Punk Hazard is my favorite post-timeskip arc mostly because of Smoker, Cesar, and Law all being front and center.

Because why not:
English Gold and Jive (as clean as possible, with some of the battle sound creeping in and some lines echoed)
English Heart of Gold song (was already 'clean' in the special, but eh) -

Going back and listening to the last few sets worth of commentaries that I've skipped. The second commentary on voyage three of the last season has cole brown. :( sounds like a great guy, and his commentary was actually substantive, too.

Season 9 Voyage 2 trailer:
Neptune and Shirahoshi sound great, Shirahoshi sounds like Jad Saxton to me
-
Wish I could actually watch it. #EUProblems
-
Shirahoshi sounds great in the dub. I mostly can't wait to hear Zeo in the dub.
-
I'm wondering who Neptune is. I saw a comment saying Richard Epcar, who I wanted to play Hordy. So if it is Epcar then my choice for Hordy is Chris Ryan.
-
All sounds great to me. Trailer is kind of shoddy, though; the second half is just one scene. Excited to have Mike back!
-
Who do y'all think is Neptune? It could be Dan Woren(who I predicted), cuz that man is a chameleon.
-
Pretty lame trailer. Focused too much on the palace scene and we didn't hear the voices for Vander Decken or Hody.
-
Jamon jamon jamon jamon jamon-HYPE.
-
I'm assuming the draw of this trailer was the voices and if that's the case it was fine loved shirahoshi's voice and really liked king neptune's voice very similar to the Japanese. Maybe its just me but colleens approach gets better everytime I hear it. She was great before she sounds even better with her performance in film gold heart of gold and this new trailer.
-
Oh my god that trailer was awful. Are they finally at the point where so little happens in 13 episodes that THIS is the best they can cut with it?!
-
That could be, but honestly the One Piece trailers haven't really been all that good since around the start of season 7.
-
Yeah, you can kinda start seeing the point where they stop utilizing quick edits to emphasize the action, and just start plopping whole scenes in.

All topped off with Nami saying "This is a letdown"
Meta Mike confirmed.

well a lot of people say FM Island wasn't a good arc so you know, I guess when making these trailers you can only work with what you're given?
-
I like the new voices.

That's not the issue. The issue is that most of the trailer is only one scene from an episode that appears early in the set.
Given the episodes that are in the set (529-540), there's plenty of good moments to use in the trailer. -
Yeah. We all like to make fun of FI, but the problem here is definitely the editor/creator of the trailer, not the episodes themselves.
Looks like some of the flashback episodes are on here, too.
-
I mean the further explanation of the racist themes that happens in the world of one piece was definitely a welcome one. Though ….SPOILERS!!!!!!!
The result wasn't too satisfactory , and it shouldn't be what you only watch that arc for.

Was replying to another post , and the auto correct really screwed me that time. [emoji13]

Fishman Island isn't as bad of an arc as people try to say it is. Definitely not up there but it has a lot of good themes to it and it has Boss Jimbei and Fisher Tiger. And it gives more background to Arlong and what happened with Nami in the old days.

IMO, the arc is the worst manga-canon arc in the entire series. Its problems are small but pretty numerous tbh, but I think most of the issue comes from the buildup.
Fishman Island was built up since Arlong Park almost as this fierce amazing place. Then when they hit the Post-Enied Lobby stuff, they started teasing FI as the next Island and it wasl ike "OMG, yay! Finally FI!" then Thriller Bark happened, then Sabaody, then Amazon Lilly, then Impel Down, then Marineford, then timeskip… It took way too long for them to FINALLY get there and then when they did, what we got was lackluster so I think it hit a lot of people harder than it should have.
The actual problems with the Arc, IMO, are mostly centered around an already weak villain which is made worse by the Straw Hats being overpowered.
I get that after the Time Skip Oda wanted to show off how awesome the Straw Hats were, but I figured the return to Sabaody and the fight with the Pacifistas/Sentomaru would have accomplished that.... instead, we get another arc where the Straw Hats pretty much tanked everybody with very little effort... which doesn't make for the most compelling drama ever.
Couple that with Hody already being pretty lame... he's just a racist. The theme works overall I suppose, but very unmemorable on how it's handled. Like, I struggle to name members of his crew off the top of my head... Vander Decken is the only memorable one and he wasn't even a member of Hody's crew. Hell, I can't even REMEMBER any of them besides Wadatsumi. Wait, was Wadatsumi even on Hody's crew or Decken's?... I'd look it up but again, that was the point. I should be able to remember this stuff off the top of my head and I can't. I legitimately can't remember a single other bad guy's name in that arc, unless you count the Kracken which I don't... and even then, I can't remember its name. I remember Luffy gave it one, but I don't remember what that was.
Meanwhile, Punk Hazard villain names: Caesar Clown, Vergo, Monet, "Joker" (Doflamingo Alias), Brownbeard, Smiley the Axolotl, and The Yeti Cool Bros.
Doflamingo Pirates' names: Doflamingo, Pika, Sugar, Señor Pink, Trebol, Violet/Viola, Diamante, Rosiante, Dellinger, Baby5, Bellamy
Colosseum Competitor names:
CabbageCavendish, Bartolomeo, Hajrudin, OrlumbusOther Villains: Fujitora
Then we go back to Fishman Island Villain names:
Hody Jones, Vander Decken, Wadatsumi.
I'm sure I missed some on Doflamingo's Crew and Caesar's subbordinates, but I remembered a WHOLE hell of a lot more characters from the Punk Hazard arc and Dressrosa Arc than I did FI.
-
If Fishman Island was half the length, it would be a fine arc. But I disagree that it's the worst; Skypeia is for me because of the heavy focus on fighting (though I do like Eneru more than Hody). At least FI had a focused theme and more plot points (which didn't involve fighting).
But here we go on this again. Let's just say most people agree and a few don't. The end. I'll look forward to moving through it as fast as possible.

