Not to mention being trapped in a collapsing and exploding laboratory during that time frame with a killer gas fossilizing everything to oblivion.

I don't think anyone is trying to 100% connivance you of it, literally before the BW cover story there were members of BW believed to be dead that were in fact alive so time ain't no issue.
The cube itself in the volume release is not covered or pooling/leaking blood over like a stabbed heart would do since it would keep splirting out, stake isn't covered in any noticeable blood.
Monet herself has the advantages of Logia disposition to her advantage so explosion or even collapsing buildings matter not, of and CC so deadly gas that failed to kill even fodder marine folks and can be freed if she is so much knocked over and the shell is broken.
Its not impossible for her to survive considering no matter what its still OP and she a hot woman so their the possibility.
But I got to put the caveat that no one here actually cares for Monet.

He “died” in chapter 548 and appeared on the cover alive in chapter 666.

Could have just been her endurance giving out and falling do to Zoro wounds, having her heart disturbed in the cube.

Well, we all agree that Monet's death is heavily implied there. But, seriously, that's it… First, there is a huge difference between implicitly and explicitly - Monet is NOT killed explicitly! - and more importantly, second, that's just how Oda works: Killing off characters implicitly all the time who then just live on nevertheless.
We've already got a cover story for Dressrosa characters. Do you think he'll go backwards and give a cover story for Punk Hazard Characters? Has that ever happened before? Cover stories being given out of order of the events of the story? I don't think we're getting a Punk Hazard cover story.
Considering how we've had cover stories for Baroque Works (which connected Little Garden and Alabasta) and Gedatsu (which connected Skypiea and Alabasta), it is very possible to get another cover story focused on Dressrosa and even back to Punk Hazard. And considering all of the parallels between Alabasta/Baroque Works and Dressrosa/Donquixote Pirates, it would be weird if the latter didn't get their own dedicated cover story. Jinbe also starred in two cover stories (the start of Caribou's and his Poneglyph discovery), likely to still keep his existence and promise to Luffy in fan's minds in-between Fishman Island and Totland, and come up with a proper segue for his entrance in Totland (handing over a Poneglyph to Big Mom).
I think the only reason why Oda is choosing to do a Grand Fleet cover story before a Donquixote Pirates cover story is due to the timing of the Reverie apparently starting right after Whole Cake Island ends. The Happo Navy and Dwarves attending the Reverie are plot threads he needed to set up here since there's always around a couple dozen filler chapter covers between each cover story dedicated to fan requests. The next cover story after this current one is bound to be during Wano Country. And what do you know, doesn't that timing "coincidentally" fit the showcasing of a cover story dedicated to a former allied crew of Kaido's? Assuming there isn't an extra surprise arc before then. This cover story might not even be out of order if it ties in Caesar, another former ally of Doflamingo and Kaido, if his whereabouts remain unanswered after being freed right after Whole Cake Chateau fell (in which case this would be a cover story connecting a whopping three arcs).
If you think about how lengthy and chock full of characters Dressrosa was, would it really be surprising to see two cover stories spin out of it? Señor Pink is practically the Hachi of the Donquixote Pirates with that flashback of his, so I expect him to get out of that jail sentence somehow if Baby-5 got a free pass. And like Robby's been saying, Oda is the type to definitely milk a sibling relationship like the one Monet and Sugar have, which he's only mentioned in an SBS thus far but still stands out since they have never interacted on-panel even once.

Others might. I am saying she survived because Oda refuse to kill no matter how deadly the blow you take is. So Monet might have been stabbed in the heart but she will survive it anyway.
To be a bit more serious in my response. I pretty much covered why I do not think her death is guaranteed. I am not even considering Oda's philosophy. I pointed out why the sequence seems good as a cover up panel by panel. That's not even taking into account that even without her heart she was able to have the properties of logia users. But some of these reasons have been discarded as "Oda is not perfect".
If you want to analyze the panel further, first we have Clown face almost about to pass out, saying he cannot move, in a last desperate effort to get his way, he stabs the heart. You see his hand shaking, almost as if he could not hold the stake much longer. But to then say, and off panel he lifted his hand again and stabbed the floor thrusting into the ground before he could pass out in peace seem overly complicated. I am saying this as someone that proposed the same explanation a year or so back. It is not that it is impossible. It is just seems oddly specific for an off panel thought.
It is possible, but the same way it is possible that he only stabbed once, and as he attempted to dig deeper into the heart, the stake slipped off from the jelly like substance the cube is made off. And because he was trying to dig deeper when it slips, It gives it enough momentum to get stuck on the floor.

