LA all day everyday, go suck an egg!
Let's All Complain About Snowstorms

-
Y'know, that's not the first time I've been called an egg-sucking lil egg-sucker.

I know, whenever someone would say "why would anyone want the cold over summer?" I'd say "skiers" with a smirk. I have never been on skies and with my bad knees I doubt I ever will, but it IS something that can be backed up with facts as Denver and many ski resorts are big tourist spots. And that usually shuts them up.
And yeah, I do NOT miss the "summer makes up three seasons out of the year" phenomena of the south. Nor do I miss living in "Tornado Alley" or even the "Flood Alley" (yes it exists) that stretches from south of Austin (or was that Houston?) to just north of Dallas. I was hear for two years before I realized what was wrong with the spring…. more like what went right lol. In the E TX up to OK (at least, not sure if it go further to Kansas) the wet winds coming from the Gulf would hit the hot winds coming from the deserts in the west and we'd get violent thunderstorms that dominate the spring it seems. And those are what caused the Flood Alley in Texas. Fun times, watching the seasonal flooding of streets and certain streets (in low areas of course) would be closed off quite often in spring.
Up hear of course we get spring showers but nowhere as violent as the ones down south. Of course we get thunderstorms, but not as often. Best part is the spring temps of 60-70 F temps last longer than one to two weeks!
sigh I want to come live where you live.
We're supposed to have severe thunderstorms on Christmas here. There's a chance of hail and tornadoes… Do you think if it hails enough that we can call it a White Christmas?

We have snow on the ground, and chances it will snow today and tomarrow, but on Christmas day? It's expected to rain.

I say, change the thread title to "Some Complain About Snowstorms While Others Enjoy a Hot Summer".:ninja:
-
Dear Captain Ugly,
Quit rubbing it in! Or else!
preps a giant snowball
-
I'd like a little consistency with my weather at least… it was below freezing a few days ago and now the highs for Christmas will be in the upper 70s?!
-
It's nice and warm for Christmas: 65 F.
-

You live in Texas. Just like Oklahoma, the only thing it will ever be consistently there is hot.
-
It's 65F today and I have snow storms to look forward to on Wednesday and Thursday.
-
Well Madison doesn't currently have a snowstorm but it bitterly cold. Its -15C but feels like -22C and is going to be this for remainder of toady and all of tomorrow (highest its projected to get is -13C), and Friday & Sat will also below 0 degrees Celsius.
I need to get out now but really don't wanna. I want to splurge and hire a cab to avoid standing out waiting for the bus but I have to wait until the 9th before I have money for groceries … but its not groceries I need now. I got frozen pancakes, spaghetti, & ramen noodles to tide over until the 9th, its TB I need. That's something that can not be put off and no Kleenex to tide over either. GAH so frustrating. I may have to bundle up in 3 layers and brave the 5 min walk to the convenience store for that then splurge on a taxi on the 9th.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
my neighbor is a lifesaver! I was bundled up and ready to walk to the convenience store but notices as I was heading out that my neighbor was already home. Turns out she called in to work due to just how cold it is - it triggered a migraine for her. ouch. I asked if she had some TB I could buy from her, as soon as she realized I was ready to walk in this bitter cold, she told me I didn't need to buy it, she gave me 2 rolls. So no going out and walking for 5 to 10 minutes in what is -22 C with wind chill. Thank goodness.
-
We're supposed to get our first real snowfall tomorrow morning. Hoping it cancels school…

A message from the patron deity of New York Weather:
-
It's a Winter Wonderland and I don't have snow-tier shoes. If my mom didn't pick me up, my new Christmas sneakers would've been screwed.
(end it end it end it end itttttttttt)
-
It's really cold today. -20C / -4F with windchill. Still went out for ice cream. :)

