Man,Hara's idea of 'ration' is comical to say the least.

Still not as bad as Makou's death.
Morale is an actual thing. If soldiers can't see themselves winning, then there's almost no chance they will.
Regarding Ousen, I bet he plans to use the situation at the worst timing for ZL. He needed to keep QR unaware of the plan so that Gyoku Hou, Hi Shin and Akou army would play their part convincingly enough to goad ZL into false sense of safety. It's a gambit, but with a decent chance of success. Putting Ouhon as the commander would have probably just led to a stale mate of sorts, and QR would still lose because of limited supplies. Making things this imbalanced in favor of ZL actually gives a better opportunity to tip the scales in favor of QR.
Well, what a load of crap…
The morale thing I can get behind, but «let’s think really hard how we need to get stronger» is a new low for powerups...
I took it as just them needing to find the best way to motivate their soldiers.
Of course making it sound like "our men need to go through Super Saiyan transformation" is silly, I can't really defend that.
Either way, that desperation mode that Chougaryuu wanted to avoid will happen one day earlier it seems. It can still turn out allright, I suppose.
For me everything as expected
When all else fails, use brute force.
Or shounen ass pull haha but great i like it
Little unfair to call it a "shonen asspull", when there are historical records of speeches like this before battles. Not to mention all the movies, shows and books that have them in variations. And it's not like this is a historical documentary to begin with.
But damn am I invested. Felt something not unlike goosebumps, same as when Yotanwa gave her speech. He's really good at creating the atmosphere.
And also, no point riling up the men for battle, only to have them sit on their asses and wait to be attacked. This attack order it something I can easilly imagine that maniac Duke Hyou giving. So capitalize on the momentum and keep it up, while it's still early in the day. Zhou side now doesn't have time for any speeches and have lost the initiative. What Chougaryuu wanted to avoid is happening before the battle even started. No doubt Ouhon is doing the same, and Akou army, being experienced proffesionals will follow along.
Okay its a morale boost, but isnt that exactly what the Zhao had planned for? A last desperate move by the enemy?
And while it might be possible for a random general to have considered the battle already as good as won, this is Riboku we are speaking about, the supposedly genius. I fail to see how he could not plan for exactly that.
This turns out as I had feared: Either Ousen pulls some miracle out of the hat and wins the battle (and lets not forget, that Riboku has even outside the rigth wing a superiority of forces in the middle and left) which would make Riboku look like an idiot for throwing away a perfect opportunity; or Riboku wins in the end but that would lead to even more questions why Ousen was so passive all the time.
In the end, I still like that sort of battle speech to fire up the troops better then any other explanations for the awaking, so lets see how it will play out.
Though I fear that the next 1-2 chapters will only be the good guys kicking ass and then we still have an extremely likely break, so it will be some time.

They dont need speeches.
They are fighting on their own ground against an enemy invasion of their most hasted neighbour.
They are fighting for the very survival of their nation (and historicallly Qin had a very black reputation)
They are fighting that a major city filled to the brim with refugees did not fall to someone like Kanki.
They are fighting while knowing that (supposedly savage) qin-allied barbarian tribes are running amok in their backs.
The Zhao should be motivated enough.

No? Last chapter Chougaryuu specifically says he wants to defeat QR before they get the desperation power up. Too late for that now.
And Ousen doesn't even need a miracle. A detachment of soldiers sent in from the flank at the right timing would be enough to turn the tide. It doesn't even need to be so wildly unexpected as what Riboku did to Makou.

Yes they do. Hungry men, fighting day after day can sometimes lose sight of the big picture. That's what leaders are for, in the end.
Don't see how their leaders riling them up, reminding them of what is at stake, could hurt their stats.
Fuck tactics and strategy, just rile up your men lol You know I can get a little morale boost can turn things around but when it's the only plan they have, they deserve to get murdered.
"Attacking" is equally good as "defending", as far as plans go. Didn't see them working out any strategy before morning. And tactics can always be applied. That's what troop training is for, amongst other things.
Of course, Hara can still make it terrible.
Ride of the Rohi..erm Hi Shin Unit.
I want to see Ouhon's speech.
I still expect this battle to be magnificent and valient effort from the units will do wonders and be vital to this entire battle but, I still think it will be all according to Ousen plan and just a thing that allows him to shine and take the spot light. Lets not forget two main armies arent even in the fight yet
Btw I admit I am a bit bothered by all the whiney strategy Ten is doing for Shin, he is the guy who should be calling for shots maybe let her have a say and hold her on, but come on man you aint about to be a great general of the heavens who is a complete mess without his tactician…
Team Shin uses brute force. Team Ouhon backs them up with tactics. Ousen takes all the credit.
Yeah, Ousen is definitely not above using other commanders, like he's shown with Heki before. They're all just pawns to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he made them sweat blood just to capitalize on their success.

