This chapter was like a steak sandwich with poo for bread. Waste of a beginning, waste of an ending, but one helluva middle.
Although the Gear stuff is great and all, Luffy VS Lucci is starting to get really drawn out and Dragon Ball.
Think the Croc and Enel fights took a lot longer than this. Besides, the last couple of chapters have been more about the BC than about Luffy's fight.
Uh, no it wasn't. Croc could:
- Detect water sources.
- Absorb water.
- Create sandstorms.
- Use "pound cannons" with his attacks.
- Make blades out of his sand.
- Fly limited distances.
Aokiji can make ice weapons or touch people and freeze them. Unless Oda gives him a lot of new abilities in a future battle, he's closer to Ener in terms of skill with his fruit. Remember that Croc and Smoker have "weak" Logias, with weird 'elements' like smoke/sand. There's a huge difference between Croc and Smoker, but not that much between Ener and Aokiji, since the latter two both have "critical class" DF's.
Did we really see Aokiji's true ability? or did we see ALL of his abilities?
Although the Gear stuff is great and all, Luffy VS Lucci is starting to get really drawn out and Dragon Ball.
that may be why oda will finish the fight on next chapter.
but seriously, the fight wasn't drawn out for that long. it's the first time i follow a luffy's final battle on a weekly basis and i think it's ok. we saw one gear a chapter (nearly) then back to gear 2 then next chapter is the end. nothing THAT bad, imo.
Again, i find it hillarious how many people seem anti fight scene here. I love fights, as long as they don't overuse eergy blasts (cell saga)
I think it's actually the tension of the BC that is causing people to have so much impatience with Lucci.
Before, with Enel and Croc, you knew that when they went down, things were pretty much over, or at least no greater threats remained. With Lucci, you still have the BC and the giant threat it represents, and the tension of how the Straw Hats are going to get out of this alive, is Ussopp or Robin even going to get a fight, are they going to get improvements also, what is the new ship going to be, etc. There's a ton of stuff to resolve and even a bigger threat than Lucci himself at hand, so that's most likely why people want to move on faster. Well that and alot of people are only just now following this on a weekly basis.
Yeah, I'll admit the fights seem shorter when you're reading them all at once rather than in segments.
That said, I still say Usopp is gonna take care of the BC, so don't worry everybody. Sniper's got it handled.
I think the last chapter was especially good, everybody is waiting only for Luffy, all have already finished their tasks and are watching him, Franky is putting his faith in him, Sogeking fears Lucci is too strong, I think it was absolutely great, the atmosphere with the dark clouds, I liked it.
But it's ggod when the fight ends this week, we'll finally get to know what happens afterwards.
It does remind me of DBZ in that while the fights end up great, following them weekly is murder.
@Voodzik - Have you read Hajime no Ippo? All fighting, no energy blasts :)
I also love a good fight, but i'm also big into the story. I'd like to see the BC go down right after the Luffy vs. Lucci fight, but after seeing Luffy's eyes last chapter, I know for sure that Luffy'll be out of energy after his big finish. That leaves an escape as the next feasible option (or a rescue - but i really don't want to consider a rescue, b/c that'd definitely be a degrade to the story IMO).
The BC has not let down yet, it is even stronger than I expected it to be, so i'm really curious as to how they'll escape when the BC knows they're after the SHs & Nico Robin as well. oh, the mystery!! :p
As for the FF-tachi, as much as i'd like it if a named-character with a fair degree of development in the storyline to kick the bucket, none have so far for the last 400+ chapters, and i doubt Oda will start now. I think I gave up hope on death of these types of characters after Eneru failed to render the named-skypiean shandians into rigor mortis with 20,000,000 volt attacks. I guess that thin air must make their bodies really resistive, like in the 1,000,000,000 ohm range :p
Did we really see Aokiji's true ability? or did we see ALL of his abilities?
I'm holding out to see if he goes "Absolute Zero" sometime (freezing atoms so they basically fall apart d^_^b ).
And this fight really hasn't been that "drawn out." Most of their fight has been broken between other fights and situations, which makes things a bit more interesting than just ten chapters of straight-up fighting.
Absolute Zero….reminds me of Saint Seiya.... Cyrus......
anyway, maybe Aokiji already has that kinda power/move.......he just didn't think it was necessary.......
I'm holding out to see if he goes "Absolute Zero" sometime (freezing atoms so they basically fall apart d^_^b ).
Well we do know that Oda uses science in his story so it could be a possible attack. Still it would result in almost instant death. Like any of his other moves wouldn't kill a person though.
If Aokiji does have absolute zero, then Luffy will HAVE to have more upgrades than just Gears…...... the power difference is still there...

