My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
-

The MH prison break just makes the heroes look ineffective.
I mean they banked their whole system in a guy for 26-7 years, and we having a bunch of 16 years old showing more than the average professional.
-
I mean they banked their whole system in a guy for 26-7 years.
i don't think this is entirely their fault, AM was way more effective than anything they could realistically muster, they really had no choice but to rely on him. and if he didn't exist AfO will be ruling japan anyway.
-
AFO seems more like a shadowy king pin than a person that would coup a gov't. But they became to reliant on Toshinori, and they idean of hero teams is rather knew, Aizawa generation forwards going by the Pussycats and the one with Edgshot Kamui Wood and Mt Lady.
-
yes he's going to be ruling from the shadows like he was before AM, or maybe not now with the whole "demon lord" thing idk
anyway there isn't any number of combinations of heroes that would be able to keep up with prime all might or defeat AfO this was clearly demonstrated in this arc. -
Which doesn't mean they couldn't cooperate more. O'Clock is the most impressive hero besides Toshinori and even him used the All Might buttom.

! Deku's comatose state will probably end with him being trained by the vestiges. Let's reminder all the bad decisions he made this arc:

"There was a big event so the prison was short staffed" doesn't explain why the built in security was so shit.
It's a comic book with superheroes, that have no limits on the range of their powers, so the limits are the author's imagination.
You could have the prison be a reinforced void hovering inside a hollow mountain with no sides touching anything physical so it's impossible to breach from the outside. You can bury it inside a volcano or under the sea or five miles underground or in something that teleports to a new location hourly, or all of the above. Have a super AI keeping tabs on these things at all times or a hero that created a 27 layer force shield. Have ten thousand automated guns that shoot out pre-stocked sticky balls that Mineta made. Require a DNA lock and eye scan to open any door. Make every door 4 foot thick steel. Create a quirk that literally puts it in an alternate dimension.
It doesn't matter if its not tech that we see in the regular world, it only needs to be built one time, with unlimited funds, with the powers of one given quirk invented just for this situation.
Not just… I guess its basically a regular building that anyone could get to that's normally guarded by a few extra people that can be beaten with a single emp..
Mostly this makes me want to go back and read Worm again. The heroes and villains and the worldbuilding were competent there.
Remember Impel Down with it's 6 levels of security surrounded by a giant sea with no currents and infested with sea monsters blocked by an impenetrable gate? I remember people were worried that Luffy was going to blow through the prison until Magellan roflstomped him on the fourth floor and threw his ass into the fifth out of pity and it was only through a sheer miracle that Luffy survived and the biggest of coincidences that he brought together an escape army filled with some of the toughest badasses who allied out of convenience and even then it was a massive struggle to escape to the entrance, being chased by a guy that could casually stomp Yonkou level pirate crews, and that required a guy who could change his face at will to sacrifice himself just to open the door.

Man, I wish Worm has an anime adaption.

Wow, I never thought I would randomly find another Worm/ Parahumans Universe fan here.
It would really benefit from an anime adaptation. But limit it to Taylor's story
Not Worm2 though.

Not Worm2 though.
Or a good western animation done well would be cool.
A live action would be difficult but that's what brings in the cash but would really prefer an animation.
So much potential and so underappreciated.
I agree with limiting it to Taylor's story and then seeing how it goes. But you know it's all wishes and dreams of us fans until someone sees the potential and pick it up.
Worm done well would put heroes demia to shame. -
The overall assessment just gets to show that one should never expect too much, or then is when disappointment strikes.
I mean they banked their whole system in a guy for 26-7 years, and we having a bunch of 16 years old showing more than the average professional.
As lackluster the prison break was, is consistent with everything we have seen so far. Is it any surprising things started going south for this Hero Society once AM retired. This overreliance has come to bit them in the ass multiple times already

Yes, that just points that they became lenient on the the AM Nuke button, heroes should have crafted a more cooperative network to support AM.

