Thing is Bruno is the main character of part 5 anyway, Giorno's just an addendum to part 5 anyway
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
-
-
I've got a lot of issues with Giorno, but we can all agree that Bruno is the protagonist and Mista is Araki's favorite on the squad.
-
Given how his great great grandson who was teenager for all of part 3 and loves to call his mother a bitch and his grandfather old man why not?
We went from "Even Speedwagon is Afraid" to "Even Giorno is a vanilla protagonist"?
"Giorno is a strong, quick-witted, calm and collected member of the team, whose always quick to make a plan, keep the morale high, and help out his mates in a pinch" said Bruno, as Giorno looked into the distance aloofedly, making sure to never meaningfully interact with his teammates, nor betray any semblance of a personality in his mostly unchanging pretty boy face. He did, however, do so while wearing fabulous clothes and posing a lot, so the Japanese fandom adores him more than any other JoJo. Ah, Japanese fans, you have the best taste.
(I do love part 5 but it's well known that despite looking cool af, occassionally giving super cool beatdowns, and partaking in the weirdest random activities.. Giorno's personality is that of a cardboard cutout)
-
One thing I will never understand is why the manga only refers to Giorno as Dio's son and never as Jonathan's son. Whenever I think about the "original universe" Jojos, I always think of them as three pairs of parent/child, but it seems like nobody else sees them like that (nor even Araki).

Technically Giorno is Joseph's uncle, Josuke's great-uncle, and Jotaro's great-great-uncle. All while being a 15 year old.
-
If I was going to rate Dio's sons by personality I would place them like this:
Rikiel>Donatello>>Giorno>>>>>>Ungalo. -
I don't know if Giorno would be better or worse if he didn't have a Stand. Probably better.
-
Giorno's more compelling than Abacchio and really Fugo, so he has that going for him.
Also more compelling than Diavolo, but that's not a difficult task.
-
Whether or not I end up liking Giorno when I revisit Part 5 with better translations, I'm confident Diavolo will still be boring and Abacchio will still be worst boy.
-
Ranking Jojo personality (in amount of personality, not likeability) Joseph>Jolyne>Josuke>Jonathan>Jotaro>Johnny>Jo2uke>Giorno
Not actually sure about Johnny's placement, I need to reread part 7 because although i remember it being awesome, it also feels like a bit of a blur.

i vaguely recall Fugo having moodswings and buying narancia some spaghetti
having a mood at all is more personality than giorno hadabbachio is just a boring piece of shit though
-
A reminder that Abbachio could've had a personality if only he wasn't constantly telleing Giorno to piss off.
-
Abbachio is obviously the stern straight man/plot assistant
-

Uhm, Johnny is actually the ONE Jojo that goes through a complete and coherent process of charachter development, through redemption and self-improvement, throughout his part (Jolyne too, maybe), and it's in fact the whole theme of part 7. Rest of the Jos are about adapting their way to the situation at hand, from start to finish. i'd rank him first actually.
Also Jo2uke has actually 2 whole personalities. Can't honestly compete with such a sheer amount of charachter.
Also 4 balls. -
Johnny is not an interesting character in terms of being charismatic or overall likeable, but he is definitely the most well written Jojo. And let's be honest, any Jojo but Joseph would look boring having to share the spotlight with Gyro.

I totally agree with this. Johnny is definitely the best written JoJo in terms of character arc, but because he's sullen and introverted he doesn't have the screen presence of the more entertaining JoJos.
Character development rankings within their respective Parts:
1. Johnny
2. Jolyne
3. Josuke
Wildcard: Jo2uke
4. Jotaro
5. Johnathan
6. Joseph
7. Giorno -
Well so far, Josuke seems like a happy medium between Jotaro and Joseph. His stand is pretty cool, though. (although it looking like a palette swap of The World CAN'T be by accident)
-
It's true that Joseph doesn't have much development in Part 2, but it's hard to improve on perfection
-
Purple is the color of truth.

@Purple:

Could stand to explain his broken ability to know whatever someone's going to say…..or how he can pull tommy guns out of nowhere.
-
Joseph absorbs too much screentime in Part 2 for me to really enjoy him there.
No one else really got to do anything worthwhile. Aside from punk on some jobber vampires
and it's honestly a little repetitive rut of "Joseph is on the ropes, oh wait, no he's not!!!!!" -

No one else really got to do anything worthwhile.Hey dying, jobbing, & getting maimed isn't worthless:ninja:.

