Is the cake going to be in danger as they attempt to load it on a ship and set sail?
Chapter 886 : This Ish The Way I Live

I really don't want Luffy to beat Katakuri right now, but it is appears that's the way from Oda going on from here. I hope at least we get a nice fight.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I love the Charlotte family. I would love if they kill all the Straw Hats and the series focus on them instead.
-

You probably aren't the only one, but I'm betting that's a very small club. Maybe you should be wishing for a spin-off rather than killing the golden goose.

Lol, well then…

We need Luffy to beat Katakuri here. There next destination is Kaido. In theory, we're setting up Luffy's big three (Zoro, Sanji, Jinbei) to take on Kaido's three generals. If Luffy cannot beat Big Mom's commander today, then it becomes inconceivable that the SH pirates can make a dent to Kaido's forces. We need Luffy in the area above first commanders and below emperors, while we need Sanji/Zoro/Jinbei in the area below first commanders so they can still show growth over the series but also remain competitive in future encounters.
/rant
I really liked this chapter. We got to see Sanji be competent and good for once. We got the full moon teaser (finally!). I read an interesting theory that Oda will use the full moon as a way to keep Pedro alive because it'll give him the boost he needs to recover from his wounds. It sounded like a very Oda thing to do, so I'm jumping on board that theory. I also liked Luffy's resolve this chapter. Looks like we're going to get some powerup. I was hoping for awakening, but it looks like Oda is veering toward and observation power up.
-
Thanks for the reaction image, Oda.
-
Chiffons calm smile at the end. She knows that everything will be ok, because her loved ones are here. Highlight of the chap for me (She is so proud xD). I hope Pound can grab a seat on the Firetank ship.
Other highlights are Mr. Prince and the upcoming Carrot action of course.
-
So I just remembered something… Anyone remember the scene on Saboady where Luffy dodged imposter Luffys gunshot? Or later in FI when Luffy dodged Hodys bubble attack? Now maybe it was just speed but I could've sworn that Luffy was using CoO in those instances.
-
I was surprised Chiffon didn’t recognize her father when Oven knew him. I don’t think we have heard all the story
-

I think it was pretty obvious it was CoO and no one questioned about it.
-

Maybe my point was unclear but I brought it up because it's odd that Luffy is questioning if he is able to see a bit into the future as well when he's already done that.
-

Pound said that he was only allowed to see Chiffon and Lola for a bit after they were born. They've never met otherwise.
Oven's older so it makes sense he would know her when Chiffon wouldn't.
-

Observation Haki doesn't initially work like that, it's more of an instinctual thing. Only when you train it to be advanced like Katakuri does can you get vision into the future
-

That's like a fraction of a second like mantra. What Katakuri does is seconds into the future.
-
Oh I just got it, the same way Barto is the comic representation of a One Piece/Straw Hat fan, Pudding is the incarnation of a Sanji fan. They love and hate him.
-
Par Excellence.
I really do prefer action over talk and this chapter was awesome.
Bege rules.
Oh yeah, and really looking forward to WereCarrot.

He used it to sense the attack instantly when it started, to sense the danger, but he didn't flat out see the future like Katakuri does. He did the same against Mihawk during the war.

In case anyone cares about this stuff, the current arc is 5 chapters away from being the 3rd longest in the whole series, after Water 7/Enies Lobby (120) and Dressrosa (102). I used the starting point given at the wikia, although the transition from Zou to Totto Land was very progressive, so the specific chapter chosen is subjective.

