Good riddance. To bad a great newsman had to die with that creep.

Anyone able to translate Kuma's fav food? Considering his character, something like that interests me.

I miss Absy. He was one of my favorite meme characters.

Honey and salmon.

Didn't they say the exact same thing about Sabo?

Since when has someone lost their DF power and survived?

Remember the times when Monet was alive and was going to join. Good ol’ days.
If whenever we get to the Dofla pirates/Ceaser cover stories and she's nowhere in that, she can officially be dead. But until then her death served no long term story purpose that fainting wouldn't, so she's fine.
Not joining the crew, but she can go off and open a pet shop or be a fireman or something, whatever her dream was before joining with Ceaser.
Oda knows people don't believe he kills, so he's gotten better about leaving it more ambiguous for longer periods of time than he used to, which really is all he ever needed to do. If they're "dead" for a couple years that feels fine dramatically , as opposed to "dead" for 1 chapter.

Official databooks also said Sabo was dead. They're not going to spoil things that haven't been revealed in the manga yet.
Absalom is a weird case where I'm sold on him being dead, because his devil fruit passed and he was murdered off camera after not being seen for a decade, but his character design can still come back (with a less rapey personality) given his unique body and Moria's power set. And possibly a new power! One case where Oda can have his cake and eat it too.

I think Monet and Vergo straight up dying with out further propose serves to show that now we are in the Big League Pirate Games, you either win you hand or die. The yonkou’s and their crews ain’t gonna be forgiven to those that challenge them, unless it’s Shanks then a severed arm is enough.

If that were true why did Oda bring back all of smokers men who "Died" in that very same arc? Or Brown Beards men?
-
Weirdly, the Vivre Card for Pedro doesn't indicate him as dead the same way it does for Absalom. Not Sheepshead either and that guy is almost definitely dead

They didn't deserve to die to Caesar's pet.

I thought the entire point of the people dying now was that Oda was raising the stakes because the New World, all I'm saying is it feels weird that he cops out on these guys who don't even have names but not on Monet and Vergo
I don't think Monet, Vergo, Abalsom or Pedro are dead, but that's just me, I could be wrong

It’s just my opinion, it doesn’t necessarily reflects the truth. As Robby said, Oda likes to make death’s ambiguous unless they have a plot purpose in order to reuse the characters latter in matter that he seems to no waste a character.
It’s a good thing, but also a bad. I wont argue in terms of stakes and whateveys but it cheapens Shanks speech against Higuma about pirates meaning business and not bravado.

I mean no one cares if nameless fodder lives or dies, whereas it's a big deal for named characters.
Also how could you possibly believe Absalom is alive? Him and Yasu shouldn't even be questioned lol

It would if not for the fact Oda has randomly spared looooots of other characters for no reason, even in these big leagues. Including all the "for sure dead frozen to stone by poison gas" guys that the crew spent a solid volume running from. He even shattered Kinemon!
Plus one of Big Mom's kids get eaten and was then fine, completely unexplained, at the end of the arc. ANd there's a whole mess of Cake characters that are "dead" that obviously aren't going to stay dead, like Pekoms, King Baum, and all the fishmen including Jinbe, even if he wanted the arc to be a downer ending. (And if they're not dead why should Pedro stay dead?)
Bon Kurei was dead for two years until he wasn't. Sabo was dead for about four years until he wasn't. Bellamy was dead for over a decade and was the last holdout from "the period where Oda was still willing to kill people and you could believe it."
He DID pull off a convincing death for Yasuie. There was a guy whose death actually served a long term purpose, was on camera, lots of witnesses, we saw the body afterward, and immediately properly mourned, with all the emotional strings pulled you'd expect from Oda really seriously killing a character. Oda just writes differently when he means it and when he's faking it.

Hopefully, the Vinsmokes are dead.

@Johnny:
Hopefully, the Vinsmokes are dead.
Lol, not a chance. Not even the remotest slimmest possibility. Captured maybe, but not a single whiff of a chance of them being dead.
Judge still has to accept that Sanji is right, and we need to see his eyebrows.
-
Who thinks Pekoms is "dead" outside of anime-only viewers?

