Wonder when daredevil is going to get salvaged

The first one was never officially part of the universe though. It goes into the same category as the 70's Hulk,
Does it though considering how they brought back Lou Ferrigno?

Wonder when daredevil is going to get salvaged
They can't start any projects using him until at least a year from now as per the Netflix deal saying they can't use these characters until two years after their shows end.
-

Given that he's actually uncredited in all the films, from Avengers to Thor 3, that he only has a couple lines in those (Until Ragnarok anyway), its basically on the level of getting Frank Welker in to do animal sounds. Its kind of the same as reusing a classic sound effect and you use what works.
Beyond that its basically like the Stan Lee cameos. Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill have a cameo in SUperman 1978, because they were the first actors to play SUperman and Lois. That's in there as a cute shout out to the fans, acknowledging what came before, but it doesn't instantly tie them together as continuity. Same way it doesn't mean the Stan Lee cameos make Mallrats and Princes Diaries a part of the Marvel U.
-
I still wish they would take another crack at a (good) solo Hulk film. I mean, I would've thought enough good will towards Ruffalo would've been built up by now.

Unless they cleverly use the Mike Murdoch loophole.
Here is where the worst comic book arc of all time pays off

It's apparently mostly an issue with Universal still having the distribution rights. Disney would have to do all the funding for the film, and then share the profits with Universal.
Whereas if they just put Hulk in other movies as a co-star, they don't have to do that. He seems to work better with split screentime anyway.
Also Hulk is still by far the lowest earning of all the Marvel films. 263 million worldwide. One done now might do better but… it also might not.
-
The Hulk is an incredibly boring character on his own, he just tries to isolate himself to stop his rampages and eventually his past catches up with him, the military finds him, comes for him, he loses control, becomes the Hulk, Rampages, effortlessly beats everyone, then runs away again, rinse and repeat
The only time I remember anything remotely different was Planet Hulk, but they basically already did that with Thor Ragnarok

The best Hulk stories are the ones that embrace super weird sci-fi. Planet Hulk is a perfect example.
Other notable ones include Future Imperfect, where Professor Hulk gets transported to a future where an evil old version of himself called Maestro killed all Marvel heroes and rules the world. And there is the current Immortal Hulk run where Bruce Banner now transform into the Hulk at night time like a werewolf but the Hulk is a deviously intelligent split personality like Mr. Hyde.
The only good Hulk story that uses the generic "military chases down Hulk" story template is probably the Ultimate Destruction video game. And even that has weird cool stuff like a new Devil Hulk personality emerging inside Bruce's mind threatening to take control. And the Abomination is an intimidating yet tragic character for once.

MCU Madness tournament to determine the champion movie of the Infinity Saga, for anyone interested in participating: https://thedirect.com/article/mcu-madness-a-tournament-to-determine-the-champion-of-the-infinity-saga
The voting is still going on, but here's who's winning so far in the first-round brackets:
Doctor Strange v The Incredible Hulk: Dr. Strange is winning with 95% of the votes (I also voted for Dr. Strange)
Spider-Man: Homecoming v Captain Marvel: Homecoming winning w/ 80% of votes (I voted for Captain Marvel)
Spider-Man: Far From Home v Captain America: The First Avenger: Far From Home w/ 63% (voted Far From Home)
Avengers: Age of Ultron v Thor: The Dark World: Age of Ultron w/ 94% (voted Age of Ultron)
Black Panther v Thor: Black Panther w/ 83% (voted Black Panther)
Iron Man 3 v Iron Man 2: IM 3 w/ 69% (voted IM 3)
Ant-Man v Ant Man and The Wasp: Ant-Man w/ 59% (voted Ant-Man & Wasp)So yeah, right now, I agree with most of the choices that are winning; I preferred the second Ant-Man but liked them both, so I don't have super strong feelings about it if the first one wins. But while I certainly do like Homecoming, I'm disappointed that Captain Marvel is losing by so much. Really, I don't think it should have been that low of a seed to begin with, which gave it stiff competition.
-
I don't love Captain Marvel, but for some reason, i can watch it like 3 times in a row w/o an issue. I'd pick Homecoming over it tho. Fury makes MCU movies better, Part of the reason I love Winter Soldier.
Strange over IH easily. Cap 1 is tied for worst MCU movie with Thor 2 for me. FFH not even that decent really. It wins over Cap 1 tho. Any of the team up movies vs Thor 2 is unfair. Thor 2 is the worst. BP beats Thor easily. Stark 2 is better than Stark 3. I don't dislike Stark 3 as much as most do. It's a solid film.
Ant 1 and Ant 2 are hard to judge. For most MCU movies, I remember the good parts and the bad. For these 2, I just remember having fun watching them. For Ant 2, I remember waiting years for Project G.O.L.I.A.T.H. to show up. Now i'm currently waiting for them to use this 2nd saga to use Project E.X.O.D.U.S. I'd give it to Ant 2.