I can't wait. It's what Big Mom deserves even though she is not getting physically defeated in this arc. As well as the Swirly Hats for missing 70 or more chapters.
-
I'm excited about the full moon and how it affects minks.
-
I figured it out.
Carrot will basically turn into those vicious Rabbit creatures from Drum Island.:ninja:
-
I knew Sanji was fast, but damn, he made Oven look like a chump.
And Bege is fast becoming one of my favorite characters. Surprise MVP for the arc.
-
@Count:

Definitely! The Four Emperors were the big names that Oda had planned from the start to be Luffy's ultimate obstacles on his path to the top of the pirate world, so they deserve the greatest amount of screen time possible. At least in terms of sheer fun and unpredictability, this arc has been top notch. I can't wait to see how it all links together for the climax: Luffy vs. Katakuri (and the new Haki development foreshadowed this chapter), wereCarrot taking revenge against Perospero for Pedro (again as foreshadowed in this chapter), Bege's awesome confrontation with Oven, some possibility of Sanji fighting, finishing the cake and feeding it to Mama. How the whole affair is going to finally be resolved and in what terms the Straw Hats will be able to leave Totto Land. Can't wait for it! It's just sad how insignificant and forgettable the Germa 66 and Vinsmokes are in all of this. The main friggin' hook that got Sanji and then the Straw Hats involved in the first place ended up being by far the weakest part of the story. Honestly, comparing the Vinsmokes with the Charlottes is like comparing… I don't know, Syrup Village arc with Alabasta arc. Night and day.
-
That Sanji kick was cool. i think it is the first tim Oda used the I did something so fast people did not realize it was me.
Bege sure love his madam. I wonder how and if Sanji will keep his cover.
Pudding is definitely thing about jumping Sanji's bone when everything is done.
Carrot going the sky isn't actually blue on Chopper. I guess we going to see Bersek Mink in a couple of chapter.
So Luffy has recovered. Dogtooth is definitely getting defeated.
For now Sanji's side is the most interesting to me since it has the most unknown.
-
I really liked the pacing of this chapter compared to several moments during this arc. We got just the right amount of focus on transporting the cake out of Cacao Island while making Oven a relevant threat and Bege an emotionally invested player that can hopefully turn the tides. Bege was badass, Sanji looks cool (that disguise really suits him), Chiffon's selflessness was cool, Pound is a caring father, and Oven's motivations make sense in a way that does not make him look evil for the sake of it.
The only thing I don't like is the end of the chapter hinting that Luffy might enhance his Observation Haki. Of all the power-ups to get, that one feels the most meaningless with how on and off Oda writes Observation Haki, as well as how easily overpowered it is. Also, seeing the future feels very un-Luffy-esque since he is always a pridefully spontaneous underdog fighter skilled in stretchy brute force. Hopefully it's only a thought and he simply learns Awakening or advanced Conquerer's or something.
That Sanji kick was cool. i think it is the first tim Oda used the I did something so fast people did not realize it was me.
It's too bad that it barely changed anything about the situation though.

Huh, it really doesn't feel that long to me.

I wonder if all the offscreening happening in this arc is because Oda was told to give the anime team some gaps so they could fill in and gain some time or something like that.
Anyways, I am fully expecting this to happen when the moon comes up:
-
Loving the idea of wereminks! Especially a wererabbit!
-
Great Chapter
I loved the sanji and capone scenes along with chiffons characterization
That carrot hint is either coming up later vs perospero or will come back in wano, I think it'll be in wano regardless but what she does with it will help me figure out what oda is doing with her
Luffy vs Katakuri brought back the hype and I cant wait to see how luffy may beat him -
This chapter was pretty good, and felt sorta bit like a major climax in this arc in a way.
Poor Pound though T.T
Also, I can't wait to see how the night minks change in the full moon! Probably most likely be some kind was "were-animal", but it be interesting if it turns out it was something else.
@MDL:
Thanks for the reaction image, Oda.
Yeah, I loved this reaction image! It's nice to see females getting a nose bleed, instead of the common trope of males having it.
@K.:

That's a nice analogy there! o:

So, was the explosion some sort of special ammunition or COA?
-
That was a fun read, loved Sanji's and Bege's moments, though I'm still hoping we'll get a good one v. one from Sanji and/or a pre-timeskip-esque Mr. Prince moment where he disappears for a bit to screw up the enemy's plans in the background.
kyaaa Rayleigh-sama!Now I'm kinda wondering if Oda mainly gave future vision to Katakuri so that Luffy could end up getting it. Points about Kata not necessary needing his future Haki for the story to go the way it did have been brought up in the past, and I mostly agree with them. Plus, the main kicker about Katakuri's Haki was that he could use it to see where he would get hit and mold himself out of the way, but seeing how people are going to attack you is the entire point of REGULAR observation (well, that and magic people radar). Would anyone have a problem with it if Katakuri didn't have special Obseravtion but was avoiding attacks the exact same way?
And on Luffy getting it…I'll personally be fine with it if we get some sort of rule/limit on how it works once Luffy uses it. You can't control what is shown to you. There's some kind of video game-like cooldown on its usage. It drains your Haki so fast we can actually see that happening in the manga outside of G4. Something along those lines.
-
@Count:
It's too bad that it barely changed anything about the situation though.
I do like my great action scenes wether they are useful or not. There is those 2 pages on Dressrosa where Dofla dodge Law attack, do a flip to kick him and in the same motion shout him with a string bullet. Totally over the top in the intricacies of movement but I love that stuff. It is probably my favorite piece of choreography of the arc.
Also we could totally have cut there and us wondering how Sanji would het out of helping Chiffon without showing himself and discuss it for weeks. Now they are at the shore and there is some viable option.

Honestly while it seems a given that Luffy will learn awakening, having something like an "area control" power doesn't fit with how Luffy fights to me at all.

@.access:
Violence, maybe. His way of saving his wife taken hostage is shooting the person holding her in the face instead of complying to their demands. Bege is a person who entered a Yonkou territory and tried to kill her while her whole crew was surrounding him because of the thrills. He doesn't have a hidden agenda, he just likes to attack big names because it is fun. He isn't the kind of person who respect authority or fear power, he will protect those he care about and his family but he will do it in the most offensive and violent. I think that's the whole thing about his way of living (and I think that panel deserved to be much bigger).
That said, I think it is sad he is apparently going to fight Oven while Luffy got Katakuri (and after fighting Cracker). But I suppose Smoothie is not going to ever take action, so Oven is probably the next best thing.
I guess that makes sense. 'I'll definitely save my wife but I'll do it my way, with violence'. That's pretty cool.
Oven is katakuri's twin right? He should be pretty strong.
@Leather-Rebeld-:

I'm with you but this is actually the second time i feel that way. The first one is with doffy family. First time i care about the enemy's crew and want oda to make a spin off of them.

Finally 884 is gone!
ON-Topic:
So, this means Moon becomes minks crazy and irracional? -
@Sibersk:
Pound said that he was only allowed to see Chiffon and Lola for a bit after they were born. They've never met otherwise.
Rly? I don't remember that info. Which it is quite hard that to happen, only puberts are held in the castle.
Regular chapter, Sanji doesn't matter to me, Bege was portraying "Big Father" title nicely, Oven got screentime i'm glad, and Pudding pic was fun xd
I didn't think that Oda could make Haki more flawed, i was wrong, now's shonen mainstream without differences.
Katakuri!!!!! Beat Guffy, and Brulee! don't meddle on that fight, your love is strong and can make mah boi fall.
-
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE HERE.
But I'll just leave this here folks…
"All 1 Billion Berries of him...!"
Dat powaa level

If Sanji is that fast, why does he suck terribly at fighting?
-
If Sanji is that fast, why does he suck terribly at fighting?
The same reason he probably sucks terribly with women. He lacks endurance.
-
If Sanji is that fast, why does he suck terribly at fighting?
Because he's the only idiot that doesn't use his hands at the New World, and because Oda hates women and he's a gentleman, so all that negativity goes to him xD
Great point there, Screwtape, Dragon is by now the most powerful man evah.

