I still need to see Atomic Blonde. It's probably not my kind of movie at all but the colors in it look amazing.

Hugo and Jake continue their Jordan Peterson saga:
This quote in particular stuck out to me:
We remain eternally nostalgic for the innocence of childhood, the divine, unconscious Being of the animal, and the untouched cathedral-like old growthforest. We find respite in such things. We worship them, even if we are self-proclaimed atheistic environmentalists of the most anti-human sort.

I don't know how many people here watch the ColliderVideo channel, but one of their own Jon Schnepp suffered a massive stroke last week. It's really not looking good for him.

Another great video from Lindsay

Beauty and the Beast is by far my favorite Disney movie. I tend to be passive on most things including movies and I can pretty much any adaptation and go out with a simple meh or hmm they had some interesting ideas.
Beauty in the Beast is the one adaption I will never watch because I don't consider there's need to improve on the execution of the original and I just now that it's that one disney movie where I would be to much of a purst to ever give it a fair shot and would only be fuming how inferior it is.
I agree about the washing machine thing being weird and being a bit on the nose with the feminism. I don't think the mother idea was bad. It's just a bit more flesh out backstory and connecting more with the family. Gaston having PTSD is not a real problem I think mabe the execution was lacking but I think it can be interesting(if they don't kill him in this one). The town not being shallow and in love with Gaston definitely is a problem since they are the representation of the arc. People are shallow and should learn to look deeper. The fixing of plotholes is something I have problem with people in generals in trying to explain everything like the powers from the incredibles.
Interesting video. I should try to check out more of her recent ones. I think last time I checked was showgirls time. And some Meg Ryan movies.

Amen, sister, amen.
Cinderella didn't do too bad, actually. Everything else . . . . meh.

So idk if this belongs in here but a YT'er I watch Kryptonian Saiyan has been doing reviews of every chapter from 1-684 and got his channel in serious risk of termination because he replied to so many comments he got flagged for using bots, the internal team rejected his appeal…

Every chapter of what?

Every chapter of what?
One Piece and Dragon Ball it seems. That's what his tweeter says.

Let that be a lesson: Never talk to YouTube commenters.

Youtube comments were a mistake.

So GuruLarry said on Twitter that after it being a year since his controversy with WatchMojo, he'd reveal that he pretty much doubletrolled them the whole time.
For those that don't know, the gist is Larry found that WatchMojo copied his content for one of their videos. Larry pointed it out to them by citing a piece of info he claimed he put in their knowing it was false info. WatchMojo's response was laughable, with them removing the video, but having the nerve to not only just blame their "plagarism" programs not picking up on the "similar" content, but to critisize Larry for "knowingly putting false info out".
And Larry revealed today that apparently the "false" info he knowingly put in their was in fact correct information. So more or less he made them look stupid even a year later, with no effort put in since.
I love this man.

This is why I never use Netflix.

So Lindsay did a Q&A for having reached 400k subscribers recently:

I love how his videos start on one subject the go completely off into unrelated tangents.

Time once again for Plinkett to whisk us away into the magical world of Star Wars with his analsis of The Last Jedi.
-
Hard to argue about the ending being better that way.
-
On a completely unrelated note, I just learned that animator Harry Partridge is the son of XTC frontman Andy Partridge. That's just…amazing.
-
Considering Plinkett's last Star Wars video had a section dedicated to how Disney should tone down the diversity because kids don't really care about it…
...yeah, I'm gonna give this video a HARD pass.
I mean, at least the earlier Plinkett reviews (besides the now VERY uncomfortable "comedy" segments) had a thesis that was argued or had some worthwhile points, whereas the more recent Plinkett reviews seem to have devolved into borderline incoherent ramblings with a hint of point submerged deep under all the crap.
Personally, I think RLM should just stick with their Best of the Worst material.
And while I'm on the topic of film criticism, I just discovered this guy, Patrick Willems, who just released a video yesterday about how the Internet misuses the term "plot holes" that is really good:
-
I think that rather than forcing just hollywood and it's interest to fill a quota for diversity, we should as a society empower other film industries.
Asking hollywood or disney to do justice for all the people is like asking a pizza joint for a steak or sushi.
Granted, I say that, but I don't plan on seeing another spanish movie, after the orphanage, Julia's eyes and the pan's labrinth I'm there just for horror.
-
And while I'm on the topic of film criticism, I just discovered this guy, Patrick Willems, who just released a video yesterday about how the Internet misuses the term "plot holes" that is really good:
Can we get this guy some kind of medal?! He's super spot on!

