Indeed I do. Woops.
-
Bah, I've only just finished the first disc.
All of the new characters introduced this arc keep their laughs, although Caribou's actor doesn't always enunciate it. Decken's speech quirk of "This, I suspect" is also kept. Hoe says "Whaaaale" in English.

Yes, Larry Brantley and Jim Foronda. Interestingly, this was the better of the two commentaries.
EDIT - Holy crap, Larry Brantley was the voice of Wishbone?!? Mind blown.
ā- Update From New Post Merge ---
Remainder of the new voices:
Den - J. Paul Slavens
Otohime - Amanda Lee
Tiger - Gabe Kunda
Papaneel - Clay WheelerDuring the Cocoyashi Village flashback, Josh Martin returns as Yosaku, and Cynthia Cranz returns as Bellmere. However, young Nojiko is voiced by Jad Saxton. Nojiko only whimpers and yells "NAMI!" once, so it's likely they didn't want to bother Tiffany Grant to drive up from Houston to say one word. It was a perfect voice match, though. Also in the flashback, Joel throws us a bone, and we get to hear Arlong's laugh for the first time in the dub.
-
Now, I'm even shocked that Hordy's voice actor was the voice of Wishbone.

Kinda gives new meaning to the dog skin wrap he wearsā¦

The voice of Otohime, Amandee Lee, is apparently the same singer on Youtube who does English covers of various anime songs. I didn't know she also did voice acting as well.

Yes. Interestingly, I believe it's during the Hordy/Decken commentary, the actors mention a large break in between recording the first appearances of their characters (S9V1) and the remainder of the arc (S9V2 and beyond). I wonder if, after Mike McFarland finished the recording for the first 12 episodes, FUNi suddenly landed the simuldub of Attack of Titan Season 2, and that drew Mike away to work on that exclusively for a few months.

Ouchā¦that's ruff.

Wow, I've enjoyed quite a few of her covers. Too bad FUNi isn't dubbing One Piece music anymore.

S9V1 was recorded as far back as July 2016 and V2 seems to have been recorded as far back as January due to new additions to the credits

Well, that explains the hiatus between seasons. Goddamn AoT.
-
Hey all, caught up on my one piece dvd collection again, I guess nothing new announced beyond season 9? At this rate, do you think we will even finish punk hazard next year?
-
The eight week schedule is noticeably worse than the six week one. On the six week schedule, I watch two episodes a week.
It'll take forever to get through this arc and into Punk, but I think we'll get Punk Hazard next year. They're already writing scripts for it, at least.

Even though he's been some characters before, I think that Todd Haberkorn would be a good fit for Caesar. The only real reuccuring role that he has in the show is Kohza and he has only ever appeared again once after Alabasta, so I think that he would be a good fit for Caesar because of that and because of his mainly higher pitched voice

A bit tooo gruff for my tastes you need a slimy kind of guy imo
-
Clearly they should use Haberkorn for Pica and just spike his voice up even higher with computers.
I'd like to see Tatum do another character at some point.
-
No, Pica's gotta be Josh Martin.
-
I gotta say , I'm enjoying the fishman island arc more than I did when it aired. And I have the dub to thank for it !! Anyone else feel the same.

That's what I been saying for the last two voyages. I been enjoying Fishman Island a lot more then I originally did.

I completely agree, the humor especially is good. Marathoning helps too tho

That's probably a huge part of it too as well. It was a slosh fest when it aired.

The NEP at the end of 529 oddly goes silent half way through, did the forget to add Luffy's title narration?

I'm assuming you watched the version put online? For some reason the episode put on Funi's site cuts out before Luffy's narration but on the DVD it is in tact. Not sure what happened thereā¦

I bought Season 9 Voyage 2 and I'm waiting for it to ship but from watching clips of it on YouTube and then the Voyage 3 trailer, I've noticed that they're going for an Arlong type of voice with Hordy where it can get more growly sounding as he says more sinister things. I don't remember if it was like that in the Japanese version but I like it
-
Speaking of arlong (and I'm sure I'm probably not the only one to notice) they gave him his laugh back!! This is pretty much the debut of his laugh in the dub!!

Did mike just not know about the laughs when he dubbed that arc? When did odd laughs start up in the subbed anime?
And I noticed the 529 flub too. Also, whoever said the Nami line about Luffy buying her something was weird is totally right. And the tone of voice used for it was nearly like begging your boyfriend to buy you something.

They'd both be great for Pica. I would also really like to hear both Haberkorn and Tatum voice a new character in One Piece somewhere.

The laughs were always a thing in the japanese version. As for the dub, I believe they weren't used at all until Season 4, with a few exceptions (e.g. Dorry and Broggy)
-
I think they only decided to adapt the laughs when it became high demand and many people (myself included) complained. It's a pretty big staple in the series to not include.
Worth noting though that Arlong was pretty much the first unique laugh. Buggy really didn't develop his until Logue Town I believe off memory.

Isn't the 529 flub not on the DVD?
-
That line would have worked perfectly if she was using it on Sanji. But Luffy? Luffy's more interested in biting a piece of steak than buying anything for Nami. Love Luci Christian but I think this is just a case of poor direction for one line. Overall I have no problems with what Joel does, but I do find that he likes to ham things up a little too much in certain instances. I know they stress on the commentaries about One Piece being cartoony on the surface and with character designs like the three princes I can't argue that, but I feel sometimes they try to be cheesy even in serious situations. I had a bit of an issue with some random fodder lines in the Marineford war as well for similar reasons.

Irritating. I wonder why on earth Mike would think that he should avoid adapting the laughs? Because he didn't like them? Bad adaptation. Bad directing decision. Maybe he just didn't notice them at all (bad directing still, but less so). Oh well.

I don't know. I've been buying the DVDs but watching on the service because of HD. I don't remember which I watched that particular episode on; probably the service.

Yeah. I'd blame the writers for this. The thing that annoys me personally the most is when they use childish insults. It happens every so often, though I can't think of an example now. Kind of absurd to use things like butthead alongside bastard, isn't it? Those are the only times when I feel like I really am watching a cartoon for kids.

The dub of the first 2 episodes of voyage 3 (541 and 543) are available on Funi's site
-
I guess I was right about Season 9, Voyage 3 will be skipping over episode 542 and that it will be 11 episodes.
-
After they skipped the previous crossover episode it was definitely expected.