What an amazing chapter. Loved every part of it. Except the cover page. I don't care how cool they look Oda, I won't appreciate any of them until Jimbe shows up in one of them.
The cart is so cute.
Chiffon did a great job at standing up against Oven. I really like how strong she is considering the abuse she received from her mother. It was specially touching when she asked to be avenged by Bege and the Firetank pirates. Pound is such a great boxer. Loved his shadow boxing.
I love the fact that Bege uses canon balls as bullets. There are so many useful ways to use his ability. I wonder how much we will see from his fight with Oven. Badass Bege, badass. So they will put up a fight, I wonder where the Sunny currently is. I doubt they'd be so close to Cacao Island, so I assume hat they will deal against another separate fleet. However, once they rejoin with Bege both ships can fight it out. Yes Jimbe, it is boring to just run away. So let's see a naval fight and then escape.
Carrot and the full moon. The full moon at Zou was covered. I thought that it would take at least a month before the next one, but the world in One Piece has several moons. This just makes the fight against Kaido that more exciting. Will the struggle last several days, or a week? Will the alliance have to hold out for the full moon to show up. Hmm, not sure about the strength gain Carrot will have. But if that puts her at Perospero's level, then what would the moon do to the Dog and Cat, I'd say it is safe to assume Jack is done for.
Mirror Luffy is on, great stuff. Again confirmation that haki depletes and color observation is affected by it, probably also causes the drain. And Luffy specifically does not want to drain Katakuri from it, he wants him to be at full power to transcend. As I was saying Katakuri is getting whooped and there might be less shenanigans than I thought.
@Count:

I agree, I don't like the proposition of having Luffy achieving what Katakuri has. I don't really see Luffy seeing into the future. However, what he might try to do is use observation haki and armament at the same time, which would cause more drain, but might help him develop his conqueror's. Luffy achieving future sight, would diminish Katakuri's feats.
I had this silly idea of Conquerors imposing the users will, to the extent of overriding observations and even armament. I feel that is a natural progression for that color of haki given what we have already seen.

I'm excited about the full moon and how it affects minks.
To paraphrase Austin Powers, that's when they get randy, baby!

Personally I'm taking Brulee's words about him being in over his head to heart for the time being.

Nope. Oda leaves gaps that a competent anime team could fill in all the time and they never do it well. They also skip on doing actual canon stuff like the cover stories.
In case anyone cares about this stuff, the current arc is 5 chapters away from being the 3rd longest in the whole series, after Water 7/Enies Lobby (120) and Dressrosa (102). That doesn't mean much though, since breaking it down purely by arc completely ignores actual story arc length.
It doesn't count Jaya and Skypeia together, (which is 84)
It only counts Alabasta as Alabasta, instead of Baroque Works entire arc including Whisky Peak and Little Garden. (Aside from Vivi being there Drum is pretty seperate so it shouldn't be included)
Nor does it count Sabondy/Amazon Lilly/Impel Down/War/Aftermath even though those are absolutely super tied together.Oda does roughly 100 chapter 2 year arcs pretty regularly. they're just usually broken up by a couple stops and substories now. Dreserossa may be the longest time on a single location, but that reeeeeeally should have been split in half into a tournament island being one arc and the tontatta and toys being another.
-
If Sanji is that fast, why does he suck terribly at fighting?
He does not. He just happened to get to fight two strongest enemies of two arcs.
If Vergos haki was that good then even Luffy could have had to go Gear Fourt to beat him.
Weakened Doflamingo was a threat to Luffy and Vero was hinted to be monster and above all other seats as he was fighting pirates for 10 years while Seats got comfy on Dressrosa.Daifukus genie looks like buffed up Vergo with beard. Fully clad in CoA andwith spear that reminds me of Vergos bamboo. If we get to see Daifuku vs Sanji then its a bit like continuation of Sanji vs Vergo.
