An underappreciated part of your work is the high sub quality and its willingness to actually translate. I only recently found out that fansubs STILL consistently use nakama and other nonsense untranslated terms.

Absolutely is one thing I love about One Pace.
Though I am shocked to hear there are still active English fansubs for OP.

While I'm the first to drop an anime if the subs are crap I gotta disagree particularly on the term nakama. I think it should be left as it is in japanese since the translation doesn't do it justice. Nakama doesn't mean just friends and also doesn't mean just crew. It's combination of those two, unique in its form in terms of how One Piece uses it. Same goes for attacks. Gumo Gumo no should stay instead of "gum gum". Other than that, I agree. Well translated subs are crucial.
-
Nakama is not a special word. Depending on the context, you can use: Comrade, Friend, or Crewmate. People shouldn't have to rely on translator notes or look up translations for a word that can be easily translated and isn't something specific to the series itself. Oda did not invent the term.
In any case, we will always translate Japanese terms in our subtitles, unless it is a character name (Katakuri, Inuarashi, etc…) or some other special case (made up words that can't be easily translated).
-
The thing is that in the context of basically any case the word is used in One Piece, it usually means all of those translations at the same time, so always picking one of them doesn‘t do it justice imo. But that‘s nitpicking anyway so nevermind.
-
Two things:
- Has anyone ever considered the same treatment with the dub? I’d watch that.
- roughly how many minutes were cut out of this arc? I’m trying to get a sense of how much the icing is fixed.

Here's some stats from a reddit thread a while back for Whole Cake Island:
Anime - 97 episodes. About 23.83(23:50) minutes per episode. About 2311 minutes total(38.51 hours or 37:30ish in hh:mm).
One Pace - 39 episodes. About 1277 minutes total(rounded up. 21.28 or 21:17 in hh:mm). About 32.74 minutes per episode. -

Hello everyone. A big thank you to the team behind this project. It has been many years in the making, and I am one of many grateful one piece fans to follow your releases.
It's been a while since I downloaded any of your releases, and apparently you left Trello :wassat:.
Anyway, how do I know which arcs are finished, which that needs some work to be released (like Whole Cake Island), and which that will be remade entirely?
Thanks again.

Hey guys, I used to post on this thread 5 years ago back in 2014. I just remembered my log in lmao. But I’ve been watching one pace ever since and just want to say thank you again. I would have quit watching the anime if it wasn’t for you guys.
-
I cant load your website on my LG tvs browser anymore, but I could a few months ago, how come?
And thanks for your hardwork as always!

@Galaxy:
Reverie 1 is out!
Three episodes into thirty minutes. Sounds about right. I'll start watching One Pace with this arc, though I'll keep watching the original episodes, too. This arc just needs you guys so bad.

We’re currently doing some maintenance on the site. It’ll be back up sometime this weekend, hopefully!
In the meantime, you can find our releases on Nyaa.
Edit: It's back up now!

I've been getting a "privacy error" on both google chrome and firefox, is there a problem with the site or is it on my end?

It's a known issue that will be resolved sometime soon.
You can bypass it for now through your browser.

And is there going to be Post-War episodes right after? We really don't give estimates on when stuff is going to be completed.
It'll be finished when it's finished.

Do you guys plan to redo some of your earlier work?
-
@Dahaka.:
Do you guys plan to redo some of your earlier work?
That is the eventual plan, yes. Arcs like Fishman Island, Punk Hazard, and even Dressrosa were done when we were less experienced and had much less quality control standards.
Unfortunately, because we have arcs we haven’t covered yet, all of the focus is on those right now (and the latest episodes). But if all goes well, we will eventually apply the same quality standards of today to re-edits of those original One Pace arcs to ensure the entire series is consistently edited.
If we ever do fully get caught up on our backlog, that is when revisions will begin to happen.
-
You guys really have your work cut out for you with the Reverie. God speed with Davy Back 2.0

Hello! I'm watching your paced episodes (I'm in the Thriller Bark arc now) and I want to say thank you, because I found the normal pace too slow and boring for my tastes! I saw that, now that you've caught up, you are doing Enies Lobby episodes. In my opinion, the Marineford and Post-War arcs are more in need of a pace fix, because their episodes are in the 1 chapter=1 episode format. What do you think? (Also, I'm sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker)

Marineford is being worked on alongside Enies Lobby, so the focus isn't just on Enies Lobby.
Thanks for your support!

Oh, didn't know that! Thank you very much!!

Thanks for covering the Reverie. Any news on when the next episode will be available?