It seems kinda weird to me to pit the highest rated film on the list (ignoring the 9 films that skipped the first round) against the lowest one and go from there because it makes it obvious which films are going to win.
-
My picks in that list are Hulk, Homecoming, Cap1, Avengers, Black Panther, Iron Man 3, and Ant Man 1. None of them are hard choices.

It can also lead to amazing upsets, which the website said it wondered about with Captain Marvel.

After runnning the AP character tournament for years, I can safely say part of the reason is doing that keeps the ones people are interested in the pile longer. You have to weight these things at least a little bit, you don't put every strong contender in the same bracket right off and delete half the major favorites in the first round while leaving the weakest ones wiggle room to get far by accident and make the later votes uninteresting.
It also allows for some unexpected upsets.
Captain Marvel versus Spiderman is just ouch though. She mighta done okay against the early THor movies, or been interesting against Black Panther or Strange, but of course Spidey is going to destroy.
-
My picks were Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Captain America 1, Age of Ultron, Black Panther, Iron Man 3 & Ant Man 1.

https://thedirect.com/article/1-avengers-endgame-vs-16-ant-man
Next matchup is Endgame vs Ant-Man. I liked Ant-Man 1 a lot and a lot more than most people seemed to, but Endgame is a fucking marvel of planning, action, and spectacle that probably won't be surpassed for 10 years or more. There are only 2 or 3 MCU movies I think are on its level.
-
Endgame fumbled the time heist for me. It felt like too much of a recap. Then the effects for the final war was just dark, sloppy and almost lazy. The war in Infinity War was so beautiful. I don't get how they messed up in Endgame. Overall, it was a good movie. The Ancient One and Hulk, plus Tony and his dad were the better parts of the time heist. Rudd is so underrated in the team up movies.

sniff Doctor Strange 2 won't be coming out until 2022 now:
https://movieweb.com/doctor-strange-multiverse-of-madness-release-date/?fbclid=IwAR19nEUxvh7bP6H9msAamB525Ls_WeDDa1JaAikXjKVZUXYAJa6Idvt1fycI mean, it gives Sam Raimi more time to make it more his movie, but still . . . .
-
It's kind of amazing how all these movies are now coming out years later. Consider how so many of the actors chosen for these roles are not exactly young it's amazing to me that the planning wasn't tighter for schedule. Even before COVID-19 there was a bit of an odd gap between Phase 3 and Phase 4 that I'd have expected to be filled.
-
Do you guys think that the new release dates will hold? Or will they have to delay the movies yet again? I mean I assume the studios did some research and didn't just put out random new release dates right? What are your thoughts?
-
For the business in general, no one wants to say anything final, but some are budging. They are a business and if they feel they can convince people to risk their lives for entertainment, they will do it. They might hit you with "so many people need to be paid" or "we invested so much", but anyone in common sense knows that they are asking you to fill their pockets, while putting your health at risk.
They all need to movie their dates. They have the time, so they don't have to decide now. Every film comes with a campaign full of merch, toys, commercials, fake sob stories, and tacky tales of philanthropy. They might even milk someone's death if they are connected to the film. They have a whole strategy to get people in seats and this is the perfect time to rework it.

