Truly sucks and the fact that the collections sets are pretty close to the voyages is pretty bad and shows just how slowly FUNiation is releasing these sets.

Oh well, my daughter and I couldn't hold out any longer. Started Fishman Island this week. Hopefully we can make the 100 episodes last until Punk Hazard comes in November/December. Should be doable if we only watch 1 episode a day!!
Fingers crossed for confirmation in November solicitations next week!
-
I really hope that Season 10, Voyage 1 will be released in November, but if there is any One Piece releasing in November, I am betting that it will just be Collection 23. No doubt, they will probably start releasing Season 10 next year, and after they have finished re-releasing all the episodes to the end of the Fishman Island arc again. But in saying that, they can only release one more collection before they HAVE to release new material, since Collection 22 takes us through to Voyage 2 of Season 9. Collection 23 would take us through to Voyage 4 of Season 9. Then there will be only one voyage left to re-release. It still doesn't make sense why they are taking so long to release new episodes though since from past Tweets, they started doing the Punk Hazard arc as of June 2017.

Fishman Island is only 51 episodes.
I wouldn't get your hopes up for November. Next year seems likely. Maybe. -

I wouldn't get your hopes up for November. Next year seems likely. Maybe. My bad I was looking at 625 which was the end of Punk Hazard rather than 575 which was the end of Fishman Island.
Oh well! Looks like we'll just marathon this and take another break before PH!

If the series doesn't return NEXT year I'm done with FUNi.

No way they'd go a year and a half on break, would they? Yeah. I'd cancel my Elite subscription and send them an angry email, too.
I'm betting on December or January, but gosh I hope November comes through for us. This is getting ridiculous. Half a year between seasons where all they have to do is dub in voices? Jeez.
-
Well yeah I mean I perfectly understand the hiatus we've had up until now and I've been patient about it. But if we go into next year and don't even have any news I'm going to start losing that patience. Hopefully this is just a fan's impatience talking and we get some info in the next month or two.

One Piece Collection 23 (episodes 541 - 563) is coming out in November 13th.
-
What does Collection 23 cover?
-
What does Collection 23 cover?
It's covers the rest of the Fisher Tiger/Otohime flashback to the point of the beginning of the final battle of Luffy vs. Hordy.
-
In that case, the next collection after that (24) would cover everything to the end of Fishman Island, and the Straw Hats' ascent into the New World. At which point the collections would have caught up with the individual releases.
I know I said this during the break between seasons 8 and 9, but I get the feeling this is the end of the voyages. Perhaps they're using this break in voyage releases to dub much further ahead, and the collections (with roughly 24 episodes) will be the new standard of release.
-
The only problem it wouldn't make sense to release a 11 episode collection Since the next collection would cover the final volume of Season 9 and the first volume of Season 10.

Actually to some degree this makes sense…you're still getting the amount of episodes you would have if you bought the Season releases BUT from 25 on it would be double the episodes. It's also logically since the Season Sets are only available for a limited time and then are completely phased out with the Collection releases which honestly seemed a bit redundant in the first place.
-
I see now. The collections, since they incorporate two voyages per set, are in an odd spot now. Collection 24 would have the end of Fishman Island and the beginning of Punk Hazard (which would be Season 10 Voyage 1).
I wonder if the delay in information is because FUNi's marketing department is trying to figure out the best way to move forward. With Collection 23 coming out in November, we thus far have no announcements regarding the next voyage release. I don't believe we've ever been so close before in these releases. They likely won't release an 11-episode collection. But where do we go from here? One of these releases will have to stop.