The theme of society's overreliance on All Might could be hammered home.. and it could still be interesting as well. That doesn't mean it had to be an arc, or even more than a couple chapters, but what we got was highly disappointing. It may as well have just been mentioned.

So
! Deku is in coma, but we all know that will end with him having a long talk/trainning with the vestiges. Although is unfair to say he deserve to be in coma, all the damage he did to his own body is not:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BokuNoHeroAcademia/comments/ko1l7s/izukus_way_was_not_the_only_option_and_it_never/ -
It also seemed like having teams of pro heroes that had top notch quirks wasn't really that common. Some had side kicks, but the side kicks were mostly support and not heavy hitters on their own. I think Deku's generation is gonna be when the hero society focuses on smaller groups of A ranks working together with a few B ranks for support.
-
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1008368
! Who's gonna pull a Shinji on Deku?
-
Damn, I really feel bad for Spinner, he is the closest thing to a friend that Tomura has, the poor guy looks really down. The part with Redestro´s clone was cool too, but I am little confused, did he start dissapearing because of Twice´s death or because the heroes managed to injure him enough?
Regarding the hospital part, the Todoroki´s bit was pretty good, looking foward to find out where Todoroki will go from this point. Also curious about Endeavor´s eventual public appearance, the commision may want him to deny everything, but if he truly wants to atone he should own it and admit the truth.
Next week I hope we get to see Iida and Uraraka, I missed them during this chapter.
-
Bakudeku fans are having their fanfics cliches turned into canon lol.
I want Inko to show up and lay into All Might. Honestly how was All Might supposed to keep that promise? He has no power and Deku is still far off from not wrecking himself. And now that stronger villains are out he's gonna be hurt even more often.
I wonder who the mystery person at Todoroki's door is. Rei maybe?
-
Can bakugou really kill people who die?
-
I'm loving Dr. Yoshi.
-
spinner is really helping destroy the country because shigaraki is a gamer lmao
-
Will that lizard guy EVER leave the bad guys he clearly doesn't want to follow?
-
Loved getting Shouto's thoughts on the situation.
Pretty good stuff from him, hopefully this finally gives him a route back into the main focus. Also liked seeing Bakugo show concerns in his own way.
-
Spinner has to be the biggest tool in the series. He is fine following Shigaraki who was always a follower of Shigaraki Sr. but he is against following Sr. directly… There is having principles and there is just being a dumbass. It is all too hard for his reptilian brain to grasp.
-
Spinner is now my favorite LOV. Gamer respect.
Who is Bakugo calling Senpai? Nejire? Also kinda amused me he didn't mention Iida.
-
Will that lizard guy EVER leave the bad guys he clearly doesn't want to follow?
But then who is he gonna play GTA with?

Vigilantes 94 Talk
Confirmation O'Clock was the one who found AFO for All Might the first time they fought, nice. We might then see O'Clock in the main series if they give us that flashback. The way Kurogiri was talking about Overclock's mental functionality makes me think AFO wanted the quirk as a way to prevent Quirk Singularity. But, with him being injured by All Might, he instead gave the quirk to No. 6 to test it's limits. It sucks Tanuma died but I guess it makes sense since no one knew AFO was back until later in the main series. As for No. 6 talking to "Ghost" O'Clock, I see it as a sign he's more and more going crazy. His obsession to be O'Clock will be the death of him. Especially, when he's forced to admit The Crawler is faster than him.
My Hero Academia Talk
I love AFO breaking out tons of villains from multiple prisons. A very smart move. Still no Kurogiri or Stain though. Hmm…
The Re-Destro Clone attacking the Hero Safety Commission was jarring. What exactly was his goal there? Killing the Chairwoman?Thank goodness it was only a 2 day time skip. I really want to see them hold a funeral for Midnight and the other teacher/mentor heroes. I'm guessing Rei is visiting Shoto too. Maybe she snuck out the hospital.
Like someone else said, I want to see Momma Midoriya's reaction to Deku's getting injured again. At this point, Deku needs to come clean with her about inheriting OFA.
-

Stain I could see becoming something of a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" role here, because while he hated the current hero system, he wasn't killing for the fun of it and wasn't trying to support villains either. Since Deku and All Might are the only ones he respects, he might help if they asked. Gentle, if he hasn't been released yet, could also be an ally.
-
So was there just nobody at that one jail worth freeing or did that one actually manage to repel them? It says that they broke people out of six of the seven that were attacked.

