You know, I actually think my problem with :re isn´t how many characters we keep getting, but the fact that I have no fucking clue about what kind of relation the characters have with one another.
How does Twin sister number 1 knows Nishio?

Aogiri Tree look even more pathetic in RE: Owl easily takes out their 2nd strongest member and then he himself get his ass kicked by Mutsuki a girl who could barely even form her kagune until her torture. The more this manga goes on the more Ishida shits on Eto what a joke she's become in RE:
-
He shits on most of his characters and established power structures, tbh. Mutsuki beating an opponent who in turn had effortlessly killed off Tatara; the whole Amon fiasco, the strange storyline with Miza getting killed, then revealed still alive but Naki having given his life for her, only for next chapter being revealed alive as well because he did just pretend but with both of them almost getting killed again in the same chapter; the countless and increasingly annoying last minute saves, the addition of pointless new characters who should have no business whatsoever being there; or Akira wanting to eliminate Owl, has to be saved by Mutsuki from getting killed by him and now suddenly giving her life (yeah i know she will survive but honestly these wounds should have been fatal) for Owl out of nowhere. And thats only from the last couple chapters.
I think the author really doesnt give a damn anymore, just writing the story on the spot going from week to week. Really strange and sad what has become of this once pretty great manga.

Couldn't agree more with you nearly nailed everything I have problem with this manga.

Can someone tell me what I've been reading? I don't have the energy…

I actually have to go to the Tokyo Ghoul Reddit and someone there can usually summarize the chapters. It's all so confusing to look at.
-
It's sad that a series that had such potential has devolved into such an incomprehensible mess.
-
By this point, I would actually rather have an Tokyo Ghoul Root ?? if they do another season of the anime. Re is just embarrassing with how badly it's turned out.
-
What a mess of a chapter and arc this manga used to be good.
-
What am I supposed to think of this manga?????? One moment, it looks like the author knows what he's doing; the next, its a fucking mess. Bravo Ishida Sui, bravo.
-
Okay, this was like 30% CCG Stupid stuff, 20% Loveable Suzuya, 20% Loveable Qs, 20% Goat Hype and 10% WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!

Happy 100th Chapter. -
With Xmas break upon looks like it's the perfect time to drop this sack of shit.
-
Really disappointing. I can't help but like all of these cooldown chapters, especially when we see characters we actually care about, but I know we're gonna have to go back to another 20 chapters with endless dull fights all over again. It seems Ishida can't help but make every single arc an invasion arc, where 'cool' characters fight other even 'cooler' characters. I hate to admit how much TG declined in quality, but I should have seen this coming. The final arc of the original series (the anteiku invasion) was basically the Return of the Jedi/rescue Sasuke arc of this series.
-
I wouldn't compare Return of the Jedi with Rescue Sasuke or any other arc post Search for Tsunade.

Well…ROTJ has the big ending going for it, but its also marked a decline in Lucas SW. If you hear the Redlettermedia commentary, they point out some of the decline to be hinted at, for example, the Obi Wan scene is all shot-reverse shot. Yeah, maybe nuruto isn't as great, but my point is that the Anteiku raid arc is where the series started to go downhill, but at the time it was still good enough to forgive and enjoy. It had great moments, and it really brought the manga to a great close, but some of the flaws, such as lazier art work and endless fights with characters I don't really care about.

I was comparing Star Wars with Naruto, not Tokyo Ghoul.

Well, yeah i agree sw>neruto, but i was trying to clarify what i meant when i brought up the two in the context of discussing tokyo ghoul.
-
Still, that is the same to imply that Rescue Sasuke was any good.
-
Haha re so bad people rather talk about Naruto.

Poster for upcoming Tokyo Ghoul live-adaptation movie:
-
Gyaaaah! Saiko!
Who would have thought that her Kagune was so special ? I was expecting some kind of big hammer and monstrous mouth. But damn, she can choose any shape. I like the character even more now. (As you can tell). The more I read this manga the more I'm considering buying the whole series one day.
-
Just binged the entire series, and I definitely felt like the original manga made more sense than Re. The sheer number of characters and info packed into every sequence… I practically need to consult a wiki every time someone is mentioned. It feels like, at the end of every arc, you have to read a summary just to make sense of what was going on.
At least the current villain seems pretty neat. Hope he lasts a while.

