Who is this guy that just died and why should I care again
I feel like this manga is heading into stagnation -
I don't think you were supossed to care.
-
Thanks for the link !
! Well that was some smooth story flow with a lot of show don't tell… :ninja: FFS I'm not even sure there exists an ass large enough to have pulled Houken out of. I'd completely forgotten he was even still around; I guess he must have been playing chess with Riboku all this time. Or it's just more of that teleport-no-jutsu from before, it's not like I have high expectations anymore.
! Honorable mention goes to Ten's one moment of lucidity : "It's ok guys, we don't need a HQ anymore since Shin is doing everything by himself" -
Well there goes the left wing!
I expected Houken would happen sometime this arc. After all, what is Reebok without his maxed hero unit.
Still surprised me, though. And he still wears those goddamn rags.
-
I can't believe I was hyped by the confrontation between Ousen and Riboku.
-
Surprise
It's Britney, betch.
-
What a lame surprise.
-
I'm more interested in what Shi Ba Shou is up to, since he only showed up a long ass time ago for like 2 panels and never brought up again.
-
Seemed like he doesn't care too much for the emperor. Or anything else beside his own people. Might end up turning against Zhao.
Mentioned this before, but I think he has connection with Reebok. Only lower portion of his face was shown, but it looks a lot like Reebok's. There's also a fact his face was needlessly obstructed. Which can only mean he's either someone we already met or he looks a lot like someone we already met.
-
So since when Riboku is the worst character of the manga?
-
! Might be a bit out there but I wouldn’t be too surprised if Houken makes his way to Shin and Gyou’un turns against Zhao (per Rinshojou’s wishes on unification) and sacrifices himself to save Shin. Seeing him as the one capable of saving China or whatever. The fact that we didn’t get his masters 2nd order makes me think it’s a bit of a possibility.
-
You bring up a good point. I wonder if there is currently anyone on Qin side that could seriously take on Houken in a fight. I've no doubt Ousen, for example, is pretty capable, but this dude does nothing but fight and he's probably gotten a lot stronger since his fight with Ouki.
Doubt Houken will get to Qin right that fast. But then again, who knows what the battlefield will look like once middle strats engaging. And maybe Houken got instructed to attack Qin camps at night and spread fear and panic. Can't rest and relax properly when there's a constant threat of a superhuman attacking.
-
The buffoon makes his appearance, this is the only time he has a chance against Shin.
I haven't responded to the strategy talks yet, but I will. I have one pending.
-
this is probably current favorite running manga but houken is honestly such a shitty plot device of a character. He makes Riboku look bad too given that whenever Riboku fails Houken is there to get him out.
-
Looks like everybody is tired of Houken by now. Let's hope it is his final appearance. Shin has been getting closer to beating him each time. Did not really matter how bad a condition he was in either.
-
Was it been like forever since Houken made a move? I didn't felt tired of him at all.

! Sad about gramps. Well not too much. Last minute build up. Hard to get too invested. Nice going there, though.
! Guess Houken didn't put any points into DEX. -
! Kinda filler-ish chapter. Not even the Houken scene made much sense, apart from providing us with some cliffhanger last chapter. So he just came to kill some random dudes?
! Its nice of course that he had NOT been summoned as some sort of strategy by Riboku, but then there is of course the question why Riboku had been so passive while his left wing suffered so much?
! But man, I'm so ready for that arc to finally end. Its stretching for too long. And I'm still not sure how a satisfying conclusion for the Shukai Plain should look like.
Riboku losing would made him look really terrible, as so much had been going for him and he then would still not be able to pull a win.
If Ousen is losing, then one could question his passivity and why he had not done anything at all to really influence or lead the battle and already is just going on pure luck.
! I kinda hope for some compromise: a hard-won Zhao victory, but that it all had been the plan of Ousen from the beginning to keep them busy, while Kanki takes Gyou. -
! Meh. I was hoping Houken would meet Shin or Kyokai and then we would have been rid of him once for all after a few chapters of battle, but his sudden vanishing makes as little sense as his surpise appearance. He killed a bunch of elites, but so did every day of battle until now so was there even a point ? Sure we got build up for gramps, but I didn't remember that guy and the minute he's had the slightest hint of fleshing up he's cleaved in two. What a waste of pages…
-
! so uh
Like if Riboku loses and Houken dies this arc
Isn't it like over, over? -
! so uh
Like if Riboku loses and Houken dies this arc
Isn't it like over, over?! The Zhao still have their capital, the majority of their territory, their main defense lines agains the Qin [the ones being outflanked during this arc] and the Qin armies are so weakened by now that its unlikely that they could continue once they have taken Gyou.
! It all depends how the other states would act. During all the previous centuries of the Warring States Period, if one state became too powerfull then the other would unite against it. At least there would be a reaction from Chu, which means that for the near future Qin has to look south, giving Zhao more then enough opportunity to appoint someone more competent then Riboku to reverse all the recent Qin gains.
! And then we are back to square one -
Don't really get why it's so hard for Reebok to locate Houken at any time. Maybe have scouts keep tabs on such a person of importance at all times?
Plus we've seen how he trains. Yells a lot and chops trees down. Not exactly low profile.

You can't use teleportation card if you do that..