I live near Vancouver and it's been an awful winter this year. Usually every winter we only get like one or two snow days and it melts right away. This year though there's been a couple of dumps of snow followed by stupidly cold weather (-10 C, sorry I don't understand your archaic Farenheit nonsense) that nicely turns all that snow into compact ice.
The overreactions are pretty hilarious though. All of the municipalities are unprepared for this kind of weather so they've blown through all their budgets. There's a shortage of salt and people are actually waiting in line for hours and fighting each other to get it. People are actually heading down to the beach to scoop up sand, lol. There's so much salt on the roads that my car is more salt than car at this point, and I don't want to run it through a carwash because it will be covered in salt again by the time I get home.
And the funniest part is that pretty much all of the main roads are clear and have been almost the entire time. I don't have winter tires and haven't had a single issue getting anywhere. There are just some side roads in the rich areas that haven't been plowed and the bitching is nonstop, lol.
It is pretty cool though that the lakes are frozen over. Trout Lake in Vancouver was opened up for ice skating for the first time in twenty years.
But anyway I'm not used to a snowy, cold winter at all and I am perfectly ready for it to go away now.
-
It was -25 C (-13 F if I am to believe Google) yesterday. I naively thought that Christmas frost is no big deal and I can manage a little 30 minute walk from train station home instead of taking a taxi.
Never again. Ouch.
On the bright side, today is only -10 C and so very sunny, basically the perfect winter.

I got stuck in Dallas overnight because American Airlines is run by idiots. I called them the night before my flight to warn them that Winter Storm Helena would cause problems for my flight, and they demanded 400 bucks in fees to change it. I couldn't afford that… so I ended up paying 93 for a hotel and 40 in taxi fare instead.
At least the room was nice.

When I hear 'airlines' and 'Dallas' in same sentence I automatically think of DFW Airport …shivers
Sure its impressive but a hassle to get around, heck its one (or the only one!) airport that has its own zip code. -
Give all the snow to me, you ungrateful clods!

starts to pile up the 1 in snow that fell today and throws it at a giraffe in a tree

A week ago or so we saw one inch of snow. Oh boy. One inch of snow. -_-
Now there's an ice storm planned for northwest of where I live. Geez, we just can't get any real winter storms in my area anymore. cries

Omg that happened to me last year too! Luckily my husband had travel insurance on one of his credit cards so we ended up being reimbursed for everything. But finding a hotel took us hours, they were all booked.

You sure you didn't already take it? It rained so hard last night that everything melted here.
-
It was 60F today.
-
It stayed in the 30s all day today, even though it was supposed to get up into the 50s. Yesterday it was in the mid 70s.
Funny, because we're sitting at right above freezing right now (originally the low was supposed to be in the low to mid 40s). Any more miscalculations in regards to temperatures and we might get a taste of the ice storm where I live.

I would be perfectly happy with this.

All I get is rain Femme, while just over freezing. Next day it's down well below freezing and nothing. It's absolutely tragic.
-
I bitch now because we don't have ENOUGH snow up here in MA. Snow is an important part of nature too, and dammit Winter just doesn't feel right without snow.
-
There's some good news today: only two inches of snow!
Also I rescued copies of The Davinci Code and The Hunger Games from getting soaked and ruined when someone left them on the ground outside. -
Welp, there's a snowstorm going on right on in the tristate area. So bad my college is closed AND so is work.
-
So much snow  Thank you for the snow Khione oh goddess of snow! stretches out and enjoys her snow day
-
It's dropping from 68 to 20 degrees in a little over a day. But the precipitation we were supposed to get had bad timing and came down before we went below freezing. And it's supposed to get back in the 60's this weekend.
I mean, I absolutely adore 60 degree weather, but I like snow too! Especially snow days, because since I'm a senior, I wouldn't be affected by any school year extensions resulting from them.
-
It was 65 this time yesterday. Now it's 29 and there's a foot of snow outside.
-
Still no snow where I live. At this point I've given up any hope. It's supposed to hit the 80s this weekend. Winter is dead. T.T
-
Eyeballing it there's a good ~4-5 inches outside where I am right now and it's still coming down, though the flakes are small and being blown around by the wind. I even heard some thunder not too long ago.
-
It dipped below freezing last night yet the snow/ice has melted enough to see the ground.

