I would actually want to change the trainer's defuallt eyes since they creep the hell out of me.
Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest

Rebootig Pokemon is the same as rebooting Mario or Zelda.
-
Mario gets rebooted every game, and Zelda every two games, pokemon of all things is the one with the most cohesive intergame plot.

Only in regards to G&S and Black&White 2. Everything else is non-continuous.
-
Non continuous but there are enough inter region references to make sense of a living breathing world.
-
The story is continuous even if it's not that much interonnected, we get references from other regions, charaters coming back older, etc. Basically it's the same universe, just a different protagonist every game.

I just wanna know where N is, man
I miss that boy

N moved to Pokémon Albany and has a career in Unova politics.

References to other regions does not mean anything continuity-wise. It just means a shared universe. You could just make up a random timeline with any of the titles besides direct sequels and G&S.

Lockstin's channel is interesting.
, as a response to his own theory video (posted above by NitWit), he detailed what he would like Pokemon to become if ever there was a reboot.
! Some of his different ideas:
! ● Change of era. Different Pokemon. We'd only keep fan favorite Pokemon
! I'm okay with having a new universe with different Pokemon (though that wouldn't justify a reboot, in my opinion), but keeping "fan favorites" just because they're fan favorites? No. This doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and it will only divide the Pokemon community. Since you can't please everyone, the best strategy is to not to try to please part of the players.
! ● Full character customization (eyes/nose/skin… everything) Meh. Limiting the customization to skin/hair is enough, especially for a game like Pokemon. Younger players could lose themselves in complex customization. And most of the time, when I try to make a fully customized character, he ends up looking like nothing. I do not have the patience to make everything perfect, and I'm sure many are in the same case. ● Being able to pick your starting city (which would lead you to a different starter Pokemon) Too complicated.
● Bigger map Yes. Definitely. HG/SS had two regions and it came out in 2009. I'm sure we could potentially have bigger cities, bigger regions to explore.
! ● All Pokemon are visible at all times
Nope. First of all, I don't know if the machine could handle it. Second of all, it'd be too much.
! ● Changing the evolution/breeding system, making the rare Pokemon even rarer Why not. If it's challenging and fun at the same time, I'd go with it.! Change of era? How big a change of era? We talking past? Future? How big a change? I can see keeping fan favorites, there is no Pokemon without a Pikachu.
! A little more customization would be nice, but like you said too much customization is too much for little kids. Maybe including the eyes and height would be enough.
! I would love to pick my starting city. I don't think that's too complicated.
! Everyone has wanted a bigger map since Gold/Silver.
! Nah, I agree. Too many pokemon, too much overload on the senses.
! Change the evolution/breeding system? That might be . . . . . interesting. -
Don't let Komala's mild looks deceive you, the damn thing hits really hard.
-
Apparently the fish's ability that negates the faster moves… doesn't just block their priority and slow them down... it just flat out stops them cold, they don't even work.
Wonder what that does to Talonflame.
-
It blocks all priority moves, so it sounds like a hard counter to gale wings.
I can't wait to see it in action -
Don't let Komala's mild looks deceive you, the damn thing hits really hard.
Betting the Komala and it's line are going to end up being another line similar to Slaking's.
-
Unless fish pokemon has more going for it other than the ability to stop priority moves, Talonflame is just not going to give a damn.

Like being water type? But, yeah, just give Talonflame U-Turn and he should be fine. This thing will have free switch-ins whenever Talonflame is out, but in no way it will be faster than 126 speed nor does it look like it will be particularly bulky.

Future would be, in my opinion, more interesting. It could also be a total reboot; a complete new world not tied to the previous one in any way.
I would love to pick my starting city. I don't think that's too complicated.
The problem would be that you'd need to adapt the scenario depending on which city you're starting in, and rearrange everything; the wild Pokemon's levels, the trainers level, the arena champs level, etc.
Change the evolution/breeding system? That might be . . . . . interesting.
Lockstin suggested that to make a Pokemon like Slowpoke evolve, you'd need to accomplish a "side-quest" in which a Shellder would bite his tail.
He also said that ghost Pokemon, for example, should be rare to find/hunt and not be able to breed, to make the game more interesting than it already is. -
That makes it more interesting in the RPG side, but to the competitive side at the very least is a minor bother. Make ghost unable to breed, it would impact the balance of the mons and the online battles greatly, for flavor or coherence? Not worth it.
People keep trying to make pokemon something that is not. Go ahead, make that game.