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on supporting characters dying after Pell survived the, like, 5 kilometer, point blank explosion of that bomb that was supposed to take out Alubarna. Wut. The Shandians surviving was equally ridiculous.
The Franky family isn't anything close to dead.
We're in that stage again…the "nothing new to say we need the new chapter badly" stage...
Haha. When Luffy first learned Soru from Blueno, I was hoping deeeeep down that he would eventually take out Lucchi with a Tekkai-Pistol.
Imagine! Both of them ragged out after a more-or-less even fight, then Luffy says I've got one more shot left in me, and Lucchi sniggering at him. Luffy takes his aim, says the same 'thank you for teaching me a new skill' spiel he told Blueno, then fires away.
And just before the hit connects, Lucchi realizes only too late that there's something different about this Pistol. And BANG he's creamed and everyone's happy.
That being said, I know Oda didn't want to let Luffy use weapons in his fights cause it's cooler that way, but imagine how much more powerful Luffy's punches would be if he would only wear a knuckle-duster ala the giant gold ball that was stuck onto his arm in the Skypiea arc.
I mean, yes he's strong and all, but ultimately it's still rubber smashing into you. Give Luffy Tekkai-punches or a nice little knuckle-duster, and let's see who wants to be a smart-alec and Tekkai-Gou-block his punches instead of getting the hell out of the way. =)
But would tekkai fit a rubberman? I'd say of all Rokushiki Kami-e would be the most probable one for luffy to learn next since he can already dodge quite fluently with GG Baka^^
Luffy doesn't need tekkai…......
and I don't think Kami-e would be effective either......
I think Soru is the useful one for Luffy........
Luffy doesn't need tekkai…......
He already has it. Remember when he used Gear 3? He looked like he was using his normal Gomu Gomu no Fuusen but the bullets didn't bounce off him, they were crushed on impact.
It's not a technique Tekkai like how Luffy learned Soru, but it's (in principle) the same effect.

indirectly using a technique that is similiar like tekkai…hmmm....never did though it was like that......
"Bone Balloon is very hard…" --Luffy.
Unfortunately, this will reawaken the dreaded "WILL SANJI LERN RANKYAKU ZOMG WAFFL" debate.

Actually, I think in this arc the SHs have all learned techniques that make roushiki obsolete. I mean the six forms at their most basic point are: "perfect" dodging, blocking/resilence, jumping, close range attack, and long range attack. The Shs have shown counters for all of these and broken there techniques time and time again.
Gear 2, Monster point, and Zoro's Ashura among others are good examples of this.
Though I would like to see a long range kick for Sanji–how could would kicking fireballs or flamethrowers be?
As for Luffy w/ Tekkai, I have a theory that one day Luffy win make a gear involving condensing rubber, resulting in super resilence and strength.

Hah, yeah. That's what I originally thought Gear 3 was (Luffy condensing his body for added strength and "punching through" power), hence the chibi.

Oh, I think he'll still do something like that one day. For the gears, we just have to think of ways to manipulate the form of rubber and we'll have invented a gear. I'm thinking about what happens when you condense rubber.
hey guys, I was just thinking, a little off topic, but how can luffy drown if he's a Rubber Man? Isn't rubber buoyant?
anyways, can't wait to see how Luffy Finishes Lucci
it would be crazy though, if Luffy lost
Does the spoiler generally come out in the morning? Or will I have to wait till after…school shudder
UsoppKing: I'd think the Devil Fruit sinking-in-water thing kind of overrules that, otherwise Enel would be fine in water since it conducts electricity. I can't think of more off the top of my head, but it would just kill the only disadvantage to DFs.

Well this really depends on where you live. It usually comes out here around Tuesday night, 1-2 AM MDT (7-8 AM GMT)
Well technically the easiest way to beat Aokiji is to get him to fight Fire Fist Ace. But that just cheapens Luffy for not being able to fight against Aokiji himself again.
I'd LOVE to see Aokiji fight Fire Fist Ace.