Hey, Movies With Mikey has just released a new video talking about Avengers: Infinity War, specifically Thanos.
…hoo boy, this one is going to be divisive as hell.
But that's the thing about Movies with Mikey, even if I don't always agree with him, his videos are always so well produced with tons of work and research put into it that I always feel like I learn something new with every movie he talks about.

I think you should give this one a chance. Episode 7 was a bland semi-remake of A New Hope, so structurally there weren't a lot of interesting problems to examine. The Last Jedi has prequel-level issues, and I think they did a good job breaking many of those down.
-
Do people really even like the new Star Wars movies ? I think the Last Jedi was worse than episode 3 for sure and perhaps even worse than 1 or 2.
-
A lot of people like the new Star Wars movies, excluding Solo.
-
Episode 7 was okay as far as remakes go, the characters were likeable and the potential was there. And episode 8 actually is decent and time will bear that out, its just so against fan expectations there's huge backlash.
-
I still do not understand why. I'm sorry. Maybe it's because I've come from fandoms where things go to MEGASHIT!
-Sonic the Hedgehog
-Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and Castlevania swift decent into the grave.
-Capcom in general
-Walking Dead becoming unforgivably bad
-Dexter ending in the worst way possible
-Tomb Raider becoming what it was
-Mortal Kombat briefly entering the grave and then reviving years later
And so much worse. All of these situations produced products that I absolutely loathed, but I can't look at Sonic 2006 or Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness or Konami abandoning their titles in general and say, "You know… The Last Jedi radiates the same quality at those unforgivably bad situations." Even if I didn't enjoy the movie, I can't even fathom the movie being so bad that I would send death threats or get into flame wars with critics who like the movie.
It's pathetic. I've seen people make the comparison that "The Last Jedi is to Star Wars, what Zelda: Wand of Gamelon is to Zelda." Which if that is true in the fandom's eyes, then the fandom is full of spoiled brats. At this point, I cannot stand Star Wars. Any of it. I can't even talk about the fucking Star Wars Holiday Special and the fucking Wookie "Life Day" holiday without someone giving me an entire synopsis of how much they hate The Last Jedi... 8 FUCKING MONTHS AFTER THE MOVIE CAME OUT!
-
I dunno. I liked Last Jedi.
Although, yeah, the middle did kinda drag and it didn't really give me any reason to look forward to episode IX.
-
Yeah, the Star Wars fandom is super entitled and toxic for some reason.
Guys, you remember how bad the prequels were, right? No, those are okay now because the new thing is the worst one? Is that what's going on?
Last Jedi was uneven and it did have flaws, but it wasn't the nightmare misfire people are over-reacting to it as. I still think in 20 years when the dust has settled and a new generation has grown up on this path for Luke and Leia instead of entitled EU brats that can't let go of what they wanted… it'll be better.
Even the prequels, bad as they are, are liked fine by the kids that grew up on them.
-
I mean, I dunno. I kinda thought The Last Jedi was the only Star Wars movie that I actually really liked. I mean, on more than a cultural context level, or a base appreciation for a few isolated elements.
Visually it was jaw-dropping, thematically it was seamless, the characters were all square and solid, and the ending was outright lovely, leaving me stunned and conflicted in a way that no Star Wars had… ever. It's one thing to spend seven movies talking about how important and Lawfully Good the Jedi are, but for the first time since I was a little kid, I really felt like being a Jedi meant something. That I was seeing the end of one mythology and the beginning of another. I mean, maybe I'm not the best person to be advocating for it since, as you can tell from my first post, I was never the biggest Star Wars guy (I thought that the best one aside from this was merely good) but still. I think TLJ was what made me see Star Wars the way real Star Wars fans see Star Wars.
-
Disney-era Star Wars is just the old EU in movie form.
You've had rehashes of the trilogy, things that explained something that didn't need to be explained, and people in charge of one work clearly not caring about the contributions of the other people.
Solo, hilariously enough, was the film version of the Han Solo trilogy; the lesser A.C. Crispin trilogy and not the Brian Daley one. Rogue One was Death Star, The Force Awakens was Shadows of the Empire.
The Last Jedi was pretty much Darksaber since it lacked the imagination to be The Crystal Star.
-
And Rebels gets the Thrawn trilogy which is one of the few people REALLY seem to care about, even if it is set before ANH instead of after Jedi.
-
Like, I don't even mind someone hating the movie. Fine, that's fair. I'm not here to say it's an amazing movie or that it's the best Star Wars film. But the 8 months of YouTube essays of how it's killed the franchise? The death threats? The insults? No. Just no.
-

Imagine putting up with all that for about fifteen straight years like George Lucas did before selling the franchise to Disney and still does to an extent.
-
It shouldn't have been tolerated then and shouldn't be tolerated now.
-

Or we can just say that a bad movie is a bad movie because it's actually a bad movie.
-
We should quarentine Star Wars in it's thread. Nakamate style.

