Ikoku??? What does that mean
"Mighty Nation", roughly. VIZ translated it like that to match how they did with Dorry and Brogy's similar attack years prior.

Nice! Honestly suprised to see Hawkins in the top twenty, but I'm not complaining.
And speak of the giant's move, could someone please explain to me how how it's different than what Zoro, Mihawk, etc do?

Unlike a flying slash, it pulverizes everything in its path with a circular wave. As you can see King Baum's half was not cut, it disappeared.
Luffy associates Big Mom's attack to giants because he already saw it used in Little Garden when Dorry and Broggy defeated the island eater,

Ohhh, I see it now, thanks for the clarification.
Maybe the reason Katakuri doesn't destroy the Sunny because he thinks is a real cool ship.:ninja:
They need to destory that ship after what the SH's came in and done to them. Their rep is ruined if they have any chances of getting away. They need to completely abolish every trace and chance of SH's from the face of the earth. I know it's for plot's sake that they haven't wrecked the Sunny but you would think that would be a idea after what has happened to Meme team.
Also..Did you guys see this…
The sad thing is….I'm not laughing....

About the ship, it would be pretty cruel for Katakuri to sink it when his underlings are still crossing the mirror lol.
This chapter shows that there are still countless soldiers crossing the mirror one at a time. That alone is enough to explain why the ship was not destroyed yet.
@S.C.:
I would say it is pretty dumb for them not to just burn the ship, but BM probably likes to collect ships of people she crushes, so whatevs.
Sunny is a travel port because of the mirrors inside, only a fool will burn the Ship first, but of course if they get pushed to the wall, they will attempt to destroy it.

For someone who likes to use the word bad writing you should really read what you write lol.
First of all the SH literary lost to BM pirates they escaped and did what they did thanks to former BM members (Capone, jinbe) so if anything BM pirates wrath/ reputation should be first and foremost directed toward them. They were former BM pirates and BM needs to show the fate of anyone that betrays her. You could have a valid argument towards something that actually makes sense at least.
Sometimes using your brain before writing wouldn't harm you. I mean get your facts correctly before writing. Just coming at typing none sense all the time without anything actually backing it up is like you say bad writing.
Finally if are so adamant on getting the ship destroyed then there are better ways to do it. Let's see for example just destroy it in front of the SH right when they arrive to cause an impact. Just destroying the ship for the sake of destroying it is just plain stupid.
Maybe they just don't have anything to start a fire :p
Guys… the reason why Katakuri isn't wrecking the ship is obviously because he wants to join the crew. You heard it here first.
The second most obvious reason, like I have seen other people write, is that it would make sense to ambush them if they reach it, and to make sure they actually go to the ship by not destroying it.
You are not alone!I agree
Katakuri will make some kind of deal at least
After all Big Mum kills more sons than foes
They don't burn the ship because they are all devil fruit users or they live or have a soul because of a devil fruit
It's so clear!!
They can't get back into mirror world if Brulee does not touch them
Katakuri will make some kind of deal at least
He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who makes deals, honestly. Just look at how he immediately shot the threatening organs dealer and how aggressively active he has been in countering every move of the alliance.
A deal would sound more plausible coming from Perospero or Montdor
Am I the only one bugged by how Napoleon's blade seems to change shape?
Am I the only one bugged by how Napoleon's blade seems to change shape?
Oh yeah. It looked more like a cutlass during its first appearance in the Brook rescue.
!
Am I the only one bugged by how Napoleon's blade seems to change shape?
Because of the fact that it is retractable it may be something of a Swiss Army Knife, pulling different blades out depending on the situation.
I think jimnbes first fight as a straw hat will be against katakuri. Nami is going to keep Zeus on a leash, Brooke will come and take care of prometheus given he actually did damage too him back in the treasure room. Chopper is going to have his time to shine against Napoleon which gives Luffy an actual chance against big mom one v one until pudding arrives with the cake.
That GIF is hilarious.

They could just stay in mirror world. They already know where the ship is and just destroy it once they find it's location. It's just plot convenience cause the precious going merry can't be wiped out.

They destroy it for the reason of giving them no hope of getting off the island. Regardless if it is done in front of them or not. You know, there's other things they could be doing like helping out on other chases or actually going to meet the SH's where Big Meme is. That would actually bring real tension. Also it was stated in chapter 870 that the Meme team was going to string up the Fire tank pirates, Germa AND the SH's! So it's not just them going after Bege like you suggested. So I am speaking facts, maybe you need to brainstorm or cluster before posting. lol