He killed that one Nomu that went after Deku; he still has some hero instincts in there somewhere.

OH! I didn't think about the less evil villains showing up again because of all this. This changes the whole chapter for me.

If AFO was just breaking people out just to sow chaos then I guess they were repelled. Maybe that's the prison Rappa, Gentle and La Brava were at.

About that, I thought the safety comission tried to set a trap for Redestro with a deal for support equipment, but they underestimated the guy and the plan backfired badly.
-
Gentle and Stain tag team would be fun

Yeah, that's what CCC said on Twitter. Basically, the real Re-Destro hung out at Gunga while the clone went to a regular hospital and did the CEO thing.

Summary
In Conclusion, what is the role of capitalism in My Hero and how does it serve the thematics and narrative and what is the author Kohei Horikoshi trying to say about society? Or more specifically what is he trying to say about capitalistic society or its intersection in heroism?
• The commercialization of heroes has drawn in figures who traditionally would not have the role of a hero
• Media sews social unrest and misinforms the public for the sake of clicks and watch time in the sake of profit and publicity.
• By structuring the ranking system as it is with popularity being a significant variable the neighborhoods who need the most protection(Twices) receive less attention and less heroes while more popular and business healthy areas receive the most heroes(i.e Deku’s).
• Those socially and economically disadvantaged are faced with larger pressures to be driven into crime and are more ripe for exploitation by governments like the commission or other older experienced villains such as the Yakuza and All for One.- Capitalism has turned heroes students and villains into products all with their own influence, merch, skills, and image to sell
- Those disadvantaged by the system are gaslighted into believing they are naturally evil or their quirks are rather than the consequence of an apathetic system that seemingly has no safety net for poverty.
- All Might’s image as treated by capitalism has locked away entire income brackets from even receiving a representation of his presence.
- The villains seen in the series can be argued as anti market Ouji Harima stealing from the rich heroes and redistributing to the poor, Gentle exposing predatory business practices such as a grocery store covering up the labels of expired milk, as well as the villains typically coming from marginalized backgrounds adding to such framing of opposition of the status quo which does inform value on wealth.

I can't get over the fact that Wash ended being more heroic that the grandpa samurai, even more considering that the first was introduced as the hero of a commercial. On one side, retiring now sure seems cowardly, but on the other side the guy looks pretty old so he must have been heroing since before All Might´s era, bad timing for sure though.
My favorite part of the chapter was the little bit with the Nomus saying "ME?", it´s amazing how creepy and yet cute the original Nomu is, they should have made plushies of him.
About the Endeavor´s part, I will put in on a spoiler since it´s a little lenghty:
! I hope Rei doesn´t make it easy for him. For me, as I have said too many times, the whole Endeavor´s thing will only work if Enji owns his sins and keeps trying to atone even if his family don´t forgive him in the end. Like I can imagine Fuyumi still wanting to be a part of his life and Shoto wanting his advice on a proffesional basis, but Rei and Natsuo should be able of not wanting him on their lifes. The core message should end being "People can change, but you are allowed to not forgive them and if the person that wronged you doesn´t accept that, they haven´t changed"
! Also hoping for an eventual Dabi´s redemption, since having the abuser atone without giving the same treatment to the victim would let me with a bad taste in my mouth. So I hope it doesn´t end with Toya being irredeemable or with him dying to atone. -

