Hard to say. I would actually hope not, since we NEED to see Takamura achieve his goal.
I don't think we are getting it aside from a montage or timeskip.

Don't follow this series, but I find it amazing that they've pulled 1200 chapters out of a fucking BOXING manga.
How the hell do you not hit burnout?
shrug Fights take longer than you think I guess. Champion boxing matches can take up to 12 rounds.
Sometimes they take too long, but so do OP fights.
But the series is ending? Or there will be a timeskip?
That's the question. HnI is still popular, so I'm not sure how the public will take it if it suddenly ends.

Are there still plot threads to tie up, or can it be brought to an end relatively soon? Cause after well over 1000 chapters I think the readers would understand if the mangaka would want to finally close it out and relax, lol.

it's basically as "complete" as slam dunk was when it abruptly ended…lots of lose ends in terms of secondary characters and plotlines, but more or less the main character can consider his own arc "closed"

There's plenty of threads to tie up, most notably Takamura's. It would be a damn shame to not see Takamura take the Heavyweight title in person, or see someone take down Martinez, but it HAS been a super-long manga.
I'm pretty sure Morikawa has decided he is going to draw Hajime no Ippo until the end, even if it literally kills him and this arc is meant to represent the same for Ippo. I imagine we'll get a few chapters of Ippo living the retired life before he wants to fight again.
About the future of the series:
! Takamura OHKO-s his opponent so it's definitely not ending (for him). Ippo retired officially.

Yeah these are some hard times for Ipoo scans. Seems like only yesterday Snoopy Cool and Ignition-One were putting out chapters now y it practically have to go to Reddit and other where places to get info on new chapters.

Hm, that conclusion could look like a series ending, but is it one ? Is there maybe an announcement in those last pages ? (completely clueless at japanese)

I am not sure about the next chapters until 1209, but 1203-04 are pretty much a direct message from the author telling us what is going to happen from now on. Translations discrepancies aside of course.

Considering how slow Takamura is going up the later I doubt we could ever see him realize his goal.
HAJIME NO IPPO 1209 RAW
Gah, more medical words that give me a headache.
But it's basically a chapter of nostalgia and farewells.

It said it would continue on the bottom. For how long? Who knows.
I really like the tree moment.
Out of curiosity: have there been any more chapters of HnI ? I'm intrigued to see where the story went, if anywhere.

check the subreddit for some i don't know how accurate translations ofthe last chapters that are not on MS
Thanks, I didn't know about that channel.
So it did continue (there are translations up to 1216 out there), but after the last defeat I have to admit interest of the story dropped immensely. The latest chapters show Ippo about to become second in one of his pals' match, that's seriously underwhelming compared to fighting a world-ranking match himself.

Ippo's lacked any drive for so long that Morikawa's trying to make that into the center of Ippo's progression. Working as a second will definitely help Ippo regain his fighting spirit.

Which pal? Sendo? Miyata?
Underwhelming though it may be, I give Morikawa props for having the guts to make Ippo retire for the sake of his health. So many other mangas out there would have their heroes fight to the death, but Morikawa is saying life is more important than death here.
I'm sad that Ippo will never fight again (maybe), but he was never my favorite fighter. I always preferred Takamura or Sendo.
It seems like this will be the perfect time for to learn how to hecomw a smart boxer. He has always taken so many careless hits, but as a second he gets to have a new perspective on it all. I’m sure he will come back.
I would prefer if he doesn't come back.

Why not Shinoda hasn't been having a good run lately.
I always preferred Takamura
I'm shocked I didn't take you for being into the crass and self centered types.

