I forget the chapter number but if I remember right it was before Gin made his move to kill Aizen, as it showed a flashback of Rangiku on the ground with two adult male Soul Reapers walking away. They worked for Aizen, cue vengeance.
Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!

I don't remember it like that but if that really happened in the manga then i guess i was really underestimating Kubo's shitty writing ability…..... Well good thing i grew up with the anime and not the manga that is pretentious enough to use rape as a plot device for one characters motivation in a shonen series.
-
Kubo's "death" theme was pretty much his inner fashion/visual designer taking over. He dropped all pretenses of being a legitimate author.
@Bartholemew:
That irony.
Probably what happened
-
You realize that you are talking about a series that couldn't even properly handle the theme of friendship, right? I don;t know where you are getting this philosophy of battle and death from but it seriously overstates Kubo's ability as a writer. It's like seeing an Eva fan claim how philosophical and genius the series is, only to find out that the main creator behind it pretty much threw stuff together because he found them cool, not because he had an actual purpose or idea behind them that he wanted to convey.
Can i see the chapter of this said rangiku's rape? Or when the story even implies that?
You assume that I believe Kubo did this well. He certainly failed at creating something worth collecting. Kubo alienated his fanbase because he wanted to get pseudo-deep. He probably was thinking something along the lines of "a series about Gods of Death (shinigami) must represent all of the valorous ways in which one can die in battle." That phrase alone could apply to every single battle the Soul Reapers entered after going to the underworld of Hueco Mundo. Dordoni's ominous "Become a demon, nino" was the beginning of a significant and eccentric change in the direction and story of Bleach. After which, philosophy took over. Action and plot details took a backseat. Metaphorical dialogues became more important than plot details. The pages were filled with emptiness. Vast, bleach-white backgrounds symbolized the nothingness of the void. The title "Bleach" finally made sense–the eradication of the soul, or what it means to die. Cada uno de los espada personifica un aspecto de la muerte. Barragan the aged. Szayelaporro the mad. Ulquiorra the empty. Special emphasis was given to those villains for those reasons. They die the way they lived (sans Ulquiorra, whom is redeemed by love in one of Bleach's most twisted romances formed from Stockholm syndrome, a true submissive, and the only man Ichigo could never truly dominate–I could write a paper on this fascinating story arc which never explicitly states what truly is going on in so many instances....). The Quincy represented the divine--their inability to ever be killed, constant rebirth (Mayuri is a fascinating character because he has become a God artificially through Science--he's entertaining solely because of his zany inventions and representation of atheism at its darkest, and his domination over even the dominion of the symbolically western religion). Bleach became about belief systems...which is best? In what way do we shape or recreate the world into the place we want it to be (hint...the goal of the villains in every arc is revolution and Soul Society is the law)? The law created by the mysteriously elected denizens of Japan too adherent to the constitution of their nation (via Soul Society--Kubo is implying that all nations are formed through massacre and genocide by Genryusai's extremely dubious rise to power)? Totalitarian autocracy by the hyper-competent pseudo-god (via Aizen)? Total destruction by demonic nihilist remnants of purged souls (via Hueco Mundo)? Rebellion and an attempted insurrection planned by naive misfit teenaged greenhorn punks (via the Fullbringers)? Maintain the emptiness through Buddhism (via the 0 Squad)? Submit to an all-seeing, all-knowing, all dominating Christian God (via the Quincy–Ishida was Quincy Jesus lol)? Nah. You just fight for what's important for you and protect the things you love the most...which always means overcoming any structures that dominate you (via Ichigo, a heroic Alexander the Great for the millennial generation). Don't forget the symbolism of the blade--a weapon protects, destroys, ends all. The weapon is sacred and battle is a beautiful, macabre art. It is survival of the fittest--the most primitive, progenitive, and only true law of all things. Death is the only thing certain in this world. So make the most of life. The message, not the story, was what Kubo thought was important.
! >! >! >! >! >! >! >! >! >! Listen. I could go on forever. It's all bullshit. Retrospective reads allow you to make anything of art. I'm just posting my own opinion.