I don't think the Franky family is dead, I believe that they fell into the waterfall and that leads to Impel Down since Impel Down is a submarine prison.
Well we do know that Oda uses science in his story so it could be a possible attack. Still it would result in almost instant death. Like any of his other moves wouldn't kill a person though.
True, though I could see him using it on ships, buildings, etc., if the need were to arise in the future (blatantly points out the fact that he wants to see Aokiji do this).

That would be even worse than being dead. I would rather die than to be tortured in a submarine prison.
I'm sure Aokiji, like Enel and Croc before him, will turn out to have a plethora of moves at his disposal that will be cool and a problem for luffy.
But I WILL keep bringing this up. Luffy's powers don't look like a good counter for Ao Kiji. Usopp, on the other hand, is known to use fire.
And what way to become a brave warrior of the sea than to defeat one of it's greatest fighters?
Fire alone won't stop kiji. I doubt him and Franky would be able to stop him together.
Yeah, I'm confident that Aokiji could defeat Usopp and Franky with minimal devil fruit use. Didn't he pretty much defeat Zoro and Sanji without using his power?
@IT'S:

it's funny you say that, when i was working out i was thinking bout gear 3 and i thought him being small must equp a condensed state of luffy, making him solid like a rock!
@Mr.:

They didn't do much fighting; he grabbed their limbs and froze them, so they couldn't keep fighting at all. A weakness Usopp would not have, for that matter.
Considering the fact that Paulie grabbed a snail phone and the Puffing Tom is still on Enis Lobby I'm certain the Franky Family group will emerge unscathed somehow. All that they would need to escape from the island would be a capable engineer to move the sea train, something that the marines didn't have for some reason.
I think it's safe to say FF is fine. I want to see how the Straw Hats handle Buster Call though.
I'm sure Aokiji, like Enel and Croc before him, will turn out to have a plethora of moves at his disposal that will be cool and a problem for luffy.
Croc had a tremendously diverse number of applications for what I thought was a "lame" Logia element, and he earned my utter respect for it.
Ener basically zapped people with lighting bolts, sometimes using bolts that took the form of purty animal shapes. That's hardly Devil Fruit mastery, but his raw power was so great he nearly killed everyone except Luffy.

I knida liked the animal lightning bolts…..more, I liked how you thought the drums were jewelry until they turned into the lighting bolts. It was an unoriginal power, but with a very innovative delivery system.
Aokiji seems to make a lot of weapons with his DF… I think he'd be a good matchup for Zoro, personally, more than Luffy.
But I'm sure he has a lot more up his sleeves than just what he's shown. They always do.
Ener basically zapped people with lighting bolts, sometimes using bolts that took the form of purty animal shapes. .
Forged a trident out of his staff, brought himself back to life(!), powered the flying arch Maxim and erased angel island with his giant death ball 'raigoh'.
Enel bashers :getlost:
Oh yeah, Maxim ROCKED!

Ah, you're the first with the guts to admit this theory, but what if Usopp fought Aokiji? There established strength aside, Usopp has the most heat based weapons on the crew. Bombs, firebirds, and heat dials. It seems possible, what if Usopp stored heat dials throughout his body? He could resisit getting frozen.
Then it's just a matter of Aokiji's rumored great strength.
It's not likely though, without a doubt.
And they, give Enel a little more credit. Despite the humiliating beating that Luffy gave him, he seems as skilled as all the other Logia users we've seen so far, hell, he was a skilled warrior. However, he was without a doubt, lacking, in the head.
I actually don't think Usopp could survive a blast of Ice Age. What I think eh could survive is a few whacks with that frozen sword, icicle shards, etc. And if he kept his distance, he would (as always) have the advantage.
Anyone besides me feel like Luffy's victory against Enel was forced. I know Luffy supposed to win but like u guys said, at that point, Enel was easily the most powerful character but he was beaten so easily. IMO didn't seem like Luffy had to work hard to win the battle. After all Ener is no slouch in the hand-to-hand department, should've been more to that fight. Oh well, cant wait till thursday to read the spoilers.

When you think about it, the only times he's really had to work hard were Croc, Foxy, and Lucci (not counting Ao Kiji, where he LOST.)
