American Politics: A Brand New Day

Again, the pardons are all expected, but okay ultimately as it removes the fifth ammendment rights on all of them. When they're called back in, they either flip on trump, or they get new prison sentences for not working with the law even longer than the old ones..
It's a huge injustice but mostly Trump hasn't fully thought through the plot. He's rewarding them for not selling him out while he was in power. But they're going to crime again, immediately, and be caught, immediately. It's a very short reprieve for all of them.
In some cases they'd probably have been better off riding out their already minimal sentences.
If he'd won the election and was going to hold untouchable status for another 4 year-life, it'd be one thing, but… court cases are going to come down hard and fast in January.
-
You know maybe Pelosi should refuse to seat those newly elected Republicans attempting to help Trump.
-
As soon as Trump made it clear he supported the $2000 check increase, thus giving them leverage House Democrats including Pelosi put aside all their (Still very correct)"Trump Bad" messaging and fast-tracked an amendment to get it increased ASAP, got it voted on and passed in the House only for McConnell to kill it in the Senate.
I can't wait to see all the Leftist takes about how this is all Pelosi's fault because she's an out of touch Neo-Liberal shill who doesn't understand what the working class needs and should have fought harder yada yada.
-
I’ve been on Twitter and by and large McConnell is rightfully taking the all heat with their being some debate how in spite of his low approval rating how guy won his reelection bid by a large margin.
Granted they’re are probably some “both sides” bullshit somewhere around there but most people seem to have a clue.
-
Yeah Mitch is rightfully getting the blame here. Sure you have a few "leftist" or "progressive" bad faith grifters still trying to say "actually both sides are bad but mostly the Democrats!" but they are getting rightfully not listened to.
I think it helps that it was Bernie who brought it to the floor. That thing people think any Democrat can do to at least get the GOP to vote on it for the record and then….. yeah Mitch put an end to that.
-
I've also seen a lot of people calling Trump a coward for giving in.
-
It's a war right now betweeen Trump and McConnel for who gets to lead the party for the next four years. Even out of office Trump can twitter his agenda.
McConnel is probably going to win the war between them but ugh, we're screwed either way.
Hopefully Georgia saves us all in a couple days but I'm not pinning too many hopes on it.
-
Poor Legal Eagle just cannot take it:

The thing is Trump is too lazy to fight a war. If he wanted he could just say to his supporters not to vote in the runoffs but he won't do that. Too much of a whiny coward to ever do anything at all towards Mitch.
And Trump is just another president to Mitch, they come and go. While Mitch might be unliked by well, everyone, he has already won this battle.
The GA races are anyone's game right now. Best case is Warnock wins by a good amount and Ossoff wins by the skin of his teeth in the days it takes to count the vote.
-
The GOP is probably going to raise an official objection on the 6th meaning even then this won't be over, there are going to be hearings.
I figured it out. The pandemic and the lockdown hasn't been real. The virus is a lot deadlier than originally believed and it just instantly killed all of us at roughly the same time, and we have been in hell ever since.
-
At this point is more like "oh look at me I'm a Trump man, vote for me in 2022" than anything else.
-
For a tiny bit of nice news, I'm very proud of my state right now. Massachusetts understands abortion laws:

Very nice news. And I hope that veto can convince people that Baker is still GOP scum.
-
He's not as bad as most of the GOP, but yes, he's still conservative.
-
We got Hogan here in Maryland so I get you.