I forget what it was but I'm 65% sure it was stealing a piece of her soul or spirit energy or something. (was it rape? Idk)
Now that always bothered me - it's fine that Kubo wanted to make Gin a hero at the last second, but man oh man was his plan flawed. Rangiku gives no indication that this happened to her (easily obtained by showing her uneasy around Aizen in the SS arc). Maybe she repressed the event? Still would get that foreshadowing. Maybe Aizen wiped her memory of it? …..did Gin know that?
Not to mention that it makes you question how "good" the guy was trying to be. Avenging Rangiku and only Rangiku is understandable, for a sort of flawed avenger angle, but at what point did he ever have....remorse to get to the "kill Aizen" phase? Remember Gin took away Rukia's hope on her execution block, would have killed her if Byakuya didn't block Shinso, and he sliced Hiyori in half (when Aizen made no such order to do so)
What was his endgame? If he killed him….what then? It's not like the Gotei would take him back with open arms.

Rangiku's alcoholism is probably to forget it happened. She doesn't just drink…she gets blackout drunk. The omakes play it for laughs but if you get Kubo's twisted logic, there are enough connections to see what he tried to do with her character. Rangiku is the series' sex symbol because she's playing the role she thinks she is… which ultimately is sad enough for Kubo to entirely stop sexualizing her after the reveal of her rape. Gin's motivations are to kill Aizen and stop him at a moment he'll be most vulnerable--playing the right hand man and going along with any plans until the moment he believed Aizen's guard to be down. That required sacrifice. Gin doesn't give a shit about the laws of Soul Society or even really the inhabitants in it--he loved Rangiku and he lived for revenge. If Gin succeeded, he and Rangiku probably would have run off to Rukongai and lived happily. Neither of them truly cares about their jobs.
On a side note, it's interesting to think about how the endgame in both Naruto and Bleach devolved into "who has the bigger gun?" battles. I wonder if that's a psychological imprint from how the authors were educated about post WWII Japan. I hope we don't see this in HxH (the focus on strategic thinking is WELL appreciated and maybe Togashi's contemporaries have a more complex view due to the eras in which they were born), but maybe this style of combat reflects the truth of things...the country that possesses overwhelming military might and knowledge wins. Blah blah blah symbolism

I've noticed that people can get really dismissive when it comes to judging Bleach's narrative: "Kubo's a bad writer so that never meant anything". While I do agree that Bleach as a whole is poorly written, that shouldn't immediately shoot down the notion that he can sometimes write good and poignant stuff.
Of course, if there's one thing I learned from English class, it's that people can pull anything they want out of a story as long as their vocabulary is expansive enough. So going overboard on the literary analysis can also be foolhardy; I doubt even Oda puts as much thought into minor details as we think he does

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Literary analysis has always been about overanalyzing things, but it's fun to retrospectively go over a work and try to understand an author's thought process. Bleach is a work generated from a ton of thoughts from one person's brain… lots of it was unplanned and sloppy, but Kubo definitely wanted to do more than just tell a mindlessly entertaining story. Naruto turned out the same way.

@Mr.:
Deep talk
Now how does that really apply to Bleach as a comic? Assuming that Kubo is about "message" so how does he convey his messages through panels and drawings? Because the whole emptiness feel to the art doesn't seem like it's intentional and more like Kubo is simply lazy.
-

For all the smarts Aizen has he apparently doesn't know the difference between "fall" and "fell" those tenses man.

If you count unrequited love, there's Hanatarou and Uryu respectively.

^ I actually paired Uryu with Nemu…....don't know why.

The single best thing Bleach ever did was give us Freeza singing in Engrish.