We don't really give estimates on when things will be released. They're done when they're done
Toei just finished what we need for Reverie 2 to be fully edited, so it's not going to be released until it goes through the proper quality control passes and timing.
-
Thanks for the update. The anime has been slower than usual since the new arc began so your efforts are much appreciated.
-
There's quite a bit of unreleased music throughout Whole Cake. Did you run into any trouble because of that? Scenes that you wished you could shorten and may return to later when you have the BGM?
-
For some reason I can't reach the website. Has someone else experienced this or is it just me? It seems to be down from my standpoint.
By the way, great work on the One Pace material guys… I am showing it to my wife for the first time and it has made it possible for us to watch the anime without that god awful original pacing.
Although of course I have to mention that, being a reader and watching the Marineford arc currently, it is still uncomfortable at times to follow the wildly drawn out sequences that suffer from the original animation style like Marineford which feels to me like ages and even the core feeling of watching it feels at times wastly different from reading the manga, but that is just my opinion on how the animators and directors did a strange job of styling the animated story. Take note that this is a criticism of the original animation but not One Pace's work, which is of course flawless ;). Take for example how the characters seem to be chatting inside the war at crucial points with nothing seemingly happening around them at times... Well I guess that rant will never get old and I sincerely hope that Toei decides to make a new version of One Piece after it ends.
Aside from that, what a groundbreaking achievement guys to bridge the gap of watching experience like this and I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of your countless hours of hard work. Even the small things on the website like the AP forums link and formatting feels right.
I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for this project and I wish you the best of luck. :)

Yeah I’ve been having the same problem since yesterday, it says 502 server down. It’s annoying because I really wanna keep on watching xd
-

Not really. It's much easier to cut out one long filler scene than the usual "second here, 5 seconds there" padding. And the meat of the Reverie scenes isn't that badly paced.
-
Stopped watching anime somewhere mid Dressrosa arc. Ever since then I've been catching up with the series with One Pace. Wanted to thank you for your hard work.
Now waiting for Reverie to finish. -

Edit: It finally came back up

The site is back up for me too, thanks! I was able to finish Marineford today.

I haven't watched your work– but from your premise, I have to wonder....
Is it really best to make the anime match the manga? Ever since the timeskip, the pace of the anime has bothered me, but all in all-- my favorite anime episodes are the ones where they don't even try to adapt anything from the manga, but do their own thing.
The episodes where the crew gets stuck in the Marine base and have to infiltrate their way out stands out as one of the greater ones that was far superior to the nonsense involving the Foxxy pirates that comes afterwards.
Or more recently, there was the Marine Rookie episodes or the battle against Breed and his crew of trained animals-- which ironically works as a nice precursor to Zou and then Kaido and his beast pirates.
Granted-- Grount's odd demon hand doesn't 100% fit with the magic system presented in One Piece, but both arcs did a wonderful job of actually creating a dynamic with Carrot and the rest of the crew that is sadly missing in the manga. If anything, I think the anime's biggest sin is that they don't make more of these original creation episodes that work to stick with a particular status quo and play more with the dynamics of the characters or tell side stories about characters Oda didn't focus on in the manga until Oda has finished a story arc and only then dive into doing that next story.
But until the timeskip, I didn't feel that the anime dragged. But, for whatever reason, since they entered the new world each episode feels like hardly anything occurs from the start to the end.
-
Its not like they threw the episodes into a furnace never to be seen again. They are just an option for people who want the anime at a more brisk pace. I really dont mind the anime's pace so I dont really use One Pace but I think you should give them a try to make a more informed opinion.
EDIT: I do agree that my favorite episodes are not Manga Adaptations. Sanji's Curry is awesome.

Like Captain Krupp said, those outright filler episodes are out there for people to enjoy. I personally love G-8 and have no problem with switching to it before going into the Davy Back Fight.
The point of the project is to speed up the anime's adaptation of the canon manga chapters, which have gradually gone from 1 chapter an episode (an already too slow pace for a weekly Shonen) to even less than that on average nowadays.
-
Incredible there are people who prefer some filler over the original manga story. Well, this is the world we live in, no sense at all.
About the anime, One Piece is by far one of the worst adaptations ever (maybe only the ones that CHANGE the original story are worse; i.e. Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater… Fortunately, FMA: Brotherhood came to fix the first one :D).
And "pacing" is one of the most important traits for an anime adaptation. Even One Punch Man s2, with such a bad animation, saves the day with an awesome pacing of 120+ page per episode (anyway, we watch anime expecting the most epic animation possible, I mean, something like OPM s1 or Fate).
Back to the "pacing" issue... One Piece was "not bad" at the beginning of the series. Goes to "very bad" about Skypiea and became "the worst thing ever" afterwards. Usually only 1 chapter per episode (WTF with this joke!) or even worse (half a chapter or less per episode). TOEI can't troll us more xDOh, well. They decided to use this kind of filler (EXTENSION) and the adaptation will never be good again.
Not sure if we can hope for a future remake, ala FMA:B... One Piece is damn too long xD
But you can keep your fingers crossed ^ ^
