First look at Aladdin:

-
Will doesn't look bad?
-
!
Not sure how I feel about this
-
They look like cosplayers.
-
Wouldn't that also apply to the broadway cast?
-

The Genie is the only one that looks worse in the Broadway version. This Aladdin, the main character looks like a guy that was told by his cosplayer girlfriend he had to dress as Aladdin a week prior.
Why is he wearing a J Crew shirt? What's up with that vest? The way he's standing makes him look poofy.
-
Well, in the original Aladdin's pants were apparently based on MC Hammer.
-
For comparison
-
That's a flying Scooby camel away from being a Shazzan remake.
-
Watched Mary Poppins Returns today. It didn't NEED to exist (and ethically probably shouldn't have been made), but enough effort was put into it to make its existence worthwhile; I felt like a kid when watching it. The plot was nothing special, it follows the first one's formula as you might expect, but I did appreciate how the Banks children who are now the parent figures didn't magically forget their experience with Mary Poppins. They do lose a bit of the magic as Mary herself lampshades, but have different roles than their father and mother did and the moments where they do become antagonistic feel like natural parts of their role, rather than a full retread.

Enjoying some old classics. I wish Disney would make more of these:
-
Rufus finally being confirmed for the live action Kim Possible movie.
-
Uuuuuggggghhhhh . . . . .
Disney, why don't you just say you're going to make all your animated movies live-action?
-
Disney: We're remaking all of our animated classics in "live action". Plus I guess we're going to do the Hunchback of Notre Dame too.
-
Lindsay Ellis's video defending your Hunchback movie wasn't an invitation to make a remake, Disney!
-
The music was the best part of their version, )and Tony Jay) it's been done in live action before, and since it's not a 90's animated Disney film, they'd hopefully tone the gargoyles way the hell down, or get rid of them entirely.
If the music is carried over, there is every possibility this particular remake is actually better than the original. If the music is not carried over, then… well... there's been other live Hunchbacks.
Uuuuuggggghhhhh . . . . .
Disney, why don't you just say you're going to make all your animated movies live-action?
Because some of them were never popular enough that would drive any excitement. They're going to go through a lot before we end up with Aristocats or Zootopia Robin Hood.
-
I'm over here waiting for them to get around to doing Atlantis in live action.
Also, never knew Nancy Cartwright was Rufus.
-
Can't wait for them to get rid of the gargoyles and then ruin everything else anyway.
For what it's worth though, HoND is one of my favorite Disney movies and, actually, one of my favorite films period. Gargoyles and all.
-
The broadway version actually manages to much improve the Gargoyles, and has some good new songs that adds to Quasimodo and Esmaraldas characters. Sadly, it falls short in completely new areas (such as condensing pivotal dramatic beats to exposition, making Hellfire a lot more boring). Theres a perfect version caught somewhere between the two.
As for a live action remake? Apart from hating the trend in general, I can't imagine Frollo making it out one tenth as gruesome and on-point his animated self. Could Disney still do a villain who's a xenophobic old white man in a position of authority on a crusade against immigrants and using religion to rationalize his behavior, including entitled lust for younger, vulnerable women? Maaaaaaaybe, but a lot of edges are gonna be sanded right the hell off. He's gonna be a hell of a lot vaguer about everything.
-
Don't get me wrong, I do love Hunchback. It's not Beauty and the Beast, but the music is great (in Latin!), most of the characters are great, and it has a great villain. It also surprised me that Disney would make a movie that shows even part of the church in a bad light.
But does it need a live action? No.
-
But does it need a live action? No.
There's already been a dozen live action film versions, including silent films and miniseries… but its been almost sixty years since the last theatrical, and that was a French film.... and the one before that was in 1939, so being a SOUND film was a novelty! Hunchback is way past due for another crack at live action, even if its coming from Disney.
Out of all their animated properties, THIS is the one of the ones that's the most likely okay to move over, because the strengths of the story don't hinge on things only animation can do, like crazy comic timing or the Genie or talking animals. And especially since the Broadway version actually improved on it a bit... but they've so far had a terrible track record of not carrying over any broadway songs for the live remakes, which is a shame.
Similarly, Les Miserables is fine in live action, but they have yet to put an ideal version up, musical or otherwise. There's a perfect version waiting to be made, complete with songs, but the one we got wasn't it.
-
The original Hunchback will always have a chance at a movie, but I just worry about Disney specifically making their own movie live action. As in, talking gargoyles.
-
I wish Disney would take a stab at a different Gargoyles project….
Regardless, the 90's Disney animated sidekick thing isn't something they're entirely beholden to now, and the Broadway show already fixed them, so if the live film went anywhere near that approach, and stayed the hell away from Jason Alexander style, it'd be fine. But again, these films have a bad track record of NOT including any of the broadway stuff for some reason. Don't want to eat into those tickets I guess.
Tho, maybe we could get this version of Hellfire in there.
-
Here's new verison of the Kim Possible opening for the movie.
-
That's really, REALLY weird. It looks like they're legit trying to capture the tone and action of the show, down to things like Ron pushing Kim aside for the cheerleading or Ron's pants coming off and using the exact same music… but that just does not work at all on zero budget live action where swingng in front of a green screen just looks baaaad.
Like for once, they actually have the very best of intentions in trying to be true to the original as possible, and it's just... not something you can do without a big budget.
-
Lmao. I feel bad for people that loved this show. I know it's not really meant for them. But I think they're probably old enough to have to suffer through it cause they may have kids old enough to want to see this mess.
The clip of I saw a couple weeks ago was also puzzling. Because I thought she was under cover. But there's a scene of her being nearly late for the bus. But she's doing tactical rolls in the middle of the street and saving a baby with a grappling hook but nobody is surprised by this. In fact they seem to know she's a spy or whatever.
-
That's how it was on the original show, too, though. Everybody knows what Kim does in her free time.