Even before COVID-19 there was a bit of an odd gap between Phase 3 and Phase 4 that I'd have expected to be filled.
Things started sliding all the way back with Civil War in 2016. The inclusion of SPiderman proper into the Marvel U meant they had to start clearing time for him properly, so his film pushed back Black Panther which in turn pushed back Ant Man and Captain Marvel.
Black Panther and Captain Marvel were untested properties, so they didn't get greenlit until after their films came out. Thor 4 wasn't greenlit till after 3 caem out and Helmsworth said he was still up for doing more, plus now being tied to Guardians….
Guardians 3 was supposed to be out either already or soon, and would have followed Avengers 4 to then lead to Thor 4... but fake outrage about James Gunn and his new committments to Suicide Squad pushed that back. They already had a script and had started production before that got shut down.
Black Widow was supposed to be out two months ago and is now pushed to who knows when, and that pushes everything else back.
Plus Marvel has that massive TV slate that is actully most of phase 4. That Bucky and Falcon show, the Loki show, the Scartlett Witch show that has to come before Doctor Strange...
And now they own Fox so they have to figure out what to do with the X-Men and Fantastic Four...
Its just a series of dominos that Corona only made worse.
-
imagine this mess was last year and endgame was the delayed one.
-
The flood of fanboy tears would have buried this country.
-
I would have laughed so hard if Endgame had been delayed. Poor RDJ and Evans would've had to stay "in the game" for even longer.
-
Think James Cameron would've been pleased.

So if any rumors about Daredevil showing up in Spiderman 3 (as Spidey's lawyer) are true, it won't be Charlie Cox:

Why the trouble of recasting a hero actor from tv when he is bound to appear in a movie? Especially when said series is well cherished by critics and fans alike. Is because they are smaller names and won't bring enough cash for the studios?
Well the last part is stupid, this is Hollywood of course cash speaks larger than common sense. -
But the fans already love Charlie Cox, wouldn't casting him be just an even bigger theater draw?
-
There are issues between the Marvel movie slate and the marvel TV slate, they're basically different companies answering to different bosses and they don't like each other and contracts might actually be contradictory. So that's part of it.
Aside from that, the Netflix TV slate got a little more R rated in spots than the PG-13 they'd prefer. So they want to be able to pretend that branch of the tv stuff didn't happen where applicable.
Fantastic Daredevil and Kingpin, but they might be a bit much for the Marvel U as is. If they include THOSE versions then suddenly Kingpin bashing a guy's head in with a car door is officially integrated.
And while Jessica Jones was well recieved, basically none of the rest of the slate was, especially Iron Fist which was outright disliked, and carried its baggage to Defenders.. No one talked about Luke Cage outisde of "it's one of the Netflix shows", and while Punisher was fine, it came late and no one cared about that either… and also way more violent that the PG-13 films.
They'll want to be able to recast or reboot most of those properties in some way eventually... so holding those licenses ransom to a too-dark version is iffy.
Or of course they can always go the Hulk/War Machine route. Recast, and just sort of vaguely indicate what happened did happen but don't go into any details on it. The basic backstory remains intact for anyone that wants to look, but they aren't 100% beholden to it.

Is because they are smaller names and won't bring enough cash for the studios?
Nah. If anything smaller names are cheaper and don't ask for huge salaries out the gate. Plus that doesn't stop them from doing things no one has heard of like Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant Man. Consider that the entire first wave of movies they were all unknowns. No one had heard of Helmsworth or Hiddleston, and Chris Evans was small time. Johansaan was probably the best known but mostly for indie films, she certainly wasnt the super-star action film carrier she is now. Or go back to the X-Men movies, where Hugh Jackman's career was made by Wolverine.
Even headliner Robert Downey Jr. who carried the franchise on his back and managed to get by far the sweetest paycheck deals due to being there first, was a D-list past his prime actor with a history of drug addiction and jail time, made famous and popular again by Iron Man.
I know ten years later that's hard to remember, but RDJ was like fifth billed in The Shaggy Dog. His career was DEAD before Iron Man. He was the perfect choice for the role BECAUSE of his real baggage making him the character, but still he was a risk… and cheap. (At the time.)
-
First half of Luke Cage was great, until Cottonmouth got got.