I actually agree with you on the arc not delivering on the hype which is why I think it's on the lower list. It's about preference more than anything though. I mean for me Skypiea, Thriller Bark, and Amazon Lilly are some of my least favorites as a whole, not counting some of the earlier arcs that were too short to really complain about (like Buggy's arc being super duper cliche as an example, though since it was early on in the series it's not a huge deal.) Funny thing is that even my least favorite arcs still contain stuff that contributes to the overall series nicely and characters I still really enjoyed (Eneru, Wyper, the theme of Skypiea itself, Kuma, etc.) The issues with those arcs I mentioned were more about being too slow at parts or just not capturing my interest overall.
I would also agree Fishman Island is too long (not as long and drawn out as Dressrosa though, despite that still being a favorite of mine). The arc could have been handled better but for me it worked well enough. Certain characters that were hyped up definitely fell short, but the overall theme of empty racism, while not being the most interesting cup of tea to many, still works because it's realistic. Hody is literally as boring as he's portrayed as and intentionally: Someone who doesn't think for himself and just embodies his crappy environment, who wasn't raised right. While I never-ever want to see his crusty face again (and we likely won't because of what happens to him and his crew), I think he worked fine as a one-off villain.
Definitely agree with you though on Hody and his men being lame. Vander Decken was the only character that somewhat entertained me. What makes the arc passable to me is not so much Hody's racism but what the end of the arc symbolizes with bringing people together of different ethnic backgrounds. That and it introduced Koala.
All that said, I enjoy Punk Hazard and Dressrosa far more so I'll still be looking forward to speeding through Fishman Island.

S9V1 is now listed as "In Stock" on RightStuf. We should be getting copies soon. #fishmanhype
-
Fun. What's the streaming schedule for these episodes? They all go live on release day? Switched my order to Amazon because funimation store is slow and expensive.
-
One Piece Collection 20 is coming out on September 19th.
-
Damn. Guess they are keeping up the two month thing (instead of six weeks). No new voyage in September.
-
Funimation is hosting a One Piece Panel at Anime Expo on July 4th.
Not going to have high expectations, but I hope we get some cool announcements.

The last time they had one at AX was when they acquired the series so there must be some big dub news
-
That's next month!
I hope they get something to show outside of show dubbing skills.
It feels like 10,000 years since they announced something big. (One Piece related.)
Let's hit it outta the ball park!

My copy of S9V1 is shipping out today. Looks like I'll be getting it on Monday.

Is that the one in LA? I went to that the year they announced thriller bark (and film z, I think?).
-
Yeah, as far as I recall, AX will still be hosted in LA.
-
I think they will make some cast announcements, and also license some movies.
-
S9V1 just arrived. Gonna marathon all episodes tonight.
-
What's that? Five hours? Haha. Enjoy, man. I wish I had that sort of time in one night. Let us know how the voices, especially the villains, are.
-
The insert art for Disc 1 was put in upside down. Thus, when you open it, the disc is on the left side. Not sure if this was intentional or not, because Disc 2 is normal like all discs before it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The set uses both versions of the new opening. Episodes 517 and 518 use the alternate version, which has images of the Straw Hats training, and misspells Usopp. The rest of the set uses the opening footage we're used to.

No Decken or Hody actors yet?

-
Shirahoshi's brothers show up at the end of the set so I wonder who their VAs are
-
Huh. New actors. I guess that's a good thing. I'm so tired of hearing the same voices in all the Funimation shows. I'll be curious to hear what they sound like.