This makes absolutely no sense. They're specifically hiding out on the Sunny to give the Straw Hats a surprise attack, to bring them down as quickly as possible. If they destroy the Sunny, the Straw Hats will see it. They'll run. The worst that might happen is that Luffy might get some kind of horrible shock, but the team as a whole will know better than to fully lose ground over the loss of their ship. They'll think of other options - they still have their submarine, for one. And you can't say that the Big Mom Pirates' operation would go more efficiently if Katakuri took his troops somewhere else, because we haven't gotten to where the BM Pirates have caught up to their enemies! You aren't speaking facts, you're complaining about stuff that hasn't even happened yet. And considering that KATAKURI of all people has a good feeling that laying an ambush on the Sunny is what he should be doing, there's no chance his party isn't going to be relevant later down the road.
Wait…is it even possible to ambush people who have observation Haki?
Did it ever occur to anyone that they might just try to destroy the ship next chapter? Manga time is weird so for all we know they might have just walked out of the mirror world 20 seconds ago. Hell, we've even got a panel of soldiers marching out of it.
Of course, I'm still betting on them trying to steal the ship instead of destroying it.
@No:

Ahah I am afraid it is. As seen with the minks ambushing Luffy in the whale forest. But Big Mom's pirates probably don't have this skill.

Exactly right.
People think it's outrageous that Katakuri sits there for two weeks and don't destroy the ship when in manga time the soldiers are still using the mirror to get on the ship.
Also you don't have to destroy a ship to leave it nonfuntional. Wouldn't it be a better trap to mess up the sails or rudders, so they won't notice until it's too late (not to mention easier to do)?

"Destroy the SH's as quickly as possible by laying an ambush around the ship?" When Katakuri is standing on it right in the open? Instead of wasting the ship giving them absolutely no chance of hope whatsoever. The shock from ship destruction causes hesitation from loss of heart and gives Meme team more advantage to capture them. So Katakuri can actually focus on taking Luffy's head like he said. And where are the SH's going to run to when they see their ship destroyed with Meme on their tails? Nowhere! This also allows MORE forces to help with finding Capone..Instead of twiddling thumbs on a ship of some lame rookies whom Katakuri and friends bodied easily off-panel. lol. I post facts when the Meme team wants them strung up for the world to see for the humiliation they caused. Yet we get this lax and timid response from Katakuri. Makes me want to see what's Smoothie doing.

I don't think they need that much troupe to burn a ship. And Dogtooth already got confortable.
@No:
Wait…is it even possible to ambush people who have observation Haki?
It depends of two things, plot and level.
The first one might depend about what Oda wants to do, just like with Ramistar example, it can perfectly be reasonable because Luffy is stupid thus not using it in places or anything despite find someone or battles.
The second is more handful, because there's three levels of hardship within Kenbunshoku, which are:
1-Read the opponent's movements.
2-Locate others.
3-Future sight.
Your usual fodder character can perform 1 easily, the usual important character can perform 1 & 2 depending on Oda's way of action regarding the plot, so it is not a safe matter to speak about, and the third can be done only by Katakuri…
So, for Katakuri, it should be the more appropiate character in the entire universe of One Piece to ambush someone, and still is going to fail because thing one.
I know that people expect Sanji to help with the preparation of the cake but right now I don't see how and why that could happen.
Pudding and Chiffon don't need him to make it. I can't think of a reason Oda could introduce to justify that need.
I think he's more likely to either face Katakuri to retrieve the Sunny or go help Germa 66 escape the island.
He has no reason to help Germa anymore.

I would add that in Big Mom's current state, none of her crew in their right mind would even think of going anywhere near her to cooperate or whatever. It's a much more sound approach to wait at the Sunny if ever the Straw Hats make it there alive - from the point of view and experience of the BM pirates, any rookie team chased by an infuriated cake-crazy Mama is as good as dead after all. Plus of course everything that can be said about the effect of surprise, catching your enemy off-guard and so on, but I think we're fighting a lost cause there.
Actually, the part that's bothering me is how Katakuri and his troops were able to get there so soon when the Straw Hats had such a head start. Based on what we'd seen so far I was convinced that distances in the mirror world matched those of the physical world, eventhough terrain may vary - if there's a 4 mile run from the castle to the Sunny, you have to take it one way or the other. Not to mention how in such a short time Brulee has been able to both let a whole army through the mirrors (10,000 soldiers should take quite some time to mobilize) and accompany a smaller troop all the way to the Sunny when the Straw Hats themselves are getting there as fast as they can. The logical conclusion would be that the mirror world is more a warp zone than a parallel dimension. Yeepeeeee, more f*cked-up Devil Fruit powers… All of this is stretching my suspension of disbelief quite thin :getlost:

…What would be the point in having portal powers if you have to travel the same amount of distance in a similar amount of times the real world? That's not overpowered, it's just common sense to make this ability useful beyond maybe avoiding certain threats. Especially when many series have portal powers that are as simple as instantaneously teleporting from Point A to Point B, so this is actually more creative and balanced. Also, I think you're ignoring all of the Luffys that got shoved into Mirror World for the big entrance at the wedding.

