No one actually on the border wants the wall. Actual Californians, Arizonians, New Mexicans, and Texans are actually used to seeing brown people and are cool with them.
Its never getting enough funding to actually be built. Pittance for increased border security, but the logistics and expense and scope of actually building a wall make it impossible without Trump ascending to actual God Emporer.
When it was going to be a 5 billion dollar wall that Mexico paid he could convince his sheep base it would happen, but when the actual math and logistics and "negotiating skills" were looked into and put it at 70 billion, plus 200 million a year in upkeep, it was a non-starter. It was never going to happen, but it especially was never going to happen once there were real figures on it.
It's not even going to be approved in the next three years, let alone started.

And hopefully he never does become God Emperor. My point exactly.
Also, it is entirely valid to shit on the wall for being racist - because it fucking is really racist and was thought up under racist assumptions by our racist-ass President* to rile up the racist base of his racist party.
Racist like this?

@Monkey:
A bunch of rural idiots wanting to create a brand new red state out of nowhere might just be lacking some of that same context.
A brand new red state that is going to have an awful economy and would have to depend on Federal programs to survive but would still elect politicians that undermine those programs.
So, you know, a red state.
Uh yeah. because I honestly believe that taxation to build a wall that won't work is a form of theft.
You can disagree if you want to but I stand by that.
Ok, here's the thing.
We all mostly agree on this.
I think we can agree most of us here think the wall is:
A: Completely ineffectual. Anybody who wants to get over or past this thing will be able to do so.
B: Therefore, any money that is spent on it is a complete waste of taxpayer money.
C: It's primary purpose for existing is to pander to the Republican base who voted Trump into office, so the people in charge don't actually care if it won't work.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think everyone here so far is on the same page on these points.
The sticking point here seems to be on whether or not it would actually count as "Theft" to spend our taxpayer dollars on it. I see where you're coming from actually, I follow the logic as to why you see it as theft even if I don't agree.
The way taxation is supposed to work is that you pay into the system but you don't directly dictate what your tax payer dollars get spent on. Politicians do. You just participate in dictating the politicians who get in office by voting.
That's why Republicans who hate so-called "Entitlement" programs still have to pay taxes despite some of their taxes going to these programs. This is why I have to keep paying taxes despite really not liking the ratio of money that goes into our Military vs. Everything else. (We REALLY don't need THAT much military spending. SOME of that can be shaved off and spent better elsewhere…)
Unfortunately, we live in a country where enough people existed who really want a Wall down there voted to get a man who based his entire campaign around this wall as a centerpiece. True, part of it was the lie that Trump gave about getting Mexico to pay for it despite having no actual plan to accomplish that besides "I'm good at business so I can negotiate this", but the point still stands that there is a non-insubstantial chunk of the voting public Republican Base who want this wall to happen.
Sure, these numbers look like a Majority of the country hates the wall, but if you look at these graphs, two groups clearly do want it badly and that's Trump Voters, and the rest of the rank and file Republicans. Also unfortunately, that's the same group who came out in force to vote for Trump when clearly, despite being in the obvious majority in the "The Wall is Stupid" camp, the opposing side clearly didn't come out in enough numbers in the right places to defeat Trump.
This isn't "Theft". They told us what they wanted to do. They wanted to build a wall. Unfortunately, enough of the people who think it's a stupid idea chose to do nothing when they had a chance to in November 2016.
For the record, I don't think I'm changing your mind here nor am I really trying to. It's just, everything I just said it basically how this country handles taxation. You may think morally this counts as theft but legally it doesn't, so that's not really going to go anywhere as part of the overall discussion.
The thing I'm really concerned about here is that this is only a discussion we're having because you seem like… offended that we don't see it the way you do and that we aren't specifically calling it "Theft" and geting up in arms like you do...
Plus, we see the racism angle here, but it's not the only reason we think the wall is stupid and evil even if the Racism angle is totally something worth being part of the conversation.
Ummm yeah…..pretty sure we're not supposed to insult people on a political basis who want peaceful succession
Why not.
something we should all look forward to and embrace in all its forms
Balkanization is a supremely positive concept that has no negative connotations at all, true. I mean you have to be a happy and peaceful concept to be named after the Balkans.
where no one gives a fuck about the real issues like the border wall being paid for with stolen money horded away by the Cheeto Emperor and not because its "wacist".
It's almost like riling up stupid people with racism is an excellent form of robbing them blind behind their backs.
In fact it's a proud tradition in the US.
But I'm a filthy privileged South Indian, cis male, Generation Z'er so what do I know?