I'm so confused by this logic, if it's no big deal then why keep them alive
also people look waaaaaaaaaaaay to much at the, "how could someone possibly be alive!" instead of just accepting that Oda could and will make up any bullshit he wants to keep said characters alive, or just not say anything at all
seriously I'm sure if you went back in time and told people that pell didn't die when that Bomb blew up in his face, they'd laugh at you and say something like, no one can survive a direct blast from a bomb that was meant to kill millions, how could that possibly happen!
They were right, it doesn't make sense…. but it still happened
I'm sure if you went back in time and told people connis father is still alive and every single person Enel captured and said he killed....who we never even met, were still alive, people would laugh at you
but he did come back alive, and so did all those men Enel was sure he killed with BS reasoning
they were right though it didn't make sense... but it still happened
And what about all there allies in Enies Lobby, who the hell in there right mind would think of a Deus ex Machina like Pauile making such a ridiculous rope configuration to save them all, even giants, how does that even make sense?
I could go on and on, Bellamy, mr. 9 and Mrs. Monday, Igarama, the random pirate who bite off his tongue or the other random pirate who's collar exploded seriouslyit doesn't have to make sense it almost never does
it's not about how could it happens it's just
EDIT: I forgot about bon-chan, my friend thought I was so stupid for thinking he was alive

So… Many... Ex Characters...
I've updated my spreadsheet, but the full visual guide is probably a tomorrow night thing at this point. Disappointed to see the number double up, HOWEVER, I'm willing to dismiss it as a typo/misprint, assuming Arthur fits into the still-vacant 652 spot. That's where I've put him on my chart for now (indicated as speculative by an asterisk by the number) and that's what I'm sticking with until contradicted. We also have Whitebeard ally Ninth sitting way out of place as the last Ex Character for the saga, some 40 chapters after his actual appearance in the manga. Go figure.
I think the Marineford Saga in general has proved to be a challenge for the team behind the databook, with so many canon characters introduced, and so many of them being one-scene or even one-panel wonders where their faces are mostly or entirely obscured. It must have been a real trial to figure out who was shown in enough detail to count as having made an appearance. And, as is obvious at this point, characters who are SBS or databook only aren't being numbered, even if they're canon. Maybe we'll get an extra set of EX Cards at the end of the series for those types.
Interesting thing to note: the Vivre Card art for Whitebeard ally Vitan has been recoloured. His face and neck were flesh-toned in the digital colour volume, but are coloured in steel grey for his Vivre Card portrait, making him even more of a robot. Wonder if that correction came from Oda himself...
Anyway, here's the spreadsheet.

EX Characters Summit War vol 10
•Revealing the favorite foods and blood types of the Charlotte family!
•The unknown secret of Mother Carmel!!OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY!!! This booster is hand-tailored for me. I feel bad for Napoleon, though.
Sadly those should be the last ones, right? I would assume they would at least cover the Levely, but at the same time I suppose we have nearly no information about any character introduced in that arc, so better to hold them back for a while.
-
Surprise and glad for Gerth card. As for Napoleon. He almost always on top of Big Mom's head. So it is easy to include him in Big Mom's card. He also have less of a distinct personality compare to the other 2. Especially Zeus who now have his own distinct story path.
And I am more curious on what after these two packs. We will probably wait for a while. But I would love to know what cards are they retroactively including. Would like to have the remaining buster call vice admirals, Nola, and the likes.
Also characters like Thatch and Kong who are ex characters right now. Probably will have their own cards when we delve into the flashbacks of Roger and Blackbeard.
-
Got more from Prometheus and Zeus compared to Napoleon honestly. There are a lot of questions when it comes to Napoleon, so it kind of makes sense why there's no card. How can it be a radio transmitter, sword and hat? It's weakness? We've seen Zeus and Prometheus weakness and abilities, plus personality more.
What I care for,
5 - BM fam
4 - Pound
3 - Giants - Maybe something related to how Loki and the royals of Elbaf are viewed and info on Hajrudin's crew. That thing that might be a tree
2 - Germa - tech, history about 66 days of hope and 300 years that he thought BM could reverse in some way. Many don't find this interesting, but I care. Probably more on their enemy Sora and also Judge's wife… Sora.

I would put money on the two confirmed Whole Cake packs featuring Big Mom and Reiju on their covers.

Wait, where the heck are they gonna go? There's barely ten coneivable spots left, and they're spread through the saga. What's the plan here?

That's I'm thinking as well, the only open spots left are 497-499, 622-626, and 679. As I've predicted before 497-499 are likely the Macro Pirates and I'm guessing 679 is likely the bartender that was talking to Nami about the Fake Straw Hat Crew during the opening chapter for the Return to Sabaody arc.
On a different note, they did a good job choosing the image for Big Mom's card, very dynamic and it makes a good cover for what might be the last pack, assuming they don't release miscellaneous packs for characters that missed the cut or to catch up on EX and Skill cards when they inevitably release a Wano and Beasts Pirates centered packs (I assume a Levely pack will likely be Starter pack Vol 3 when they release another binder).