Yes, we got Buggy's cover story before Coby's, and we got Ace's AND Gedatsu's cover stories before we got Baroque Works, and that was then followed by Enel.
(And the Baroque WOrks story didn't start until chapter 349… even though Alabasta had finished back in 217. 132 chapters... and back when arcs were shorter. Dresserossa and all its villains only finished in chapter 801, only 90 chapters back. Punk Hazard ended in 699 so its been a while on that but the two sets are obviously connected. You couldn't show what was happening to the Punk Hazard crew when Dreserossa was basically the next day with the same people involved. )
Since the time skip we've had two different cover stories focusing on minor characters, one on Caribou, and one on Jimbei... the pacing has been off because Punk Hazard/Dreserossa rolled together and made a three year arc which has prevented the typical follow up we would have gotten by now.

The fact people are seriously considering that Oda will ever change his colors on having characters as minor as Monet or Pedro die is funny enough. After Pell and how long he let Bellamy seem dead, anything is possible.
Kind of makes you wonder what they'll do, though? I presume by now the rest of the crew is at Impel Down, so I doubt he'd do a redux of the Baroque Works cover story.
Bellamy and Bentham have never been considered dead though. They were just facing very tough opponents/situations. They weren't more dead than Jack starving at the bottom of the ocean.
On the other hand, Pell and Pagaya have been considered dead, yes.
It was assumed that Doflamingo killed Bellamy for being an embarassment for like, 12 years. It was certainly the implication at the time. And that was at a point in the series where people still actually died sometimes.
Bellamy being alive retroactively pushed the cutoff date for death from "end of Skypeia" to "three shmucks that drank magic water that fought Crocodile." Like a whole two years earlier in the series.
But for how many chapters after his "death" did anyone cry over him? Zero. Pedro has had no less than three instances where it's been brought up all over again, the last one being two chapters ago and nearly 15 chapters after the fact. Unlike nearly anyone else in the series, it's been hammered in incessantly that Pedro's supposed to be dead. On top of that, Sanji still doesn't know because Brook deliberately kept the truth from him. That points to there being some sort of payoff at the end of all this. The more Oda keeps bringing it up and the more complicated he makes the situation with Sanji finding out, the more it seems like he's going somewhere with this, somewhere that ends at the end of this arc, not dragged out to Wano or wherever.

Caribou is just a vessel for information about Poseidon. He might just appear for a bit to give somebody important that information and then stay in a dungeon for the rest of the arc.

Crocodile and Ivankov have history together, so a rather popular theory is that Croc used to be female until Iva changed him and now he doesn't want people to know. This theory is bolstered by his childhood drawing being somewhat ambiguous, and him having his back turned during chapter 0.
I'm not sure how much stock I put into that theory though.

Don't think Oda ever confirmed it. The theory has been floating around since 2011 at least, maybe even earlier.
Damn that is amusingly similar. Never knew the shichibukai were JRPG knockoffs on that level. Putting all my money on Crocomom now. Don't disappoint me Oda.

I feel like the isue some people have with monet surviving is that a good number of the people wanted her to survive, did so she could join the crew. Because she's attractive with logia powers. So when people hear monet is alive, they expect "and she's gonna join" next

What does everybody think the odds are for Katakuri to join the Strawhats as an ally? Probably not in the fleet, but maybe in the same way that Marco will help the Strawhats against Kaido. Katakuri is being pretty friendly with Luffy right now.

I would definitely see it in the final war or something. When all of the people Luffy & co. met throughout their journey will all do something to help, I think Katakuri is going to be there. It does feel that Oda is building him up that way. To be a respectable rival-ally guy.

Luffy told Pekoms back in Zou arc that he'd make Big Mom pirates his subordinates.
I think he'll become some kind of ally.
I think during this arc alone Katakuri will end up as some sort of ally. Though when it comes to the final war there will he no major Emperor forces to join Luffy's side. Well we know that's not entirely true. I fully expect Big Mom, Kaidou, and Shanks to be completely out of the picture during a the series finale. If their best crew members survive and aid Luffy they will not be in their prime. Jozu without his arm and Marco loosing out in 2 wars back to back must have affected him permanently in a negative way somehow.
Having Katakuri join up in his prime almost seems like over kill to me. Of course I am assuming a lot about 3 potential sides to the world war and who will be on each side. I assume after this Big Mom will take heavy losses from outside forces and while many will survive they won't be nearly as capable as they are now when it comes to dealing with threats at the top of the world.
The way I see it, it would depend on what happens after Big Mom eats her cake. Katakuri always struck me as a momma's boy (for some reason) so if his mom's happy, then he wouldn't mind lending Luffy a helping hand against a bigger threat. Even though that would technically put the Yonkou BM on the female support squad next to Hancock and I'm pretty sure there are some who prefer to keep her authority intact.
But that's just my two cents.

I don't think BM will ally herself with Luffy, but I think the BM pirates will crumble. How many times have they stressed that the Big Mom name is in tatters because of the stunts that Luffy pulled? How many of her children have died or defected this arc? Morale and infrastructure took a major hit in Luffy's passage and I think other forces will take advantage of this. Katakuri seeing how Luffy treats him better than his family does could probably push him to leave.