So, it is going to be very ugly now that even Pence is in the loop, no?
Is a coup really possible by Trump ? -
So, it is going to be very ugly now that even Pence is in the loop, no?
Is a coup really possible by Trump ?At this point it's technically possible, but functionally impossible. They CAN raise an objection and they can put it to a vote and enough people in congress could theoretically vote to throw out the totals, but that would A: Only accomplish making Pelosi president temporarily while they figure out what to do about the totals (recount? New Election?) and B: Won't happen anyway since the Senate AND House would both need to vote in favor of it for it to go forward, and they ABSOLUTELY won't get enough votes in the Democrat Majority House for that, plus several Senate Republicans have said they'd vote against it too.
At this point it's political theater intended to win favor with Trump. Some of them probably want pardons from him on his way out while the rest want to make him as happy as possible because while he won't be President anymore on Jan 20th, his rabid base who LOVE him more than anything now make up a surprisingly large chunk of the party.
They want to be able to tell Trump and by extension his loyal base that they tried everything they could to keep him in power so that he and they stay happy with the rest of the GOP and don't try to make their own party or something.
If the GOP fractured into the regular Republicans and the Trumpublicans, they'd never win an election again because separately they wouldn't have the numbers.
Hell, it's already kindof become a problem for them as some Trumpublicans have publicly called for boycotts of the Georgia Runoffs because they "Didn't fight hard enough" for Trump.
Also: Trump has been caught on tape trying to pressure Georgia's Secretary of State into just saying they "Recalculated" and to "Find" more votes for Trump and say he won.
HOW CAN THEY KEEP SAYING THEY'RE THE GOOD GUYS!?!?!
-
During their conversation, Trump issued a vague threat to both Raffensperger and Ryan Germany, the secretary of state’s general counsel, suggesting that if they don’t find that thousands of ballots in Fulton County have been illegally destroyed to block investigators — an allegation for which there is no evidence — they would be subject to criminal liability.
“That’s a criminal offense,” he said. “And you can’t let that happen. That’s a big risk to you and to Ryan, your lawyer.”
Well far be it for Trump to accuse someone of destroying important documents that they're not supposed to.
“Oh this isn’t social media,” Trump retorted. “This is Trump media. It’s not social media. It’s really not. It’s not social media. I don’t care about social media. I couldn’t care less.”
-
Man, Trumpy is just continuing to embarrassing himself.
-
Dumbass is getting more and more desperate as the days count down.
-
17 more days of this shit.
Of course, that's not counting whatever shit he'll do once he's out of office.
-
"couldn't care less"
as if he won't be seething come january 20th when everyone is making "goodbye trump" memes on twitter -
Been watching lots of memes of Ted Cruz, whatever he's trying to accomplish now by pissing on his own integrity(?)
-
Dumbass is getting more and more desperate as the days count down.
At this point, perhaps he is calculating and trying to immune himself from prosecution after he leaves the office. With the solid fanbase he has gathered, he may think even Dem won't dare to rattle him too much for the fear of backlash and GOP won't dare to ignore him. He is perhaps more schrewed than most of us give him credit for.
-
I doubt he is, but the people around him can be.
-
Yeah! Some people are surely feeding him the strategy, but he himself certainly got the idea of the evil.
-

What integrity ?

If Trump had a competent lawyer, this is what they'd say:
-
I'm just glad that its all over and that he will pay for all his crimes…right? RIGHT!?
-
Dunno, it's gonna be one big mess either way. And I hate to say it but we've got more important things on our plate, mostly everything COVID-related.
If Trump had a competent lawyer, this is what they'd say:
That would require a lawyer with MORALS.
-
I'm just glad that its all over and that he will pay for all his crimes…right? RIGHT!?
I don't know ask Susan Collins like most of twitter did yesterday.

