! Everything about Hawks has been slopilly made.
! Oh he's a double agent, no A TRIPLE AGENT! (same chapter)
! He's Tokoyami's mentor, and the unrevealed 2th place hero!
! and now, this about Jeanist.
My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
-
-
! I am really liking this villain arc, Twice continues to be great and Shigaraki is more likeable than ever. There is also something going on with Spinner, who had his doubts at the start, but not anymore. Redestro remembering his pun assistant was also a nice touch.
! About Hawks, like others already said, the stuff with Jeanist lacked a proper build up. Maybe Hori should have showed the news of Jeanist missing at the start of this arc, the the little flashback with Hawks this chapter wouldn´t have been akward. -
! I suppose that Dabi was intended to meet Hawks for him to prove his loyalty to the league before the MLA forced them to converge to that city.
-
All the stuff with Jeanist and Hawks might have made for some intrigue had Horikoshi not shown his hand way too early about Hawks being a double agent.
-
! Do my eyes deceive me? Will Spinner actually might possibly do something?????
! Nice seeing Hanabata again. I thought The Doctor would teleport Gigantomachia there but I guess he doesn't need it. I hope Giran doesn't die, yeah its unlikely but worst case scenario The Doctor picks up the slack if he dies.
! And, where the hell is Skeptic? Guess he's busy turning office desks into minions. He still remembers Miyashita. Adorable.
I admit, I had to look up the name. Totally forgot that guy.
! Considering that is a Twice clone, and the original is out of action with Toga, I feel he is safe.
I guess one of the two: Hawks killed him or Kidnapped him for nomufication.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
! I think he's alive. And, I love that noumification theory. I do wonder if Hawks told Best Jeanist he was a double agent, asking him to go along with things for now. Hawks is tough but Best Jeanist is no weakling either. No way Hawks would win a fight against him without taking some damage.
@TLC:
All the stuff with Jeanist and Hawks might have made for some intrigue had Horikoshi not shown his hand way too early about Hawks being a double agent.
Agreed. It would've been amazing. It won't happen, but I'd love for the anime to cut out the double agent part and stick it in somewhere next season.
-
!
! That's the kind of line I'd expect to hear from a hero.
This villain arc is so damn interesting to me.
! I also can't believe we've had 12 consecutive chapters of this stuff. 3 months so far!
Based on established patterns volume 24 should be chaps 218-227, filling it with 95% villain arc stuff
(Slight deduction for the Todoroki/Bakugo scenes near the beginning).
So if this arc makes it to chap 237, we'll have had pretty much two full volumes of this. That's pretty unexpected and cool. -
! I disagree that the we shouldn't know Hawks is a double agent. It's too obvious and would be eye-rolling if played as a mystery.
! However I agree that we should have learned about Jeaninst disappearing a long time ago. Maybe soon in the aftermach of the fight with the Nomu so we assume it's from the league while evryone was distracted. Than at the end of this arc you get phone call and the little flashback.
! The heart of this story isn't about if Hawks is evil but how far should he go and if he can survive. Is his cover worth killing Jeanist is an interesting question. And to me the question is only interesting if you know he is a good guy. -
! I could have sworn there was a blurb about Jeanist before. But maybe that was more about how he was out of commission for a bit after Kamino.
-

And to me the question is only interesting if you know he is a good guy.! I agree with this. Revealing Hawks as a double-agent just moves the tension from a mystery (IS he a double-agent?) to character drama (How far will he go? How will he fake it?), which is Horikoshi's stronger suit anyway.
! That said, I also agree that this transition kind of came out of nowhere and we could have used one or two small scenes to foreshadow Hawks and Jeanist being part of this arc. -
! I'm only guessing that we are getting brief pro hero stuff now. Cause once the villain arc is done we'll have the UA kids working again now that Bakugo and Todoroki have licenses. And there's gonna be a lot of plot threads thrown around.
-
My Hero Vigilantes 55 is out!
Damn!
! Knuckleduster isn't messing around. What a contrast between how him and All Might gets things done.
! Aizawa doesn't know All Might's secret identity yet. I wonder when he tells everyone. Guess it'd have to be once he started teaching at UA. He couldn't exactly keep his muscle form the whole day. Here's hoping that was The Doctor talking to No. 6. Now would be the perfect time to introduce him in the series. -
Damn
! Mr. Oguro don't kid around. And that was probably Das Doctor talking to Nº6. I guess we KND now?
-
! I could have sworn there was a blurb about Jeanist before. But maybe that was more about how he was out of commission for a bit after Kamino.
! He just announced he'll go on a hiatus for a while, or something like that. During that hero popularity contest, I think. No details were given about how severe his injury was.