Talonflame doesn't rely on it's speed though, fast as it is. It relies on its ability that adds priority to all flying moves… which tend to make a good chunk of its moveset. And those moves should automatically just... not work at all.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see this ability go to a few other mons, and in turn give other things priority abilities... same way it was open season on dragons showing up throughout the game after fairy type was added.

That's super easy. You just scale things to match your badge count. Plenty of other rpgs balance enemy levels around your team's strength, and pokemon itself had a great algorithm in BW where experience was based on difference in level (that they got rid of when they made the exp share insane.) And being able to pick and choose your gym order would be amaaaazing and really make the journey your own. (In the original game even you could do the middle set in any order due to the layout, that's less the case now) .
And they balance routes alll the the time when the road splits and you can go two different ways.
It would be no problem at all to give you two or three different starting cities to choose from, and thus really mix up what everyone's journey is like and what mons they get early.
It would also get rid of the need to have starting rodent/bird/bug combo like there always is.
They just don't do it cause tradition and because its easier to have a strict gated story path rather than more or less free exploration.
-
I think rather letting you choose your starting town, it'd be more interesting if they let you choose the order in which you fight gyms 2-8 (maybe have gym 8 be a giovanni type deal where it opens after you've done most of the plot dealings), with a "suggested" order for newer players, but with the ability to go off the beaten path and make your way to places before you're 'supposed' to be there and maybe have story events change based around that.
Like, for example, say you're in the early game forest after Town A and there's two ways out, not counting the way you came in. Path A is full of encounters that are appropriate to the level you are and the exit spits you out at the entrance to Town B. Path B, on the other hand, is a little hidden and out of the way, and has encounters that are way more challenging for the level that the average player would be at. Following Path B would spit you out between Town C and Town D (giving an additional choice as to where to go).
Maybe you encounter the villain team for the first time on the 'suggested' path in Town C, after getting two badges from Towns A and B, but rather than the event flag being "enter town C" it could be "enter Town C after obtaining any two badges", with the option of enter Town C after having only obtained one Badge and being able to snuff out the villain team before they can set up, preventing them from causing trouble there, but perhaps leading to a harder encounter later, since the villains are doubling down on their efforts, not wanting to have their plans ruined early again.
I think stuff like that would be more preferable to Absolutely Free Exploration, which I think just wouldn't work with pokemon due to assorted reasons. You have an accessible, but not predetermined path for newer players that follows a continuum of just doing the natural, sensical order as it is presented, with harder side paths that reward more in-depth exploration, battle, and maybe even creativity if we throw in some tricky puzzles on the hard paths, for the more experienced players that want more of a challenge and the ability to tackle things out of order.
I don't actually have an issue with a normal gated story either, tbh, but I think something like that would be a neat idea to try out at some point. -
That would require a lot of changes, not just the level of wild pokémons. Which pokémon you find in every route is also set taking into account their stats, evolution level, etc. Earlier areas get weaker pokémon or pokémon that evolve earlier while later areas get stronger pokémon and those who evolve at higher levels. I remember a user here saying how he/she regretted importing a Noibat to ORAS in the earlier parts of the game since training it all the way up to level 48, that's why it is only available in the wild already at higher levels. When GF chose which pokémon you find in each route, the requirement for their evolutions, at which level their learn this or that attack, they are thinking of when that pokémon could properly join your team. An open world would screw all that.