Okay, so moving to collection-sized releases sounds awesome to me. That'd be a good way to catch up if they kept a steady pace, too; I'd love to have larger sets now that the pacing has slowed to a crawl, and it'll cut down on the amount of money and shelf-space I spend on Dressrosa… Haha. I'd be very down with that. But, if true, it also means we're not getting a release in November.
Here's the cover:
-
I doubt they are going to stop the voyages.
-
I doubt they are going to stop the voyages.
Actually, I wouldn't be so sure.
I never took into account that a consoladation from the voyage sets to the collection sets could be the reason for this recent slow down. But it makes sense, as a few of you have pointed out, if Funimation were to have 24-26 episode sets released quarterly as the new norm, they would obviously need extra time in advance to do so. Kaze's release in France initially had 12-14 episode sets, then once they had enough of a backlog of episodes dubbed, they started releasing 20-30 episode sets, starting with Thriller Bark I think. Maybe this is finally happening with us?
Sure, it would be sad for people who have collected the voyage sets (myself included) to have an inconsistent collection of releases, but I think it would be good for everyone in the long run for Funimation to get caught up to Japan sooner rather than later. Preferably before we're all bones yohoho.
-
As a lot of people were saying, they might just continue releasing the new episodes in 24-25 episode collections, which does seem possible. I know they have already dubbed the entire Punk Hazard arc, so they have quite a few episodes to release. They could have dubbed quite a bit after that already for all we know. The collections have NEVER been this close to the voyages before. Though, if they do abandon the voyages in preference of Collections, then essentially everyone who owns the Season 9, Voyage 5 set will have to re buy all those episodes to get an additional 12 episodes when they release Collection 24.
-
I mean, the cost is about the same, so what does it matter if you’re getting extra dvds?
-
So none of you other voyage collectors the slightest upset that we will have our collections looking weird if they do switch to this format?
-
It’ll be annoying, but the 24 episodes is worth the trade off. Plus, you’re literally saving 50% of spending, since the collections are pretty much the same price as the voyages.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I was double dipping with the collections to support one piece, but I stopped that at collection fifteen, so I’m 7 or so behind. It would be costly at the point to catch up, so I’m waiting for a $15 sale on them.
-
I still think the voyage will continue. Since Fairy Tail is also in a simlar situation as One Piece. Because they got another single volume (Part 23/Fairy Tail Zero) ahead of their collection release (Collection 11), which Fairy Tail Part 23 doesn't have another volume to go with to make a Collection 12 (until probably next year, since the Fairy Tail anime will be starting up again in the fall).
-
I'm actually surprised Funimation didn't begin this a long time ago. Most consumers would rather purchase bigger boxsets, especially for physical media. Takes up less space too. Downside is that we won't see much original cover art from Toei at the request of Funimation.
-
I'd only support Funimation switching to Collections only if they offered a free exchange of all the Voyages we've all purchased for the past decade for the Collections, and cover shipping costs. We've supported them this long paying $30-$50 per 11-13 episodes, so if they wanted to change their format it would be on them to honor the people who have done just that. Otherwise I'd have to sell my entire collection thus far just to repurchase the same episodes and that's more of an annoyance than I'd care for.
Edit: They're actually releasing King's Game on home media? Poor guys, I hate to see them lose more money on one of the worst anime ever.
-
If such a thing happens, I would be annoyed. BUT…I would still support the Collections going forward. Just like Zephray, I double dipped on the Voyages and Collections.
As long as there is little to no price change, I'm all for it.
@LUFFY#1:So none of you other voyage collectors the slightest upset that we will have our collections looking weird if they do switch to this format?
The collections already look weird when Funimation switched from the brown wood theme for seasons 1-3 to the white theme going forward. This wouldn't bug me nearly as much as that did/still does.
-
I mean, that sounds a little extreme… What's so unmanageable about switching format? Remember when the boxart switched each season? And then season four was entirely different, which mucked up how all the voyages looked in a row. Hell, you should see the evolution of the VIZ logo on my OP manga volumes, if inconsistency bothers you. I, for one, would happily take 24-26 episode sets for $30-50 instead of 10-13 episode sets for the same price. Not sure why this change would be so upsetting to folks. Literally getting double the content for the same price.
tl;dr: Anime fans are weird...

I can see why some would be upset, but One Piece, manga and anime, has always had a consistently inconsistent US release format.
I assume it's because the Votage collectors have been sticking with them since 2007 and feel like Funi abandoning that format would be a slight against them. -
Hunter x hunter had a bit where they were selling the usual the usual 12-13 episode box sets. But now they sell in 24 now.
So I mean it isn’t unheard of to switch all together.
-
Ugh, but HxH's releases are so slow because they're letting Toonami air all the episodes first.
-
Voyage artwork has been inconsistent yes, however they've always consistently been the same format. Season Number, Voyage Part. They've carried this branding for 10 years consistently and are well aware that their fanbase is strictly a collector's market. I think it's more than reasonable for people like myself and others in the thread who have a wall of DVDs in this format to not want our "Season 9 Voyage 5" to continue with "Collection 25" after supporting these releases for a decade. Most One Piece fans do not double-dip, they either buy the release when it comes out, or wait for the Collection format so they get more value for their patience. So ending the Voyages would be favoring the fans who waited to give them less money as opposed to the strong fanbase who's continued to buy their releases day 1 since the beginning. Funimation is one of the few companies left (according to their new owner, Sony) that still succeed in home media releases as we live in a digital age that gets stronger by the day; they clearly know their market and what would make their fans upset, so they surely know ending the Voyages this late in the game would cause them more grief than it's worth.
So no, I don't find it extreme at all to say that if they're considering dropping the format that their strong consumer base has supported all this time to demand an exchange to the format they wish for us to conform to. And it's pretty bold to accuse people in this thread of being "Weird" because they have continued to support a native format and have a problem with that format changing. At the end of the day you are not buying anime for the greatest possible value (at that point you automatically lose because Funimation Now and Crunchyroll are much more affordable for much more content), you're buying anime for a collection, and collectors want their collections to be consistent.
Tl;dr - Ending Voyages is a bad idea and would hurt Funimation's One Piece community as a whole.
-
Remember when Dragon Ball Z was released on 3 to 4 episode DVDs? Glad they're moving away from that.
If I purchased One Piece on DVD it would be the bigger boxsets, it just how people consume media these days. I understand why fans might be annoyed but I don't think anyone imagined it continuing to the very end.
These DVDs are becoming redundant anyway with HD streams available. Until they release Blu-Ray boxes I'm not interested.
-

Yeah. It does suck. It at the very least it keeps the series in the mainstream consciousness. Something that series in particular desperately needs given its hiatuses.
I’m not saying they’ll donut like that , but it does happen.