So Rize has been captured and being farmed once again! Is she ever gonna be anything other than a plot device? So what was the point of Yomo saving her in the original. :re is one of the worst sequels I ever come across.
-
Hey, it's not that bad. It's my weekly dose of edgey and melodrama shitz.

Teaser for upcoming live-adaptation movie:
-
Touka is the best thing to come out of Tokyo Ghoul.
-
But Touka was always more likeable than Ashi.
Chapter had sketchy art, and Mutsuki barely fought vs Touka, like she didnt even try.
-
When did Touka changed back to her original hair again?
-
that was good. I mean TG have its flaws but let's face it this was a good chapter.
-
U guys think it was as good as Guts/Casca scene?
When I saw Toukas reaction the moment Kaneki pierced her I was laughing for 5 mins.
-
Nowhere near as good. Caska was a well developed character whose presence was felt throughout the golden age arc. Touka has been dumped for 90% of Re and that her one big contribution this whole series was to make Kaneki feel better about himself using her vagina feels very icky. The whole sex scene just feels forced like the author wanted to draw something kinky and daring opposed to writing the story that gives the characters any meaningful development.
-
^^ I agree.
I feel like Ishida thought that he had given her enough characterization during the first part and expected that to be enough. He neglected her a lot during :re.
Maybe he just wanted to get this on with so he can get to the final part of the story. -

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

F-Fu.. you're right.
As much as I worship Touka as a character I have to agree with you she needed more development.
Then again, comparing Berserk and TG should never be a thing. For me I thought both Ken and Touka carried TG so I'm perfectly fine with this chapter.

To me, this chapter really brought the problems I have with Re: to the forefront.
Touka's absence did not start with Re:. Although I haven't reread Tokyo Ghoul since Re: started, I feel like Touka was sidelined for the majority of the post Aogiri Tree raid portion of the story. Quite frankly, this applies to most of the cast of the original Tokyo Ghoul.
Also, for most of Re:, Kaneki may as well have been a different character. I mean, he acted like Kaneki, had the same hobbies, talked the same way, etc., but he rarely interacted with any of the same characters from the original series. What I enjoyed the most about Kaneki was watching his relationships with the cast grow as he went further and further into the world of ghouls. Then Re: resets him to Haise, and he now interacts with an entirely different cast, a cast that I was never fully able to connect to. I honestly still don't care about the Q's, except maybe Shirazu, or the other CCG cast barring Akira. So I've spent most of Re: waiting for him to meet back up with the old cast I actually enjoyed watching Kaneki interact with, especially Touka, and actually feel like Kaneki again. Now we finally have that, and honestly this where I feel Kaneki should have been roughly one arc after the end of Tokyo Ghoul.
So now we're trying to build on a relationship of characters we've barely seen onscreen together for two years real-time (and roughly the same in series time), one of which we have barely seen at all and the other who went on an overly long detour in character development to get to the point he should have been at least a year and a half ago, and I frankly have a hard time caring.
tldr: Too Little, Too Late
Honestly, Re: as a whole has felt rushed/mishandled at best and a complete mess at worst. As someone with a soft spot for the "normal person ends up involved in the circumstances of a secret and/or dark parallel society" entry point for stories (e.g. early Bleach, Harry Potter), I really enjoyed most of Tokyo Ghoul, and it was one of my favorite weekly series to follow. If anyone can explain to me how Re: has been a positive progression of the original Tokyo Ghoul, I would really appreciate it.

Damn, that actually looks pretty great and very faithful to the manga. It looks like they skip the fight with Nishiki and jump directly into Mado's arc. I don't mind.
The latest chapter reminded me how great this manga is at developing its characters. I remember when everyone (including me) hated Urie. He became so reliable now that he had all those experiences.

Hmmmmmmm!!!!! WTF ?!
Classic Tokyo Ghoul reveal that forces you to reread the whole series again to get how important it is.
Not that I mind  -
