FINALLY!! My boy finally got the job done. Jumping straight to GG lol.

Now Riboku and Ousen can go at it

@Purple:
The power of friendship claims its latest victim
The Will of a Great General.

Its hard to ignore that, if the whole premise was about two strategic geniuses clashing, and instead we got an endless battle with little or no sound strategy, and instead just pure strength or asspulls by both parties.
Its not even really satisfying, as both Shin and Kyoukai should have been dead by now, the way their fight was depicted. Only massive amounts of plotarmor are saving them.
While I agree that it should realistically take a lot of suspension of disbelief, I still found Houken's growing frustration and the final slash satisfying in their own. Guess I was able to ignore most of the recent "build-up" and got to enjoy the result as is. Lucky me, lol
Now that it looks like it is finally over, I do want to acknowledge that Houken did add some good to great moments to the series. Especially that time when he attacked the camp on the hill at night and initiated the chase through the woods when Bi Hei's brother died. That entire event was extremely well done in my opinion and had me on the edge the whole time. Even the fight with Shin after the battle of Sai was satisfying in its own, even if the placement was a bit awkward.
-
Sorry for not putting any effort to this but…
Pathseekers are dumb. And after these couple of chapters the only nice thing I can say is he better be dead. -
Humans at their core are animals and will forever come up with excuses to be at odds or better than the other. The few that attempt to fight those facts will end up unsuccessful at that cause and ostracized. The intention isn't dumb, but the method is. Not only in method, but the goal is unobtainable. You can have peace for 100 centuries, there will be someone who comes along to change that. It isn't sustainable or realistic.
-
I really like the idea of pathseeking, although it does seem to me unrealistic for one to sustain discipline through his lifespan for staying on the same path. Overarching goal aside, I wonder what is experience like to a pathseeker to strive for transcending humanity, how do they do it. What rituals, rules and conditions would be neccessary to keep this process on track? It'd be so easy for them to just give up on the idea. Is some another faction observing and guiding them from sidelines?
-
this fight was the worst part of the manga 0/10 glad houken's dead
-
Very interested in seeing where Kingdom goes from here? Because Zhao, Riboku and Houken have essentially been the main adversaries of the series. And their basically done at this point. If Zhao King remains true to his word? Then Riboku will die because of this Defeat. With Houken now dead, and Riboku potentially dead and at the very least there's no way he can stay in Zhao, And with Keisha dead (who was the closes to being the 3rd Heaven), Zhao is absolutely finished.
I guess Karin is the next main Antagonist in the series?
I know some history Spoilers. So I have some idea? But I wonder how Hara will handle Shin from here?
Because History Spoilers - ||The real Shin doesn't have a great time against Chu - He gets his ass kicked and several of his officers get killed. So I'm sure that will happen. But Shin has to become the Great General Of Heavens, otherwise there's no point in following his character. So I wonder how Hara will weave his version of History? Also guessing Kanki will be one of Shins biggest future wins? Because Kanki does become an Enemy of Qin.
I think what might happen? Is Shin and Kanki will have to team up again vs a Chu army, and Kanki basically fucks over Shin with one of his master plans, and that's how he'll loose so many men? But the plan will fail and the loss will cause Kanki to loose his position and he'll have to defect.||
-
From what I remember, the narrative seems like Kou En might become the "Riboku" when Chu vs Qin is established. Chu is so stacked

Reading the latest chapter…
[hide]I'm fairly sure Houken will use his parents' healing techniques to save Shin. Everything else wouldn't make any sense.
Meanwhile, Kanki's taking Gyou while chilling in his comfy chair.[/hide]
-
! Agreed, it's suspicious that mysterious healing techniques are suddenly brought up out of nowhere. But, hell NO ! The last thing I want is for Houken to get up from that cleav,e even if it means losing Shin. By every right he should have been cut in two, or at worst his upper chest is attached by a mere strip of skin. No Doflamingo-style self-healing, no inhuman thoughness, no more bullshit. Bad Houken, stay down !
! Other than that, can we at last rejoice that the Shukai Plains are over ?Also, next chapter apparently hits on January, 30. 3 Weeks break, here's to hoping we come back to a rested Hara and the return of decent storytelling.
-
The noble pathseekers trying to transcend humanity by indiscriminately murdering doctors and stealing their infants. And Houken dying was supposed to be tragic? lol
-
All I know is my girl Kyoukai better be OK, I'm good with her needing time to recover, but she better be able to recover. And she absolutely better not die. I'd actually be done with Kingdom if that happened at this point in the story.
-
! So who's gonna be new main character? Ouhon maybe. Lol.
-
En>>>Mou Ten>>Na Ki>>>Ou Hon
Just kill Heki, Fu Tei and Kaine. Story would improve a lot
-
Kill Shin. He’s got to be the lamest character of the story. I don’t think I’ve ever liked a manga like this, where I find the MC to be so bland and predictable.
-
You made it 600+ chapters where you don't like the MC? How? I couldn't do that. Shin isn't in my top 5, but I don't dislike him.
5 Ou Ki
4 Kyou Kai
3 Kanki
2 Tou
1 En -