Not as a person so much, but as a boxer, sure why not?
Which pal? Sendo? Miyata?
Someone from his gym. Kimura, I think.
There are some funny scenes in how Ippo is approaching it, and I agree about the health thing. Still, the stakes don't feel as high as in his return match. It's entertaining to read, and a fresh take on defeat compared to many other mangas, but maybe not a must-have. I guess I would have been okay with the manga concluding on Ippo's retirement.
Kimura, or the kid? He's supposed to be the greatest hope for the gym after Ippo.
Kimura, or the kid? He's supposed to be the greatest hope for the gym after Ippo.
Itagaki? Can't stand him personally…. Him getting wrecked by imai was one of the high moments of the series...
Honestly i find it interesting how the author just does the opposite of what is generally expected of the story progression.
And looking back at it i can only say that for instance the Miyata thing not panning out felt right.

Itagaki haters will probably love that last (short) chapter.
Oh, the doctor said that he was healthy. Well, I guess that just means he will comeback eventually.
He's currently healthy, but he's on a precarious edge to truly fucking himself up.
He made the wise choice.
Absolutely, kinda a wish that he was not, so he could retire for real. But from the chapters posted above, I get the impression it will only be a temporary thing. I hope not, it would be a good message to stop when your health is at risk.
He can't fight in the ring anymore, but that doesn't mean he has to cut himself out of the boxing world entirely. He could be a trainer (maybe), or even a cornerman. Actually, seeing him supporting Miyata as a cornerman in a fight against Martinez would be awesome.
Mangastream is about ten chapters behind, so…
! Ippo has been watching Hayami fight. Hayami's record is terrible these days because of his glass jaw but he continues to fight, which has Ippo amazed. Ippo's coming back soon, I can feel it.

Of course he is.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
They better not freaking bring Ippo back to the damn ring. He had his time. He isn't interested anymore. Let him rest. He was never among the obsessed with title of the manga. You find a decent carreer end for him. Stick to it.

more than that i think the author would send a terrible message by letting possibile puch drunk fighter step again into the ring in search of glory.
Itagaki haters will probably love that last (short) chapter.
Nothing will ever be as cathartic as Imai destroying the smug little brat with legit preparation and record time since Itagaki cares so much about the record. It's one of the those rare fights I read more than once.

It doesn't fit Ippo. But I could see it work for someone like Miyata, Takamura or Sendo or even Mashiba. either as tragic tales or determination stories. But it doesn't fit Ippo.

Exactly. He showed us with Nekota what can happen when a punch-drunk fighter keeps fighting. That would negate everything that Nekota went though.

I liked Itagaki when he first joined the story. But the more he won the more of a brat he turned into.

He became unbearable once he got the sharigan(against the protegee of Sendo). Before that he was fine. I always prefered Imai but he was fine and you could root for him. But I guess every Uchiha has to be unbearably smug.

Didn't he already do that with Jimmy Sisfa when he turned to Scratch J?
anyone still following this manga? MS has just released a bunch of chapters but the reddit community is way further in terms of chapters translated

The women in Ippo's life are a pain in the ass. And Kumi is turning into a bitch.
There's more (up to 1229) here, and if what seems to be developing happens, I think it'd be a genuinely interesting path for the manga to take…
! Though I have my suspicions it won't.
! I think we all thought that being a corner man would be a great way for Ippo to stay in boxing without having to risk his head. But this feels like it's just trying to force boxing on him instead. Yeah, you love boxing, Ippo. Willing to risk your brain for that?

! isn't kind of the point that he isn't risking his head by being a second/trainer and still staying around something he loves.
! i mean in this chapters there was no shortage of people that questioned ippo about what he wants to do,and as of now he kept his conviction straight
I have literally no interest in Ippo being anything but a champion boxer.
I only have mild interest for Hippo's current path - though it may develop into a compelling story later on - but the stool part gave me a good hard laugh. Every now and then, Moritaka pulls off one of those gooffy moments, that's something I like about the series.
I think Morikawa's doing a brilliant job of giving Ippo a path back to the form that made him so dangerous in the first place. Being forced to think about how he can make others win will give him the perspective he needs to become worthy of fighting Martinez. After his first major win as a second Ippo's going to realize that he never really tried to win his fights and that's going to destroy him so much he'll be ready to get back in the ring.