No one else really got to do anything worthwhile. So this is what religious people feel when they hear heresy!?
Anyways, I agree Lisa Lisa was shafted and that's a shame, but I like Caesar's role even if not quite accomplished. But it's their fault for competing with Joseph, Wham learned how to complement him and look at the guy, I still find him one of the best Jojo villains (and one of the best characters in general).
-
I'm on episode 7 of Part 3…
I feel like it's going to be a really loooong while before they even get to Egypt... -

I feel like it's going to be a really loooong while before they even get to Egypt...Yeah, it's quite the journey. There's like 45 episodes in total iirc.

and it's honestly a little repetitive rut of "Joseph is on the ropes, oh wait, no he's not!!!!!"yeah i guess that was kind of the shtick with action manga in the 80s. Thinking of dragon ball or Fist of the North Star, everybody but the protagonist were there just for jobbing.
At least Lisa Lisa was shown actually getting the upper hand with Kars, but Caesar's last ripple should have had a bit more of significance, while it was completely pointless, at least plotwise. -
Yeah, it's quite the journey. There's like 45 episodes in total iirc.
I know Part 3 will be long….but it's taking a ridiculously long time to get to Egypt.
I have watched up till episode 16. It's feel like I'm watching Scooby Doo with "stand user of the week" instead of "monster of the week". Lol
I know it standard for shounen series to go through various mini-boss/minions before fighting the big boss. But this takes the cake.
On the positive note, I like that everyone gets a chance to fight (however there were too much for my taste) & some of the stands were pretty cool. -
"stand user of the week"
That's Part 3 in a nut shell, really. I mean, all the parts starting from 3 have this as a strong aspect, but Araki learns how to hide that a bit better with a plot that doesn't make it seem like they are all aligned waiting for their chance to fight… on Part 3 he still didn't.
-
It took like 24 episodes just to get to Egypt…They have faced off 14 Stand users. And now they are going to face another 9 more before fighting with Dio. Welp.
I just finished that episode with the 2 brothers. That was the most filler and pointless episode ever.=.= -
Oingo Boingo was not a waste of time.
-
Oingo and Boingo eps were my favorites of part three. Clever, beautiful, stylish. My impression was that those were not filler, but high-budget works of art.
Anyway, I'm so conflicted. I just found out that there will be
! a female Joestar later down the road, which I'm super excited about, but that would mean progressing with the manga now. Which is usually not an issue, but the anime has such a high quality! Experiencing the content for the first time with sound and animation might be worth the wait. Especially since some things can really just catch you off-guard, like…

Female Joestar is part 6. Ie the one after the next. Maybe worth waiting if you prefer anime over manga?

Do they drop an enitre season in one go or is this on a weekly release?
-
I won't denied that it was a funny episode with the brothers' ability screwing themselves over.
But in the grand scheme of things, Jotaro & his pals didn't even know they existed. They took down 2 of Dio's men without even realising.
Also, I'm getting a bit worn out with the non-stop mini boss battle…
I can appreciate humor there and there. The battle with Mariah was a bit more interesting & hilarious.
I also don't really care about the 'manga' thing because the art style kinda creep me out imo. -

It's usually been a weekly release for what ever season they air.

The parts after it do a better job of "hiding" it imo, or at least having interesting things outside of the fighting. And yeah, Araki's artstyle can require getting used to. It's somewhat grotesque and the poses can sometimes add to this.
-

Like all anime, one episode a week. 39 episodes I think it is. Then wait two years and they'll probably release Stone Ocean (part 6). Or just read part 5 and 6?
-
I personally hope Vento will be 4-cour and include Purple Haze Feedback because that is imho needed to really give Part 5 full closure, but I know that is a pipe dream.
Also hope we get another female Joestar protagonist in Part 9, but we don't even know what Araki has planned for the ending of Jojolion yet.

I don't even care about the gender of the protagonist, I just want Araki to change his artstyle back to something coherent. He usually does major shift of artstyle in between parts, hopefully 9 will look different to 8.
-
So, I just finish Part 2 & started part 3(would probably give a series review after I finish Part 3).
I know the animation style change in part 3 but even the artstyle change a lot. Josuke is not nearly as muscular as his predecessor. Jotaro look weird too.
Was the art style different in the manga at part 3?And yeah, Araki's artstyle can require getting used to. It's somewhat grotesque and the poses can sometimes add to this.
I'm referring to Mondetta's ability, not Araki's artstyle.