Frpm what it looked like for a bit I thought Kubo was going to try a love triangle thing with Ishida and Orihime. But it never went anywhere.
There's a slightly surprising amount of Renji/Uryuu fics though lol.
-
For you guys, speaking about pairs, i've just found this:
! You all got it wrong, things go like Naruto, details ahead
! Tite's crapiest ending, I've told you.
! > Forever Halcyon DaysThe radar shows Reiatsu Signals of Ywhach, Akon alerts all Seireitei, the ceremony is interrupted, everyone is ready to fight vs the enemy, the Senkaimon opens, but it was not Ywhach, is Ichigo and Orihime with 27 years of age and little daughter 2 years old Hachiko
Rukia are surprised but relieved, hits Ichigo in the head Ichigos hair is WHITE, Ichigo apologizes, all calm down later, Rukia talks with Ichigo,
what does Ishida is a well-known doctor and has moved to Tokyo, Chad returned to Mexico and is responsible for the farm of his grandfather, Orihime is a housewife Ichigo leads Kurosaki Clinic, Yuzu and Karin are on, University and Rukia asks about Ywhach sealed in Zangetsu and her worries about it.
There are flashbacks of what happened after the fight, Ywhach stay locked in the world of Zangetsu but with Hollow Ichigo, young Zangetsu and Aizen punish him for all eternity, so do not worry, Urahara died along with Grimmjow and Yoruichi and his brother in Askin battle.
Jinta and Ururu are responsible for the store now Tessai went for a long vacation, Hachiko has the orange hair and sleeps in the arms of Orihime, Renji comes over and asks if it's okay to leave them alone Karakura.
Ichigo says Karin is better shinigami than him so the shinigami amulet rings, Karin need help with a Hollows, Ichigo bids farewell all and returns to Karakura Kubo Tite leaves a message of thanks for following us for 15 years and on the next page 2nd anime is announced for winter 2017. -
Well, that sounds lame and doesn't have any payoff on what was set up in the previous chapter.
So, entirely appropriate if true.
-
! Urahara died along with Grimmjow and Yoruichi and his brother in Askin battle.
If this ends up being true, there wont be a text size big enough to convey my incredulous laughter -
! Urahara died along with Grimmjow and Yoruichi and his brother in Askin battle. :getlost:
Expectations couldn't be lower, yet I am still dissapointed…

Last shot is Harribel still chained up in Hueco Mundo the end.

I've seen so many fake spoilers on /a/ that I'm not sure what to believe anymore. It has to

Damn, now I wish Kubo actually wrote something like this. Could make for an interesting fanfic.

Now how does that really apply to Bleach as a comic? Assuming that Kubo is about "message" so how does he convey his messages through panels and drawings? Because the whole emptiness feel to the art doesn't seem like it's intentional and more like Kubo is simply lazy.
Through poetry, empty space, expressions, ambiguity, references to religion, filtered philosophy, and metaphorical dialogues. There's a lot lost in translations of Bleach since so much of it references Japanese culture. I wouldn't say that Kubo is "lazy," but rather he is unaware of his own strengths. I think that anyone can make a shonen manga story… a layman can come up with a compelling story by following the typical formula present in a lot of Japanese series (i.e. teenaged punks save the world from corrupt "bad guys" through the powers of hard work and friendship--this is still present in Bleach...). Kubo could have stuck with what made Bleach popular but intentionally strayed away from it. You could tell that he wanted to be "deep" from the very beginning, but he took it too far. I think Kubo didn't realize (or didn't care) how much of his fanbase were intrigued by Bleach's plot instead of it's underlying messages.
I'm not saying Kubo succeeded at all or even did a good job of conveying what he wanted. However, Bleach did remain an original oddity and he did gain international acclaim. It's about to be a live-action movie too. Success is relative. Fans are mostly upset because of the time (AND MONEY) they wasted believing that the series would ever turn around and be worthwhile (hint...all manga series end up being wastes of time if you devote a significant portion of your life to it). If you read Bleach for entertainment, though, you can probably still find joy in it.
-
While I do think he could have hinted at rape in that scene, I don't think he was aiming for that with all her drinking and sexualization. Remember he doesn't plan things ahead and Rangiku's past certainly was not one of those very important things he had in mind since the SS arc. Also, he stopped sexualizing her as soon as her mission on earth ended (Grimmjow and his Fracción invasions), not after her past was revealed - it was because she simply was not in the center of the action anymore, not because her secret was exposed.
-
Chad be working that ground
Sequel series comes out two years later about him teaming up with a band of outcast Hollows and attempting to cross over to the United States
-
! The girl who tops 3 is a housewife. Does she still wanst to be a robot?