! The fact that Rei, that had a mental breakdown a burned her son face, is institutionalized for treatment still brought up the apparent flowers Enji still sends her - the flowers of their dating days - and in kinda found of those screams in the other direction.
And I don't think any villain will be redeemed. As per the lengthy analysis I found on reddit and posted above, it would be bad for the status quo if we reformed villains or treated the causes that create villains would be a bad comercial practice. Also, every time Hori tried to play grey morality we ended up with blue-and-orange moralities instead.
The only one that I can see redeemed are Gentle and La Brava, an they are only villains in their universe for unlawful use of quirk. -
I see you used your time well while the forum was down. Yikes, that took way too long to finish, but I have to thank you for a good read.
-
Not mine, found on reddit. I'm not like Arthur to write a 30+ pages on why Miku would win. Only to lose to the guy that wrote a 40 pages on why Yotsuba would win.
Added the link to the original post in the tl;dr part. -
Was that Stain I saw there?
-
I don't think Horikoshi is trying to tackle any real world socioeconomics problematics. At least not by purpose.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Was that Stain I saw there?
Pretty much. I have a feeling he is gonna go anti-hero from now on cause going after heroes at this point is kicking a dead horse.
-
^ I agree. I can see Stain going back to his vigilante ways (My Hero Vigilantes chapters 9, 10, & 11). Especially, after Toshinori had a talk with him off-screen.
-
Stain seem to have swam out of Tartarus, so he didn't joined AFOs group escape.
He's going back to his Stendhal days. -
Almost forgot, looking foward to see All Might´s reaction to all of this, it´s a lot to take in.

! About the villains, dunno, I can see Toga, Spinner and even Tomura getting it. For irredeemable villains we already have Muscular, Moonfish and most of the Liberation army. That said, I can´t imagine a scenario where Tomura survives his redemption. -
MHA301 spoiler
!

Pretty much. I have a feeling he is gonna go anti-hero from now on cause going after heroes at this point is kicking a dead horse.
Yeah, I figure the lines might get blurred for many actors on both sides. Former villains or "villains" seeing how bad things are about to get and turning around, heroes being disappointed with the system and doing whatever they want… At least I hope Hori plays with his characters a little. The potential is there, as long as he doesn't complicate things too much.
-
Stain's a dogmatic idiot so honestly I expect him to start going after the heroes who quit because they didn't throw themselves off a tall building as penance.
-
With the Todoroki drama which hopefully is paused after this chapter
! Folks I see still keep trying to compare Touya's situation to real, but also forgetting the real life cultural differences too. So many people are like "Why didn't he get therapy?" That's not really something that's ever brought up in manga when it's clearly needed, and last I heard not something irl Japan does a whole lot of.
! At any rate. Right now is a great time for Todorki fans. I'm still not sure why I can't give 2 shots about Dabi. As someone that tends to like villain types created by jacked up families (Gaara). I can't figure out why I don't care at all.
! They're getting all the backstory and whatnots. Meanwhile I'm just waiting for the much needed Deku, Inko, All Might, Bakugo stuff. -

! The last page seems to indicate that chapter 302 will finish the flashback.
Therapy was brought up in Toga backstory and them never further explained, and this is a Japanese society even if imaginary one, people are shamed for seeking mental health treatments. -
I. AM. FUCKING. TIRED. OF. THE TODOROKI FAMILY DRAMA.
Please please, lets move on.
I just don't care. Dabi is a minor villain. He will never become significant. Lets do something else.
Build up the world more. The author has opened up such a fascinating story aspect but now he's forcing us to sit through another fucking todoroki origin story.
Please, just build up on a society disulliosoned with heroes and how that affects society.
I want to see a plot based on Hero Cancel Culture.
I want to see the effects of Shigaraki and Stains goal of exposing the heroes hyporcricy.
I want to see the heroes trying to show the public why heroes are heroes and what it means to be a hero.
I don't want.to see. more. family drama.
