Oookay and I've just finished the Stormlight books and the first Mistborn Series, and now currently reading/listening to Alloy of Law.
I love Brandon Sanderson. Gosh, why did I not discover his books sooner? His books are everything I've ever been looking for in a fantasy series.
Thoughts on The Way of Kings & Words of Radiance
Oh and sorry to those I offended about Discworld, I'll probably pick it up after I finish everything Brandon Sanderson has ever written.
Speaking only for myself, at any rate, there was no offense taken on the Discworld point; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just legitimate surprise and curiosity, as I really have never heard anything particularly negative about it, and would have been interested to know what people were saying in that vein.
Sanderson is definitely amazing, though. I discovered him when he stood in for Robert Jordan to finish the Wheel of Time series. I've read his Mistborn stuff and what he has of the Stormlight series as well, although I haven't gotten around to reading his other works. My one complaint with him would be the fact that he evidently likes switching from one series to another in terms of what he's working on, so while he's by all accounts quite prolific, it can take a while if you're waiting for some particular series to have its next release.
I recently picked up Gardens of the Moon, Book One of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steen Erikson. I'm only 200 or so pages into it and it's good, albeit quite gloomy. Has anyone read more of the series and can give me some thoughts on the books as a whole?
I can't actually help you on this, but I read that first book myself about a year or so ago now, and was definitely a big fan. From looking into it, I heard good things about the rest of the series, and evidently quite a lot of it (if not all?) is already out, so it doesn't seem like it would be a situation of getting two or three books in then having to wait a decade or so for it to finish, like with some sagas.