I'm poking a fun at how ridiculous it'd be for main character to die there. Shin is one of my favourite characters in series. Though if he does indeed die, then I'll have the laugh for the second time.
-
New chapter’s out.
! and I swear I know her arc is basically over but if kyokai dies I will flip shit.
-
Yeah, thanks for the link.
First location I could find, since Sense isn't out.
-
This translation is kind of garbage.
-
It's out now on Sense anyway.
-
For me, it's simple.
! If Kyoukai dies in exchange for Shin's life, I drop. I'm just not interested in reading any further! It's simple.
-
Wow, guess the manga's over now that Shin is dead, huh. Way for it to end.
-
It's weird people give Houken shit but love Kyoukai when she's essential a female version of him.
-
Lol, no she's not.
But you got my attention.
-
Oh no Kyoukai, don't you dare …
-
Throughout the manga, Houken has really only shown one type of face: an aggressive one at whatever is in front of him. There have been varying degrees of it, from stoney resting bitch-face to noisy horse scarer, but it's the same regardless. If there's been anything else (I think he may have expressed surprise once or twice) it's been brief and unimportant enought to stick in the memory.
Kyoukai wins if only through the fact that she's shown to be capable to react to situations in at least different ways (like most characters).
-
I really hope that what i am fearing won't come to pass.
-
I'm kind of liking the gigi guy. maybe he can be the new MC :ninja:
-
Is it coming? Is Kyokai going to inherit Shin's will and become next main character? Find out in the next episode of Heki Adventures!
-
At this point it's better if Kyoukai becomes the main character rather than revive him.
-
historical spoiler
! Kyokai is a real person, which will still be active in the future, so she wont die here
But men, this is exactly what this arc needed, even more filler chapters. At least two for the Shin drama, maybe another one or two for the aftermath of the battle and then we have to go to Gyou, the actual goal of the last hundred chapters or so, so this arc wont end anytime soon.
-
@Purple:
Wow, guess the manga's over now that Shin is dead, huh. Way for it to end.
I can't wait for the sequel.
-
If Kyou Kai dies before Heki and Kaine…
-
I would say I don't like where this is going, but it's been a while since I've genuinely liked anyhting about that arc anyway.
If Shin really must get back up, I could get behind the notion that Kyokai, with her mastery of battle trance and such, somehow has medical knowledge befitting his specific state. But after all this cheap drama (and horrible slow pacing, to think I was frustrated with the mountain tribes' battle before), I'm not expecting a very pleasant way out.
-
I am in total disbelief in how I went from hooked to cold on this manga in the span of well more or less one arc
-
The feeling's shared. I was hyped as hell when the arc begun ; the food supply chains, the locusts strategy, Kanki sieging a city, even the infiltrators… It was all so full of promise, but instead we got Houken. Bleh.
-
Spoilers for the next chapter are out
! And impressively, somehow Hara managed to make everything even worse. What the hell is she doing?
-
Can anybody tell me what has happened in this manga?
The last chapter I read were Shin and co fighting and there was no more food.
-

Do yourself a favor: consider they all starved to death, the manga is over and you can drop it there. :ninja:
! If however you really want to inflict the rest of the arc on yourself :
! - Qin Right fought on an empty stomach far longer than they should have (I think they went on for three full days past the point where food shortage was supposedly the end of everything).- At some point, A Monster Appears! Houken teleported inside the Qin camp at night, slayed some random guys and was lightly wounded in return. That had absolutely no consequences whatsoever.
- Thanks to the power of Bullshit Asspul , Qin Right were able on the very last last last day to power up, break through the Zhao Left and slay general Whatshisnamewiththesnakehelm.
- With Zhao Left retreating, they pushed forward to pincer Zhao Mid.
- Ribook and Ousen did some strategy that was sooooo complex and out of this world that it looked like they were just marching at each other and having a brawl. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened. Speak of geniuses.
- Insert here more uninteresting moves. Zhao General BigFace tries to kill Karyo Ten (hey, that makes one person who thought she was useful), but the archer brothers kill him. Possibly the sole redeeming moment of this whole mess.
- Eventually it seemed like Ribook would get caught.
- But A Monster Appears! Again !! Houken teleported in the melee and saved his ass. Bits of Qin soldiers including a few from the Hi Shin flew left and right.
- Some chapters wasted on exposition about Houken
- Kyoukai fought back valiantly but was eventually defeated. Somehow not dead, though.
- Shin took the next round. Thanks to the power of More Bullshit Asspull, he eventually cleaved Houken in two.
- Meanwhile the entire battlefield froze as soldiers of every army apparently dropped their weapons and grabbed some beer and popcorn to enjoy the show.
- A couple chapters of bullshit drama because Yay Houken is dead but Oh Noes, apparently Shin died of over-exerting himself.
! - Tune in next week (or not) to learn how the power of Even More Bullshit Asspull will return Shin from the dead.
-

Same. Houken's random appearances always sucked the air out of the room. And his appearance in the latest arc has really beaten down by waning interest in the series. I'll give it another chapter but if I see another character die to that idiotic character, be it directly or indirectly, I'm out.
-
Seems like Kyoukai will lose her breathing tech as an exchange. That's the only way. It would also nerf her forever, so it should be fair.
-
For me, it's simple.
! If Kyoukai dies in exchange for Shin's life, I drop. I'm just not interested in reading any further! It's simple.
new chapters out.
! shit shit shit shit. Shes gonna die. Wtf.
-
Ok, that does it, I'm at a loss for words. How come manga authors so often spiral from an engaging story down to the purgatory of shonen mediocrity ? Is it the workload imposed by weekly publication that burns them out ? Do editors encourage them to play it safe by applying the same old recipes time and again ? Pressure to not get the axe that makes them lose sight of what they wanted to do in the first place ? I think Bakuman touched that subject a bit, but it sends chills down my spine to see it happen again and again with almost every series that I pick up.