The title: "The Day of Climax" - :O
! The chapter - yawn
-
! Climax of boredom, is what they probably meant.
But hey, if it had been cut down to just 6 pages it would have been a great way to make the tension feel real -
I am bit worried…about Kyoukai.
! I though she had a high chance of dying during Chu invasion, but Hara is showing all sorts of premonitions.
-
It's the final day
But like, the actual final day. Not like the other final days that were supposed to be the final day
-

! You can't have Shin follow… what's his face's name if something doesn't happen to her apparently. I hope it doesn't turn out that lazy.
! That's why I hate Houken. The dude serves NO purpose other than to randomly show up, kill a person, get slightly injured, and repeat the process a bunch. He's easily the worst character in the series. -
@Purple:

I hope there won't be some 'final' speeches also across the field.
-
I didn't love 601. It felt uneventful, especially after 600. Seeing Heki reminds me of how much I hate him and want him to due. Hara could've killed him, but made him an even bigger hero smh
En is the best character. Can't wait for him, Jin and Tan, and Na Ki to get more shine.
-
I'm probably the one one who enjoyed the last chapter.
I like these slow, reflective night chapters in Kingdom, giving us a look at the different sides.
new chapter is out since yesterday in korean/japanese/chinese/idontknow
! The Ousen army is attacking frontally and trying some tactics, which all dont work.
Shin is attacking on the right, obviously without any tactics and just by pure strength, intending to break through and fall into the flanks of Riboku.
! Nothing actually happened, but in the end Riboku got some surprising news from Gyou
-
Riboku's battle of attrition goes both ways now. Ousen's tricks will bring the best out of Riboku and I love it
-
Kanki finally does something?
-
http://sensescans.com/reader/read/kingdom/en/56/603/page/1
! Ok, figured it had to be news about food. Having Gyou fallen or something like that would remove pressure from Riboku and there would be little use of fighting Qin out at Shukai plains.
! Find myself hoping this doesn't drag out too long. Because it feels like we've been here forever. -

How long are we still on the Plains?
-
i am kind of surprised that ousen doesnt take this chance to take up a defensive formation. His whole general idea of being a general is only to defend or take fights he is sure to win. this seems very risky from him and i would have suspected him to use his general strategy of defending.

Well the numbers aren't in his favor. Plus he's gotta keep Reebok busy for QR flanking to have any chance of doing anything.

@Purple:
seems like we're pushing forward towards a finale soon
As you say, another 50 chapters. :getlost: I'm not sure there's such a word as "soon" in Kingdom anyway. It may be the final day (or so we're told) (again), yet it took 2 full chapters just to tell "suddenly Zhao went on the offensive" and look at what's still to come. Both Rebook's and Ousen's subordinates would need their time to shine, Shin and the trio ought to claim a few more heads, oh my god such brilliant tactic X is a monster but lookit mine, heroics yadayada, … Not to mention Houken is still out there (yurrh) and if his recent pop-up wasn't a complete joke we're sure to waste another 3-4 chapters where he keeps teleporting around until somebody finally deals with him (if we're lucky).
And that's before we even get to the events in Gyou. The only quick resolution I can imagine is if Kanki did something unexpected and either managed to take the city that same day or broke the siege and came to pincer Zhao center (neither of which would make much sense).
Or maybe Yotanwa comes back. Her mountain tribes have been resting for a whole 3 days now, by shonen standards they're as good as new. -
Doubt Yotanwa will come. The mountain tribes got pretty spent themselves. Was the last time we saw her in Ryouyou last night or night before?
-
I think it was last night while everybody everywhere was suddenly getting sure that this day would be the last. In all honesty I don't think they will come back, nor would I want them to. They've seen more than their share of action, time for others to get the job done.
But, the situation doesn't feel any different than it was before : I'm trying to imagine alternatives, but I don't see how Qin can win except by taking some gigantic power-up out of their collective asses (which is exactly what they did so far, so sure, why not keep going) -
Well a combination of asspulls and Ousen's tricks I guess.
-
Nothing that happened so far in this arc since the battle in the plains began makes Ousen worthy of all that praise/self-brag.
A plan that involved letting your army on their own for days until their captains awaken invalidate all that "it was all part of some preparations for that moment" vibe for me.
-
The strategy was simple
Send wave after wave of your own men until the Zhao reach their kill limit
-
When a character with this much mystique starts to speak more in fiction, this means things are finally going to speed up. I think Ousen is confident in the Hi Shin unit to be the sword that takes out Riboku. I can see him sacrificing most of Sou Ou's forces as a decoy for Shin and co to strike. That in itself relies on getting rid of Ba Nan Ji (partially retreating as trap) and Gyou Un. By some miracle, maybe Ou Hon comes out. That still leaves Ba Nan Ji. Maybe A Ka Kin can keep him busy. Zhao's left and center just have way too many generals left for the Hi Shin Unit to get to Riboku. I can see Kyou Kai killing Kin Mou.
I'm tired of seeing Fu Tei and Kaine. They will do nothing, but be amazed that the Hi Shin Unit got the better of them. 1 of them has to die to increase the importance of the other or they will forever be Riboku's 2 useless fodder to me.

That's a very bad strategy when you are outnumbered in terms of both soldiers and supplies.
It's a story and hence it has to work, that's all.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Riboku ain't falling here and there is no reason why those two would fall so early. Hara has had not invested quite a lot of panels and storyline on those two for to be sacrificed either of them so early.I only see Bananji, Gyoun and some of the commanders falling here.
The fate is already been set and only interesting thing left for me in this arc is Shin vs. Houken. It should be the last of the later. I am bit worried about Kyuokai though. She also has no reason to fall here, but Hara is foreshadowing some disaster…..I hope it is just red herring to spice the tension up. -