Simple, Brulee's power :) there must be a few mirrors in the Strawhats ship.. in case there was no mirror.. then someone might've put one inside the ship when SH were busy.
The Mirro-World never really seemed like a parallel dimension to me, given its shape and how close together all the mirrors are.
@DEE:

Seafarer knows that. The issue with their complaint is initially believing that the size of the Mirror World is similar to the size of the real world. That the distance from one mirror to another mirror in the Mirror World should be similar to the distance between them in the real world. In which there is no real reason to assume such a thing.
@Kaido:

Precisely.
Aye, portal powers really is the most sensible conclusion and definitely not something new in the vast expanse of fictional stories - the blame lies on me for not considering this angle earlier. The end result - having a squad invade the Sunny - doesn't disturb me. It's just… Well, one more devil fruit to add to the "anything goes" category, I guess. Using mirrors to spy/evade/avoid threats was a given; copying your enemy's moves - including abilities such as flight - or entrapping them in a parallel dimension was cool ; quasi-teleportation for an entire army is beginning to stretch it.
Not that I'll let that ruin the fun. All things considered I prefer by far the Charlotte pirates as potent enemies with rare abilities befitting a Yonkou crew, rather than the conveniently incompetent dimwits we witnessed in the first half of the arc.
Quasi-teleportation is hardly stretching anything we didn't already figure was possible for mirror powers. If anything, being able to copy your enemy when Mr. 2 already exists and instantly transforming creatures are what the stretches are when paired with inter-dimensional travel. But I still don't think the Devil Fruit power theme is as loosely bad as it is with Law and Sugar.

I always considered mirrors portal to be a thing from cartoons. So I can't say I find it surprising. I'm more trouble by the actual pocket dimension than the instant transfer. But I chalk it up to Alice in wonderland.

It is definitely inspired by Through the Looking Glass. But Mirror Worlds are all over the place in fiction too. And they're a good way of visually presenting how somebody with these powers can pick a specific mirror to travel through rather than somehow knowing and choosing a specific mirror to teleport to in their mind.
@Count:

This.
I mean Law was so bad that there had to be explicitly introduced some stamina meter. As if it shouldn't be clear that no DF user can use its power infinety. And no comment on Sugar…
@Count:
But I still don't think the Devil Fruit power theme is as loosely bad as it is with Law and Sugar.
I'm mostly fine with Law.Law at least has the theme of a doctor(replacing things, shocking people, operating room) but Sugar is just all over the place. With Law I can see Oda trying while with sugar he didn't bother.

But shocking people was completely unnecessary with how powerful/versatile he already was, and has no sort of connection to amateur reality warping. It's only relevance is very loosely fitting into the operation theme. Adding some lighting-imbued sword attacks was only a superficial way to make Law's attacks look cooler rather than always doing the same thing (which isn't bad at all when Shambles is so creatively adaptive).
Speaking of Sugar, she would be a good character in a horror video game, where you have to run away from her, or if she catches you, you get changed into a toy, and then it is game over when that happens.
Anyone here expected the Gomu Gomu Fruit do all these kind of things Luffy currently does way back in chapter 1?
@Count:

Well defibrillators are a thing even in operation room and his power seems define by doing anything a doctor can in his room. His power isn't to be reality wraping, his power is to be operationg in his room hence ope for operation.
Like I say it's a stretch and I'm not a fan but at least Oda does try to give a real theme in this case.

I don't think he ever used it with a sword. It's always with his fingers. We know that because against the brother he chose to let the sword go to do it.

They are a thing in operating rooms, but the forms of your attacks need consistency though. The theme of operations fits, but slicing/shifting body parts and shocking people are not related at all. His ability was set up to be reality warping as a quirky take on surgery amputations/transplants, but then that got expanded into whatever fits into doctoring during Dressrosa.
All I really want to know is why the electric/gamma attacks were needed when his normal abilities are overpowered enough as is. It's like Oda really wanted to get an impressive showing out of Doflamingo's resilience like Enel defibrillating his heart back in Skypiea. But that worked a lot better and actually felt somewhat consistent with having electricity powers, it was only used for something different than attacking that time.

I think you might be right. But that's even more random lol.

Not in a trillion years.
Sugar was just a touch and go. No stamina needed tbh

To clarify, my problem isn't with teleportation in itself (on this I agree with you) but with the range of vastly different abilities this single fruit provides (yeah, I'd forgotten about being able to durably change the appearance of animals. That part's definitely one too much, eventhough it allowed for some fun action).
Anyway I do agree Brulee's powers don't come anywhere near Law's or Sugar's on the WTF-meter, and as said earlier I do prefer it that way in the end,with fruit wielders creatively using their powers as opposed to a conveniently incompetent yonkou crew.
Re: Law's electric powers, when he first used Shock back on Punk Hazard I had figured it had to do with element-imbued armament haki, similar to Luffy's Red Hawk. At least it still fitted in the vague surgeon theme and didn't break his fruit more than it already was. I was less sure after we saw Gamma knife, which sadly does nothing that couldn't be achieved with that big-ass sword he carries around and really served just a hype tool.

This.
I think Oda introduced similar concepts earlier in the series, but now that we are farther he can demonstrate how much stronger the abilities can be. Anyone remember Doa, had door dimension too and dude could just walk across the ocean in there…
That's the genius of Oda tho, did he plan doa as a weak version of mirror, or Mirror a stronger doa?