Northeast/East Oklahoma. =/
Ohhh THAT region! lol I grew up in NE Texas, the DFW metroplex. Not too far from OK. I was 18 yrs old before I saw the fluffy snow. As a kid I thought that icy white crusty slush as snow and didn't understood why anyone would want a snowball fight as that stuff hurts. By my 30s (2000s) I saw more dusting of soft fluffy snow than I did as a kid. But it was usually only 1-2 inches.
Irony is that once I moved up to Wisconsin, DFW area started getting more and deeper snow, once they got 6 inches! That may as well be blizzard for that area lol

I actually think Dallas got a foot of snow in recent years (the last decade, at least.). I remember being so jealous, because we hadn't seen a foot of snow up here in a long time.
It wasn't like that when I was a child. I know it's Oklahoma so we naturally never get winters like the Northeast, but back before 2011, I remember every year we'd get a storm of at least 6 inches. We haven't seen a storm of more than an inch or two since. It's actually funny consider February of 2011, and also the winter of 2009. Both years saw the first blizzards in recorded history, and in February of 2011 there was 30 inches of snow on the ground at one point in far Eastern Oklahoma. The temperatures shot down to -30F in the county my grandparents lived in.
And every since we've got nothing. How absurd.
I also remember that when I was a kid my mom stored all of warm weather wear away, and I remember once asking my mom to get it out for me and how ridiculous that was that it was warm enough to wear short sleeves in the winter, because it was just so rare back then. Now it hits 60/70+ weekly. I even kept a record of the weather in my diaries. I remember in 2001 it hit 70 degrees in December and it was so unheard of. As I said, it now happens weekly. In fact the whole last week of December was in the 70s this year.
But clearly there's no climate change. All of the
fraudsgood people running the government say so. -
^ a tragedy in two steps
Lady next door needed help man and like the gentle hearted fool I am, I offered to help her out "a bit". After doing her path, her front steps and most of her inclined driveway, she popped her head out to pretty much demand that I do her back porch and the side of the driveway too. And if I couldn't do it now, do it tomorrow or on the weekend. Didn't even thank me for all the work I did. So after managing to blink away the disbelief when she shut the door in my gaping face, I left. I literally spent more time doing her shit than doing ours. Non-stop shoveling for almost three hours (I had done our porch, steps, half of our path and some of driveway before offering to do some of her work). My. back. hurts.
God, people can be ungrateful little shits.

Greetings from Snowy Maine! It seems like we are in a snowy pattern for the next two weeks or so. Unfortunately, I work in the medical field(a dietary aide) so that means you HAVE to go to work unless the highways are shut down(which is extremely rare for us Mainers). I'm going to have to stay at my local motel Sunday night because I will not be able to navigate the hilly dirt road by my house. If it was not windy I would be able to do this, but it sounds like were going to get a full blown blizzard with 18-24 inches of snow and maybe 50-60 mph wind gusts.
Edit: Got to love Nor'Easters
-
Why complain about snowstorms? Yeah, shoveling can be a pain in the ass, but once it's done you have this beautiful landscape to behold.

Its less complaining about snowstorms in general and more gripes of cold lol … or lack of snow.
I guess there was enough of some of us complaining in news that coincided with a snowstorm hitting that someone created the thread. -
I just called it Complain cuz us Canadians are always complaining about the weather. Summer? Too hot. Winter? Too cold. Too much snow? Despair. Not enough snow (like now)? Weirded out. Etc.
We're always complaining about something.
-
Well we got more snow today and we'll be getting even MORE snow tomorrow. Again, I love snow but this time I'm worried that I'll still have to go to work.