Assuming he does, yes - Araki was fresh off muscular part 3 designs when he started part 4 and over time, crafted a slimmer, smoother desire style. While the anime of part 4 takes a medium between early part 4 manga and late part 4 manga, THIS was Josuke:

I am 98% sure that SunnyBlue just made a mistake/got confused since Phantom Blood and Battle Tendancy were both crammed into one anime season so by "finished part 2 & started part 3" they meant they finished the Stardust Crusaders anime and just started Diamond is Unbreakable.
Also to answer SunnyBlue: Yes the art style changes a lot between Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable.
ps: when I see people complain about the art in JoJolion I am legit confused because I don't find it harder to follow than any other part aside from maybe Steel Ball Run…

-
There's always a modification in artstyles from a Part's beginning to it's end; Part 4 and 7 have the most dramatic ones while the rest are more subtle.
-
My mistake. I meant to say I finished Part 3 (Stardust Crusader) and started Part 4 (Diamond is unbreakable).
While it is natural for artist to change their artstyle over time, especially for series going on for decades…Josuke look like he got a complete redesign.lol
Josuke at the beginning definitely look more like his predecessor with the super buff body.
I'm still getting used to the overall aesthetic of Part 4. I feel like the Stand don't look as good as Part 3.
Of course, we are back to 'Stand user of the week' format. -
@Cyan:

That's not a change in art styles, we just gradually explore different alternate Funnies.

yeah, look: if it really bothers you, you should consider dropping it alltogether (but don't do it) since it's going to stay, with slight variations maybe, for the next 25 years of jojo serialization ahead of you (DiU started serialization on Jump in the early 90s). Considering that the only parts that didn't have it were 1 and 2, which are also the shortest, and early part 7 ,which at the time wasn't even officialy jojo's, you could well say this is the Jojo format. Bizarre people with bizarre powers who costantly end up in bizarre situations, sometimes justified by a very thin plot and very little care for coherence.
Each part is a really fun, really wild run, but not exactly shakespeare, and that's kind of the deal ;) -

The other users already told me about the whole "stand of the week" thing getting more apparent once part 3 start. I know what to expect. I just wanted to point it out. lol
Most of the fights are genuinely good & keep me going. Even if there isn't much plot but it works in favour of part 3.Whilst I enjoy the fights in Part 3, I can't say the same for Part 4. I did fast forward a lot of the fights & jumped straight to the conclusion of the fight in Part 4. I got up till episode 26 & jumped to the final battle with the main villain of Part 4. I didn't care at all about the supporting characters in Part 4 so it was difficult to keep my interest on plotlines unrelated to the main villain. I even got bored of the main villain because it took forever to catch him. Though his defeat & death was poetic justice. Part 4 was most or less 'supernatural town with a huge secret/murderer' type of story. I seen too many of this type (& it's favourite kind of story, it really need to stand out to get my interest).
In fairness, it's not Araki's fault since it was published way early on than most of those show I like. The funny thing about me possibility of dropping the series…
I got spoiled on the ending of Part 6 which makes me genuinely not continue on to part 7. I will still check out Part 5.! I HATE universe get reset/alternative timeline type of ending. Personally, it ranks in the worst kind of ending along with 'it was just a dream' ending. I will drop any series that has this kind of ending without a single hesitation.
I have investment in the original Joestar family. Even if the main character of the part changes, it still linked back to Part 1.
But since the universe reset at the end of Part 6, the Joestar family are not the same one anymore.
I also heard Part 7 & Part 8 follow separate timeline so yeah…I guess I'm getting off this ride. -
! The new universe at the end of part 6 isn't the same universe that parts 7 and 8 take place in. Parts 7 and 8 are basically a reboot of the series and have no connection to the earlier parts. They're not alternate realities in the same multiverse, they're not a different timeline, there's no relation between the universe reset in 6 and their universe. And from what I've seen people talk about it, the only changes in the new universe in part 6 happen to people who died when Made In Heaven was active. So the entire new universe is the same except for basically the main characters of part 6. I don't know if this would make it worse or better for you. And parts 7 and 8 improved incredibly because of Araki's move to a monthly manga. If you for some reason just wanted Araki to keep trucking with the original timeline that's fine but I think it's a pretty silly reason to drop the series when parts 7 and 8 are still good Jojo. But I can see you've already resorted to skipping through the episodes so I don't want you to force yourself to watch/read it if you don't want to.
