Well it took a year but I finally got around to getting and finishing SOJ
All in all? guess it wasn't this part of the 2nd trilogy that Justice For All was to the first.
Though of course I have some reservations.
! - The writing at times really strained suspension of disbelief while I can believe a foreign lawyer going to another country to defend someone, a foreign prosecutor going to another country and being appointed to prosecute a case? This was already obnoxious with Francizka but I kind of have to call bullshit on this hard.
! - Do we really need red herrings for evidence like Inga's gemstone in case 5, or have other things not really feature into the any of the revelations like the lone bullet that shattered one of the statues in the tomb? which apparently was one of the bullets that was shot at Durke but missed hitting him.
! - Can anyone explain how baby Apollo avoided being burned to a crisp we're supposed to infer Dhurke saved him but it does seem kind of funny he saved Apollo but let his father and everything on him to burn….or if Ga'ran will be charged with murder seeing as how the false flag operation led to his apparent death?
! - As someone mentioned earlier the convenient plot twists (some of which we're blatantly predictable) while I get this is kind of a staple of the series it really got a bit too ridiculous at times, whether it be Apollo somehow being left with his father which in turn explains how he was abandoned by his mother, or Dhurke having been dead through the entirety of the last case.
! - Apollo choosing to stay in Khura'rin seems like a really heavy handed way for the writers to further pretend that Apollo wasn't at one point supposed to be the new face of the games.
! - After hearing let it go and move on god knows how many times in case 3 I wanted Nahyuta's prayer beads to magically gain sentience and strangle him....it's kind of funny he stopped with that by the time of the last case.
! - The mean spirited humor that the series is known for is kind of starting to wear thin. I mean the pun's aren't too much better but.
! - The whole deal with the Founder's Orb felt like a bit of a cop-out. Since you're figuring someone's going to use the orb to channel the Holy Mother...but then they don't.
! - Ga'ran's breakdown was a bit disappointing.
! - Also you'd figure with Dhurke being a wanted guy he'd be smart enough to take certain precautions such as not going off into enemy territory by himself.....not choosing to wear some bullet resistant material over his torso.
@Ruin:
If you wanna know, then Ahlbi Ur'gaid, sir
…..
! I just got that
@Crossword:
And when Trucy says that Magnifi kicked him out of the troupe because of his attitude towards magic I couldn't help but think that that rang hollow,
That and even his motive rang hollow I mean I get he's trying to get revenge on Magnifi by proxy all because Magnifi kicked him outta the group but it seemed kind of dumb not only due to the fact that Reus could've easily had gone into business for himself. But with him becoming a successful producer it seemed incredibly pointless to go after Trucy simply because her grandfather (who was a dick in some respects) wouldn't let him have fun with the other magicians.
@zeltrax225:
Having Phoenix get a Guilty Verdict after all this time left a salty taste in my mouth.
I know I had a problem with it do to it being incredibly lazy.
@zeltrax225:
The attempts to write that persona of him out is so blatant.
Yeah I miss the somewhat stern but laidback tanned cynic Phoenix
@Crossword:
Well, 6-4 was obviously there just to give Athena something to do.
Yeah even for how they usted Apollo down to a secondary main character in 5, what they did with Athena was pretty questionable
@Crossword:
Uendo was a fun witness
Yeah I though I'd hate him because of how smug he was but split personality disorder gimmick turned that perception on it's head.
@Crossword:
and it was great to see Blackquill get a sizable role even if he wasn't prosecuting.
Even while being something of a dick and weirdly tsundere.
@Crossword:
Give the poor guy something to do!
Yeah considering he quit being a musician to focus on being a prosecutor he needs the work.
Well hopefully if the next game is Saiban 6 (and if there's a time skip which they practically have to do) they don't give us more Phoenix who could (and should) easily be reduced to a supporting role or dropped altogether…..and with it being on the Switch hopefully the frame rate comes correct cause boy did 5 & 6 have some annoying slowdown. And in that time hopefully Capcom considers releasing the 2nd Gyakuten Kenji game here being they just released it for Android and IOS. But for now I guess it's on to Turnabout Time Traveler....and more characters from gen 1 I didn't really care for.