After a holiday break, What the Fuck Just Happened Today is back: https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2021/01/04/day-1446/
[h=1]Day 1446: "No way."[/h]
! 1/ Trump pressured Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” him enough votes to overturn the state’s presidential election results. Trump told Brad Raffensperger in an hourlong phone call, which also included Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and legal advisers, “We have won the election in Georgia based on all of this. And there’s nothing wrong with saying that, Brad.” Raffensperger pushed back, telling Trump “the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong.” Trump, however, continued to push his debunked theories of election fraud, like “stuffed ballot boxes,” and, at one point said: “So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.” Trump later added: “So what are we going to do here, folks? I only need 11,000 votes. Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break.” At one point, Trump warned that Raffensperger was taking “a big risk” by not pursuing his false claims and threatened him with “a criminal offense.” Throughout the call, Trump repeated that “There’s no way I lost Georgia […] There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes.” Trump lost to Biden by 11,779 votes. Since the election, there have been 18 attempted calls from the White House to the Georgia secretary of state’s office. - All 10 living former Defense secretaries said the “time for questioning the results” of the 2020 election has passed and warned that involving the U.S. military in election disputes would take the country into “dangerous” territory. (Washington Post / Axios)
! 2/ Trump’s call to Georgia’s secretary of state may have violated laws that prohibit interference in federal or state elections. Brad Raffensperger said that while it was unlikely his office would open an investigation into the call with Trump, he suggested that a criminal probe could still be launched by an Atlanta-area district attorney. Raffensperger added, “I understand that the Fulton County district attorney wants to look at it. Maybe that’s the appropriate venue for it to go.” A pair of House Democrats, meanwhile, asked FBI Director Christopher Wray to open a criminal probe, believing that Trump “engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes.” (New York Times / Politico / NBC News / The Guardian / NPR)
3/ A top election official in Georgia accused Trump’s legal team of “intentionally misleading” voters about voter fraud. In a press conference, Gabriel Sterling, a Georgia voting system implementation manager, systematically refuted Trump’s already-debunked claims of voter fraud, saying “This is all easily, provably false. Yet the president persists, and by doing so undermines Georgians’ faith in the election system.” Sterling added: “It was intentional, it was obvious, and anybody watching this knows that.” (USA Today / New York Times)
4/ A group of at least 11 Republican senators and senators-elect plan to challenge Biden’s Electoral College win on Jan. 6, calling for an “emergency 10-day audit” to investigate Trump’s numerous unfounded election fraud claims. The senators – led by Ted Cruz – provided no evidence, but cited unsubstantiated allegations of fraud and said they intend “to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified.’” The same claims have been repeatedly rejected by courts. The new Congress will meet Wednesday to formally count the Electoral College votes. Pence, as the president of the senate, will preside over the joint session and signaled support for the effort to vote against certification. ! 5/ Covid-19 cases in the United States eclipsed 20 million as Trump falsely tweeted that the coronavirus cases and deaths are “exaggerated.” Dr. Anthony Fauci pushed back on the claim, saying “The numbers are real. We have well over 300,000 deaths. We are averaging two to three thousand deaths per day.” U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams also contradicted Trump’s claim, saying there is “no reason to doubt” the CDC’s Covid-19 death toll. The nation reported more than 210,000 new cases for Sunday as hospitalizations hit a record-high 125,544. (Politico / NBC News / CNN / NPR / ABC News / Wall Street Journal)

! [h=3]️ Notables.[/h]
! 1. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office retained a forensic accounting specialists to help with its criminal investigation of Trump and his business. The investigation was opened in 2018 to examine the alleged hush-money payments made to two women who claimed to have had affairs with him years earlier, but has since expanded to include the Trump Organization’s activities more broadly. (Washington Post)- The Senate voted to override Trump’s veto of the $741 billion defense authorization bill – the first successful veto override of Trump’s presidency. Good luck on the election tomorrow, let's hope you guys can kick Mitch of his comfy position.
And even greater luck in the legal hunt for Trump after the 20th.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh the shame, Ivanka invited the US boot licker their son of Bolsonaro to the White House and running he came (probably literally and figuratively)

Is he coming here to hide?

REMINDER ABOUT THE GEORGIA ELECTION
What happened during the presidential election will be what happens here. Mail in votes will not be counted at the same time as in-person votes, and mail-in is going to heavily favor dems while walks ins will be mostly reps… and I'm actually not entirely sure which Georgia is doing first.
So we are probably NOT going to know the results tonight, and might not for a week. But one side or the other might have a healthy looking lead tonight only to lose it tomorrow.
This one is too close to call, I have no idea which way it'll swing, but it'll be close. Just, whatever is announced tonight, don't get too excited OR too upset, wait a few days before we feel the appropriate emotions to feel about taking or not taking back the senate..
-
Looks like Scotland doesn't want Trumpy ether.
-
The closer it gets, the more it looks like really the only place Trump can escape to is Russia. Or to hole himself up in Trump Tower. Although I'm sure there are plenty of New Yorkers who don't want to see his fat ass either.
-
Republicans in Pennsylvania won’t seat a democrat who won their election because his opponent won’t concede
-
How easy it must be to be a republican. To not have to worry about such petty things as honesty, integrity, morality, or reality. If you lose an election, just say "no you." and you never have to accept reality. It's starting to get exhausting hearing about all these delusional losers.
-
Well…Gerogia numbers are looking good.
-
Yeah I heard the reminder Robby buuuuuuuuuuuut things are looking good where it counts for Ossoff and Warnock.
-

Maybe we could gas him out?
-
Entomb him, seal him in the apartment, cut away electricity and water, and done.
People always bring up "eat the rich", but in order for things to become popular, the rich has to do it first.

Warnock has won his runoff.
-
Joe Manchin having the night of his life right now.

Where are you guys seeing good numbers for the dems? They're behind from what I can see.

@The:
Where are you guys seeing good numbers for the dems? They're behind from what I can see.
They haven't counted the major Dem strongholds yet. The NYT needle has Ossoff at 78% and Warnock at 92%.