To fine tune Ruin's suggestion a little, suppose there were a few flags for an independent/more challenging route. You meet your ever-growing posse of annoying friends Generic Initial Waypoint City; they tell you they're heading to Designated First Gym Town to the west and you should come too. You can do so and follow the normal route, or you can strike out on your own to the north on a longer route towards Gym Town 2. Gym Leader 2's Pokemon are the same level as they would be normally, but when you head to Gym Town 1 next, your friends there remark upon your independence/dick move for ditching them and Gym Leader 1's Pokemon are now a higher level, with one evolved. It's not particularly hard to bump trainers' levels or initiate different dialogue if certain requirements are met, so long as the overall story structure remains the same.
! This tag exists solely because I hate walls of text. Move along, nothing to see here.Rather than allow for players to start in different towns, which I think would encourage boring circular B/W maps, I think having a number of smaller route choices would be more interesting. Suppose gyms 2 and 3 were interchangeable, and 5/6/7 were a loop that could be done in any order. The plot retains structure and can come together at gyms 1, 4, and 8 for big events, as well as non-gym towns. Hell, the game's basically done this already in Gens 1 and 4. The only change that needs to be made is to scale the second or third gym leader in the loop's Pokemon up.
-
Yeah, I definitely think that having a structured story points with freedom on how to get to those points is the best way to go with pokemon. Doing whatever you want, wherever you want, forever doesn't really work with the overall feeling of the games, and it alienates newer young players, who are best off with a simple start and a push in a manageable direction, while older, more experienced players get more ways to approach and finagle with what they have to get more challenge out of it.
GSC actually let you do Gyms 5, 6, and 7 in whatever order suited you, but it didn't really scale well (Pryce always seemed a bit weak if you take him last, to me), and after all three of those were done, you'd be sent to take care of the Radio Tower. It's basically what Jabberwok said, so it can totally work with some more fine-tuning and refinement.

A new Pokemon revealed (that can poison ALL types)
-
Toxic switch-in? Looool what dat be?
-
That will change the Meta a lot!Also: Poison/Fire :)
-
Skarmory is gonna hate the fuck out of this Pokémon lmao. Amoonguss too probably. Stall is dead!
-
Boom of hidden ability Gliscors scheduled to autumn.
-
Pretty sure it's going to have an evolution that evolves it into a Komodo Dragon (a lizard known for it's extremely acidic and poison saliva).
-
Refresh my memory. Is this the first Poison/Fire type pokemon ever created?
-
Refresh my memory. Is this the first Poison/Fire type pokemon ever created?
I believe so, yes.
-
Considering its primary type is Poison and how menacing it looks, I have no doubt the evil team of this gen will be using many of those, since traditionally every antagonistic faction has been prone to use the most evil-looking pokemon. Oh, and Zubat, always.
-
That is a cool ability, and the pokemon design is pretty decent.
-
My God. This pokemon is pure evil. He even sounds like he has an evil laugh.
-
I'm kinda hoping it gets an evolved form, because the description says it's pretty weak.
-
That lizard screams evolution all over the place. Also:
"Salandit females not only release toxic gases, they can also emit pheromones that attract males of all species, including Pokémon and humans. Inhaling these pheromones may cause opponents to be controlled by Salandit’s will."
JESUS CHRIST!!

Damn, I already love this guy. This generation is really turning out great.@The:

And I really like this idea, was just thinking these days how weird it was that there was no komodo dragon in pokémon.

HOLY COW! Where did you found that description, Nekketsu?

Uh? It's in Nintendo official website, of course.

Omg, that thing is awesome, and it's a pretty cool typing. Will most likely be using it.Also, when they say it can poison all pokemon, does that include pokemon like Komala with abilities that prevent it?

Nope, it only works on typyings. For example, Poison Heal will still work the same as usual, and the same thing goes for Immunity.
-

Thank you. Salandit is a weird Pokémon, indeed…
-
-
The ability is impressive but put onto a Poison/FIRE pokemon hurts it. Barring Heatran, you were never going to switch your Steel-type in against a Fire type in the first place unless you were absolutely desperate.
-
R.I.P. Ferrothorn.

Salamander +…lit? Or, given the dex entry, salacious +...
Yeah that thing's going on my team assuming it can be found relatively early on.

Salamander +…lit? Or, given the dex entry, salacious +...
Yeah that thing's going on my team assuming it can be found relatively early on.
It could be Salamander + bandit, and when it evolves it may become a criminal or gangster (behold the glorious Salaminal!).

That thing looks awesome and actually kind of scary when it faces you head on.