But Hara already made it clear that even Ten is struggling to come up with a convincing plan at this point. So Shin doing a brute charge doesn't seem that much of a surprise.

Oh sure, I get they're in a no win scenario. So they shouldn't win. But it's a shonen series so they'll bullshit their way out of it.
I thought Kingdom was Seinen.
I get your gripe, but it's not like armies winning battles against odds is something unheard of in history.
A charge can also be called a tactic. A shock attack if you will.
And maybe it won't make that much of a difference. We'll just have to wait and see.
I thought Kingdom was Seinen.
Kingdom is the type of seinen that would actually be in Shonen Jump back in the 80's with the likes of Fist of the North Star and City Hunter.
Chapter is out
Smash Bros. chapter. Everyone is here.
Ten is kind of reminding me of shin when people were getting sick of him with her " ehhh " behavior but shes always complaining and being negative while doing it. She just seems there right now

People got sick of Shin?
People got sick of Shin?
People didnt like how he kept getting taken a back like an idiot when someone discussed strategy around him. Back in the first part of the battle.
I mean the first few times the morale thing was used was pretty cool and hyped
But now it almost feels like a cop out but then again its not exactly a cop out because we know Ousen will come save their asses.
Putting things into perspective, there's zero strategy or moves left on this chessboard except for a suicidal move that can perhaps deal heavy damage.
Only way out is the classic Kingdom way, third party intervene and basically say fuck chess we're ganging up now.
It's out.
! Oh that was unexpected. Things are even harder to predict now. I like that these guys are cautious. They're the ones who have plenty of time, after all.
I liked it that he didn't even bothered mentioning Bihan's name.
Not even Buckteeth. :(((
I like the fact that this doesnt change the food situation. So what now lol
zhao right wing retreat doesn't mean that they cannot relaunch attack right?
well in all fairness in the retreat they should took heavy losses?
Not bad and it makes sense that advancing Ousen's army would take a full day, but it's a bit frustrating to go through another chapter of relative inaction. I was hoping the momentum they had gained last chapter would be followed by some nice flowing action to show the reward of their efforts. Okay we get it, they're at the end of their morale and food and wit but they're determined as hell. Now quit stalling and get things in motion, for pity's sake!
So cocky Reebok? That doesn't sound like you.
Yeah. From the Yang Wen-Li strategy book, my immediate thought when hearing Reebok say there's only one day of food left was "maybe punch them in the nose and then run away", but no, I guess we're doing a full scale fight on the next day of conflict.
On the other hand, p cool to see Shin do the right thing to bolster morale.
One of the better chapters, I just love how the author allows himself to insert his humor here and there, even during serious moments. He has a good balance. Like when the entire Hi Shin Unit showed up and we had that amazing double page, he shows only Bihei's teeth. Now, with Shin and Kyou Kai.
The author has been spoiling me, giving general En-san amazing panels. I could not stop giggling when he joined in the shit talking. I expect nothing less from the first recruit in the unit.
What?! Nani?! Qué?!
Ousen knows it and 2ants to actively get rid of ouhon…
I guess this arc will be Ouhan's glory then.
Ousen knows it and 2ants to actively get rid of ouhon…
That's a little too much. He's not so wasteful. And the timing?
There's not much either of 2 could do if 3 seasoned veterans with greater number of soldiers decided to just take one of them out with their combined efforts.
Maybe it will be up to Shin to assume command over entire QR after that. Or maybe Ouhon will order his men to follow Shin. Doubt he'll just die here.
It's also possible QR with Ten and Ouhon accounted for the possibility of ZL targeting one of them. Otherwise what's the point of either of them being taught strategy and tactics.
Arh, I hate it when he uses these fake-or-not narrator spoilers to create tension. Decent chapter otherwise.
I also do hope Ten will be involved in the solution. It's about time she did achieved something other than despair
Funny that Kingdom got to Awakening before OP did
Yeah, that awakening business reminded me of that strategical vs instinctual general talk not too long ago. Charaters discussing while using codified terms, as if they're talking about a card game. Apparently, the units all follow a linear progression model, and awakening is one of the staples. Ousen could have just as well said Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou units achieved level 30 or something. At level 30 you get a significant stat boost for your troops, everyone knows that, duh. Ousen just didn't know for sure that Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou will manage to get enough XP points before they die.
I still love the arc (except the Makou incident), but these bits of sillyness deserve to be mocked.
