But why "special" paramecia?
In retrospect, shouldn't we take this as an allusion to his trained observation haki that lets him behave like a logia+ ? That's obviously special, but Oda wouldn't have wanted to explain it at that time.

I wrote an article on what 'special paramecia' might mean and why Luffy might be one to.
That article in particular Naito-san gave me praise for.
I´ve come to think that Kano Kuni is based on the chinese culture by looking at Sai´s ships and the architecture in Kano itself. Would be awesome if Wano (which will be full with japanese references) and Kano country will be joining forces in the end :) (something which in real life will never happened because of mistrusts caused by history)
Greg..do you have any opinion ahout it? :)
Actually, I have a question about Kano Country as well. If it represents China in the same way Wano Country represents Japan, is there a chance that Kaido may have a connection to Kano Country? I only ask since there has been speculation that Kaido and the Beast Pirates are inspired by Genghis Khan and the Mongols. The Mongols conquered China for a while and I believe that they tried to invade Japan a couple times unsuccessfully. And then there is the similarity between Kaido and the Mongol head Kaidu.
My only real doubt here is my lack of accurate history knowledge and Kano Country seeming so minor in the story. I doubt we'll see it explored beyond Sai's cover story, the SBS section, and maybe the Reverie if Sai can even attend in time.

Legend has it that Japan was saved from the Mongol invasion by a "divine wind" named "Kamikaze".

If Kaido and crew are based on Mongols, it will be interesting to see if Oda insertes an allusion to this into the story.

I really don't understand the sarcasm there. :getlost: It was nothing but a suggestion based on the speculation which you posted yourself that Kaido may be based on Genghis Khan and stuff.
Since kamikaze is a part of Japanese folklore there, I suggested that Oda might do an allusion/reference to this. He could do this in various ways, there (obviously) doesn't have to be a "Divine wind destroying Kaido" or something like this.
Edit: Though I have to say the idea of Caesar being more than a supporting character has its advantages.

It was just a joke about how he is a terrible person that should and will never really join based on Caesar's gas equaling wind. I agree with your thoughts.
It could still go either way. A lot of it depends on whether or not the carvings from Enel's sidestory represent their production or not.
I'm really excited because it can go a number of ways!
What I find most shocking and important to how the story wraps up is Katakuri's handling of the patissiers.
The majority of evil things the Charlotte Family has knowingly done were in the realm of being reasonably understandable.
This is because:
- They were being done to evil people/organizations.
- They were being done to people/organizations that invaded, double-crossed her or broke agreements with her and knew the consequences.
- They were under orders from Mom that were related to above reasons.
If anyone takes issue with that sentiment please note my choice of words there ;)
But Katakuri attacking the patissiers was a purely sadistic and evil act.
It's hard to explain that away and make him a redeemable character after that. Even if they wind up being 'okay' that act is still very difficult to sweep under the rug.
SO.
THAT SAID.
I'm not entirely sure whether things can end well with Mom in this arc. It's still possible, but Katakuri has basically pissed in the milkshake of any festivities that might accompany a happy ending with the Charlottes.
Not impossible! I still think it can happen! But…it's a little bit more difficult now...

I do think there is sort of a Mongol vibe with Kaido and his crew, but the culture of the Mongols was pretty different from the Han Chinese even after the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty.
Though if Kaido is a native of Wano, there might be a bit of a nod to the Ainu of Hokkaido…

Watching those videos is bad for your brain. Would not suggest it.
Not to mention their illegality.

So, I didn't say I believe the theory (which I originally proposed a decade ago) but rather i said it depends whether or not they came from the moon or not.
Like most developments in the series, unless I feel strongly about a theory, I try to stay open to pretty much anything.
I believe the moon link is a strong one. But I'm not putting my foot down like I did with Sanji cake, the Mink/Wano connection, or Wano being Momotarou.

Kano?
It's totally China. Has that not been recognized by the English community? No question whatsoever. The 'flower' kanji used is a 花 (ka) but 華 (ka) also means 'flower' but also means 'Chinese'.
Pocket Fruit, Mochi Fruit, Candy Fruit, "squeeze people as juice" fruit, scisors fruit.
If devil fruits aren't a nature related phenomena (If not for their sheer randomness and powers related to human concepts and constructs), then they are the work of deranged minds.
I believe the moon link is a strong one. But I'm not putting my foot down like I did with Sanji cake, the Mink/Wano connection, or Wano being Momotarou.
What's this connection if I may ask? Is it an old theory, or a more current one?
Boom
I thought this link will deliver me to how are produced the swamps in the everglades xdd
Have to say, Mochi changed because fans's reply, it appears like a theme of sensibility… a lesser degree like the change from swastika to a cross in the Whitebeard's crew that can take the toll in all a religion, but still it is.
You're right there, Katakuri's advanced Kenbunshoku giving him a glimpse on the future when almost the whole community of OP readers thought that it was based on reading thoughts, is something that Oda won't change, and i won't complain about it, mostly because Oda does not create unbreakable rules in his universe.
But, the part with Katakuri avoiding damage, making holes to himself to more than dodge, but to laugh on his opponent, even when he doesn't laugh... is edgy. Lucky Oda gave us a wonderful use of the Awakening with him, and that very thing made the chapter less as a failure, now really i can see an advantage for Luffy when his time comes to use it.
Blissed,
Just the fact that mink/Wano were connected in a positive way. This was back on Zou before we knew their connection.
Have to say, Mochi changed because fans's reply
I'm not trying to get you worked up but Oda does not change his story based on fan replies in the way I described here:
That does not happen and that's not my opinion. Anyone who has suggested this is the case is entirely in the wrong.