Goddamn her voice acting was so good I wanted to punch her through the screen

Holy shit! I saw that clip, but I didn't know Penny Parker made it. I recently started following her due to Smash stuff, but that is fucking hilarious.

I always find it amusing when people get on Cinema Sin's case for missing obvious details or being overly critical…. and completely missing that they're joke reviews and not to be taken seriously.
That said, them disecting a full roadrunner cartoon would probably be pretty fun actually.

They were always jokes but their contwnt got more pedantic and they made more mistakes as they tr to expand on the scope , iE sinning things as bad writingwhen they didnt understand the movie and other things. They've portrayed themselves as more serious and their comedy has went down IMO

The longer they've done this, the less they've acted like it's a joke. And the worst part is, a lot of their fanbase has begun seeing this form of critique as legitimate. It may be a joke, but it's a joke that's pretty much ensured a new wave of 'fun, enjoyable people' who believe that there are no good movies.
-
tldw; trying to be satirical, serious, over the top imbecile, and trying to change the face of media with a video, without clear distinction where you are doing each is a bad idea.
I don't enjoy their brand of criticism, and they are influencing people in a way that is detrimental to media as a whole.
Combine that trend, with the plot holes video, and Lindsay's Live Actionbeauty and the beast video, where more effort in the movie was focused into covering plotholes of the original than being it's own thing.
-
The video a couple pages back Shut Up About Plot Holes basically explains why CinemaSins and other mainstream outlets have ruined a ton of things.
I can't even enjoy My Little Pony with others because such a large amount of the community is constantly trying to scrutinize everything about the show. The only time I actually enjoyed talking about those episodes with any community I was in was during the 30 mins when the episode was actually airing because as soon as it was over you could expect people to start trying to tear apart the writing, rating the episode, etc.
-
Everyone is entitled with having their own oppinion, but just as that they must be responsible for it, and learn to let it go when faced with reality or facts, because it stops being an oppinion and becomes a belief, or a certainty, and those aren't good.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
At least in the realm of oppinions of course.

agree with all of this.
At the same time I am still subscribed to Cinema Sins and still (mostly) watch their videos, but the inconsistency is maddening. One cannot claim it all as a satire (where you get obvious joke sins like "Narration") but then try to legitimately nitpick the movie (with more serious sins). Sometimes I hear the ding and "roll credits" in my head when I'm actually watching a movie.
Rule of thumb, I try not to solidify my opinion on a piece of media until I've seen it myself.

It's hilarious that this discussion is happening on this thread, because it is insanely on-topic. All of this started with the AVGN and NC. Now, I'm not saying they are CS bad. Especially AVGN. For the most part, he targeted legitimately awful games, and games being bad are very different from movies being bad. Many others followed in their footsteps, and it led to an era of angry critique being funny and popular. It really started with games, and then went on to movies. This whole mindset of 'nothing is good, and anyone trying to say something is good is making money off of it' has just created a toxic mindset of "Liking something is either lame or a lie".
It reminds me of two co-workers I have. Both of them are huge horror fans, much like me. One of them is really joyful about horror, even if it's bad and she knows it's bad. Our conversations about any horror movie will combinations "I really liked it when ____", "I had issues with ____", "Overall I'd say _____". And even if we don't agree entirely, we saw the same movie and took both our own opinions and each others.
My other co-worker? Name a horror movie within the past ten years. He'll roll his eyes. And majority of the time, he hasn't seen it. He just KNOWS that horror movies nowadays suck, and every time he sees one, it just 'validates his opinion'. And… I don't want to talk to him about anything. Because disliking everything doesn't make you cool. It makes you boring.

All I need to know about CinemaSins is that they have no idea what the fucking Kuleshov effect is.
"On page two, she's eating peanuts, but then later she's wearing a hat. Does that make sense?"
also that self-owning rant by Jeremy at the end of the "Sustaining Stupidity" video is just beautifully ironic chef-kisses