There's a theory going around that Spinner's quirk transforms him into a bigger, more vicious looking reptile. Gotta say, it would explain a lot of things, one being his unwillingness to use it seeing as he was bullied for being a mutant. Not to mention, him cosplaying as Stain could be a response to his desire to be someone else and not just admiration.
Also, having Spinner go up against Hanabata, a popular "normal" looking guy oozing with charisma, would be a good contrast to Spinner's possibly lonely life pre-LoV. It even fits into League members battling their psychological issues in order to power up.

That's good and matches Mandalay commentary on how he hasn't used his quirk.

One thing I am liking about this arc is Spinner´s development, he started doubting Shigaraki since the yakuza arc, but after hearing Shigaraki´s backstory and seeing him train for a month it seems he is starting to admire his leader.
Maybe he will finally ditch the Stain´s cosplay and start being a villain of his own.
Pd: Hopefully we will get something for Compress too, but since Giganto is on the way, maybe Hori will wait for another arc.

That actually sounds like a good idea for a smash chapter, I remember there was one where everyone except Shigaraki cosplayed as Stain and wanted to change the league´s name to "Stain Fanclub"
But really, I don´t know what kind of villain look Spinner would have without the Stain´s cosplay, being a lame version of the hero killer used to be all his character.
-
Well now would be a good time for him to get an identity of his own. Does he even have a quirk outside of just looking like a lizard? Is he like Tsuyu and can do lizard things? Regen, chameleon stuff, run on water, nap on hot rocks?
-
The reason Spinner looks the way he does is so that Horikoshi can draw a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, take him out of the Stain cosplay and you remove his entire purpose to exist.
-
Spinner bothers me as a member of the league.
I could see him in a regular gang robbing groceries but I have a hard time buying him hanging out with a bunch of sadistic fucks tryng to topple society in the meanest way possible.

I think Spinner isn't really a villain. I don't mean he is a double agent, I mean he doesn't have some grand villainous idea like other LoV members. He just wants to remember Stain and continue his work. He stands out because he doesn't really have their objectives, nor does he have any of their psychosis. He is that "normal" guy who got caught up in something bigger than himself.

And that's exactly why I think he would have left by now. It's not like facepalm is threatening to force him to stay.
-
I'd call Spinner the most normal member but admiring a guy who murdered heroes isn't good either. In the end, he's down with destruction if he thinks its necessary to his cause.
-
Spinner's the only one on Team Evil to have something resembling an actual ideology beyond "destroy it all" or "FUCK YOU DAD".
-

But the reasons he would be fine with destruction are different than Facepalm reasons. And he is down with destruction if necessary not just for the hell of it.
The whole they are both bad so they can team up always seemed like lazy reasoning. Punisher working for Joker would be strange.
-
True, but as long as both can achieve their goals without getting in each other's way everything's cool. Plus, them being friends helps. That friendship is gonna keep the current League together until the end. I like that we're shown how well they get along as well as their power ups.
That friendship Shiggy feels for his team might be the one factor that differentiates him for being 100% like All For One.

They currently aren't really friends and Facepalm just invited him into a city wide slaughter fest and before that they were kidnapping/killing children. Him being there is way just chilling with a couple of bad bros.

He also doesn't really plan and has no delusion of grandeur. He just chill with a couple of psychopaths and Twice that doesn't care about anything but having people to chill with. If you take out the spineless Spinner they make a lot of sense. I can see them murdering people by day and playing video games by night.
-

Totally disagree. The League are friends. It's slowly happened over time, but they all care about each other as much as each one can. They're not threatening to kill each other or other junk like that. Just because they're killers don't mean they don't care about each other. Killers and murders are capable of love, people aren't either All Love or All Hate, even if some are made up of a large portion of one or the other.