1/ Trump invited Putin to the White House, according to Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov. "When our presidents spoke on the phone, Trump suggested having the meeting in Washington at the White House." Ushakov said. "This is quite an interesting, positive idea." During a March 20 phone call, Trump congratulated Putin for his reelection victory and discussed a possible meeting. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that "a number of potential venues, including the White House," were discussed during the phone call. (Washington Post / Bloomberg)

Some local "fun":
‘I ought to kick your a–.’ Governor candidate threatens Boise radio host. Did he mean it?
http://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/election/article207798089.html
Idaho gubernatorial candidate Harley Brown, known for his tough talk, dark humor and foul language, brought those qualities with him last week in an on-air verbal confrontation with Boise radio host Nate Shelman.
Shelman took the threat seriously and contacted police, according to Brown. He told the Idaho Statesman police called him Monday; he will meet with a Boise police detective Tuesday regarding the March 30 incident.
Brown, who lives in Nampa, says he wants to be taken seriously as a candidate. He has run, perennially and unsuccessfully, for several offices over the years. He frequently says he has orders from God to become president of the United States. For proof, he has a 1997 notarized statement from a bishop in Kenya confirming that “God did indeed tell Harley D. Brown that He would make him the Commander in Chief.”
That probably tells you all you need to know about this guy. For the actual incident…
Brown was a guest on KBOI radio’s The Nate Shelman Show on Friday. Shelman told Brown he would not be invited to participate in the station’s April 14 gubernatorial debate because he did not meet the criteria of a serious candidate.
Brown did not take the news well.
“These arrogant people who run the news media decide who they are going to have and not give everybody an equal playing field,” Brown told Shelman. “When that prejudice is directed towards me it pisses me off. I would like to crucify all of them.”
Shelman responded, “I look at it as merciful. To put you on a stage and allow people to, you think laugh with you, but I think people are laughing at you. I do not want to be mean to you Harley. Believe it or not, man, I am trying. I can be mean and I do not want to be mean.”
That upset Brown more, prompting the following profanity-laced exchange:
Brown: “Well, I ought to kick your a– you prejudice son of a b----.”
Shelman: “You are not going to.”
Brown: “I might. You got no bodyguards around you.”
Shelman: “OK, actually that is correct.”
Brown: “So you are the guy who made the decision?”
Shelman: “I am the guy who made the choice.”
Brown: Well, f--- you.
That was the end of the conversation. Brown cut short the interview and left the studio. But it was not the end Brown’s wrath.
Over the weekend, Brown sent two emails to the station, one with the subject line “die m-----f------,” the other with “death wish and mental health hazard.”
In the first email, Brown wrote he “almost kicked the living s--- out of that arrogant bastard. ... I was sitting three feet away from him. ... While I wanted to kill the son of a b---- ... I retained sufficient self discipline and never touched him.”
The second email reads, “Ever since the KBOI incident on Friday, my mind has been dominated by my killer instinct mode, which I can’t seem to be able to shake. ... I’ve decided to get some professional help from VA shrinks.”
Brown told the Statesman on Monday he has since cooled off and did not go to the Veteran’s Affairs medical center for help.

Trump Says He Plans to Order Military to Guard Border
I feel like I'm trending old ground again, but Trump seems particularly stupid and crazy this week. Based on news reports, he's terrified of this caravan (which apparently is part of a annual protest, and is normally turned down), and is treating it like a invading enemy.
This seems more dangerous than usual, and is frankly sad on many levels–the most obvious one being that this is how the President thinks. Another, being that the DACA kids saw this week that a man who said he "cared" about these people is clearly terrified of them and has no idea that, no, this caravan can't use DACA to gain citizenship. Lastly, Trump is still begging for a wall that he has made unreachable thanks to a budget he passed.
This whole episode feels like a cry for help.

There's a lot to take in here, but if I can focus on this…how long was it that people on this very topic were talking about a female shooter? Has it finally happened? This is new, so I assume we don't know everything yet.
Edit: Okay, YEAH, it was like a few days ago. I was thinking of quoting the post...but actually it might be best not to.
Well, if I know the media well enough, they'll definitely emphasize and focus on the fact that she was a woman, rather then her being like her male counterparts in being a far-right loonie.
Female shooters aren't unheard of, it's that the crazed young loner looking to gun down crowds tends to be a male profile. Those being the sort of shooters that cause and perpetuate the high death toll rampages.

Wisconsin being red as it has lately never entirely made sense. It's not even really a rust belt state like Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania in terms of Trump voting Midwest(ish) states. So it's not like it fits the profile of that sort of "ECONOMIC DISTRESS BLUE COLLAR TRUMPER" thing.
The Republicans have been holding it at an unnatural strain, that shit will rubber band back in their faces soon enough. It's nice to see it start happening.