I'm sorry mr. Toto, but I think you're really reaching with this whole Rangiku-rape thing. Its not like its impossible to have been Kubos intention at some point, but the far more straighforward explanation is that Gin sees Aizen and his goons having harvested life force from Rangiku to use for the Magic Ball, and then Gin approaches Rangiku, passing her feeling of weakness off as "starvation".

Putting aside that Rangikus boozing-around has never been dramatized in any negative (or even particularly frequent) way, this connection is tenuous at best. Plus, Gin finds Rangiku first thing after the event happens, and she doesn't respond to it then either. Unless you're suggesting she was blackout-drunk even then, she was either unaware or had it repressed from the start.
@Mr.:
Rangiku is the series' sex symbol because she's playing the role she thinks she is… which ultimately is sad enough for Kubo to entirely stop sexualizing her after the reveal of her rape.
Thats an impossible call to make, given the extreme scarcity of Rangiku appearances after the arrancar arc. And when she did appear, she had the exact same cleavage-exposing fanservice design as before. Rangikus sexualization didn't dissapear, you just forget about it because her screentime is so limited. In all likelihood, despite being his alleged favourite character, Kubo just forgot about her; he wheels her out for the second invasion, and ressurects her in the royal realm, and does nothing with her at either time.
Also, the notion that rape caused Rangiku to become a Sex Symbol because "she's playing the role she thinks she is"…thats an incredible level of ick, especially given how in-your-face fanservicey she was used. I don't think even Kubo would go for that, and even if he did, theres zero dramatization of it - and zero change for Rangiku. We, the readers get knew information about her past that recontextualizes some things, but nothing has changed as far as Rangiku herself is concerned. Again, the notion that Kubo would intentionally flaunt her as fanservice until he revealed her to be a rape citim, then redact the fanservice seems absolutely crazy to me.
@Mr.:
Gin's motivations are to kill Aizen and stop him at a moment he'll be most vulnerable–playing the right hand man and going along with any plans until the moment he believed Aizen's guard to be down. That required sacrifice. Gin doesn't give a shit about the laws of Soul Society or even really the inhabitants in it--he loved Rangiku and he lived for revenge.
Even from the perspective of wanting to kill Aizen, Gins actions make little sense. Why help kill everyone who could also oppose Aizen? Why wait until Aizen reaches never-before-seen heights of strength before making his move? Why spend centuries helping Aizen make his Magic over-powering Ball to begin with? And he's going along with this whole plan for Rangikus sake, who could've easily died multiple times during this whole endeavor.
Plus, if we accept that Gin was working against Aizen all along, what are we supposed to make of his breaking of Rukias spirit, or cutting down Hiyori? I guess he just did that for shits and giggles because he's a sadistic shitbag, in which case I'm not going to feel the slightest bit sad at his last-minute heroic sacrifice for the sake of a childhood friend. Its mishandled both logically and emotionally.@Mr.:
If Gin succeeded, he and Rangiku probably would have run off to Rukongai and lived happily. Neither of them truly cares about their jobs.
You seriously think Gin could just go up to Rangiku post Hiyori-bisection and go "Hai sweetie, lets go back to the woods!!!" and she'd accept? Her doing that would mean giving all her friends the finger, especially Hitsugaya (whom she recruited for the shinigami cause to begin with!), and mean that all those times she put her life on the line for SS she didn't really give a shit about helping people. You're painting a wildly different picture of Rangiku than what was apparent.
Again, its possible that different ideas were hatched by Kubo at different points in the story…but they only exist in brief, solitary moments, because Kubo never ever plans ahead. Its bits and pieces that don't fit together.
Now that always bothered me - it's fine that Kubo wanted to make Gin a hero at the last second, but man oh man was his plan flawed. Like with Itachi in Naruto, the whole thing with Gin pretty much boiled down to: "this is how these things usually go, right?". Kubo just coasts on the fact that everyone was expecting the last-minute backstab "twist", but doesn't actually earn it, and the whole thing falls apart once you look at it. Like much of Bleach's storytelling its completely by-the-numbers shallow; its the equivalent to the "drama" of Uryus defection this arc.
-
You know, this may sounds very rude, but I always found the reason why Gin approached Aizen to kill him like a hundred years later kinda dumb.
It just…wasn't worthy the effort.