Since we know what image they'll be using for Big Mom it seems likely that she and Napoleon will be sharing a card. Also with Napoleon in his initial sword form hopefully they'll have enough room to include his cognac form as well.

I just realized Amande is not in the batch… I don't know if I am more disappointed at the fact she was left behind or that it took me this long to realize she was not there :/ shame! And suddenly I am sad thinking of all the completely utterly useless trivia about her I won't get in the foreseeable future...

I find it disappointing that Galette isn't get her own card, I really thought she would get one.

No one comes out and SAYS "I want this character to join cause boobs." But it is consistently, for well over a decade and dozens of characters, a repeating pattern of "I like this character and will make theories based on the tiniest on details, to fanfic a theory of why they could join", in such a way that basically never gets applied to male characters except as a joke. Also never to "ugly" girls like Lola or Shinobu.
But for years at a time literally any single panel a female character of the month is in, be it a small throwaway joke or an action beat, is then blown up and exaggerated into overwhelming proof. Even if another character had literally just as many moments or scenes, or if a more minor character is actually able to demonstrably have even more impact in a shorter time, or if there's multiple other characters with their exact same skill set and traits. Combined with a constant insistence on ignoring any and all counterpoints and well.. it gets old. SUper simple extremely straightforward non-trick questions can be asked about the character that then get avoided because actually answering them would destroy the theory. Be it Perona or Caimie or Margaritte or Hancock or Arlong's sister or Shirahoshi or Monet or Viola or Rebecce or Carrot or Tama or whatever, it is an endless streak.
The nature of the theories, and the specific non-details that are picked up on and pushed as evidence, followed by the speculation of "well if the story bent itself over backwards to accommodate this it could happen" those are really consistent and you see the pattern after a while as long as you aren't personally rooting for the character. The arguments based on their non-moments aren't compelling or convincing, just lengthy and enthusiastic. Generally when identical arguments can be made for Eyelashes the Camel the argument isn't actually that strong.
The only male characters in the last 12 years to get anywhere near the same kind of traction were Kinemon and Bart, and they had significant screen time and presence. (And Kinemon was clearly not happening the moment we saw a second Wano citizen and fully got the gag of his design, and Bart was always given equal billing with Cavendish, so that wasn't happening either.)
Compare to Jinbe who had a weird design not a lot of people liked and was seen as boring, but had an incredibly compelling and convincing argument in terms of narrative, situation, foreshadowing, and build up for him before he even appeared on camera.
No, Robby, nobody wants Carrot to join because she has boobs. Plenty of characters have boobs. You are just paranoid and can't accept that people have preferences and make theories and speculations that don't match your own. You need to grow up.
And don't act like "for years" like the resident expert in One Piece fandom here because "for years" many characters have been proposed. Heck if I have seen people seriously claim Hody Jones as a nakama, and just because you choose to ignore Bellamy, Momonosuke, Kanjuro, Raizou, Law… doesn't suddenly mean that they don't exist. And thank god you mention Bartolomeo and Kinemon at least because these were big (I've been into both xD).
I like Carrot and I root for her as nakama and you know what? It does not matter, we can speculate and theorize all we want and we can expand on the story with these speculations. And we can discuss them. But holy shit we can't have a nice debate on this fun topic because people like you keep strawmanning fans and creating enemies in every corner.
Also, Jinbe is pretty damn great. Another case of making comparisons that don't apply.
-
Hookay, visual guide time. I'm continuing to assume that Arthur is intended to be 0652, but we'll see how right that is or isn't about a month from now.
I think for numbers 497 - 499, 622 - 626 and 679, we will get them covered in the last EX card, but they'll be groups of characters. As in, the three members of the Macro Pirates and five members of the Giant Squad, all with individual names and numbers but sharing the one description. The odd amount of space this method will take up will probably be the reason they weren't included in earlier cards. 679 will be the animals that Luffy and Rayleigh trained with, collectively taking up a single number, if I had to guess.
Also, unless I've forgotten someone, we're at an even 600 characters now. Roughly half of the upper limit suggested by Stussy's number (though we should be getting a new higher number next month through Flampe).
Here's my work to date
!

