Slightly more than nothing still doesn't make something noteworthy or worth focusing on though.
Especially in a series with literally hundreds of characters, thousands if you count unnamed characters.
Eyelashes the camel was found in the desert by the Straw Hats after they saved him from a Sandora Lizard! Bonding moment!
He would only let Nami and Vivi ride. What a unique interaction with the crew!
Out of admiration, Nami named him "Matsuge" but he refused to let anyone else on! A unique nickname only one crew member has for him! Personalized bonding!
That prompted the rest of the crew to beat him up and label him as a "Pervy Camel". What antics the entire crew had with him.
Then there was a scene where Chopper translated for him, and he said he was a serious loyal badass camel. Truly a moment shared between him and Chopper that made them both better characters.
During the crew's escape from Rainbase, he introduced them to a giant crab! What a worldly camel that had an unusual friend. Such a notable quirk.
Then later he provided a distraction by disguising himself as Vivi! A camel disguised as as one of the crew! What a unique sight and moment, a memorable comedic reveal that was!
And then he joined in with Usopp to fight Mr. 2, They lost in a hurry, but it was still a joint effort bonding moment.
And on top of all that, he was on a volume cover with just the strawhats! In the heroes vs. villains covers!
All of that in just a couple of chapters!
And what does all of that mean?
Nothing. Because he's one of dozens of companion characters. None of that is worth pointing out or a super crazy memorable defining bonding moment. As a whole it adds up to SOMETHING, but it's still basically nothing.
I could do the same with Jonny and Yosaku, or Kureha, or Dalton, or Wiper, or Chimney, or Caimie or Hachi or Smoker or Tashigi or Hancock or Lola, Shushu and Gaimon and Buggy and Mr. 2 and Mr. 3 and Crocodile and half the supernovas, or just about anyone the strawhats have spent any time with. They all get moments, they all get interactions. Most of them aren't worth noting and commenting on.
Or hey, what about Kankuro's drawing brought to life mountain climbing dragon, Ryunosuke!
That little guy gave it his all to help the strawhats out to reach their destination. The entire crew cheered him on, making up a song just for him! And then at the end everyone, except for Zoro, felt bad when he started to fade away. Robin even cried for him !
He was only around for what, three pages? And had tons of super memorable interactions and is really hard to forget, one of the most memorable short form characters Oda has done. And he was just a temporarily brought to life drawing.