Pretty much. If Kubo really wanted to make Gin an antihero of sorts or betray Aizen organically, I think we the audience needed more scenes between him genuinely apologizing to Rangiku when the defection occurs -> lol let's kill Aizen now. Maybe something where he helps Orihime in Las Noches.
At the same time, he could've been great as a "steal the spotlight" villain, because not only do you have SS stuff with him scaring Rukia, cutting off Jidanbo's arm, Hitsugaya clashing with him, Kira being duped, again, Rukia almost being killed….Kubo himself has expressed shock that people liked him so much. He was intending him to be offputting from the get-go.

How is that rude? Lol.
It was in every way stupid. A lot of the villain motivations were poorly planned.
Aizen wanted to kill the Soul King we still don't know why.
Ginjou was upset that he was a temp and was being monitored…
Bach wanted things...The Zanpakto arc which wasn't even Kubo made the most sense.

I'm ready!! pokebleach go! imma capture a few shinigamis and hollows, heck if I'm lucky I might be find a legendary " the last quincy" but I'm not so sure which is it, ishida, ryuken, or Bach?

This is a good instance of the "read between the lines" narrative style that Kubo sometimes employs. He never explicitly states it's the case (i.e. Orihime and Ulquiorra's love), but forces you to consider the likely possibility. In this case, the tell is in Rangiku's bloody nose and torn open clothing with exposed chest/legs. What did those reapers do to her before they collected part of her soul? Gin's seemingly innocent question (offering food to allow Rangiku to believe no one would ever know it happened, allowing her to preserve her dignity) is a way for him to have Rangiku believe he didn't see what was going on. Gin was powerless to stop it, so he gained power in an attempt to avenge her by taking down the boss.
@Daz:

Its mishandled both logically and emotionally.Think about the narrative of how Gin obtained power in the first place. Aizen was his mentor. Gin was just a street urchin from Rukongai. By getting close to Aizen early, he was able to learn from the boss how to dominate. The 13 Squads were just in the way…Hiyori meant nothing to Gin. Nobody does except Rangiku.

Love. Gin could probably have gotten Rangiku to join him on Aizen's side if he wanted. Gin never wanted to put her in the position of being in danger and knew that she'd be safer with the 13 Squads than him. His mission was only revenge. Rangiku doesn't seemingly even want to be a part of the 13 Squads…making running away a possibility. It's not like Gin actually killed any of her comrades anyways...if he could cut Hiyori in half, he probably could have instantly killed her by striking a fatal zone if he wanted to. But it was a conscious choice not to do so. Rangiku would have run away with him if Gin succeeded in killing Aizen, unless Seireitei chose to pardon him for his crimes.

What are you basing this off of? As Daz pointed out, she's the one that convinced Hitsugaya to join - to prevent his leaking reiatsu/frost from killing his grandmother - so it's clear she has interest in recruits.
You see her in postarc and filler scenes drinking and hanging out with the likes of Hisagi and Kira, she respects and follows her captain loyally….like Shunsui, Rangiku is lazy but you get the impression that she's certainly not apathetic to the cause.