It's a matter of scale. Those characters get a post here or there, usually just for a few weeks after they first appear, or as a ongoing joke like Caribou or Ceaser. Female characters get entire threads and last for months or even YEARS. Its a massive difference in levels of rabidness.
If Carrot were a boy, everyone would readily accept "too similar to Chopper" and call it a day and there'd be little or no debate.
But, she's a girl, so there's two solid years of it and thousands of posts.
But holy shit we can't have a nice debate on this fun topic because people like you keep strawmanning fans and creating enemies in every corner.
"I would like this character to join" is an entirely different beast from "I think this character will join because". If you want to debate the second thing and make theories, then those theories need to stand up to scrutiny. Same with any theory in the series from "I think Crocodile is actually a woman" to "who will be the last boss" to "what is One Piece actually?"
All those things gets the same level of scrutiny and debate. It's mostly just next crewmate where people get super personally attached to their personal idea and are less willing to listen to counterarguments.
Also, Jinbe is pretty damn great. Another case of making comparisons that don't apply.
Why is it different? Why is it unfair to compare any new candidate to old candidates who actually passed the bar? Jinbe is the most recent, and the only real case in the modern history of the forum, so he's the easiest example to go to, but we can go way back in the arhcives to Brook and Franky arguments.

I think Carrot4Nakama would still be pretty big if she was a guy. Not nearly as big as it is now, but probably Bartolomeo level or so. Almost every character that travels with the strawhats gets thrown into the discussion. You say Caesar is joke, but there were plenty of people taking it seriously when he was around. And Law was super big back in Dressrosa despite all the glaring issues with that.
Anyway, imo people wanting another girl on the crew is a perfectly fine hope/expectation, considering the gender ratio. Because that little fact alone just makes a character distinct on some level from most of the crew. It's not very different from people wanting a logia because it's the only type of DF they don't have or someone from a different race.

A matter of scale that doesn't apply, Robby. People are not even talking that much about Carrot nowadays because she's not active in the story right now. In WC things were mad, OF COURSE, because she was an active character there.
I admit that I can be enthusiastic, heck nakama talk takes most of my posts here because it's a fun thread or at least it should be, but you should notice yourself that Carrot is such a popular topic because it gets both hype and vitriol at the same time. We have many circular discussions about the character when there isn't even anything new about it. Don't act like there's one side to blame when you are throwing vitriol again here that is completely uncalled for and looking down on people for having a preference. It's hypocritical. And it's absurd because you are contributing to making it a hot topic. I can very well keep my hype quiet and to myself if there's nothing new to add, as I have for a while.
If Carrot were a boy, everyone would readily accept "too similar to Chopper" and call it a day and there'd be little or no debate.
I honestly think you think too highly of your own counterarguments and thoughts on the matter. If Carrot's similarities to Chopper are discussed it's because they can be discussed. And we have discussed this a number of times already. It shouldn't be an issue to debate this, you are making an issue of it by being completely unable to differentiate between a matter of perception and the objective truth aura you coat your arguments with.
Why is it different? Why is it unfair to compare any new candidate to old candidates who actually passed the bar? Jinbe is the most recent, and the only real case in the modern history of the forum, so he's the easiest example to go to, but we can go way back in the arhcives to Brook and Franky arguments.
It is neither different or unfair. It's just that whoever needs to defend Carrot in Jinbe's detriment does not represent me, because I'm all into Jinbe joining the crew. I like him, he's a great addition and a great character on his own. Many people believe the same and don't see a contradiction about wanting both characters in the ship. And I don't think there's a need to confront one with the other like they are competing for a spot in the crew. Heck Jinbe is a crewmate already.

So with the Marineford saga characters essentially complete, we have 20 subordinate captains of Whitebeard who didn't make the cut. If you're looking on the wiki, that's the bottom four levels of that section plus Choi and Andre (Andre is a particularly baffling omission as his Navy-aligned twin brother, Candre, was included). As best I can tell, the characters chosen to include were only the ones introduced either the spread of the allied fleet arriving in chapter 551, the spread of the allied captains charging in chapter 553 and those who participated in the charge of Whitey Bay in chapter 556. So basically, ones with actual scenes and movements within the battle to their names, not just the one-panel cameo characters. But then there's also Ninth, whose inclusion is as inexplicable as his number placement. Equally strange is the omission of Amadob and Blondie, who both interact directly with Whitebeard when he commands his forces to spread out in chapter 559, which I would have guessed was a qualifying scene put alongside the other ones mentioned.
But such is the falliblity of databooks. No resource can be perfect. Disappointing, but such is life.
I'm considering making a new sheet for numberless canon (and debatably canon) characters such as these, the Oda-designed movie villains and SBS exclusive entities, which I might add on the end and update as characters are deconfirmed from the actual Vivre Card databook (I fully expect the numbers and positions of the Charlotte kids to be as much of a mess as the Whitebeard captains, when the EX cards get that far), but that would be a job for tomorrow.

