@Kunt:
Yeaahhh…its kind of hard to feel empathy when the people on the opposite end have essentially rallied a hate mob to harass the author by sending him death threats, advocating hate speech and destroying any merch related to the franchise over a misconception.
志賀丸太(Shiga Maruta) in the correct context means "A round and fat man who wishes people's good future. Its matching "two-faced" evil scientist which in turn matches the kana in Maruta’s name backward you get “taruma” (タルマ) “ta” and “da” have similar phonetic symbols in the Japanese language so when changed you get “Daruma” (ダルマ) his pseudonymous first name and a daruma is an object of adepicting a bearded man that is known for giving good luck.
It was never intended to be in reference to that incident on top of the fact that it doesn't make sense or even fits with how Hori names his character. What's ironic is that the Japanese fanbase has used this explanation for days and they only got "you're not Korean/Chinese so you couldn't possibly understand". When you're dealing with people with that sort of narrow minded mentality there's literally nothing you can do.
Shuiesha has now put itself in a dangerous position where they can now bend down to the will of twitter mobs if they ever get this explosive again sacrificing the integrity of the artists in question. When Kodansha was brought up with similar allegations in regards to Attack On Titan they were much less apologetic.
I'm pretty sure their reaction is less about angry twitter mobs and more about the potential lose of a big market. There's reason they bring up Chinese people specifically in their formal apology. That's as close as they can get to wink please unban wink without outright saying it.