Great point with having no delusions of grandeur, but Shiggy is getting better at planning. I think once he gets Gigantomachia, along with Uijiko, the Yakuza bullets, and the rest of the League, he'll have enough resources and earned experience to make long term plans.
-

I am speaking about specifically Spinnet who at the beginning of the arc was wondering what the hell he is doing here. The rest seems friendly enough. I mentioned I can picture them chill and play video games. Except Dabi but he's the emo kid. My point being Spinner has display no traits that would make hangs with people that murders for fun and he doesn't even seemed to get along with them that much. His presence in this group seems strange. The rest has personality that fits why they would stick together while Spinner feels like someone that was roped into this. Except that he was not.

Yeah, Spinner does look like he's in over his head at times. But, I think this arc will fix that by diving deeper into who Spinner was, is, and wants to be. He's got to break out that Stain box he put himself in and accept his quirk (and by extension, himself) then decide once and for all what he wants to do.
If that happens, it makes sense Hanabata is his opponent, a handsome and charismatic guy with all the self confidence in the world. I'm almost positive he'll slam Spinner for never using his quirk, basically egging him into a flashback and forcing him to eventually use it.

! Cool chapter, but Giran would be dead if clone Shiggy didn´t tell clone twice to create a human cushion, that´s not cool.
! This fight itself is making me remember the Shiina vs Isana from Hori´s first series, Oumagadoki Zoo, the main villain there also wore classy clothes and used a giant-sized body part to attack, his skin also became darker when getting bigger (but in his case it was because he was turning back into his giant whale monster form) And considering that Shigaraki is a punished version of human Shiina, I can imagine that the fight will end in a similar manner, with Shiggy shouting "This is for hurting my friends" and winning thanks to the power of friendship. That last part is a joke, it would be a little weird seeing a villain win the fairy tail way.
! >!
It´s most likely a coincidence or I am seeing things were there aren´t, I think Hori just wants to have a villain with the samy body-type Kingpin has in Spiderverse. -
! And to those that thought that Twice trauma was over it’s not. They all still see themselves as the OG.

Nice try, Horikoshi, but…
! Ain't no way we're seeing the Big Bosses fight. We're probably going to Spinner or Dabi's fight next time.
! Anyway, I'm loving Redestro's quirk. Safe to say he could make his entire body huge if he wanted. Whatever he's got, its more than simple gigantification. I would be mad at Shiggy for putting Giran in danger but Twice could just made a bunch of copies to soften his fall. And, where the hell is Skeptic? I'm starting to think he's gone after the real Twice to fix his mistake. Might be getting a Skeptic VS Mr. Compress fight then.
! And yeah, we get confirmation the MLA is all about free quirk use without any restrictions. A good idea on paper until you realize the world will then be run by whoever has the strongest quirks. Not to mention, other things like uber deadly quirks, mind manipulators, and whether or not its legal to kill people with quirks. Basically total chaos.! And to those that thought that Twice trauma was over it’s not. They all still see themselves as the OG.

! I love he's not over it. The clones are just too focused on saving Giran and helping the League to duke it out. It keeps Twice's power in check, only using it in emergencies.

! They want people to be able to use their quirks not erase every law. Murder, rape and stealing would still be crimes. It's more like Momo could make a dress without caring if it destroys the economy. And others could fly to school.
! There would probably be chaos but let's not strawman their goals.
! So his power is gigantification only from what we saw right? -
! He's putting poor Kendo's quirk to shame
-
! And to those that thought that Twice trauma was over it’s not. They all still see themselves as the OG.
! That's not the trauma, it's a normal part of being a perfect clone. He had to inform the cloned Shigaraki and co. that they're clones becaues they wouldn't know otherwise. Instead, his trauma was thinking that he was a copy which could disappear from relatively minor damage. The series has been very explicit on hammering that he's overcome that trauma and all of its implications (specifically, he now clones himself no problem).
! I generally dislike this sort of "character progression" because it permeates the idea that mental issues are simple to solve if you get to the source. It's also unrealistic so it breaks my suspension of disbelief. -