I mean, I'd like my collection to be consistent too, don't get me wrong. I'd prefer if the new voyages just had double the episodes. That would be great (and HxH did it before). And you're not wrong about my boldness in calling people weird; sorry about that. It was rude. But I still hold to the point that you're making it a bigger deal than it is. The packaging isn't the content. You're either buying the sets to support the property and own the content, or you're buying them to look pretty on a shelf. The content and supporting the series is far, far more important to me than how consistent my shelf looks, so yeah, I do think you're being a bit extreme in valuing consistency of your shelf so far above and beyond the other factors.
-
I use to buy One Piece manga Viz version, long before they big catchup. Sometimes my collection looks weird when some volumes are the arc header, but others do not, but at the end of the day its all about supporting.
-
Honestly I just want to own the show. That’s it! Blu rays for the upcoming arc and beyond would be nice as well.
-
As long as it continues to be dubbed and released I don't care about the packaging tbh.

16 chars of exactly.

No one will disagree that the continued release of the series is the most important thing, myself included, but I do stand by everything I said. Though thinking on it, they could have the side of the packaging actually read something like this and make everyone happy:
Collection 25
Season 10 Voyage OneHave one title on top of the other. I don't think anyone would object to a sub-heading, in fact it could be a good way to bridge the gap. And I will say, I do often feel for the poor retailers of anime products who are probably stuck on a "Season 2 Voyage 3" here and a "Season 5 Voyage 4" there hoping and praying that someday someone will buy them. The Collections are the better product for marketing I don't deny that for a second. It just seems unfair to favor the products that started releasing 3 years after many of us started purchasing the series. But I've said all I care to on the subject. I'll continue to purchase the series however Funimation releases it, even if I'm not okay with a decision they could potentially make in that respect. I won't be happy if I have to try to sell my entire collection for $630 just to repurchase all the same episodes again, but it doesn't mean I won't do it.
-
You guys want to know an inconsistency thing that bothered me—the Goodnight Punpun volumes have an ongoing image on their spines, but the sixth volume was straight black, interrupting the image, which continued with volume seven. Now, that’s annoying. OP changing a little text is fine.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---

I’m right there with you. The early volumes also had a nice gold foil that was dropped for the speed up. What’s most annoying about the subtitles is that they clearly gave them up at volume 60, so I’m not sure why they bothered with them at all if they were just going to give up and call the entire second half of one piece “new world arc.” Now, that was a stupid packaging decision.
-
Yeah I definitely had to go back and repurchase all of my One Piece volumes prior to the speed up because I wanted my volumes to match, though I confess I'm an awful person that just took periodic trips to the book store with my receipt and kept returning them going "Oops I bought the wrong 5 books" when really all I was doing was giving them my old copies until they swapped me out completely and I could just buy the newest books I was behind on haha.
Edit: Also I gave the FAQ topic some quality of life improvements. I've alway kept up with the cast lists and product information, but I added some new points about Funimation Now, out of print voyages, and more. Hard to believe I've been updating that topic for nearly a decade now.
-
I wrote a post about this earlier, but forgot to post it. So I'll just say I hope the speculation is wrong so we don't have to keep worrying about this.
-
When do the November solicits drop anyway? Shouldn't we be getting confirmation soon?
What's the general consensus now? If the collections go back to the earlier pacing of 20-24 eps every 3/4 months we should be seeing a collection 24 around March with the first few PH episodes. Is there really any point in Funi releasing the voyages so close? Surely by next summer, they'd end up running the same episodes in parallel anyway??!!
Personally I'd just be happy to see some consistent pacing, at least for 2019. Approx. 100 episodes across 4 collections would get us to 5 years between the japanese airing and english dub! (Instead of the current 6!! ^^) SMH!
-
The collections would probably go on hiatus for at least half a year while the voyages gain some ground.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'm hoping for solicits tomorrow.
-
Have there been any rumors at all of Funimation dubbing past punk hazard?

nope, our only hope of optimism is when MHA season 3 finishes they will finally look at one piece again.

They haven't made a blog post yet, but rightstuf has put them all up on preorder already. Just Collection 23 in November: http://rsani.me/m3072
