Bud Spencer was a legendary icon in Germany. The hilarious German dubs of his movies made him and Terence Hill highly popular over here and there are countless people to whom he was an absolute childhood hero, myself included. I'm devastated, but at the same time I'm happy that he had such a long and incredible life. Rest in Peace and thank you for all the laughs you gave me and so many others, Bud.

I've often wondered about that myself; seems like being supported by people who only want you there so the world can end in fire (with you going to Hell in the process) would be somewhat off-putting

I've already heard the news, I just want to say a few things:
Bud Spencer films were a great hit over here in Hungary and I too grew up with them. I really need to find some time to watch some of my favourite ones.
At first, when I heard he passed away, I was sad, but after thinking about it, he seemed to have lived a long and prosperous life and was loved by many over the world. He will be remembered and will still give us good laugh and I reckon that's something wonderful.
Rest in piece Bud Spencer! You've earned it!

I didn't know much about his work, but I did see Certified Copy in NZ international film festival years ago.