What Geten said about the strong quirk users leading the weak is the MLA's answer to the expected social chaos. Quirk freedom is absolute but Redestro will be the one deciding what deaths are justified and etc. Again, what can you do if someone wants to control your mind or activate a volcano? That's their quirk and Redestro's about freedom. I think he's all about the cause no matter the consequences thinking with him in charge he'll fix any problem that arise.
! He was also fast and his arm is kinda elastic. Cell/Self-Molecular manipulation, maybe. -

! Exactly. Twice's clones inform the LoV duplicates they're clones but they themselves think they're still the original. Twice prime might be convinced of his humanity but it appears that all his clones automatically believe they're real unless convinced otherwise.
! Wonderful detail: Twice forgot to duplicate Mr. Compress's missing arm so he scratched his chin for him! -

! He was also fast and his arm is kinda elastic. Cell/Self-Molecular manipulation, maybe.! He wants to make quirks legal not make crimes legal. If Bakugo burn a sign by accident or fly to work, it's fine. If he murders his wife with his quirk because she cheated on him, he goes to prison. It doesn't become not a crime because you used your quirk instead of a gun. If someone use mind control for sex it might be seen like a pick up artist and not care but if you use to force someone to rob a bank you are liable the same than if you coerced them by having their family hostage.
! He is magneto or Malcom X. The man that will do whatever it takes to get the freedom for his people but also isn't saying they should be above the law. At least it's what it is and it doesn't get stupid.
! Thank you for the explanation. I wasn't sure. -

! Thank you for the explanation. I wasn't sure.! But, bad things will happen with you basically tell 80% of the population you can do whatever you want with your quirk. Redestro can't have it both ways (although I'm sure he'll try). He wants freedom to use your quirks, but that will cause a whole set of problems like what if your quirk is so insanely destructive or intrusive just the act of using it breaks other laws? That's why I keep bring up mind manipulation. That person's taking another's freedom to make their own decisions, turning them into a slave. What if using your wind quirk causes accidents while flying around? There's too much overlap with other laws for this to work. Redestro wants to show footage of "average" citizens fighting off the League. Does every criminal get mob killed? What crimes constitute that? Law enforcement is being put in citizen's hands and that could lead to trouble depending on the people involved.
! The MLA inner circle aren't people off the streets, they have influence, power. And, they should know the average person has no problem with someone using their quirk in public if it doesn't bother anyone else. If they wanted to compromise they'd go about this the legal way. They're going all in and taking things too far.
! Geten's words confirms it. That guy's drinking the MLA Kool-Aid too. If he says the strong will rule the weak I'll betting he got that from Redestro. And after seeing Redestro's quirk I'm also betting it's Redestro who wants to be the strong one in charge.
! Add all that plus Redestro willing to accept his follows dying for the cause and we got a guy who has no intention of putting anything or anyone above quirk freedom. If you die, that's because your quirk sucks. Oh, well. -
! Re-Destro: NANOMACHINES, SON!
-
! Assuming that the Shigi clone and the last Twice clones in that room got popped in the fall, the entire info dump from Re-Destro was really only heard by Giran. Pretty nice way to give the readers the information without giving it to the league who really don't care about what he's spewing.
-
Hm. What's it looking like. 1 or 2 more chapters to end this arc? As much as I'm enjoying my fill of Twice. I'm missing the school lol.
-
Hm. What's it looking like. 1 or 2 more chapters to end this arc? As much as I'm enjoying my fill of Twice. I'm missing the school lol.
Nah, we've got Redestro plus at least three more named MLA guys to contend with, Gigantomachia, Hawks fallout, and the "end" of the LoV to cover. Probably 10 more chapters.
-
! I generally dislike this sort of "character progression" because it permeates the idea that mental issues are simple to solve if you get to the source. It's also unrealistic so it breaks my suspension of disbelief.
! This is a special case and makes sense since his trauma was that he never knew whether he was a clone or not and if he got hurt he'd disappear forever. He overcame this because he was forced to feel pain and found out that he still existed after the fact and given the circumstance of his crush being in danger this snapped him out of his fear over the matter. The underlying problem however, of the clones thinking they're real, might cause trouble in the future but only if a traumatic experience like before resurfaces. Until then, he's pretty much a free man and it made for a great character moment to show how powerful his quirk really is.
