Did you have polio? No? Yeah vaccines did, so stop being a whinny bitch about a medical technique that has been effect for nearly 200 years."
It's not hard. -

It's not as easy as you'd think.
-

"It was not develop by the Trump administration, it was develop by private health corporation. With the knowledge of the Corona type virus acquired since it's discovery in the 50s. The fact we had so many vaccines in so little time speaks wonders of how the medical sector could be if it wasn't controlled by greed oligarchs."

Now we're into stuff that isn't Googleable in five seconds for most of the population, and if they can't independently verify it you can't convince them.
"Why would they make people sign waivers mentioning possible infertility if it was safe?" -

It just proves that they prefer ignore science in order to hold their beliefs, the thing is science doesn't need your belief to be true.
-

Yeah, but then how do we change their views and get them vaccinated?
-
Get a big, strong person or two to hold them down.
-
Well if one is against medical treatments one should refuse to be hospitalized. Let natural selection do it's work.
-
A good argument Robo, to use against anti-vaxxers. -
Should give the chemical composition that makes up the human body and really fuck them up.

This is too funny not to post:

The introduction of a curfew among some other decisions start showing actual effects in Germany. Even though the former was highly debated for sure. The numbers of cases are dropping while vaccination rates are increasing by a good margin, it seems we can enjoy some of the summer at least if this keeps up. Also I'm actually getting my first shot on Monday, which even at the beginning of this year I didn't think would happen until like late autumn.
-

Grats, I'm trying my best here (Bavaria), but my doctor isn't even done with the 70+ patients. She can't even give me a rough estimate when she's done with the third pirority group.
Meanwhile, our federal minister comes up with new priority sub-groups every few days >_>But at least my mom is getting her shot next week, that was honestly the biggest worry I had in this whole covid mess. Everything else is an afterthought.
-
Well, I can't get vaccinated before mid-June at least. We have age restrictions here. The elderly gets their vaccine first

I like this argument!
Another way to get anti-vaxxers to take a vaccine is to say that the anti-vaxxer movement was created by the government so people won't take the vaccines and die. In other words, telling the anti-vaxxer that the government is trying to get people to die, so the best way is to oppose the government by taking the vaccine. Basically, use a conspiracy to fight another conspiracy to get people to take the damn vaccine which can help everyone, so life can be normal again.

In order for that to work you'd have to have some kind of "proof", or at least a well-produced Youtube video.

I got my first shot last month and will be getting my second this week. I'm not sure why my two shots are a month apart when many people got theirs just weeks apart.
A lot of people I know got sick after the second shot. I'm not worried about it as long as I'm immune for a while. It just sucks that nobody knows for sure how long the immunity lasts. I keep hearing 3 months and then at least 6 months. I hope they're good for at least one year.

How long we're immune for depends entirely on how quickly vaccine-resistant strains take to emerge and spread.
Right now all of the vaccines convey at least some immunity to every known strain, and the length of time that immunity is known to last keeps increasing so if no vaccine-resistant strains ever emerge we could have immunity for years. -
According to IHME, there a sub notification of covid deaths in around 50%. And their methodology is solid.

Hmmm, that is true enough. Well, I think some can be convinced anyway if you have a good argument to back it up.

An anti-vaccine conspiracy about the vaccinated are leading some anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers to contemplate wearing a mask and social distance.
