@AvocadoInTheRain:
Chopper is comically small. Carrot is still the size of a normal person, it just happens to be a size we don't see much in the manga. We actually see more comically small characters than we see normal people that are smaller than Luffy.
I fail to see the significance. I'm sensing a pattern here.
This is the arc where they take an emperor head on. You really think half the crew is just going to disappear?
They already did that, with half the crew (not to completion, but they replaced the crew with other allies which seems to be a recurring pattern since Dressrosa). Besides, we're talking about a guy that half the Supernovas have a boner for, and I've already made my prediction how that's going to shake out.
What is this nonsense that you're blithering on about? Shanks losing his arm is probably one of the most important events in the entire story. It's the climax of the main character's origin story. Its Luffy's uncle Ben. It doesn't matter if one got better, and the other retired, both events serve the same narative purpose for Luffy and Sanji.
Okay, let me explain that more slowly since you failed to grasp it. Shanks could have lost both arms, or a leg, or both legs, didn't matter worth a good goddamn. Zeff, on the other hand, lived for his famous kicks and retired after the loss. Pretty big slappin' difference there. Shanks could have just gotten huge toothmark scars in him to go with his shiner from Blackbeard, would have served the same purpose of shocking Luffy into staying home til he was grown. I could leave it at one lost a leg and one lost an arm but it goes deeper than that and I can't help that you're not understanding that.
Hiriluk blew himself up to absolve Chopper of guilt (for having poisoned him) not to inspire him. Pedro did so because he believed that bringing about "the dawn" was more important than his life and was willing to sacrifice himself for that cause. Those two situations are completely different. The only similarity is that an explosion occurs.
It served the exact same purpose, to not give up and carry on regardless of feelings of guilt or loss. For crying out loud, now who's nitpicking? I thought I was pedantic, but for hell's sake, man. They both passed on the torch, shall we agree on THAT at least? In that sense Shanks and Zeff DEFINITELY had differing goals for their respective wards. Shanks didn't want to be Pirate King while Luffy does, and saved him out of friendship. Zeff wanted to find All Blue and Sanji did too, but Zeff didn't know Sanji from a moldy potato at the bottom of the bag of food he gave him. Same loss of a limb, totally different motivations. Are we done yet?
@Kdom:
Are you really calling Rose of Versailles an esoteric reference ?
Never heard of it and don't give enough of a crap to look it up.