Nope. That she went on missions and did globe trotting was open public knowledge. Had a number you could call and everything. Long as it didn't interfere with her school work.

Uhhh. Okay that makes it more strange. Still not sorry I couldn't get into it lol.

I watched the whole series a year or so ago and for the longest time I thought Kim was a government agent or something, but eventually learned that she's apparently just a freelance…badass I guess who also saves the world from supervillains.
I still don't totally get it.

It's a show.for kids not everything is going to make sense,

I recently rewatched Avatar and it's still a visually breathtaking movie. The avatar's themselves look amazing.
And this is not amazing. But to be fair, getting Genie right was going to be a challenge from the start. Could've made him a big fat blob like in the original with tiny legs, but that wouldn't look right for film. Ears look good though.
-
-
Yeahh… officially not interested anymore. SOme of the behind the scenes shots had it looking really colorful but that just looks... meh.
And Will SMith just looks weeeeeird. And going by that clip (which to be fair is only like 2 seconds) he seems like he's just playing... Will Smith.
-
If you made a parody of a Disney remake of Aladdin, it'd still look like this.
-
-
-
-
Autumn is coming…
-
Well, that certainly look tonally different from the first one.
They need to just cross over with Brave and be done with it.
Wreck it Ralph already broke the crossover precedent, they may as well just Avengers it up.
But is Frozen II really the best title they could come up with? Not Frozen Down Under or Frozen: The blank of the blank? Numbered sequels are always kind of weird.
-
Elsa is damn cool, you have to admit it. But what the hell was that?
-
No idea what's going on in that trailer, but the animation looks really good.
-
Yeah, I think they perfected water CG for Moana so now they gotta use it. Similarly, they perfected hair CG for Tangled and Incredibles, so….
-
I'm really happy that this doesn't look phoned in, which is always the first fear.
I can actually feel a purpose behind this, can't wait for the context.
Based on the new girl and the gust of wind nearby, I assume we're exploring
the concept of other people existing out there with elemental abilities.Compared to the light-hearted singalong feeling of the first movie,
the tone of this teaser feels more serious and sincere, and they're not even stuffing Olaf slapstick in there to attract attention.
Most of the runtime is dedicated to Elsa storming her way through a raging ocean.
The application of her powers makes me think of Aokiji. This is outlandishly promising for a new direction.
It has the potential to reach some great heights if they pull it off well. -

-
That was also a fabulous BGM they used during Elsa crossing the waves. Are Robert and Kristen Lopez composing the music again?
Yeah, I think they perfected water CG for Moana so now they gotta use it. Similarly, they perfected hair CG for Tangled and Incredibles, so….
Well, that's Disney. Accumulate your accomplishments with every project and use them whenever you can.

Part of what made Olaf great is that he wasn't too slapstick-y. He certainly had his moments, but he mostly was just so silly and cheerful that it worked for him rather than being a constant clown.

https://comicbook.com/movies/2019/02/02/aladdin-producer-empowering-princess-jasmine-anthem-new-song/
"In the first movie we felt like she didn’t have enough of a goal, it was really just to meet a guy. And here she wants to do more, she wants to save her world of Agrabah, she wants to play her part in leading her kingdom."
Did these people even watch the original?! Jasmine's entire character motivation was basically to get away from her father's insistance that she get married! Sure, she ultimately did end up with Aladdin because Disney does love their romances, but it's not like she went and threw herself at him the moment he showed up. Quite the opposite, in fact.