It's not the first time that we see that. If I recall correctly Kuzan did that too during Marineford battle

Wasn't there also Akainu who was "annoyed by those haki users" (Marco and Vista), who tried to slash him and he just "split apart" for those attacks?
And I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the common things between Cracker and Mr. 3. Thx, Greg! Cracker's "firey" hair is maybe a pun to a "firecracker" (since his hairtail Looks so straight).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Speakin of fire: it took FIRE to make 3's wax soft whereas Cracker's Crackers (teehee) got soft by WATER. But the wax couldn't be eaten though.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The "lit up hair" could also be a coincidence between Cracker and 3. Maybe Oda was just appealed by the idea, that the real Blackbeard lit up the tips of his beard to look more dangerous to his foes.
Can't wait to see a full scale post-TS-BB!

Bege's ship is cool. I hope Kidd's ship will be seen too in the future.
His ship should be called "Iron Maiden". Fits with his magnetic/metal-abilities and it'd fit to Kidd's Hobby (Music - and I assume Kidd likes "metal" ;D).
It's probably been pointed out already, and maybe it's a pointless remark because it's different in Japanese, but the English translation for Bege's ship I've encountered around is "Nostra castello", which is grammatically wrong since "nostra" is a female pronoun while "castello" is a male noun. The correct version would be "Nostro castello".

It's not a translation into english, it's literally what Oda wrote. Oda probably has no idea how word genders work in Romance languages.

Maybe then Greg's connections might be able to get word to one of Oda's editors so they can change it for the tankobon.

It's the same in Japanese (ノストラ・カステロ Nosutora Kasutero), with an A. I think Oda just wanted to make a reference to Cosa Nostra. If he wanted to call the ship "our castle" in Italian, any automatic translator or dictionary would have suggested "nostro" (and not "nostra") because that's the base form of the adjective. I wonder what he uses to translate words into foreign languages.

I may not agree with him on every theory or point he makes, but anyone new to AP should look to CM's points for some well organized thoughts on the series.
I don't know if it's just the casual audience Youtube can garner, but it amazes me the amount of youtubers making OP videos that don't seem to have a basic understanding of the consistencies of Op and the kinds of twists it takes.
It is funny to Point out: While Vivi was in the look-out, Igaram worried how many Things could happen to her. Actually, the SHs witnessed at least 2 of These 3 things.
"You can be kidnapped by a giant bird!" (happened to Luffy, between Morgan's marine base and Buggy's hideout)
"A sniper could shoot you from afar!" (Usoppe didn't believe it, but it is possible - greetings from Auger)
"A Meteor could hit you!" (well, I can't say the SHs witnessed that, but Fujitora is capable of it)
Just like Usoppe's lies, Igaram's worst concerns can come true anytime!

Just wondering if there's some level of agreement on this.
If you could choose from: Raizo, Pell, Gin or Gaimon to be turned into a figure, who would you choose?
Just wondering if there's some level of agreement on this.
If you could choose from: Raizo, Pell, Gin or Gaimon to be turned into a figure, who would you choose?
Just appearance-wise I'd choose Raizo since he has such a unique and fun look that would translate well to a figure.
Customer: Excuse me, could I get new One Piece figurine of character Raizou?
Shop Clerk: He's not here.
C: But I heard you just got…
SC: I swear on the souls of my forefathers, I know nothing of any Raizo!!!
The answer is clear.
No question here. Raizou all the way, the guy's design is great and I'm just sad we couldn't spend much more time with him back in Zou. Hope to see a lot from him and his buddies in Wano (Gaimon would be my other choice though. It's incredible how Oda remembered such a character after the timeskip!)
Just wondering if there's some level of agreement on this.
If you could choose from: Raizo, Pell, Gin or Gaimon to be turned into a figure, who would you choose?
I'd easily pick Gin. I like Gaimon but wouldn't ever want a figure of him. Pell is just okay I guess - Raizo is cool-ish too but I don't like him especially yet. Gin tho would be awesome to have as a figure.
I'll be all over a Raizo figure like a mammoth in a china shop. Wait, I think I said that wrong…
All of them please?
Hard decision. Gin and Pell would look hella cool. Raizo is sooo mainstream. Gaimon it is then, bring him.
@Count:

I just imagined Jack quietly shoping for a new tea-set.
As for the figures, I guess Raizo would be the most interesting one, since his design stands out more on its own even if it's just a simple pose. the others would need some cool poses to stand out.
But for character preference I'd go with Gin, that guy was dope.
Gaimon is great but he's not the most exciting figure.
He'd work better if it was some sort of actual safe or storage box or as one of those very small figurines that come randomly in a closed box, like these ones
!
! Btw, I choose that particular set just to brag.
I once bought two of those little boxes and got both of the special figures. The first one is Dragon (his wanted poster just has ???? as the bounty) and Luffy, but instead of the normal round base he has a gold flag saying "One Piece 10th Anniversary"
Thanks folks! Gave me plenty to mull over!
They need to make a Gaimon chia pet.
I vote Gaimon, there is no bias on the decision.

I think most of us agree that Wano will have 4 seasonal islands. But ever since Brooke talked about them, and we saw four samurais, and with Momo's father being a lord. It always struck me that Wano would have the 4 islands surrounding the main one where the Shogun lives.
Very similar to the government flag.

It is a pity, that you don't consider Katakuri as an special character  I can see him falling here like always happens with villains, but not because some murder display, but rather because Brook and Pedro have stated longlessly that Luffy breaks all the walls and whatever... putting Potato above the Shonen's Hegemony of WCI arc.
It's not the first time that we see that. If I recall correctly Kuzan did that too during Marineford battle
I appreciate the info. But i refer the move as edgy because Katakuri's personality… i can expect that move from Kuzan because he's lazy and from Akainu it can be another situation, where the discussion about Haki levels come into the round, i can see Sakazuki having a more powerful haki than Marco and Vista, and thus negate their Haki.
For sure, Gaimon to the death, btw.
Pell might still be alive in the manga, but it appears that he will always stay dead in our hearts.
@Count:

I am not an expert in Japanese culture, but I find it very unlikely that the Shogun would reside in the same island as any of the 4 lords. The Shogun is supposed to be special, even god-like. And whenever I see a Shogun in other works, you see everyone goibg towards his castle.
I would imagine his island being special because it has all seasons, unlike the ones we have seen beforehand and even the 4 seasonal islands. Given it a deity vibe.

I don't doubt that. It's just that visual depictions of Momotaro usually have Onigashima, the residence of the oni, be an offshore island.

Could be. And IDK what happened to Bege's ship in the NW pre-TS. Some Kind of gravity-thing SHOULD be behind it.

I'd like Gaimon. If he turned into a figure, they could make another use of it, since you can store sth in his box. They could just make his head and Hands and the box would be empty so you can put your stuff in there.
Though Gin would work as a figure. His weapons could be stuck in his Hands and they'd remain rotateable. Would be fun for Players.
Just wondering if there's some level of agreement on this.
If you could choose from: Raizo, Pell, Gin or Gaimon to be turned into a figure, who would you choose?
I guess I'll have to be that guy.
I just loved his design and demeanor from the moment I saw him. And those moments when he chose to sacrifice were nigh perfect.
Oda really didn't do any favors to the character by keeping him alive.
Also, not a fan of big head-small body designs.
2nd choice goes to Gin. If he ain't gonna come back in manga, at least give us a figure.
I guess I'll have to be that guy.
Actually I'll second you. A looooooong time ago when past me didn't know better about Oda and character deaths, I was really touched by his sacrifice scene. In fact it's one of the rare occasions where I'd reckon the anime performed even better than the manga.
Gaimon's design is fun, but more kids-menu-toy fun than figure material. Raizou…Well, no. Not a fan at all of his design.
Could be. And IDK what happened to Bege's ship in the NW pre-TS. Some Kind of gravity-thing SHOULD be behind it.

Ah, that was after the Curly Hats departed from GreenBit. I thought it was somwhere between PH and DR. Thanks for finding it!
Nevertheless, Fujitora is the one to blame for raising the possibility of a meteor-strike.
I'd go with a Pell-figure, if it had a transform-Option. Like if you could attach a beak to his face or Exchange the human arms with claws and wings (in this way he is different from Marco although being a bird-zoan. I'll wait for Laffite's transformations).
I loved Gin's color-Combo though.

Wait… when did I say Katakuri isn't special?
I think this is an issue that's persisted throughout the years.
I say something and ESL posters (not a sleight, you're all rockstars to me) misinterpret what I'm saying.
Katakuri....is.....awesome.
When I say 'special' I mean 'special paramecia' those are Jinbei's words not mine.
And I'm not disagreeing that he is a special paramecia b/c that point is irrefutable.
But.... I'm simply saying that there's no way Oda changed his fruit type due to fan response.
Totally dig Katakuri. I like him as a villain's villain more than anyone in the New World so far I think!
You know how before cora-san we said that Law was a bleach character lost in one piece? I feel like katakuri is a Jojo character lost in one piece.