I thought people liked Luke Cage. I certainly remember hearing lots of praise about it. Iron Fist . . . . ruined all the potential it had.

What better way to method act for a character than to be an actual alcoholic and drug addict? Seriously, it's like he spent his life preparing for Iron Man.
-
Yeah Luke Cage was very well regarded. The Netflix series basically went 3 for 4 on the starting series.
The real issue with the Netflix shows is that the Marvel movie and TV division actually split back in 2014/2015 right as Daredevil and Jessica Jones took off. It's why Agents of SHIELD went it's own direction away from the movie continuity. Marvel Studios had it's own jurisdiction over its film content but Marvel TV still had to answer to Marvel Entertainment, who infamously opposed Black Panther and Captain Marvel films for not being bankable. Probably what happened is the hoops they had to go through werent worth the cost and headache to deal with Marvel Entertainment, and the shows were likely abandoned when Marvel Studios started it's own TV wing. I'm wondering if rights and contract issues might be making things the way they are.
-
I thought people liked Luke Cage.
People liked it, and it didn't make anyone angry… but they didn't love it either. It was a "I guess I'll watch the third marvel show" sort of thing, but no one was excited about it or talked about it like Daredevil or Jessica Jones.
That may just have been a side effect of it being in the timetable where it was and Iron FIst immediately following, I dunno.

Black people loved it. I cosplayed as Luke (pretty lazily, might I add) at a convention and got lots of love.
-
I loved Luke Cage and was anticipating S3 Crime Boss Luke. Bushmaster and the Stokes conflict was well written. Iron Fist was just a let down. In the end, Jessica Jones season S2 was the best season of any of the shows.
5 Iron Fist S1>>S2
4 Luke Cage S2>>S1
3 Punisher S2>S1
2 JJ S2>>S3>>S1
1 Daredevil S3>>S2>S1 -
I just remember sitting through all of Daredevil Season 1 thinking: "Put on the red suit already!"

Happy Black Widow day :ninja:

Would have rather had a different one like the Eternals come out first anyway.
-
Why not one of them has to eat shit and potentially underperform.

Sony hired S.J. Clarkson to direct Jackpot. Marc (comic book writer, Arrow and Legends co-showrunner) is writing the film. Sony had a Black Cat and Silver Sable that ended up becoming a tv show that is still in development. Spike Lee dropped Nightwatch last year. Madame Webb is in limbo.
Sony says she will be part of their Universe like Morbius, Venom and the Richard Wenk written Kraven. It wasn't specified if Sara Ehret or Alana would be the Jackpot for this film.
Lil summary on Jackpot -
! Sara is a mother and scientist who worked for a subsidiary of Oscorp. She works towards a cure for Parkinsons, but is exposed to a virus that puts her in a coma and when she wakes up after some months, she has powers. She isn't into being a hero and wants a family life.
! The 2nd Jackpot is Alana. She has a crush on Sara and gets close enough to ask for her identity. Sara, who wants to just be a mother, agrees to hand her Jackpot mantle to Alana, blah blah blah -

What did you guys think about Quicksilver dying so early in the movies?
I personally hated it, I used to read lots of the classic and newer Avengers stuff when I was a kid, I think I was 13 when I started reading issue to issue when they came out (I know this cause I remember reading Avengers Disassembled as my first series I really followed and I just have to google when it started )
What I’m trying to say, in a super roundabout way, is I was a huge fan Of the classic Avengers, especially Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Wonder Man and the obvious main roster characters Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hank Pym and Wasp etc
So I was bummed to see one of my fav characters who is lesser known than the other big names in the movie get killed off in his first appearance
-
The X-Men movies were already doing every trick they could do with him, so its fine.
-

To me I personally prefer Marvel Studios movies over Fox in general, I would have much rather seen Quicksilver joking around/interacting with the Avengers and having fought beside them in things like Civil War/Infinity War instead of what we got of him in Age of Apocalypse or Dark Phoenix