I was gonna wait for Redon to post HQ of the current 2 packs. But whatever. Anyway, all thanks go to Redon. Blanks I left on purpose. And sometimes there should be a blank there, but those are super easy fix.
This is part of my work on a visual power tier list and I am doing another one as a character guide per story arc too.Due to Redon high quality stuffs, I can change the size depend on what I do with them. My only problem is some of the lighting destroyed certain details. And for some project I may only want a partial of the picture.

I'm somewhat skeptical that the Macro Pirates will end up as EX characters. I know their time as antagonists were brief during the Sabaody arc and we didn't learn a lot new stuff about them, aside from being crew members of the Sun Pirates during the flashback portion of the Fish-Man Island arc. But mainly because it would seem kind of odd for the them to go backwards number wise on the EX cards, if they were meant to EX characters it seems like they should have been on the first Summit War EX card.
Granted they've done that for previously unnamed characters, but considering their names are largely puns it feels like they (or Oda) just came up with the names to fill space on the cards. I'm also beginning to think that Sanjuan Wolf and Arthur sharing numbers might not be a mistake. What if this upcoming EX card is for Whitebeard's allies (and possibly previously unnamed Marines) that couldn't fit in the previous cards that were focused on the Marineford arc, and it turns out that they end up sharing numbers with other EX characters (and possibly some characters that got their own cards).

Macro pirates are frequent enough to earn their own cards. They were involved in Hatchan's cover story. And then Sabaody storyline which have to do the slavers. And then of course Fisher Tiger backstory. Macro's panel time is equivalent to some people you can't even believe at 46 panels like Urouge 46, Jozu 50, Bastille 48, Opera 45, Squard 44.

Good catch. I'll have that fixed for the next update. Nekomamushi always gets me, to be honest. For the longest time I was saying something closer to "Nekomusashi" in my head and I have no idea where that came from. I almost wish the Vivre Card romanisation had canonised "Catviper," just for simplicity's sake

https://i.ibb.co/Jm0y8b1/Page-4.pngThis is a great resource as well! It's a good way to highlight the major characters from each saga. Have you considered a way to work the EX cards in as well?
I can empathise with the issues with lighting and inconsistent framing on the photographed cards. They're the reason I decided to go with panels from the digital manga for my own visual guide. I hope one day someone goes ahead with actual scans of the set, or that Shueisha decides to digitse it. Either option would make things a lot more convenient for working the Vivre Cards into online projects.

I would honestly hate for anything in that second paragraph to be the case. It just seems to go hard against everything the Vivre Card was built up to be. I wouldn't throw my hands up and quit keeping track of the set over it, but I'd be pretty unhappy.
I stand by the theory that the last card is for grouped characters who take up odd amounts of space and couldn't be worked into the other cards because of that. Rika, Jean Bart and Gloriosa have already been listed out of order on their own cards because they required more space than the characters around them, so there is something of a precedent.

Talking about being alive, Absalom's card confirms his death (it lists his age at the time of death just like WB, Ace and all those flashback characters)
Uh it was pretty much a given he was dead when we saw Shiryu has his fruit.

-Charlotte Perospero

EX Characters Summit War vol 10
•Revealing the favorite foods and blood types of the Charlotte family!
•The unknown secret of Mother Carmel!!,
I assume one panel twins of these siblings either share a card with the main sibling, or become ex-cards (Citron and Cinnemon on Smoothies card, Custard and Angel on Cracker card, prim on Praline's card, Broye on Brulee's card )
Looking at that list, there needs to be a second Big Mom pirate booster pack: These characters just did too many things to become ex-characters
-Charlotte Galette
-Charlotte Opera
-Charlotte Moscato
-Charlotte Amande
-Charlotte Bavarois
-Charlotte Mascarpone and Joscarpone
-Charlotte Decuplets
(-Charlotte Snack and Compote are in a weird position. Mentioned all the time, but never doing anything)
-Randolph
-general Orphans
-with the other ones they can go either way I guess. Jaconde, Brownie, Raisin, and Yuen were all properly introduced, but had so little screen time. So who knows. And i guess another booster pack would be the underworld leaders at the wedding other than Stussy, and maybe a couple cards with a bunch of homies