Nah. She's one of the most loyal Vice-Captains. She holds Hitsugaya in a very high regard and is good friends with the likes of Kira and Hisagi. Unlike Gin, she actually gives a shit to the Gotei 13. I feel you're really underestimating her character there.
Also, the fact she is even is a Vice-Captain in the first place is proof that she wants to stay there. No one gets a high rank in a place they don't want to be.
Plus, I really doubt Gin would run away. He would most likely accept or even encourage a punishment. Everything he did was out of selfishness and I think even Rangiku would call him out for it.
Let's also not forget that time he emotionally abused Rukia.

Rangiku has known Gin longer and cares more for him than anyone in the 13 Squads. Read through 416–how it shows Gin choosing to become a Soul Reaper to get close to Aizen, having just killed (presumably--look at the blood on his cheek) the men who took "something precious" (never stated outright) from Rangiku. He became a Soul Reaper before her. Then Rangiku joins the squads to get close to Gin again. You're overestimating her relationship with the others too. Rangiku recruited Hitsugaya, who ended up being a talent. Kira and Hisagi are just drinking buddies. Gin went on a rage-fueled journey to avenge her. Maybe Gin would turn himself in (I highly doubt it), but he has no moral obligation to. If anything, it would make sense for him to run away. Hypothetically, if he beat Aizen, do you really think Soul Society would spend too much time hunting him down? He isn't a threat to the status quo anymore and couldn't care less. Rukia meant nothing to him–killing Aizen has been a goal since childhood and he was willing to do anything to accomplish it...even act as his lackey in order to get close to him.

I almost forgot about that trolling episode. Really liked Gin as a character. What Kubo revealed in the end, about his motivations, has ruined him as a character.

I stopped reading Bleach somewhere around the Fullbringer (?) arc, when Chad said something about his skin being his pride. He used to be my favorite character and by that point I just gave up. And now Bleach is finally ending… Wow. I'm not at all surprised that it never got any better, judging by the comments in this thread.
I might watch the rest of the series in anime form, even if its just for laughs. I'm slightly interested in how much of a clusterfuck Bleach came to be.

It will be awesome animated. Source content aside, pacing was really its only problem. Still remember how my jaw dropped during Ichigo vs Ulquiorra.

I enjoy anime more than manga in case of JoJo Bizarre, lately Mob Psycho 100 and Bleach. Anime being its medium worked really well and we had great animation for fights. Some bits were amazing like how they animated Aizen transformation scene the one with an eye on his forehead when it looked like he died for a second. For example of course.
Music for it also was quite great.

Has it been announced that a new anime will premiere for Bleach?

By that logic, she would have been reluctant in fighting Aizen and his goons because Gin was in that side, but she never showed any reluctance. There's also the fact that she seems perfectly ok without Gin around as she is still the same person she was from before.
Plus, you really think the Vizards would be ok with Gin after what he did to Hiyori? You know, the guys who were recruited back to the Gotei 13? Let's also not forget that he killed the 3rd Seat of the 5th Squad as well. He also attempted to kill Momo too. It's not about the status quo, but also being a murderer who still helped Aizen around (and making everybody's lives harder) for entirely selfish, personal reasons. You can't go in a revenge-fueled crusade for your attacked girlfriend by joining the guys that attacked her and helping them commit crimes while leaving innocents dead on your way. Consequences are a thing, you know.
And while Gin could have very well run away, I could see him rebuffing Rangiku, in order to not bring trouble to her.

Its SFX was also quite memorable. Sounds for Sonido, reiatsu pressure, Cero, Bala, all kinds of Kido and stuff were a perfect fit.

Sound and animation made it shine.I loved some small moments here and there during quincy war, seeing them in quality animation will be great even if manga was so so or meh for most time.
I cannot get over fact that we did not get to see Soul Society flashback. Bleach now feels brutally axed. Like 1/3 of last arc was cut off.

Nope, but it's possible that could be the announcement.

I loved all of those - even the Zanpakutou spirit "flash-step" had a unique FX!
